Question RCS stopped working? - Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

A week ago, RCS messaging on stock Samsung App was still working. Updated the Carrier services app on Google play and it seems to have turned off the RCS feature. Called Vodafone (carrier) and asked Samsung about the issue. The seem to be throwing the ball back and forth with no solution. I've tried the google messages but it's stuck on verifying. Done some troubleshooting with no effect.
Went back on the default Samsung Messaging app but it says Registration failed.
Anyone going through the same thing? Who's got solutions that worked for them

Where do you live ?
I had the exact same issue, first you need to verify your number on Google Messages, if it does not work : Airplane Mode, wipe date of Carrier Services and Messages app, then try again.
For me it has been stuck on verifying for 3 days. Jibe service was buggy.
When it's verified, download Google Chat, and go back to the Samsung app, a prompt is gonna ask you for your phone number, and that's it.

I live in New Zealand.
Thanks! I've already done that. Ill wait for a few days to try again

And, then people wonder why so many businesses in the US are adopting iMessage to communicate with their customers instead of RCS. Google has got to take control of RCS completely. Otherwise, there's no hope for it. These carriers are worthless animals.

If they wanted to, they could just use SMSor anything else universal.

SMS doesn't work well for business related chat -- too many features lacking.

I don't think people really care about the RCS feature above other features their preferred texting app may have. Otherwise everyone would just switch to Google messages and that would be that. But nope. My entire extended family of around 50 relatives are 98% Android users. I would say only 4 of us use Google messages. And that's cause I forced my two kids to and then installed it in my cousins galaxy without him knowing and he just left it on. That's it.

Google Voice Integration Issues

So I got my one, when it was being activated in the store there was an error of some sort and it came down to a google voice issue. It was eventually fixed after a number of calls but I left with it working. I came home and loaded it up with my apps and re activated google voice so i can text from the web etc etc. It worked for a while but now my phone cannot make and recieve calls and texts, I only have data,
I called sprint last night they told me to wait until 2pm today even though he did not know what the issue was....its very fristrating, I get some recorded message from a guy saying that the number i called is not in service when I just called that number from another phone.
Has anyone else had any issues like this?
I would try disabling the integration on voice.Google.com and re enabling it once you confirm your phone works properly without it. I'm integrated and have never had this issue.

Yeah, that was the first thing i did...on the phone for yet another hour..they seem dumbfounded. Could a boot loader unlock cause this?

I'm not the most knowledgeable on this but Im about 99.9 percent sure there's no way either could cause your problem. Its something with the service programming either on googles end or sprints end.
This may be somewhat helpful I use Google voice for my voicemail.when I installed and provisioned it at the last step it gave me an error and said it could not save numbers but it does work!

I would de-integrate then call up Sprint and have them push a hands free activation to your phone. Wait 30 minutes then try re-integrating with Google Voice. I know this error happened frequently in the beginning with accounts that were integrated and then they switched phones without de-integrating first. I use the Sprint-GV integration and its why whenever I switch phones, I always de-integrate first, activate the new phone, then re-integrate with GV. Hope you get it figured out soon.
Thanks for the input. You guys were on the right track. My third hour long call got to the issue. Seemingly my phone wasn't fully provisioned and it was a network error but my activation of Google voice kicked my network completely out of sync. Still all a little strange but I'm back up and running. Hopefully when I re enable gvoice I won't get the same error. I was also told the first two people I spoke with should of seen this....I guess you gotta be lucky with who you get on the phone.

Texts stuck "sending" and other issues

Ok everyone figured I'd come here to where the experts live. Haven't been here in awhile.
Recently my S8, wifes S8, and our sons S8+ all have the same issues.
The first issue is texts get stuck "sending". This happens with WiFi on or off, with wifi calling on or off, and I even tried changing off LTE to just 4G/3G/2G and even 2g in settings to see if that would help. I'm on the latest firmware from TMO ending in QEF, well we all are.
The other one is apps like FB and others aren't alerting but they will show the number of alerts even after they've been checked. I've reinstalled these apps and the problem persists, and then I can reboot my phone or wifes phone and all the alerts start working again for awhile and then die eventually.
The texting issue though persists and is random when it will hang and when it doesn't.
According to TMO rep at the store it's a bug in the firmware with bixpy that was pushed out, but I frankly don't buy it and figured I'd hit the guru's up here and see if you guys have any thoughts.
Thanks in advance guys and gals....
I too have had the random "texts get stuck sending" issue. I haven't had it in a while though (now that I've said that I'm sure I will).
I unfortunately don't have any suggestions.
I ended up using googles version of messages due to this. Only on stock text app do i have any problems anymore. I also noticed on the stock app that my phone would say "sending" when the other side would actually get it, but it was at random.
You don't have a cellspot repeater or router do you? Last time I had it, my device was hung and needed reboots. Just a thought.
Thanks for the feedback, yes I have a cell spot, but I also have the issue other areas of town too with no real specific place thatbit always happens.
I'm going to reverse back from the qef firmware and see if that resolves things. This has been so annoying, and it just started about two weeks ago.
Thanks again everyone.
I have had the same issue with sending texts too. I have been using the stock messenger app. I may just switch to textra.
Same issue here. A temporary fix, try turning on airplane mode and off. Works for me a times
Also happening to me on the XAA firmware (have unlocked NA variant) with the stock messaging and Google messages.
So I'll ask the question begging to be asked (at least by me): How does one disable this messaging app and use "stock messaging" app?
Thanks in advance....

