I am interested in a netbook up to 10 or maybe 12 inches size and in price under 600$$ !!!
these two models are both the same in specs except Acer has more usb ports- both Atom 280 & 1gb ram
Im interested in your opinion on these two (which is the best- looks dont mather much & I know how good they look) or maybe suggets another netbook with Nvidia ION or Atom N280 cpu and under 600$!!
EDIT: Im also very interested in Nvidia Ion Netbooks up to 12inches -- when will it be avaiable to customers??
i have an asus eee 701 and a 1000h after useing both of them my recommendation is
http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-Vaio-VGN-T...ptop?hash=item3354d69103&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
older sony vaio such as the one above

There is talk about a S5 with a slide-out keyboard!!!
Yeah,
vliv great models!!
I´ll go for one soon!
@ orlesi, where you heard about S5 with slideout kb?
---------------------------
Respect OP modesl, I would go for Asus, I don´t really trust in Acer, seems poor quality for me, no ofense.
Asus 701 4G users have been using since the day of launch "XP Pro SP3 2GB DDR2 OC 900MHz" My PC uses Asus Mobo etc, so i'd go for Asus
Right now Im leaning more towards Asus eee pc 1008HA -- it can be upgraded but its harder than on other models(you have to take apart all the netbook) but its more stylish and faster than acer or a lot of other netbooks...
BTW-- does anyone know when a netbook with Nvidia Ion can be bought (like Lenovo S12 or anything else)

the screen is way too small and even with the 800x600 hacked screen driver there is still not enough space to really make it useful. but the good thing about the 701 is you can get one for cheap now.

Yep i wasn't recommending the 701 just the brand lol
Was a purchase when UMPC's became more affordable and if the larger screen sizes where available when purchased would have gone for another Asus model.

i had a raon everrun and i loved it. other than it was too small and too big. too small to be useful and too big to be really portable like a phone plus it did not make phone calls. i miss it. but yeah it was expensive.
netbooks sucks...
1Ghz atom? mutta! just for the easiest and lightweight laptop... nop i dislike them then no drives Plus the drive... na ha, you will get seriously frustrated when you begun to get bored or out of batt at 2:30 of heavy usage...
Believe me... Oh if you dont believe dont buy acer aspire one... the bat is worst than toshiba and asus.

I know how its with the atom -- I am currently using a old Dell Latitude D600 with 512RAM and 1.4ghz pentium M processor -- trust me its slow -- with win7 the D600 is faster than with XP and mostly because of the Ram ... battery- well I can use a Laptop for a lot of hours with no charge (of course if possible) for instance D600 hold about 30 - 40 mins when on max performance(no wifi and brighness on max) but with min performance(600mhz) about an hour ( but unusable because of cpu speed)
So Im not worried about performance cuz I have the patience and the netbook will be as a power saving computer which I use when I dont need the power of my Desktop PC (3.5 ghz C2D, 4gb Ram, 8800GTS 640mb, Asus Striker II Formula), which is a power hungry beast -300MWh a month(if get the mwh correctly
hey guys,
I'm going be buying a net book soon, so would like any recommendations. I'm going be looking at net books around 300-450 price range.
first
I would look at asus eepc
next stop would be
msi's line
why not buy a laptop?
for a few quid more get a dvd drive as well!!!
I would recommend MSI, or samsung netbooks.
flyboy
Toshiba would be my recommendation for a laptop
Archos 9 for a tablet
Asus has great netbooks & notebooks!
i have the asus eee 701 and the 1000hd. also i have spent some time on someone elses 901. i would have to say the 1000hd was the best plus really cheap you cant beat the battery life for the price.
It's going be basically using it for web surfing, and i wouldn't be watch movies/burning cd so no point of having a disc driver. Recently my 2,000 dollar laptop broke so don't want to buy an laptop anything soon...
ibm netbooks
Hello all,
Bumping this old thread as I have similar queries and I need some assistants.
So here is my query. Lately I'm having electricity shortage and my desktop pc cannot run longer on batteries and I don't have much money to buy a an normal laptop neither I want bigger screens.
I need an mini laptop with good performance. After researching many of em, I finally came to the following models and so available in my places :
HP Mini 110-3730TU
Asus R051PX
ACER Aspire One Happy 2
so from the above, I have to select one or none if it doesn't suit my nature of usage.
1. Not mainly for gaming but atleast a low end games would be good. i.e GTR 2 – FIA GT Racing Game
2. Web surfing.
3. ROM cooking its my main requirement. Either it would be WM, Android or WP7 cooking.
4. Windows and Linux supported.
If my above requirements aren't possible on atom dual core cpu, please let me know. Also which model I should go for. any other models or brands are also welcome.
I have no idea about these netbooks and how well they perform. so I really need any of your guide lines. Don't wanna waste money where the device isn't worth for my usage.
Thanks...

