I have a Nokia 7 Plus, running Pie, unrooted. Generally a great phone, had the charging port fixed by Nokia a few years ago.
But every now and then the screen locks up, I can usually get control back by locking the screen and waiting a moment and unlocking.
I've factory wiped my phone a few times, I've removed of my apps but today it's been terrible and seeks to be locking up more than ever.
I put it into safe mode and used chrome, with Bluetooth and wifi and had no issues at all.
Any ideas how I can diagnose and fix the issue?

Any suggestions how to potentially fix this?
Maybe worth to try the following:
1) clear system UI cache
2) Android system force stop
3) reboot
and /or
1) activate developer settings
2) under -> debugging -> Game-Driver Settings activate "prerelease-driver* for all Apps. It will survive re-starts
3) enter recovery mode and perform the graphics test
4) reboot
This is working for me since 29 May 2021. To be confirmed....

Thanks @chrhei
Unfortunately the issue still persists with the first option.
I'll try the 2nd one - what does the Game Driver setting do?

To be honest: I've no idea what it does, but it's still working for me.
Sorry to all
After 5 days of usage it happened again.
Conclusion: No fix.
Sorry for being to optimistic.

3. Incoming call doesn't display automatically when in battery saver mode
4. While on speaker at high volume some blur kind of noise
5. At times notifications on lock screen doesn't respond even after double click
6. Overall OS sluggishness at times randomly.
Yes, most of them are common.

Most of these are common gripes, none can be corrected natively, but some can be corrected through different Rom's and such.
so basically all these problens could be fixed by the android 5.1 upgrade right? cause i have most of them issues... freezing apps is the worst.

nobody knows that, since android 5.1 is not released, and nobody knows what is included with it. but most of these issues that are reported here are user types of issues. meaning its your setup that will fix or break these things. like freezing apps you said.. that doesnt happen over here. usually its your setup or types of apps used that will cause that(apps not ready for lollipop).
That opens a big can of worms.

MMV, but the update should make things more definable. What apps a user may have and whether or not they are updated to work on lollipop should not be such a drastic issue, In a perfect world, Google should provide for backward compatibility or come out with a whole new version of their operating system; I.E. Windows 7 as opposed to Windows 8.

You should still be able to enter recovery using the key combination:
- power off the phone; can usually be done by pressing the power button a very long time.
- hold volume down and power button to power up. This should get you to the bootloader screen.
- here, select recovery using volume + power keys.
PS: it's better to start a new thread rather than reuse an old one that doesn't exactly match your problem.

Sorry lol had to hook it to laptop and run Nexus toolkit
I'm having issues with several apps not triggering at specific times/notifications. Tried to whitelist Duolingo and that worked for two days and then it stopped. Podcast addict is doing the same thing. It should update every 4 hours but nothing happens. Tried to whitelist it but didn't work. The developer thinks it is the phone that kills the wake-up trigger/alarm. Anything else that I can try as it is rather annoying that various apps only work if I actually open the.

What I meant by reboot was to boot into recovery mode and wipe caches.
Sorry not sure how to do that. Just going into memory clearing it from there doesn't do the trick?
Press the POWER+VOLUME DOWN keys simultaneously until the device restarts and oneplus splash screen appears. Then recovery mode will start and language selection menu will appear. Wipe caches from there. Be careful not to wipe anything else. Then restart your device. Most issues albeit small ones get resolved by doing this.
Seems like doze kills the check. If I switch doze off, podcast addict runs the check for new episodes. With it on it doesn't, even if I whitelist the app. It also seems like when it runs the new episode check , the phone kills the app as it showed up under power hungry apps. I'll see if the cache clean dies anything.
Hello after i updated my phone to oreo it lags sometimes. I assume that it is kind of a Glance problem cause when i turn off glance there is no lag at all(pretty strange i know). I contacted support about this 2 times and they said restart the phone and clear the chace of the app that causes the issue. Neither of them work. Does anyone else facing this issue?