Just get a app disabler for Samsung from play store like BK Disabler.
If I were you, just download Android Messages. It's simple and fast.
However, I do not recommend disabling stock messaging, unless you don't like getting EAS (Amber/Weather/Presidential Alert)
Having the exact same issues and it's driving me crazy because I really like this phone. I don't get notifications for any of my apps but when I open them I can see the new messages. A reset seems to fix the problem but it only lasts about an hour before it starts doing the same thing. I've tried using different messaging apps but the same thing. And the fact that I don't get notifications for other apps it can't just be a text messaging issue right?
Happened to me for almost 2 months but haven't had an issue in about a week. Called t mobile, they created a ticket and said they'll be working on it. Few days after speaking to them, problem went away.
This has been happening intermitantly for me as well. It's been bad the past three days. I'm currently in coversations with T-mo's engineering team and they seem to be coming up with a bunch of dead ends. It's not a location based thing as it's been happening over a 20 mile radius in the past few days for me. Other people on T-mo network that I'm freinds with or I work with aren't having any problems. I'm wondering if just a fresh SIM card could solve it?
I have data connection although it seems a little sluggish compared to when I originally got the phone. Similar to OP I've tried all the "G's" modes, with wifi calling on, with it off, with cellular network preffered with wifi calling on and off. With Textra, with stock messaging app. I've factory reset to no avail. I've pulled and re-inserted the SIM card to no avail. This is incredibly frustrating for a flagship phone on a network where I've had no previous issues.
UPDATE: T-Mobile sent me a new SIM card and that seems to have cleared up the issues. Not sure if it just hapened to coincide with T-Mo tower fixes or anything else like that in my area but I'm back to normal operation. Anybody else experiencing this I recommend you push customer service to send you a new sim.
my husband and i are having a strange issue where we can message pictures and video clips to other people that don't have the s8, or aren't on tmobile and they'll send and receive just fine, but when we try to send to each other, the first attempt to send fails, but the second attempt goes through?

Not Receiving Text Messages Intermittently

Is anyone having the issue of not receiving text messages from different people on T-Mobile S8? There are several people that text and I don't receive the text messages. My wife is in the same network as I'm with an iPhone 7 Plus, a friend of mine in the T-Mobile network as well with an iPhone 7. A coworker in the sprint network with an iPhone 5S and a friend of my on T-Mobile with an S8. Sometimes I don't receive their messages. My Friend with the S8 sometimes doesn't receive mines. Anyone has this issue? I have several weeks with this issue and it's frustrating.

For the past few weeks I have been reading about text messages not being delivered/received on different networks. Some Google Pixel phone users face this as well and google said that this will be fixed in November's update. I haven't noticed any issues with my text messages. Looks like you have a mixture of Android and iOS devices and these usually didn't play well together especially in group chats I know some iPhone users would temporarily turn off iMessage to have a proper group conversation.

Thank you for the speedy reply. I'm not doing group conversation. They're individual text messages. It's random that's the worse. It can be working fine and then it just breaks. I have tried with the Samsung Stock Messaging app and the Google Messages App as well.
I am having the same problem. I tried clearing messing app cache and system cache, but this has not solved the problem for me. I am considering a factory reset next.
I have an unlocked s8+ on verizon and I also am intermittently not receiving texts. Co-workers and I tested it yesterday and I was intermittently not receiving texts from a windows phone on sprint, a unlocked note 8 on verizon and an iPhone 6s+ on verizon. I would receive a majority of the texts, but once in a while I would miss one... Issue seems to be with my s8+.