Well, I wouldn't wait to buy any ultrabook if I had some more money but my budget is limited. Around 300$ USD.
Discuss.
I just sold my laptop last month for a great price and now I'm playing the waiting game until I can get my HP Touchsmart TM2 convertible tablet. I'm dying for an update on a release date, but I'm getting nothing. There is one out already, but it's got the old dual-core. I'm waiting for this baby...
http://www.amazon.com/TouchSmart-tm2-2050us-12-1-Inch-Riptide-Argento/dp/B003KN3IZI
The Fujitsu and Toshiba models seem to be a bit too expensive. Anyone else have any recommendations? I need a real keyboard.
Otherwise, discuss tablet PCs!
I'm completely confizzled.... is this to talk about your dilemma or tablet PC's?

I just started the conversation with my waiting dilemma

I saw a video of the performance and it was a little buggy. Hopefully they will fix that before release...
Taking a look at the specs, they are a bit meh here. I won't lie
I have a dell xt2 and I am itching to find something better for tablet pc options especially because I travel in and out of LA and Chicago in summer and winter (so the sun is a big issue)
I complain and moan and groan about the dell xt2 for a variety of reasons; mostly its dell using old parts (core 2 dual processor and a 5400 rpm hd where the previous model had a 7200 rpm). Dell ram is an arm and a leg, and SSD is so ridiculously priced its not even funny. Dell tech support is full of morons with their head caught so far up their proverbial anus they assume issues are normal.
And despite all of the problems I have with the dell xt2, I think about the tablet pcs now and I realize this is the best I can get for the type of person I am. I'm a clinical psychology student, so a capacitive touch screen is very important. Pressure sensitivity would help in adobe like programs, but it is not necessary. I like having the ability to use my finger to size and resize because I read my ebooks. I can run mac osx, windows, and ubuntu, and I look for further customization granted and nothing can be found. But I realize for now this is the best tablet for me.
I don't need a tablet that can pop off at the top separating keyboard from screen, I need a higher gpu processor so I can render things a bit faster granted. All in all the tablet pc market is a waiting game. The i7 by lenovo is a joke (which is shocking). Maybe hp would be better with a capacitive touch screen and built with thin and portability in mind
edit
I just saw the hp elitebook 2740p
and I am impressed a bit
i7 2.6 ghz
8 gig ram
250 gig hd
2 mp webcam
lightweight like the dell xt
multitouch
However, the bad part is the pricetag is almost 3000 dollars psh no way I'm doing that mess - at least not until I get some cash and sell my dell xt2
Perhaps the only issue I easily see with the tablet is that where is the hp custom suite??? its like nonexistent which is a huge negative especially if its marketed as both a consumer and business tablet. I mean the hp touchsmart theme can be installed but that's not the point. Que sera sera
Well, the HP Touchsmart is supposed to be coming out with an i5. Given that it will be the same form factor for the most part, you can max at 8GB of RAM on 64-bit and 500+GB HD. That should only be $1200-$1350.

wayyyyy too expensive for the features...that's double the price of what HP is expected to have ready in less than 30 days
If it is soley about price Thinkpads are not usualy the way to go, but IMO they are worth every penny. With it you get the best keyboard, the best pointing device (trackpoint/nipple > mouse > touchpad), the best build quality, and with X200 T, the best tablet computer.
If you already have a laptop and are just looking for an auxillory tablet, then something else is in order. But if you want a laptop and a tablet, or just something with the convience of a tablet that still has the full power and utility of a laptop, the X200 T is hard to beat. It is the only tablet which I would consider a "laptop replacement" (it's a laptop in disguise); to me the higher price and extra 1.5 pounds are made up for by this fact.
I do wish Lenovo would shove more powerful hardware into their machines, especily on the GPU side. And honestly one of the biggest draws for me and many other Thinkpad fans is the trackpoint/nipple. Once you get used to it, you can never go back to using a touchpad, and at times it is even difficult to use a regular mouse. I know Dell puts something similar on their business laptops but it is a far ineferior implamentation to the Thinkpads'.
HP Slate looks alright
and it's the normal smartphone price about £350.00 and has a 1.3 Ghz processor!
not to big as well because that was one of apples failure along with the oth half a million because if you want to type with both hand you have to put the flippn' thing down.

I agree with you on the build quality. From what I have seen, Lenovo seems to dominate that market, but I just cannot agree with you with the trackport/nipple. I've logged quite a bit of time with Lenovos and IBMs and I just don't get why they still make that thing. I upgrade my mouse every year and I just can't have anything else. Well, maybe a stylus!
But what I was really looking for is a netbook with touch capabilities that can convert into a slate. I want a real keyboard and I want specs that beat the XPS M140 (Intel M 1.83Ghz, 2GB RAM, 80GB HD) and I want to be ready for touch software coming out later this year. I didn't want to spend more than $1000 either. It seems that the HP Touchsmart is the best (and only) one so far.
IdeaPad S10-3t is garbage. EeePC T101mt is garbage. the S10 blade gets expensive when you want to upgrade to something decent. And the HP Touchsmart Tm2 seems to be perfect, just needs an optical drive.
I have got an hp pavillion tx2650eg which is very fine with its touchscreen. The touch input isn't that good, but the input with the inductive pen is wonderful

I mean dell pricing is crap. I want my i7 8gb of sexy damnit!

