I don't think there is a way, it doesn't seem to have been intended as a possibility. there's no screen recording or screenshot folders in the DCIM folder on the memory card.

yes all my photos and videos from camera app are there ....but only screen recorder application save in my DCIM internal storage ...i dont know how to change in external storage ..i have only 128 gb internal storage and a lot of apps
I don't think the data partition for app storage is dynamic. you'll just have to transfer your screen recording manually or look for an app that'll do it for you.
ok bro thx for ur help .

Why would you use some random 3rd party app with spyware ads when you can use builtin file manager to do the same?

Why?
The same result can be achieved with other file managers, but with more work, more thinking, and more clicks.
In contrast, in this application you simply select files or directories and click on the big button and that's it. Everything quickly and easily. In addition, the app is positively received and praised by users.

@_jis_ not familiar with that google cloud bug but maybe something as simple as making a .nomedia file in screenshots and screenrecordings folders and wiping gallery data would solve it.

It's not Google Photos backup's fault.
The backup service is set up to automatically upload all files in the DCIM folder which is supposed to be reserved for "Digital Camera IMages" by name.
But some Android individualistic manufacturers (Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, and Realme) had chosen to store even screenshots inside it, that caused all of them to be backed up along with camera shots.
Using a .nomedia file is like using Beelzebub to cast out the Devil, because then, of course, the built-in gallery won't have access to those files too.

the built in gallery will be fine, I did say to put .nomedia in the screenshot and screenrecordings folders. that won't effect any other folders inside the parent or DCIM itself.
EDIT: oh you mean people wanting them in their gallery but not in their cloud storage. yeah in that case no easy fix. I don't use my phone like that so it's not something I've ever tackled. I don't use a gallery app or cloud storage.

0 work for me. I actually prefer for Google Photos to back up all my screenshots too. Makes it so much easier to work with them on my computer without have to explicitly transfer them.
that app does have some bad reviews from the slightly more tech savvy play store users.
I just pointed out an app that does my friends a good service.
I wish everyone would make their own opinion of the app based on their own experience.

Does anyone know whether it's possible to use the Google Plus Photos app with sync on the Z1 Sony stock firmware (I'm using 4.4.2)?
How it is supposed to behave:
- Edited photos replace the original, yet maintain the edit/meta-information to revert
- All changes, including deleting photos, sync across all devices
How it behaves for me:
- Editing a photo on the Z1 creates a new image, without the editing information, i.e. without being able to revert anything
- The original photo on the device does not get deleted when I delete it on another device or online

Maybe it's a stuppid suggestion, but have you check the option "google+ photos" is activated in Settings > Google > "your gmail account" ???

Same here, found out it was because my pictures were on my SD card.
Are your pictures on an SD card? If so, move them to Internal Storage and see if the problem persists.
You should also run the SD card fix if the SD card issue was your problem.

thanks, I did save to SD card before but disabled it already. perhaps I try wiping the remaining photos from the card. can I ask what do you mean by SD card fix?
edit:
actually I just quickly wiped the phone to see if it's of any fix. unfortunately, it's not. the behaviour is really annoying:
- if I edit a pic in google plus online or another android device, the Z1 shows the edited version in the google photos app and the original version in the sony album app
- if I delete a picture in google plus online or via another android device, it will disappear in the google photos app on the Z1 but remain on the stock album app
- if I open a photo from the stock album app and select to edit it in the google photos app, there will be a copy of the original plus an edited copy in the stock album app, but only an edited version in the photos app.
so ultimately, making the sync/edit tools from google useless as it creates a mess, I used to edit my photos all the time on my N10 or online and everything was synced nicely. now the only non-messy option is doing _everything_ from within the sony app and also lose the option to change edits later on.
any help how to solve this appreciated. but I have a feeling that this is not possible on stock. anyone knows the behaviour on CM?
Hello,
Waiting for my Z3 Compact to arrive. I can't wait!
Question for you owners out there. Did Sony add the option under storage settings like they did with the Z2 to move apps to SD?
Fingers crossed!
Thanks in advance!
Would like to know myself. Seems like a boneheaded move if it's not an available feature by default. I mean, I know eventually root will allow us to achieve apps2sd even if it weren't, but it would be such an Apple move if this were a restriction.
I could only see 'Transfer data to SD card'
Photos
Videos
Music
no apps or any other options yet.
App2SD is not present and I'd predict that it'll also not come. I'd already be happy if we could get write access to the SD. Thank you Google... no, I don't want to use your Cloud "services".
Can you set pictures, videos and Music to get stored on the SDcard by default? Setting the location by default would make things much easier. Not too worried about 16gb for apps, always was fine for my N4 with everything else as well. Just needed to clean up storage every once in awhile.