The only lag I have is with the fingerprint senzor. If I doubletap the screen and then I press the fingerprint, it unlocks instantly. If I press the fingerprint with the screen off, it takes a while before the screens turns on (~1.5sec). Maybe this is how it is on the Nokia 8, but on the HTC 10 was lightning fast.
I will reset the phone if the problem presist s i will send the phone to service

Had a 10 as well as don't really notice that much difference. What I will say is that battery performance trounces the 10 so I'd imagine it's pulling the Nokia from deep sleep that causes the minor lag.
always restart wherever it lags. it lags with the amount of oreo update.

I think it is so the phone isnt getting false attempts to unlock it, only my opinion though, i am not saying that is deffo the reason.
I just have the same problems with my Nokia 8 since 2 days.
Fingerprint or power-button unlock is sometimes painfully slow. Maybe up to 5 seconds.
I have the Android 8.1 Oreo update installed since some months already and also the newest security patch.
I have read, it's a general problem of the 8.1 version, that unlocking gets slowed down.
Anyone has a solution so far? Factory reset doesn't seem to help always (I didnt try), but maybe downgrading to Android 8?

No, this didn't work for me at all.
I think it's related to deep sleep / doze feature. Try to restore factory settings and wipe clean data + cache of the phone and see if it will help. There's so many things that can cause this that we're not able to help any of you.

Thanks, I know, but that also didn't help me. Currently I am following this bug report at Google:
https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/109710373
It seems to be an issue witht he June Android Security Patch... a lot of Pixels are having the same problem.
I don't thinks it's the June 2018 update problem. If u look at the dates on this thread, the problem started after the oreo 8.0 update back in November 2017. Hopefully it'll be fixed in the android 9 update coming soon. I updated straight to 8.1 after unboxing so I don't know if this problem was around during nougat
Same here
I have the same error.
Hi, I updates my note 9 to android 9. After update when I call to people screen is flashing. When somebody pick up the phone flashing is disappearing and everything goes back to normal. Does anyone else have the some issue? I did not have this on Android oreo, after update to android 9 this problem show up. Have a look on this video >>> https://drive.google.com/file/d/1r0hC0d81l1FAXiHh9E7dRsbXr7iBDZ9J/view?usp=drivesdk
Try wiping the Cache Partition in Recovery Mode. If that doesn't work then perform a Hard Factory Reset.
Yes, exactly the same happens when I call. I think it is by design.
I worry that maybe something will happen to the screen because of this
I worry more about my eyes. On positive note at least I know when I butt dial someone to disconnect after few rings/rapid colour changes
I'm surprise no one mentioned this issue before. I'm sure there is a lot of people having the some problem

Have you checked in accessibility ? As there might be a setting to turn the flashing off? I would check on my Note 9 but I’m back on Oreo 8.1 as I didn’t like ONE UI PIE 9 Update!!
I have/had the same issue. But it was only randomly appearing... today it did not occur, but I got a new OTA update yesterday (dbt). Also I had in accessibility settings turned on the setting to remove animations which is now turned off. I also wiped cache after OTA. And I have animations turned off in developer settings, but this is like that since I have the phone. So if I don't see the issue again it might be due to Samsung addressing it in the update or the accessibility setting switched off or wiping cache. if I see it again I will report.

Glad it helped. It is always good practice to wipe the Cache Partition of your device after performing a OS update. As this ensures that no software conflicts will occur when you use your device.
A factory reset, wiping cache, etc, none of those helped the flashing call screen for me.
When I went into Developers options and set all the animation scales to .5 instead of off, that fixed the flashing call screen stuff.
I prefer animations off but I'll take this trade off till they fix it.
The animations bug has always existed on most android devices. setting to .5 resolves all these. wiping the cache i've found doesn't make a huge difference overall, since it will be rebuilt during usage, and improve performance over time.
I think
It is the d3v thing, but the main issue is the notifications, they don't clear and it's really irritating. Also I always do wipe cache partition after updates. Don't want to factory reset as I'm not rooted so it would. Mess. Up a lot of. Things
Hi,
I can confirm that removing the animations had fixed the problem on my phone.
Settings => Accessibility => Visibility enhancements => Remove animations
NOTE: In Developer options all 3 animations (scale) settings are turned off as well.

