If it's the U1 3AUDD update you can't downgrade. The bootloader revision has been bumped to 3 and there is no going back to bl 2.

I'm pretty sure you can't downgrade because the bootloader is a different version than the previous version. The number that is shown 5 characters from the right on your Build Number identifies the bootloader version. The May update took me to bootloader version 3. Prior to the upgrade, I was on bootloader version 2. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe you can downgrade once you've updated to a different bootloader.

They upgraded bootloader so no going back.. Not sure if you can root.. But if so you can add command to unlock the hot spot..

May update clearly mentioned in it's changelog that it was not possible to go back to older firmware after updating. No dice.

Are you in the US?
I haven't tried to tether with this phone.
So, you're saying that if I tether, it will check with T-Mo or whatever my carrier is to see what I'm eligible for?
I guess that was 1 benefit about the Pixels. No checking, just tethering!
Very happy with May update

Here's a work around I found:
Download Activity Launcher from the play store -> go to the search on the top right -> type in "tether" -> it should search for "Mobile Hotspot and Tethering (there should be 3 that pop up) -> choose the 2nd one -> click on "WiFi Hotspot" -> click On.
I don't take credit for this as I found this on reddit. It worked for me and a few others. Good luck!

This looks interesting. My phone is currently unlocked and i'm able to tether without the ATT tethering plan. If I did this update do you know if my phone would still be unlocked.. with tethering working?

I test this method in devices unlocked by a code that I bought in libertyunlock.com, the unlock it's permanent, the tethering otherwise I don't really know if you will losing it, because the devices that I updated don't have a jailbreak and by this method (unlocking by code) you need the At&t tethering plan to tether. I presume that making an update in a device jailbreaked you will losing it at the time your firmware change...
Sorry for not be more useful Greg
I can however help a bit more
upgrading to 7.8 will not permanently lock your device, it will however attempt to relock its self once its installed, this can be stopped by either applying the relock prevent xap again or by applying the unlock again
if you update the firmware then all is not lost, you can stil unlock or remain unlocked as mentioned above, if you hard reset though you will not be able to apply the dev unlock as you had originally done
course this is all academic now that all 2nd gen samsungs can be unlocked regardless of their firmware, search around the WP7 forum for the answers, it is harder than the original unlock by beggar's cant be choosers

Any idea on how to push an update and what the updates actually fix? I'm at 2102.11.10.1 on AT&T US, but on 7.8
The only noticeable thing I found was the keyboard lag was gone, I'm sure there is more but that was the only big difference I saw

i purchased a Focus S, and when i got it it was still locked. plus it seems to be in a demo-content mode. i would like to knwo why is this? plus i realised it couldnt update it via Zune, so i dloaded a program that allowed me to do so. now its running 7.8 but its still in the demos content mode. where it resets every 12hours or so.
is it possible to turn off this mode, or was i duped?

Good question, what is your OS and firmware version?
Demo mode suggests that its not a retail model, it may be lacking features.
however, if you are running exactly the same OS and firmware version then perhaps we can compare and find out what is making it restart. I suspect that its different versions though

Awesome! I now have 7.8 working on my Focus S with no problems to report.
Interop
This worked flawlessly on the first try for me.
one problem though (or question)...
i was attempting to do an interop unlock, however i forced another backup not realizing that the original 7.5 backup would have been overwritten...
since i'm now faced with the samsung wireless manager apn list being empty issue, how do i go about getting the software downgraded without the backup or getting the interop unlock without the samsung wireless manager blocking the entire process?

that's the one, I don't understand why your not able to change the APN, the wireless manager is still on the market place
the process of the V3 unlock adds the correct settings to the APN settings, so if you had problems before on the older update process, you should try the new one anyway

If the workaround to bring back the oem unlock toggle isn't working, then you will have to wait the 7 days for it to appear. Then you can toggle it and try installing twrp again. You likely missed a step in the process last time which resulted in 'jail'.

Reboots don't affect the 7 day timer. Your uptime timer will reset, but the 7 day timer for OEM unlock is server-side.

