-reboot system now
-apply update from sdcard
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition

-mounts and storage

the options in red are the ones u will use normally.
-wipe data/factory reset

-wipe cache partition
This wipes the phones cache (can create more space for a short period)
-install zip from sdcard.
this has submenus as follows
-choose zip from sdcard
-apply /sdcard/update.zip
-toggle signiuter
-toggle script
-*****go back*****
we only use the option shown in red.
Now using this option, search for the file u want to flash....normally a zip format somewhere on your sd card.
Select file and scroll up and highlight yes select it.
Flashing will commence...no u cant go back.
OK when its finished use *****go back***** option till u get to main menu.
Use -reboot phone option.
If you get status error 0/6, please goto advanced and reboot recovery, wipe all 3 options again, and re flash the rom.
If this problem persists contact the developer of the Rom/Zip file u tried flashing for further help.
-backup and restore
This has 4 menus
-Backup
-restore
-Advanced Restore
-*****go back*****
-Backup
Nandroid backup is the term use to backup the rom, EXACTLY the way it is right now.
So let say you are installing a new rom, and everything that could possibly go wrong happen and you just want to go back the way they were before you did all of this..
Nandroid backup come to the rescue. It simply backup everything ( setting, rom, software, etc.. ) and put it on your phone.
If something happen, go in quick recovery, and recover your phone with that. It then reinstall everything the way it was.
never copy your backup onto pc to save sd space, doing this will cause the backup to fail on restore.
-Restore
Again what it says, this will restore your phone exactly the way u backed it up...even to the wallpaper ad ringtones!
-mounts and storage
this allows u to mounts any part of your phone giving u access to them. DO NOT ENTER system damage can become from playing in here.
-advanced.
again loads of special menus....the top 2 options are the only ones u need..
-Reboot Recovery
-Wipe dalvik cache
Self explanatory really using them.
Basics to use when installing or flashing a new rom are as follows
Wipe data
Wipe cache
Wipe Dalvik
reason being is if you don't trace elements fro the previous rom can cause FC's ( Force close) problems.
Wiping all 3 will stop this.
I would suggest regular backups of your current rom, so if anything did happen u can restore to a newish time.
I always have 2 backups of my current rom, as i have the sd space to store them,
*please note* a single backup with data2sd will consume around 1gb+ in space on your sd, so factor that in when doing these.
Hi my HTC Salsa has starting a repetative restart, everytime I turn it on it gets as far as HTC Quietly Brilliant then blacks out restarts and gets the same distance and repeats. Anyone got an idiots guide on what to do? (I'm not very good at this xD)
Thanks xx
I have found this from here:
FIRST OF ALL DOWNLOAD THE ROM AND THE ADD-ONS PACKAGE.
1. Back Up all Your Important Files as the Rom is wipe-only.
2. Copy the rom to SD CARD and Boot to CWM revovery.
3. Click WIPE CACHE PARTITION -> wipe
4. Click Advanced -> Wipe Dalvik - Cache -> wipe
5. Click Mount Partition ->
a. Format /System -> yes
b. Format /Data -> yes
c. Format /Cache -> yes
6. Click Wipe Data/Factory Reset -> yes
7. Install the rom
Some ROMs need just wipe data/reset factory and wipe dalvik cache.
SO could someone tell what is needed to do and what those 5abc means and are they really "must to do"- things?

All to be sure, to not have any conflicts...
With TWRP Recovery, go to "WIPE" section and check "Dalvik", "System", "Data", "Cache" swipe OK button and all it's done in one step
You just have to Install your new Custom ROM !!!
To be sure of the answer you can ask pulak861 as I see these are the instructions of his rom installation xD don't worry I think they're all ok just to make sure you don't have any issues while flashing your new rom and testing it then, I followed all these steps yesterday to flash the velocity rom and nothing unusual happened, before that the only thing I used to do was a wipe data factory reset, and wipe cache partition too.

When installing an update (not a new version) of the custom rom you already have it's not completely necessary to do a full wipe/data cache, but if you have fully working back up, do it just to be sure everything works fine
Hello. Can anyone explain me a couple of things? I wanted to flash Cyanogenmod 11 on my S Plus. But I failed. There was a couple of instructions which I dont understand. I mean these:
-Reboot inside CWM or TWRP recovery which not includesnew partition assignments
-Perform a nandroid backup inside external sdcard (inside TWRP, Backup -> Select all the partitions -> Select Micro SD card as storage -> Swipe)
-Install the new TWRP recovery that includes new partition assignments
Click to collapse
So, my quastions are:
1. What does mean partition assignment?
2. How do I know, which recovery has assignment and which doesn't?
3. What exactly do I need to do with assignments to make my flashing go the right way?
4. When I tried to flash CM11, after first boot I got a message that ENCRYPTION was UNSUCCESSFUL. May it be a result of because I did not do anything to those assigments?
5. Do I have to deal with assignments if there is nothing I want to back up before flashing?
Hello. I wanted to change my partitions into f2fs. I know a lot of people use it and it works like a charm. But unlucky for me, when i change these partitions, and i install RR I cant boot into system, because after tapping it, recovery reboots. Reinstalling recovery helps. How to do it properly? Just updated firmware to the newest, and recovery. I had to reverse to older recovery, because this test version was creating problems, cant boot etc.
This is the simplest procedure:
-Go to recovery.
-Tap wipe.
-Tap Advanced.
-Change or repair file system.
-check on Data and tap change file system.
-check f2fs and then swipe.
-Do the same for cache from step to.
-Copy ROM and other zips to phone.
-Flash.
Then reboot.
Don't format any other partition except cache and data to f2fs.
That's it.

There is an akward situation, whenever i try to go into TWRP for flash any zip aur img file , TWRP does not show any such file. It is 100% sure that i transfer the flasheable zip file to the mido. But TWRP does not show. It shows 0mb internal storage. And i tried to wipe delvik cashe data system but it gives a message and error in red color that data not mount.
So for this i just formate the phone by twrp... It get easly formate by typing YES and delete all the internal storage, after that i can wipe all the stuff under advanced wipe by selecting all the options system data delvik cashe.... Etc.
After doing this i just power off the phone by twrp, and again boot the phone into twrp recovery by pressing volume up+ power button
And then twrp shows 52 gb aprx internal , so i transfer the custom rom zip file and gapps zip to the phone using computer.
After that i had flash the rom and reboot the phone into system..
The phone get started and work awsome.
Now after an hour latter , i had again reboot the device to recovery ... To flash magisk manager ... Guys i am shoked the internal storage shows 0 mb instead of actual memory.
Again does not shows any zip file, img file.
So i have to follow all the steps that i performed before formate the phone and reboot to recovery then transfer magisk and then flash it.
The problem is why twrp again and again shows 0mb error ...
So i also flash the miui using fastboot method (clear all) clean flash, then flash the twrp after that flash the custom rom.
After flashing rom , Now again reboot to recovery it shows 0 mb internal and data unable to mount.
Twrp fix temporary not permanent.
Please tell me if you find any solution for this for permanant fix twrp 0 mb error....

Hi! actually i had similar issue after restoring all partitions (not just boot data and system, but all the 10 or more partitons) on my redmi 4x. i couldnt mount the data partition it got corrupted somehow. I couldnt format it in twrp too. Reflashing everything in my flash solved the problem, just dont forget to NOT choose the option with RELOCK, or you will lock the bootloader.