I am factory reseting now. One frustrating thing about this problem is that I won't know if it fixed it or not unless someone tells me they texted me and I didn't reply.
BTW, I am pretty sure Samsung customer service employees don't know anything. They wanted me to send my phone in for repair without even trying any troubleshooting first.
I am so frustrated with this problem. Its a basic feature of any smartphone to be able to text and expect you would receive one, but not the case. Mine goes from never receiving or sending at times, to getting multiple copies of the same text. Way to go Samsung to destroy a great product. Problem is they haven't acknowledged or done anything about it.
Same on S7 edge
TLDR: same issue on my Tmo S7 Edge last few weeks. Not just S8 problem.
Full: So interesting - I came here to look at S8 reviews etc, just dropped my S7 edge and busted my glass. Thinking about upgrade to S8 vs fixing glass for $275, partially because of my intermittent text issues on S7. Samy symptoms. Just with a few contacts I regularly communicate with, mix of Android and iPhone, mix of carriers. No way to know I've missed one until they ask if I received. They get 'sent' reciept like normal no matter what. No apparent impact on my ability to send - they get all of mine. Just sporadic recieving problems . Tried clearing cache, switching SMS apps, resetting APN, etc...but no luck. Factory reset is next. Then have to decide on what to do next...S8 or Pixel 2, or fix screen.
Same problem with mine and my wife's S7s. It's sproadic, not related to carrier or phones, or even locations. It's very frustrating that TMobile won't acknowledge there's a major issue here that is affecting a lot of people.
I used to have the problem as well. Then I dumped all SMS apps I used to use, and went back to ORIGINAL app that came with the ROM, and problem disappeared.. So my question is - Do you have messages not received/Sent with the ORIGINAL built in app?
Also - Oreo Beta can be downloaded today. Seems like Google have a fix (to whatever the bug was) anyways.
Same problem with S8 on Sprint. It's not a carrier issue, it's Samsung (or Android). There is no help. Nothing from Samsung or Sprint. I've missed so many important messages, at least 6 a day. At least my fiance knows about the problem, and if I don't respond she'll shoot me a screenshot showing me what I missed. Until she started that, I had no clue how many texts I was actually missing. I've been to Sprint, on the phone with Sprint, on the phone with Samsung. They're all useless and won't do anything. I've already done factory reset, changed from Google messages back to stock, turned off all entrance enhanced features etc, cleared cache, changed network mode from automatic to LTE/CDMA. Nothing helps. The problem continues. So we're all stuck with a broken product until Google/Samsung fixes the problem. Who knows when that will be. I'm highly angered about this problem, it's BS. I'm trying to get Sprint to let me out of my lease without fees, but so far that's going nowhere. So I'm paying for a phone that is broken.

I use a 3rd party, not sure about the stock one. I think the app is going to sleep and missing texts.
Same problem here. Been going on for months. Completed the following: Formatted phone, deleted txt message DB, used stock sms app, and used already activated sim to test. I just activated a new sim and will see what happens.
It might be the sleep mode or saving battery issue.
Do messages come through with wifi?
Had the problem with samsung app but not with Google messages.

If you are not receiving text messages from iPhone owners it's because the iPhone owner doesn't have their phone set up right. There is a setting on the iPhone in imessages that has sms and a check box. That is for people that don't have imessage, they check that box and anyone who has Android phone will now get text message.
I have both iPhone 8 & Galaxy S8.

It seems that if you read online on T-Mobile forms in other areas people are not receiving all their text messages if not 10 to 50% of them are missing people are finding this out by logging into T-Mobile digits and same messages they never got through the native messaging app after the 8.0 update.
I noticed this when I did not receive messages for a good while until I put my SIM card into a Galaxy S8 and 20 to 30 messages popped up that were pre conversation topics from the past days before after talking to T-Mobile and digits support team they are being told to replace the device one time and Advising customer to keep the Nougat software until a fix ia found or until further notice this issue seems to be tied to the Z2 only and Oreo update just wanted to throw this out there as a pre warning the alternative solution the tech told me is that you can use a different messaging app but who's to say you'll ever know if you're not getting all your messages .
It evidently seems to be affecting incoming messages alternatively at your own choice maybe Nougat could be flashed back "Not sure" but this is a real life issue for this phone . If you want to be certain and surprised login to T-Mobile digits activate it and see what messages that you have not got
Hope this information is appreciated.