Hey all, in KitKat we introduced APIs that let apps read/write file in app-specific directories on secondary storage devices, such as SD cards.
We heard loud and clear that developers wanted richer access beyond these directories, so in Lollipop we added the new ACTION_OPEN_DOCUMENT_TREE intent. Apps can launch this intent to pick and return a directory from any supported DocumentProvider, including any of the shared storage supported by the device. Apps can then create, update, and delete files and directories anywhere under the picked tree without any additional user interaction. Just like the other document intents, apps can persist this access across reboots.
This gives apps broad, powerful access to manage files while still involving the user in the initial selection process. Users may choose to give your app access to a narrow directory like "My Vacation Photos," or they could pick the top-level of an entire SD card; the choice is theirs.

you can set the default image/video location from the camera settings, read somewhere that you can do the same with music via the play music app.
Okay probably got that wrong, but on the other hand effectively it's the solution to the problem. If the apps can easily store their biggest part of data on the SD, the internal memory will be save.
did we lose this capability in the Note 8? still haven't found a setting and my aqua mail isn't letting me select my extSD for storage of attacments. anyone find it or is it gone? any workarounds other than root?
I honestly thought that ability was removed several years back. Like maybe 3-4 years ago. I could be mistaken.

thanks. wtg Sammy. take away the functions we use most. why allow large external sd cards if you can't store anything there. zero permissions to access it for important apps and no way to move hoggy apps there. nice. definitely rooting again. so tired of paying for fewer and fewer really usable features. dumbed down devices are not my thing.

Yes it was . Google removed that ability in kitkat.
Some applications have option to move to SD, but not all: settings/apps click on application, then storage. If you don't see "storage used - change" then that app is not movable. However SD card is not as reliable and fast as internal store, so I wouldn't move important apps even if I could.

Just tried this and it shows that it was "moved" to my SD card. The storage being taken up increased but on the internal storage it reflects the same. So probably didn't work.
Edit: Okay so it does work but not for all of the Apps/Games I tried. I'd say about 10% of the apps I tried didn't actually go over to the SD Card but the rest of them did.

some clarification for me...
so even though inside the "apps info" tab on a particular app, if it says "external storage" it may still live on internal? or will it show "internal"?

Exactly, at least from what I'm currently experiencing. For example I had 18.2GBs before I moved GTA San Andreas which is roughly 2.8GBs. From what I can tell it didn't increase my space on the internal as I still have the same 18.2GBs but it also took up more space on my external SD card. So I don't know if it is some false positive but I've restarted a few times and installed other apps. The storage still hasn't changed. Maybe someone else can shed some light on this phenomenon?

Thanks for the follow up.
I moved some things over to SD card (i have a 400gb SSD card) like WhatsApp, philips hue, instagram.. things like that. Nothing serious like any CPU intensive apps. I "see" SOME more internal storage open up but i need to look into it further myself.
Still thanks for starting this discussion. I miss the old days of moving apps to SD (there used to be a program , apps2sd, that would do this in the early days of android) and 64gb is not a lot of storage for apps today. Most of us have over 100+ apps (on a power user device like this device, I would have expected more).
If understand its safer to keep apps internally so as to now cause issues, but having their ability to Mose simple apps like WhatsApp and such, can help.
I don't plan to root so being able to do this and KNOW it will work is intriguing.

