Dear users,
Considering all 3C apps are now based on the same source code, they all behave the same way, and will exhibit the same issues. Any queries will also likely applies to all apps.
To make my life easier while continuing to provide support here (and start with a clean slate), I decided to close all my app threads and open a fresh new thread here.
With your continuous help and support, the past 4 years have been a great adventure and experience. Let's take a fresh start and continue this amazing adventure.
Thank you all!
Hi,
I bought this app and gave it a try since it is the only one I found with REAL background data management capabilities. So, this is a great beginning, although the app is not completely useful to me. I was looking for an automatic background data toggle following WiFi status, I mean, turn on bg data when WiFi is on and turn it off at WiFi shutdown. I know this is just a manual toggle, but I was wondering if I can use the toggle along with any profiler (like Tasker, Setting Profiles, etc). This way, I could set up a rule that triggers on WiFi On/Off and changes bg data status using your widget. Unfortunately, this cannot be done as there is no 'activity' to be associated to under Multi Toggle activities node. So, my suggestion is that you expose any public activity to toggle bg data, so it can be used when setting up rules from any profiler. Of course you can also develop an app to auto turn on/off bg data on wifi on/off... ... a lot of people is waiting for that since bg data has sense when wifi is on in most of the cases. Otherwise, it will drain battery.
Another suggestion, please make an easy way to uninstall when installed as system app (restore to user app or something... just to avoid a manual removal from /system/app).
Thanks!

Thanks for your comment and support.
I will try to add an 'uninstall' procedure... Indeed it will make it much easier for me too
For the public activity, I will see to it too, though I'm not sure it's really recommended, the power-widget has been doing that until 2.3.3 and it was reported as a security hole... Would be nice though.
Just wondering something about activities, in Tasker (or similar app) can you manually specify the package, the class and the parameters? If so, even if it's not public, you might be able to do it!
Don't have the info at hand, but will update this post asap.
I haven't downloaded this app yet, but I found it because it claims to control the background data toggle via a widget. Just to confirm that we're talking about "background data" and not just "auto-sync," correct? On my DROID 2 this option is: settings -> data manager -> data delivery -> Background data.
Any updates on reverting from the system application install? I need to be able to return this phone to pre-root status.
I've found that "auto-sync" only applies to google accounts: gmail, gmail contacts and google calendar on the DROID 2. My primary email is an IMAP account and I'd prefer not to receive these notifications (and ones from other aps) during the evening hours.
My phone also likes to stop syncing randomly, and toggling background data corrects the problem. Going through the maze of settings is just too annoying to be toggling this option on a regular basis.
Also, this thread belongs in the Paid Software Announcement and Discussion forums. By posting here you are gaining an unfair advantage!

Hello and thanks for your interest in this app.
Yes it indeed controls background data, you should see the corresponding setting being actually changed!
And yes it needs to be installed as system app for a number of toggles to work, which is only possible on rooted phones, which luckily is your case! System apps have more rights than user-apps and a number of settings cannot be changed by user apps at all no matter what! Even using su/root feature can't help!
Note that the app will do it for you from the settings. There is no automatic way to move the app back to a user app, yet.
What you can do is try the app for a few minutes to see if it works well for you. Should you have any issues don't hesitate to contact me. You have 15 minutes to try it or get an immediate refund from Google, but I can still cancel the order at any time which will get you a full refund.
PS: I noticed 2 behaviors when installing as system app, either the settings window disappears, then no reboot is necessary, the app is installed in system folder and ready for use. Or the app says it succeeded (or failed) and the settings windows remains open. In this case I noticed it's always installed as system app, but it requires rebooting the phone. Still working on that.

I didn't know about this forum I'm very sorry for this mistake! Any ways to move the thread there?
At the time of creation, I tried contacting a moderator, but not sure it's my browser/computer (tried with Chrome and IE) but could reach the page to find who's moderator.
Anyway, no excuses, will try to contact a moderator asap.
I tried to quickly change my original post thinking that you wouldn't respond so quickly. I spotted the screenshots that clearly show the option to install as a system app, which answered my question.