I'm not sure but I think that installing the update could restart the 7-day wait period. If you want to root as fast as possible then it's probably safer to not install the update for now and just wait for the OEM Unlock toggle to appear. There is also a stick thread here with a workaround to skip the 7 day waiting period, but it didn't seem to work for everyone (although it did work for me the one time I tried it).
Any luck///need help too.
Any luck with getting the OEM to show?
I've tried them all waiting 7 to 2 weeks, factory reset change date at setting up insert sim card and no luck. I got my note 8 at soon as it came out so maybe it has something to do with it? I want to root it so bad it cant because of no OEM. Any new information would be great!

Ok the T-Mobile model has a locked bootloader that can't be unlocked, so OEM unlock won't work.
The N9600's bootloader can be unlocked though. I have tried the date trick in the past on another Note 8 variant and it worked, but I have since read different things such as recent firmware updates stopping the trick, or needing to jump more than 30 days ahead instead of 7 to make it work. Not sure if all that's true or not, but if nothing works then I would probably back things up, flash original firmware through Odin with full wipe and wait 7 days to see if OEM unlock appears.

Yes I know the t mobile bootloader cant be unlocked but still can get be rooted and use some mods with the lost of 20% battery lose but one has to get OEM unlocked under developers options (that option never shows up for me) I've tried 7 to 14 day without reboot but not 30. I've give that a try on the note 8.
As for the note 9 N9600, I thought it came unlocked already but still just need the OEM unlock switched, which for me is grayed out and cant be switched. I'll use factory reset on both and try the 30 days trick instead of 7 and see if itll work.
Thanks for the info.

Yeah the samfail method for u.s. snapdragon models was patched by Samsung at one point, but it depends on which version bootloader you currently have installed if I recall correctly. Check through the samfail thread for more info there. I have an exynos, so can't say for sure about n9600 but that's what I would try at this point

I cant do anything without figuring out how to get OEM unlock to show up on my note and OEM unlock option greyed out removed from my note 9. The only step one found was the tricking the device on changing the date and that didnt work on the note 8 (going to try it for 30 plus days and see if thatll work) as for the note 9,,,,,,, I dont know why it's even grayed out.

Like I said you won't get it on the T-Mobile model (and iirc it's not needed for samfail, even if you are on the proper bootloader, etc.), but you can always check the 9600 and/or OEM unlock threads for more on that one if the stock flash/wipe and waiting period approach isn't preferred or doesn't work out.

I just don't wanna sign new contract. So traded for this one for my phone and cash. I really love it but I like features of android 8. So if there a link where I can get the update file and stuff I need for Odin I will have shop do it for me. I don't wanna mess up my phone but Im hoping get android 8 and samsung 9.0 then I be happy. Any help be great. If I can get to states or get someone mail me sprint sim lol be so much easier but I don't see that happening soon lol Thanks

You don't need a Sprint sim card you can do it yourself using odin and it's really easy to do.. What's the baseband that you're currently on? Tap settings then about phone and then software information and read the baseband. I will get you the link for the update firmware you need.

Here you go this is the August update for Sprint and the very latest one they have out right now although you can upgrade further but I wouldn't advise it yet since those aren't fully public yet.. This is the link you need to get the firmware from https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1322778262904010789
After you're done downloading it you need to unzip it 1 time and put the files in their respective places and ignore the HOME_CSC file. Just turn the phone off and boot into download mode holding the power button the volume down button and the Bixby button all at same time and then you can read the screen and continue. Make sure you download the correct odin too by the way Odin 3.13.1 is the latest according to https://samsungodin.com and you can download it there.
So I should just wait. Does this mean there not official update for my phone maybe I will get the ota. It just not out yet. Is that why my phone saying i have latest version

That is the official update.. Since you're not using Sprint you're never ever going to get the over the air updates again unless you decide to switch to Sprint.. For example I'm on Verizon and I get the OTAs but if I were to switch to Sprint I'll never get the updates again unless I go back to Verizon and the reason this is, is because Sprint doesn't send out Verizon's firmware updates and Verizon doesn't send out Sprint's updates.. This means you have to do it yourself and the very latest update for Sprint is the link I posted all you have to do is download and flash it and if you've never done it before now is the best time to learn because if you're not switching to Sprint you're going to have to do it.
Oh ok I thought you said I wouldn't recommend doing it lol I just got confused. I be happy with oreo. I use pie on my buddy phone not huge difference. I thought different band that why said not recommend it. I just don't wanna brick my phone lol I don't have another phone that's all
lol wont let me download that sprint file window defender keeps blocking it so went to sammobile and found 2 versions one say sprint other is unknown cct. I don't have sprint bloat on my phone. the download for sprint don't show up. the cct one works will that work. I searched n950usqu3bra6