What about it ? Wether on wifi calling or not this is a message issue acknowledged and very pronounced In many ways . It's simple to see with a few trial and error tests regardless of wifi
Or LTE Data
Seeing all your messages show up on TMO digits comparing them to messages you've got or never got .....putting a SIM card in a different phone and seeing multiple messages pop up that have still been trying to push through that are tied to specific time line conversations. TMobile literally already acknowledges this it's just nobody is realizing it because they're not expecting messages that they're actually missing from people.
Feel free to test it if you would like have multiple people text you wait for it to come through not saying it affects everybody T-Mobile did tell me that they already have a ticket out for it and it's software related to this particular phone.
On top of the SMS of all things is one of the most critical uses of a phone .
Just trying to shed light on a rising issue that most would never be aware of .
Because all Android phones ship with settings set to wifi preferred wich leads to dropped calls and unsent messages after setting up a home wifi. And if you have no sim installed your obviously using wifi calling wich is most definitely not as dependable as volte.

I'll look into that....but if your not on wifi calling "connected" to a wifi network you would still be using volte right ? This is happening to people conversating anywhere Mobily in a vehicle not on wifi. Messages for instance with my brother whereas I never got a reply in which I would have came through after I put my SIM in my s8.
People are seeing ungotten messages in TMobile digits.
I don't really care i was just looking out for the community here with a potential problem hindering, and T-Mobile tech support made acknowledgement about it . I highly doubt a community across United States all at once is screwing up by keeping WiFi preferred on.
You're only going to be using WiFi calling if you're connected to an actual at work under that settings menu otherwise you would be using cellular by default just like it says to choose below that
You're only going to use Wifi calling if you're connected to a WiFi network otherwise you're going to use cellular default which is the same as being on cellular by default correct me if I'm wrong

How this has not made it to xda is beyond me but it is real situation
It's really not a good feeling to really not know all the messages you should be getting that you're not especially the ones that you're not expecting the scenario is playing out just like it shows in these support forums and with myself.
It's like not "Some messages are blocked in a limbo status never reaching the target device
Like myself you could stick a SIM card potentially in another phone and see stuff that pops up that was related to conversations long ago that you never got replied too.
I haven't had much of a problem with T-Mobile to T-Mobile network SMS but many other people I know that use other carriers I never got replied to until I stuck my SIM card into a different phone of mine.
It's a janky situation and if TMobile is already acknowledge this and told to replace phones one time then evidently the issue has gotten out to the people that needs to I just don't know how nobody here on XDA knows about this .
I have tried multiple text apps and nothing seems to be different I even thought about editing access point but usually that only solves MMS problems
This issue was already addressed with a fix to boot by xda. I had the issue my self. With no issues after I updated to oreo.

I tried this method and it did not work, after the Oreo update I tried again but kept having issues. Decided to Force stop the CPS app and install the Google Carrier services app and this worked. Don't remember where I heard/read about Google carrier services. BTW using Googles messages app now and seem to be receiving all messages.
I discovered this a few weeks ago then installed google messages and everything works now

I have already experienced this issue. It's NOT related to wifi calling at all. I tested it with wifi calling on and with it off, same results.
What worked for me to FIX it was to clear storage and clear cache on the "native" app. You won't lose messages already on the device but you should backup with Carbonite sms first to be safe. Once I wiped storage and cache for the app I started receiving messages again normally.
I found out I was missing messages by installing digits. It's all working now but I'm keeping digits temporarily just to be safe.

I deleted and deactivated digits completely. After I had it completely removed from my account, I rebooted and changed to Android Messages and everything has been fine since October.
Are the issues with this phone sorted yet? I was looking to purchase the T-Mobile variant of this phone but have read about issues such as not receiving texts (huge problem), VoLTE not working with Galaxy S7s, and WiFi connection issues. If they are not fixed, can they at least be avoided by refusing the Oreo update? I would like to avoid rooting my phone just to fix a defect and would only consider using a 3rd party messaging app if it fixed the problem without introducing other problems.
I have my phone choices currently narrow down to the Z2 Force, LG G6, and Galaxy S7 (all are currently in the $400 range). I was leaning towards the Z2 since it's the most powerful, but the issues I'm reading about seem quite severe.
After a little more research I see 2 patches were released for the Z2F after the Android 8.0 update.

I found a Reddit thread (https://www.reddit.com/r/Moto_Z/comments/7zxcpo/tmobile_moto_z2_force_ocx271_update/) where some people mentioned it fixed the SMS notification and Galaxy S7 VoLTE issues. I didn't see anything anything discussing the Bluetooth/WiFi issues or more importanly, the SMS not being received issue (the topic of this thread). Can anyone comment if those were fixed?