Google has been screwing with SD card access since Kitkat, if I remember correctly. They don't use it on their phones and messing with permission and all kinds of nonsense to make people move away from SD card to use and pay for their stupid cloud. At least now the permissions are set properly. Anyway, root could be difficult on Snapdragon, S8 just got root few weeks ago, around 6 months after release, so don't hold your breath. But I'm finding that a lot of stuff requiring root can be accomplished with ADB, I just wish somebody made a comprehensive list of ADB tricks. In the past I used root mostly for disabling bloatware and adding functionality, like adding AC3 codec, but there are workarounds for some of those things, just hard to find sometimes. Knox doesn't bother me too much, I may be using it's secure folder for sensitive data, like banking, credit cards, I just hope it's as secure as they say it is, because I have my doubts.

good info about adb. I'm out of practice with it and, yes, a comprehensive list of working adb commands would be great. I'm not in a hurry for root. I know it takes a while. and if we don't get it (I would be surprised) I can deal.

I'm not one to root but the main reason i want SOME apps on SD is their folders they store their data in, like whatsapp for example. Conversations in WhatsApp span many years and gigs of videos and photos in a few of those conversations. Having that on an SSD card would be choice.
P.s. Lol love your screen name bro... :good:
Go into developer options and you can turn it on. You can put majority of your apps on your card. No system apps.

and exactly what you said. some apps like whatsapp... and others. it's just necessary. for the moment I just want the permissions fixed and that's going to take disabling knox and/or applying a fix to do both like for the N4. not sure that type of thing is even doable anymore.
Ill keep an eye out on this thread. If you found more tips/updates on this please post.
I just moved a LOT of stuff over to SD. Evertying i could. Some things, google maps for example, didn't have the option of moving over, so maybe some of these will stick..
I was one danergously low on internal storage, but if i can move things over, I will.

Hey all.
Does anybody knows how to change the Screenshots folder to InternalStorage/pictures/screenshots (like all the other android devices) instead of InternalStorage/DCIM/Screenshots?
In the galaxy s10 it saves automatically in the DCIM folders and Google Photos detects it like has been taken with the Camera so it automatically backups all the screenshots like normal photos. This is very frustrating.
Does anybody knows a solution for this?
I am currently using an app named "PinSync" that automatically moves the screenshots for the storage i want but it has a Cons which is that it invalid the Smart screenshot menu, it doesn allow me to edit or share directly. It's only a mending when i want a true solution.
Thanks
Try putting a .nomedia file in the folder. Only drawback is that your gallery won't show them either.
I hate this. I used Pinsync and it was cool but I need Smart Scroll too much
so I just routinely purge Google Photos backup
sigh
I may try the .nomedia file for now since I usually just share screenshots immediately and purge later

I was using PinSync also, but now I dont even take screenshots anymore. I use the Smart Select edge panel and select whatever part of the screen to share (or the whole screen), and once I share it to an app and send it, I back out and the image is not saved.
Still, taking a screenshot and immediately pressing Share takes a lot less effort. I wish Samsung would just move their screenshots folder as it being in DCIM violates DCIM standards.

You gave me an idea.
Can I use BXactions or something to trigger smart select? Then I don't need a screen shot. Might negate the time factor and eliminates the Google photos back up issue.
I literally just searched this forum to find out if there was an acceptable solution for this, but I realize that there is not. I will have to do some deep research on how to change the path where the screenshots are saved directly in the system.
It's stunning how a company like Samsung can manage the complexity of producing an amazing smartphone but yet is not competent enough properly configure a storage path for screen shots.

What do you want to do?
If you need more space and WhatsApp is taking a lot of space you would have to delete some files/chats/backups etc.
E.g. in /sdcard/WhatsApp you'll find a lot of files. Delete everything you don't need (or back it up to your pc, usb...) especially video clips, pictures and music files, as they tend to be very large.

At least it always did on my devices.
You can long press WhatsApp and click on storage to see how much it actually consumes. But its userdata should be placed on sdcard automatically.

No it does not.
All videos and such are on the phone, not on the SD card and with a 32GB phone, it really is a problem.