Any idea when you will implement this? As my edited message above now says, I need the ability to return this phone to pre-root status. How difficult is manually uninstalling a system app like yours? Pardon my ignorance, but I'm only rooted for a specific un-related reason, so I haven't played around in the rooted world much.

You know what? Just published an update that will do it!
Note it will require a reboot and all existing widgets must be replaced after!
Can you please report how it works for you?

Hi,
Gave it a whirl and it seemed to work. Unfortunately, I tried your new "uninstall from system" options and it wound up uninstalling the entire application from my DROID 2. I'll get it back on there when I have some more time to play with it. Just be aware that it does a little more than uninstalling from system.
Is this greyed out heading "(System) Toggles" supposed to stay greyed out once it's installed as a system application? The only indication that a system install was in effect was that the option to install as a system application now said uninstall.
You may want to leave some time for a user to grant su permissions when installing as a system application. I've seen this on other apps. It took a couple tries to be quick enough to allow your app permissions before it reported that it didn't have them.

Well, that's why I initially left this out, because uninstall from system is not as easy as installing to system! I'll try to improve it by moving the app back to user space instead, but then users might end-up with multiple installs... Quite tricky.

This is just informative as I want to make sure users understand how system (or power-widget-based) toggles do work (or do not work)...

I indeed noted that sometimes it failed after being granted su permissions... Note sure how to permanently solve this, but I'll try to put a delay before launching further commands under su process to see if it improves.
Wish it was easier to test it, but unfortunately it often requires rebooting the phone!!!
What does "synchro (system)" control? I figure what the "synchro (power)" version does, but system? Seems to disable background data, but what else?

Actually it controls both background data and auto-sync, enabling or disabling both. It disables both only when both are enabled.

Yeah, I can see what you mean.
Your widget successfully causes the background data checkbox to toggle. Unfortunately, it doesn't work for my needs, however:

Unchecking background data with your widget still does not stop the IMAP emails from coming through, nor does it correct the syncing problem like toggling the option directly does. The phone seems to know that background data is off (as tested by attempting to start the Market), but it doesn't have the same effect. Only thing I noticed is that toggling background data off with your widget leaves a popup asking you to confirm if you go through the system settings and look at the checkbox. Perhaps the setting doesn't take full effect until a user acknowledges this box, which your widget currently does not do. Not sure if that's even possible.

Background data option (in settings or elsewhere) is a settings that can be checked by application, but it doesn't actually prevent any app from using data connections in the background (the warning message when disabling it).
Your IMAP app probably doesn't care about this particular setting.
On 3 phones I tested using the toggle never brought the warning message, even when opening the settings for that option!? On the other hand the warning/confirmation message is always shown when enabling WIFI localization.
Looks like a ROM's bug?
....looks great~ got to try this .

Could you help me please? Because I'd really love to be abble to use the system toggles (specially the one to toggle System Location).
Thank you

This feature requires a rooted device as explained in app description: "10 System toggles (requires rooted phones to install app to system)"
Are you sure your device is rooted as you mentioned in your PM your /data directory is empty I suspect it's not.
Hi, this is a great app but it won't turn off the location (system) after turn on.
I have to manually go settings > google > untick everything.
Folks;
For some reason, I can no longer get to the settings on my KFHD 7 any longer. As well, the buttons that usually appear on the bottom of the screen (Home, and the like) no longer show there - except briefly at times.
Is there some other way to get into settings for this device? I'd like to perform a factory reset, but can't get to it.
TIA;
Patrick
Are you rooted? Do you have gmail installed? I noticed gmail will glitch the notification bar at times.
if you installed GMail, try opening it and then exiting. That usually clears up the disappearing status bar for me. If hit, try holding the power button to do a re boot. Maybe twice.

