I'm new here, trying to learn but there's a lot to chew, so, be mercy.
I'm a low level microcontrollers programmer, assembler and C; also I make my own PCB's and schematic designs, all this bunch of stacked levels of software is way complex to me.
Welcome to XDA, the home of android modding and android roms. Have look around, there are many threads that will help you understand.

This thread is to all the wonderful developers out there.
I have been enjoying this site since my introduction to the smart phone world. Over the past few months, it has been very helpful with my cdma hero and lust for mods and roms. Now for the question...
What is the best way to learn the arts of software design, coding, and everything you all do on this site. I would like to learn all of this, but just don't know where or how to start.
Any and all advice would be appreciated.
Thanks a bunch.
(And I hope this is in the correct forum. Still a wet behind the ears noob. Lol)
cooking a rom
and programming a program
or making a theme / skin
are very different animals
maybe you should spc. what your ambitions are
because focusing on your interest will give you a short time to get somewhere

Rudegar is correct. Focus on one topic/subject at a time, then start to read the guides on this. For example, if you are looking to cook your own rom, then there are guides/kitchens to help you
Thanks guys. I will look into the guides.
On another note. Lets say one wanted to get into the profession of designing software. Whats the best course for that? Traditional 4 year college?

Also depends on what area you are looking at, i.e. whether you're looking at computer programming (source coding), software engineering, game designing etc
Plenty of courses at universities, tech's or even by reading up on source material and experimenting with basic programmes and apps for your mobile
Hey guys I am from the U.S out of Michigan and I am pretty new to this stuff so I hope I can get accurate knowledge and helpful information on accomplishing everything I would like to accomplish from being a little bit more involved in the community. I like haging multiple rooted android devices to play around with, although I currently just have my primary device atm. I also want to get into the Cybersecurity field, so I am just beginning to learn programming languages, starting out with Python, and have plans for obtaining a MicroBachelor's degree on the subject of Cybersecurity.

Welcome to the forums!,
Youll find great stuff all around, enjoy!
Hello, I am new here. I primarily joined to ask questions on installing someone's project documented here, but hopefully I will be able to do something myself eventually. I am mainly into older computers and video games consoles but I have recently realised that smartphones are more interesting than I previously thought, more like old PCs I suppose as they are closed systems unlike new PCs. I have a few phones and I've always thought i'd like to use them more but historically I've only really been interested in games and scene demos. I am supposed to be a technical guy but I only have a lot of breadth of surface level knowledge mostly on old computers and not much depth, mostly because of spending all my time dreaming and never doing or actually learning stuff other than reading Wikipedia articles. Hopefully I can change that and get around to learning more in depth. The trouble is finding information that allows you to learn more but is still at a level that you understand.
Anyway from the little i've seen this seems like quite a civilised community so hopefully I will get along with everyone and maybe I'll be able to help with things eventually.

Very nice intro!
Welcome to XDA, hope you enjoy your stay.
Hello fellow XDA'ers. I am an 'experienced' IT nerd, ie I can remember when mobile phones were the size of a suitcase. My background is mainly front end systems - HP/Tandem, a little mainframe, and a lot of PC building and some lower level electronics builds. I have always loved tech, especially when it can have a tangible benefit, and detest planned obsolescence, to the point of recapping monitors before replacing them! I was drawn here by the Android debugging discussions that mentioned the ADB utility, which was not something I had ever toyed with. The knowledge on display here has been invaluable to me, assisting to resolve a major headache on the lead-in to Christmas - MrsCs HTC10 screen problems! I have joined here to throw in my solution to an ancient discussion forum, a cunning workaround that doesnt involve bricking the phone, as I'm sure we are not the only ones in possession of an HTC10.
Cheers,
MrC
Hey there coding people! Hi! I'm James, (SpaceGhostInTheMachine) and I joined the XDA community to gain access to one INCREDIBLE knowledge base. You guys, this community.. is the epitome of what it means to be neighborly. It's astonishing to see such an atmosphere here in the interwebs. Most internet people are toxic as you may have witnessed. I am new to the coding world. For the last year I've delved headlong into the CLI and it's languages. The AOSP is still very foreign to me, but I'm getting a bit more familiar with source code everyday. I enjoy working with HMI's and I would like to start designing UX's for IoT hub interfaces and displays. There's so much to learn. I am a multipotentialite or a polymath, not to tout. That just means I know a lot about a lot. Also, means I MUST absorb all the available information pertaining to.. well.. everything. If there's anything I can teach or any way I can help anyone. Call upon me and there are no stupid questions. Only over-complicated solutions to simple problems. Thanks for having me! Take care!