The latest 2 Oreo updates have fixed those problems, and they didn't affect everyone.

Can't download from play store

So I've got a couple problems that I hope someone here can help me fix.
I've only had my phone for a few days and things were going great until this morning. I received a text message and replied to it, but my response just sat on "sending..." until it failed. Once it failed I was able to tap on it to send it again, and it went through. Tested sending other messages to the same person and one other and I'm having the same issue. One person has a Galaxy S8 and the other an iPhone SE, so it's not limited to just Android or iOS users. All texts I try to send sit on "sending..." forever until they fail, then they send right away if I tap to resend. I've tried every supposed fix that I could find online to people that were having the same problem on older Samsung phones, but nothing has helped. The one solution that seems like it might help, I can't find on this phone. I've used both the stock Samsung Messages app and the Google Messages app, they both refuse to send messages and I can't find this setting in either app or in the phone settings. The setting I am referring to is called "message center" and it's supposed to be in the settings for the messages app, where you can change a number that corresponds to your carrier to allow text messaging or something like that. Like I said, I have no problem receiving texts.
My other issue is one I actually ran into on my Note 4 I was using before I got the 9. I had 8.1 installed on the 4 but I tried everything I could find online to try and fix this issue too, but didn't really have any luck. Now the problem has returned on my 9, I can't download updates or new apps from the Play Store. They just sit on "downloading". The download might finally start after letting it sit for an hour or so, but they won't initiate right away. So I've taken to using APKPure or APK Mirror to do my updates.
I've tried many things to solve both issues, but nothing has helped. The only thing I've not done is a factory reset because I really don't want to go through that already. Plus I did factory resets/clean ROM installs on the Note 4 and the Play Store issue always came back. I'm at wits end and am about ready to switch to an iPhone for good. Really don't want to as I much rather prefer Android and especially the Note phones, the 9 is a beast. But I can't take this Play Store issue much longer and not being able to send texts is not acceptable. So any help on either issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Have you tried changing your network settings? Have you made any modifications to your phone? Is play store problem on WiFi, mobile data, or both? Have you cleared data in play store and services? I think if you've had the problem with two of your phone, is there some commonality between the two? Some none mainstream apps or modification you did to both? If you've tried any and all fixes you've seen on Google, I think you need to factory reset, no point jumping through hoops to fix it if you're not willing to do a reset once at least. There are limited backup capabilities without root that you could use. But really you want to reset, and use as close to factory settings as you can for a while and see if the problem is still there before adding all your own apps and stuff.
What mods have you done to the note 9? Doesn't sound like a stock setup you got going there. Are you using the stock factory sms app or did you download an apk of it from apk pure?
My next question would be what network are you on and where and what model device.?

The text message issue seems to have resolved itself. I'm hoping it was just an issue with my network and won't return. I'd still really like to find the "message center" setting that's mentioned so many times online though in case I need it in the future.
I didn't bother listing what network I'm on since these issues appear to happen on many models of phones and all networks, but here is my info. 512gb model Note 9 on Spectrum Mobile, who is using Verizon's network I believe. My Note 4 on the other hand is a T-Mobile version running on their network through Straight-Talk.
Both issues happened on wifi and lte.
Like I said, I've done everything listed online I could find. I've cleared app cache, app data, reset network settings, booted into safe mode, booted into recovery to clear cache, installed the absolute newest versions of play services and play store apks, and whatever else I've read or thought of. And like I said, I've done clean installs/factory resets on my Note 4 to try and fix the play store issue and it always comes back. So I highly doubt doing so will permanently fix it on the 9.
I've been using Android since it first was released and have been in IT for much longer, but this play store issue has me stumped. The 9 isn't modified in any way other than running a dark theme from the Samsung Theme app. I guess if nothing turns up here I will give it a few days and then do a reset if it doesn't resolve itself, reinstall apps slowly so I can see if one of them is responsible even though safe mode ruling them out didn't work.
You don't need to worry about the message center, I'm pretty sure it's not even a thing anymore, I remember it from the days of the Nokia 5110 haha. If you really want to know it and your messages app has a setting to add it you can call your network provider for it or look on Google for your networks message center, but I'm sure it's not even necessary, especially if your test messaging works, if you needed to enter the message center and you didn't, you wouldn't be able to text at all. As I said, I'm positive it's a thing just from the olden days anyway.
As for play store, I have had a similar problem in the past but it was always just a short lived issue that resolved itself, but if it's happening to you repeatedly then I don't know, other than a reset.