The device is rooted, has GAPPs. Starting Gmail doesn't seem to clear this up.
I note that when I start Gmail, the icons flash in for a moment, and then disappear. They also do the same if I select 'Setting' from the Gmail menu upper right.

tried the Gmail app start to bring back the system menu. No joy. Have rebooted a number of times; sometimes by holding the power button until the device shuts off, most times by holding the power button, and selecting 'shut down' from the menu that appears. No luck with that, either.
Thanks for the suggestions.

I suggest you turn off notification for all apps you have loaded or updated. Then go into each app and close out all pending notices like unread chat threads of phone messages. One of your apps is trying to display an alert that is bugging the notifications bar.
You can try to find a settings shortcut app or if you install a secondary launcher, you can get it in from their settings screen. I'm not sure if ADW launcher EX had that option but I just installed Go Launcher EX and the settings drawer button will take you to the stock kindle settings page.

How do you turn off notifications? If that's in settings, I can start settings. If it's in the Gmail app, then it's too late, as I already uninstalled it.
It's a poser. Thinking now about how to uninstall other google things (framekwork, etc.) to try an clear this.

Drag down from the top of the screen. Select more, then applications, then notification settings. Un check all or most and test
A factory reset wouldn't be too bad, unless you put a TON of things on there and it's just too much work. I did a factory reset on mine already. When I was playing around and trying out different combinations and what works and what not, some how I had used up 3 GB of data already Also if anything was broke, it should be cleared out and just watch each app you install. I had to do that to figure out my battery drain problem.
I figured out what I wanted to install and the correct way of getting certain apps installed, I haven't reached 1 GB of used data yet. I'm glad to have done a reset.

If there's some way to do a factory reset without using the settings, I'd do it. I'm not worried about re-installing.
I think the problem started when Amazon turned off the advertisement/lock screen. Before then, all was working well.
Since this started, I've un-installed as many apps a I can. Does anyone know how to uninstall something that doesn't show up in the 'apps' section of the phone?

In my case the top bar was available for a few seconds after rebooting. Enough time to clear notifications. It didn't bug until the first notification posted to the top bar.

There were many suggestions already on how to get to the settings page so you can do a system restore. I know for a fact you can do it with go launcher ex.
ADW launcher EX will probably do the same thing also. Just click on the three bar on the top right corner when it's installed and running and I believe there was an option to select settings, then you can get to the amazon system restore page.
Problem solved. I was trying to side-load a launcher to see if it would expose some way to get to the 'settings' on the KFHD, and I was told that loading of foreign apps was disabled. When I clicked OK to change that setting, it took me to a section of the settings that allowed me to reset the KFHD to factory default. I did so, and everything seems to be working again.
Maybe this will help anyone else with the issue.

Hi,
I'm having a weird issue when I'm in the recent apps screen. I'm not sure why, but as you can see from the photos, there is an ugly message showing up saying: "couldn't load widget" that specifically only appears when the there are apps present in the recent apps menu. I've had the google search app disabled since I upgraded to 5.0.2, but the message keeps showing even if I re-enable it. Further more, a family member also has the z3 compact and I can see that the google search bar doesn't appear on his phone in the recent apps menu even if it is enabled, so in his case the rrecent app menu on his phone doesn't show any widget whatsoever, regardless of whether he has the google search app enabled or not.
I'm no phone expert so I thought the best place to go would be the XDA forums, so I'm hoping you guys can help me figure out how to make this ugly text go away. The only thing that I tried to do, without any results, was to wipe the cache partition.
Thanks

This is a the 'doze' function in Huawei EMUI. A lot of firmwares have this issue. It's because Huawei has blacklisted many apps to not to send notification when screen is off. The apps that are white-listed include WhatsApp and some Chinese Tencent crap.
There is a method to enable notifications for all apps but obviously that requires root.
And yeah, Welcome to EMUI, a UI that plays with your emotions.