Sammobile is slow as hell I'd turn window defender off or download it with your phone and then transfer to a computer.. After you download the firmware just flash the needed files and not HOME_CSC yea whichever one you find should work just fine..
do I just need do thru odin or do I have do second step update from sd card from recovery. I just wanna make sure, cause once I do all this I wanna have all I need. I have odin and now downloaded the file you showed me thanks. Some youtube videos I watched this why I get confused they do bt/ap etc then after reboot shut off phone reboot from recovery then update from sd. so I just wanna make sure I have all.

No you don't do anything but odin. First slot you put the BL file.. When you put the 2nd file in the AP slot it's so big that odin's going to say it stopped responding but leave it alone and it'll finish checking it and then move on to CP and then the CSC file and then tap start and give it about 10 minutes and that's all you have to do nothing else!! Only fill in the first 4 slots ignore the rest of them!

No there's no reason you would lose Samsung pay. You only lose that if you root the phone or for the international one if you unlock the bootloader. It'll be fine.
Unlocking bootloader is what I'm going once home with info you gave me
Awesome going do what you tpls.me.omce home

Has this Sprint message come up asking for a code an if I exit out. It disabled the wifi an makes the device useless. I've tried to download other firmware files an tried flashing through Odin but since it was 9.0 the bootloader updated making it hard to go back to 8.0 any help is greatly appreciated.

Download this firmware and then flash it with Odin and you'll be back on 8.0.. It seems to me that the phone is carrier locked and either hasn't been paid off fully or something.. The 8.0 firmware is here.. https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1395089523397940842

No it will not do that. You need to purchase an unlock code from a retailer online that sells unlock codes.. If the phones not been paid off the IMEI will be blacklisted..

Ok, I just paid 10 bucks on eBay for someone to unlock it. Hopefully it's permanent. I was pretty skeptical but it appears to be working now. Hopefully it will stay working. If So, 10 bucks well spent.

Hi I'm wondering if you did fix the issue stopping you from using WiFi from lease lock? If so how did you do or or what steps do I need to take to fix the one I bought.
Help!!!
I have a sprint note 10 plus , carrier locked , and lease locked, I am trying to get past the lease lock , any help would be greatly appreciated

there are no legal methods of doing this and XDA does not support nor allow discussions of this sort to occur. It is already known that there are 3rd party sites who offer services to remove sim card locks, lease locks and blacklist removal, but further discussing those things here is forbidden.
I have found a solution to my issue and have fixed my phone , my apologies for not better info but the phone was not a sprint phone and was never used with sprint it was paid for in full from Best Buy . Com and was simply a screw up somewhere on there end but I have solved my issue via U1 firmware and am happy to report my phone is 100% usable

You cannot OTA update from Baseband N950USQS5CRKI. You need to manually flash the latest version using Odin.

It's quite simple.. You download the latest version of firmware for the device which is N950USQS6DSI3 after it's downloaded you need to unzip it one time and then boot the phone into download mode and connect it to the PC USB port and open Odin and put the files in their respective place and then flash.

Thanks bro! Nice to see you too! How are you doing? Everything alright? I sent my Note 10 back because I just can't stand certain features or LACK of features namely the notification light being gone and the screen protectors breaking the fingerprint scanner so.. I don't know what phone to even get at this point now.

I'm seeing different carriers (vzw, tmb, cct, usc, spr) except mine which ends in XAS. Which will work for me? Will any of these stop my device from supporting my sim??

Doesn't matter they're all the same just choose whichever and flash it the phone will choose the correct information on it's own!
Are there update limits? I usually get a new phone, root it, find a rom I like and stick with it a long time. I recently updated many apps and they are not working right. Only google maps will get the location from the GPS for example. Also trying to get it to work with my new car radio (kenwood) with wireless mirroring and android auto. Anyway, as much as I like root, I am thinking it may be time to just update. I am currently at N950USQS2BQK2. Yeah way back. Can I odin a current like N950UOYN7DSK3 or do I have to go in steps? Also how do I get an unlocked USA from sammobile? Just pick a USA that doesn't list a carrier? Any other gotcha's since 2017?
Thanks,
Bob