I read a while back that Dell was investing in convertible tablets, but I haven't seen anything yet. I'd trust purchasing Dell, but they just don't have anything cost-worthy.
Also, it's always good getting jobs early in the degree process and then working your way up. I apparently make more now in my bachelor's position than others trying to get jobs with their master's degree. If only that degree would finally come in the mail.

$250 for a quadcore tablet? hell, yeah!
Tapatalkin' it from my rooted NookColor running CM7 MiRaGe [KANG] [7.2 RC] overclocked @ 1.2 GHz
Sounds like it'll be a great deal when it's actually available in the wild. For now, my NC is meetings my needs well enough that I'm debating between getting a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 Plus, or waiting for the Asus MeMO or something like it.
I definitely have the 7" tablet bug, but only had my NC for a few months. Not quite ready to upgrade. However, when the time comes, this sure has my attention.
Again, it's just a demo and I don't believe we will know for sure its hw. spec. until very close date to release, which ........ who knows? probably this summer? or Xmas?
I've read here and there, some say it's ready to ship, some others say it'll be in Q2.
Don't know yet but sure, it looks very optimistic.
Thanks for directing my attention to this beast. Already has $250 cash ready to throw at Asus when it is released.
Just got two Nooks for Xmas (one for wife). But I'm already bored with it. Lack of video acceleration in CM9 and lack of built-in GPS is a downer.

Yes, if it's GPS capable then, heck yes, I shall give it some love, however, it reported having A-GPS, which mostly requires data network to work with, can't do offline GPS alone. But again, let's just hope.
Just wish that Asus is clever enough and put NO locks on its bootloader as Nook Color did. This is the better and faster alternative for Nook Color Tablet. Kindle Fire and NT are for eReader only, and are not designed for tablet from the beginning.

If rooting is atleast possible, I wouldn't mind at all. What's the point of a bootloader unlock when you already have an unskinned ICS running on it?

Lots of A-GPS devices still have full standalone GPS capability, though you're right that some don't. For example, my Incredible gets great GPS accuracy in airplane mode even if the initial time to lock is longer.
That said, I can imagine there must be a lot of little concessions to meet a pricepoint like that so I wouldn't be too surprised if it doesn't have full GPS capability. Wifi might be stripped down like so many budget tablets too, i.e. 2.4GHz only, possibly even limited to 54mbps.
Looking forward to seeing this new asus tablet, I did see this post ealier though stating that it wouldn't be as awesome as it looks, because some rumors say that Google has chosen Asus to manufacture their new nexus tablet. If this happens, Asus will have to compromise on both internal storage as well as replace the processor. It will however be a whole chunk cheaper.
Solar.Plexus said:
If you were holding off on rooting your NT because you were going to sell and buy the Memo 370T, you can forget about it.
I'm not happy about this at all. I was really looking forward to a great mid-range 7" tablet: $250, Tegra 3 quad core processor, full Android ICS, camera, etc.
The latest rumors are that Google has chosen Asus to manufacture its new Nexus tablet to compete with the Kindle Fire. To be able to do this, they'll probably have to cut the internal storage and use a different processor.
Reports are that it will cost $150, which is insanely cheap, and even though I do like Asus products, I'll probably be sticking with my NT. My mother's going to be upset, she was looking forward to getting my NT when I bought the 370T.
Rant over.

But then again, these are just rumors :b I'm really looking forward to this and I think I'm still gonna get one of my own
I've completely forgotten about this thread, my thread
Anyway, as I said earlier in different thread, this device is too good to be true.
For that much of money $250 packed with those high-end spec, it's not gonna happen, not until the year of 2013 or even 2014.
And again, 370T has been killed, we're not gonna see it.
They will slash $50 with dual-core processor, half of the promise internal storage, lower screen resolution and different chipset. When will it be available? No clue.
Again, just a rumor.
I'd love a reasonably priced, full features tablet that didn't have to be constantly hacked to get the latest Android on it. A Google NExus tablet sounds good.
Well word from digitimes(which has a good track record with asus rumors) is reporting that not only will asus release the nexus tablet but the memo 370t is still being made and will be released in may-June.

But when I come to the NC forum portion, I really want my information to be relevant to that device.

The unfortunate thing of Nexus devices is that Google will likely specify that it does NOT include a micro SD card slot, which might make it a non-starter for me.

In principle, if you compare the 10th generation of Intel or the 3rd AMD, then you will not see much difference in price. But, if you think for a long time, then you need to take it under AMD, because motherboards are cheaper and will still support the 4th generation of processors. It will even be enough to take some Ryzen 5 2600 in conjunction with a motherboard on socket B350

waiting until the 5000 series shortage is gone is much better
people will sell their 3rd series probably for half the price on ebay
basically waiting is just much much better than buying in this situation on both sides (intel and amd)
@KeyPlays133 what GPU are you gonna use?
if you haven't chosen you should get like a 2060 super/2060/1660 super
get the 2060 super if you want to "futureproof" your pc for 2 years or more or just wait for the rtx 40 series (if they exist) this year
20 series would probably be dirt cheap if those get released
or if AMD actually gets their ray tracing game on par with NVIDIA