All I can say is I have turned on every apps to run when the screen is off. I do t get any notifications, only if I go on the app or if I turned the phone off then back on I get a batch of notifications. I receive certain apps notification but its not consistent. Can't wait for a good root, to get rid of this crappy EMUI and hopefully the camera app will be ported, I'm happy with the pbone, the camera, but this UI is from hell.
Weird, I have 0 issues with notifications, everything turns up very quickly. Gmail, whatsapp, youtube comments... Etc.
I also use Nils lockscreen notifications though, I have the huawei lockscreen notification system disabled. It works very well like this until I find the time to root.

I only disabled the huawei lockscreen notification system (to disable the lockscreen all together you need root). Just use any lockscreen other than the stock magazine one in the theme selecter.
The UI certainly is different. But imho customizable enough that it doesn't get in the way. This is android after all.

OK if you guys have root i have something to try for you. I had issues with the process of GMD gesture control. It was killed by the battery saving tools implemented in this phone.
So I tried freezing certain system apps through titanium to find the one responsible for closing the background process and I think I found it:
It's a process/app called "power genie". I disabled it and now the process sticks. Also I made gesture control a system app, so maybe it's a combination of the two things.
It's not the same issue as you had but maybe it works for you too.

You'd have to try that out for yourself because I never had any issues with notifications coming through and I use third party software (Nils) for lockscreen notification.
What I described is a method that prevents a Huawei "power save" service called power genie killing background processes. No guarantees though, I had issues with gmd gesture control not working after a few minutes and I had to constantly open the app to make it work again. Then I froze power genie and since then it worked 100%.
So it's just my theory that it might stop other apps/processes from being closed as well.
I still dont get notifications coming through via the official gmail app, i might trying that power genie freeze, since any app thats not Huawei wont come through as a notification and thats when I give the app full access.'
I'm not sure if this is worth a try, but there's an option to 'ignore optimisations' on a per-app basis.
In settings > Apps > Advanced > Ignore optimisations > All apps
I've instructed to ignore optimisations for Dash, an app with a background service that launches the app upon connection to my car's Bluetooth OBD. I'll feed back if this has any impact, as I've noticed it doesn't auto-start the app on the Huawei P9 as it used to on my Nexus 5, despite 'protecting' the app in the battery manager.

If it's just Gmail, try deleting cache and data for the Gmail app and reboot first. My wife had the same issue just with the Gmail app a few days ago (on a galaxy s3 though).
Same issue with Instagram so I guess it's not only gmail
I have a tmobile note 8 and ever since I upgraded to Android 8, push notifications are coming in delayed and all at once at random times. Take outlook for example, an hour might go by and then all of a sudden dozens of notifications hit all at once. I checked if maybe battery settings were messing with outlook but it is not blocked and my phone is in performance mode. Seems like my phone is going into a deep sleep and not doing push notifications as they come in. Any idea what is happening?
Same thing happened to mind after update. But seems to be resolved now. I think I went into Apps then pressed the three dots in the up right corner and chose reset app preferences. I also messed about in the notification menu somewhat prior to that.

Factory reset. A good practice after a major software update.

Disable the GOOGLE app in app manager. It should ask you if you want to go back to the factory app. Just agree to this. This is assuming you checked to make sure Battery Manager wasn't turning off your app or the data saver wasn't killing your app data access. If you have done these things and your app notification is still delayed it is being caused by the GOOGLE app. Listed as "Google" in app manager. Hope this helps someone else.
UPDATE: I should have mentioned for a permanent solution and to allow you to continue using the GOOGLE app you can go to the Google Play Store, find the installed GOOGLE app, click uninstall to revert to the factory GOOGLE app, once uninstalled click the three dots at the top right and Uncheck the Auto Updates to the GOOGLE app. This will allow you to retain the factory app functions and should resolve this notification issue at the same time.
