"PIN is required this time for security purposes" - Google Pixel 5 Questions & Answers

Just got the Pixel 5 a few days ago, and every 2 damn minutes it wants my PIN. What's the point in having biometrics if I can't even use the damn fingerprint sensor??
Is there a way to turn off the PIN requirement, or at least slow it down a bit?

This is not normal behaviour. Maybe your phone is having constant soft resets. Factory reset perhaps...

[Q] unlocking without fingerprint?

Somehow my phone unlocks itself in my pocket without my finger print. I have all those recognized devices setting disabled.
It's done it 3 times or so now. Today it just set up like 6 new home screens, turned on NFC, and it always calls or texts my little sister, never anyone else. The phone was just in my pocket while I was sitting here using the computer, I hadn't touched it physically in an hour.
I have the lock screen setup using fingerprint or passcode. Fingerprint scanner seems to work fine otherwise.
Stock rooted MM, not even debloated.
Any ideas? I'd get rid of it but there really isn't anything out I am interested in currently.
Do you have any trusted devices associated with it? Sounds like that may be the problem, or nfc tags if you have any

I have my house as a trusted zone, but it is not enabled in the settings. I disabled it due to it not being very trustworthy. I keep BT and NFC turned off all the time as I don't use them.. There shouldn't be any way for this phone to unlock in my pocket, as far as i can tell.
I'm wondering if it's a 6.0 upgrade glitch, I've noticed a few oddities, such as the "safe volume" resetting itself after days of use, randomly. It should only ask you if you're sure after restarting the phone, but sometimes it will just kick in, lower the volume below the threshold, and the warning box will come back up. I listen to my phone ~8 hrs a day at work.

Problem with automatic reset after wrong pin entries (phone in front pocket)

I just got the P10 and like the phone in general but have a big problem with the phone resetting easily when carrying it in my front pants pocket. Our corporate device policy forces a reset after 10 wrong pin entries. This now happened 3x already and I am not 100% sure what I did wrong. I most probably put the phone back into my pocket with the screen still on (but locked) and assume that the screen then takes random inputs. I do have the option turned on to disable screen entry while the phone is in a pocket but this did nothing.
Anybody has an idea how to fix this ?

Bro, Are you saying your device was reformatted due to your corporate's device settings? (email maybe)?

Unresponsive fingerprint sensor

Hey guys,
Recently, I've been having issues with my fingerprint sensor/unlock screen. Sometimes when I pull my phone out of my pocket and attempt to unlock the phone witht he fingerprint sensor, it won't respond. I then press the power button, which turns the screen on and when I use the fingerprint sensor, i can feel the vibration from the button but the screen does not unlock. There is also no fingerprint icon at the bottom. I can't unlock by swiping and putting in my password either. This eventually fixes itself after 30-45 seconds, but its really annoying when I want to use my phone. I've tried switching launchers, thinking that this might have been the problem, but this did not fix it.
I'm running stock OxygenOS 4.1.6, kernel [email protected] #1. I'm using the google launcher currently.
Its something to do with the light sensor cause i have it happen at night time when i am listening to podcasts in bed, it comes up to press one of the volume buttons and back to bypass it - but after 10 seconds it lets you unlock it anyway?
Pocket mode, try turning that off. Pocket mode uses the proximity sensor (I think) to detect whether it's in a pocket or not. If it is, then the fingerprint scanner will refuse to work so as to prevent accidental touches in the pocket
Turned it off last night. It's still happening. And it happens even when the phone is sitting on my desk. I go to try and unlock it and it won't respond.3
Delete and reset them. I find it happens after a month or so of use. I'm on Sultans marshmallow.
Originally when it happened I thought the ROM had gone bonkers and flashed back to stock. I missed the battery life too much on the CM13 build so I tried his marshmallow again. And guess what? It happed again. So I just deleted them and reset my fingerprints and voila! Snappy again.
Let me know if it works for you!
Just delete your current fingerprints and reset them. Should become snappy once again.
Happened to one of my friends and that's how I fixed it for him.
Cheers.
Never had issues with. Maybe you use it wrong side of finger, i mean you must unlock with you finger horizontally and not vertically finger

My phone has started acting wonky, not only with the finger print sensor but sometimes the touchscreen will become unresponsive, but I'll be able to turn the screen on or off. I'll have to try resetting tonight.

Finger print scanner stopped working.

So it seems that the 4a 5G has the same issue with Android 12, as the Pixel 6, and 6 Pro does, in that if you let the battery die, the scanner will no longer work, it works in that you can swipe down, and up and it opens the notifications, but will not even vibrate or anything when trying to unlock. Has anyone else had this?
I think I had this issue on my son's pixel 4a. His fingerprint stopped working, I suspect he let the battery die. I kept trying to set it back up and it wouldn't take. I ended up having to reset the security pin, remove all fingerprints and then set the fingerprints back up. At least I didn't have to factory reset.

Question Lock after screen timeout for the lockscreen is completely gone

Also called "lock timer" under secure lock settings. I can't find it anywhere in the settings! This has been a feature for years. I refuse to use face unlock or fingerprint unlock. This feature temporarily disabled the pattern or PIN unlock for a certain amount of time you set it. For example, you would only have to unlock your device every 2 minutes if you set it this way but during those 2 minutes you could turn your phone on and off without it asking for a password.

Yes! We need that feature again! What if your phone gets stolen in that period of time? People can unlock it no problem! I too searched everywhere without any luck!
Same d*mn thing on my OnePlus Nord. I need the screen to time out to save battery, but I want to manage security separately from battery - under most of my operational conditions, it's fine for the device to be able to be awakened withOUT having to re(-re(-re(-re...))))enter the PIN every few minutes just because the screen turned off to save energy.
It's completely wrong to take away the OPTION for us to choose this combination. Everyone has different security needs; we mustn't be shoved into one too-simplistic bucket!