I tried OLEDsaver from the app store but it creates artifacts and banding on images and messes with the contrast.
Wiping the cache partition stopped it happening for 1 day but then it came back.
I've now set animations to .5 to see how it goes.

Guys,
Oneplus support answered me about the matter. See below.
Hi Leonardo,
Thank you for the revert. Hope you are doing good.
I recommend trying to Hard Reset the phone. Since this will wipe your phone data, please make sure to backup your data files before doing the Hard Reset.
Backing Up The Data: You can sync your Google account to back up the Application data, WIFI settings, pictures and contacts. Do ensure you have enabled auto sync and backup data from settings. For music, video or other files, you can copy the files to computer by connecting the USB cable.
Please follow the instructions given below to perform Hard Reset steps:
* “Power OFF” the device and press the volume down and Power buttons simultaneously for 15-20 seconds
* Select the Language as "English"
* The recovery screen will appear on the display
* Select "Wipe data & cache"
* You should have three options saying “Reset system settings”, “Wipe cache" and “Erase everything”
* Please tap on "Erase everything”
*This would perform a reset on the phone and once the reset is completed successfully, * Select “Yes” & "Reboot” the device.
If the issue still persists even after performing all the provided steps, please get back to us. We will surely assist you with the information available.
Looking forward to your response.

That's the default answer they provide for every possible issue.
I did what was suggested and it worked.
Of course it did. That's basically a "switch it off and on again" on steroids.
My point is that a lot of times a factory reset is overkill, but from a helpdesk perspective that's the cheapest way to take care of the vast majority of calls witout even looking into what the issue is.
I contacted them a while ago while the .21 firmware had an issue with Android Pay, caused by Work Proflie and Clone System. It took me (and a few others) a bit of time what the actual root cause was and offer a fix. 1+ helpdesk would have still advised to facvtory reset, instead of even just looking for an actual fix.
And the issue Back again
Try to think about the exact steps you've done after the reset.
OK. after the hard reset it was working fine. The problem restarted for no specific reason. I restarted the device and the problem stopped. Then it came back. after this last system update this problem started. on my OnePlus 7 pro I didn't have this problem. I upgraded to 10 pro thinking it would get better now I'm worried about this rapidly flickering screen after lock. I continue to contact OnePlus support.
Guys, I sent another email to Oneplus support. I'm still waiting for help. Is my device faulty? Email below.
Gentlemen, good morning.
Unfortunately my problem goes far beyond what I imagined. It is not a problem of always on the display only because when I disable the service the problem continues. I've already done the Hard Reset 2 times and the problem continues. I even did the installation without using any previous configuration, however the problem ends up returning. My Oxygenos 13 version doesn't have the option to downgrade to Oxygenos 12. Am I starting to see that this is a problem specific to my device or am I wrong? Would it be a defect? This is giving me a lot of concern as with the screen flickering quickly I am afraid of my screen getting damaged. Please I need your help.
Guys, good morning. Vídeo Oneplus 10 pro bug / vídeo 2 Oneplus 10 pro bug 2
One more update for you.
I downgraded to Oxygenos 12.1. At first everything was fine. I went to sleep. When I woke up the problem came back. I'll send you a video. After restarting the phone the problem stopped. However, it is clear that this problem is on my device and not only on the operating system. I'm starting to believe it's a bug.

If factory reset didn't resolve the problem, then it very likely is a problem with the OS, assuming you aren't using any mods that interfere with AOD.
Check on OnePlus community site too. That would be the best place to start.

After the Downgrade to version 12 I realized that the problem took a while to happen but it reappeared. With less damage than version 13. When I updated again to version OxygenOS 13 the problem already restarted at the first moment. I don't use any MODs. I use the original unaltered version. I haven't done the formatting on the computer yet. Would you recommend a clean format? If so, any tutorial recommendations?

Based on what you have said so far, it appears that this problem was not there earlier when you were on Android 12. But now after upgrading to Android 13, the problem has started and it continues to be present even if you downgrade back to Android 12.
Is it possible for you to record a video of this behaviour and post it here? I would also like to see your system settings for display, lockscreen and AOD.
