Hello, my name is Benjamin, currently a undergraduate student that has gotten very interested in electronics the past couple of months. 21 years of age.
I don't have excessive amounts of money to buy nice toys with or to experiment with, but I was hoping that I could gather wealth and buy an unlocked smart-phone, cheap.
I don't have extensive experience, but I really want to learn from this awesome community. I have been skimming threads and reading, researching and, finally I decided to stop lurking and come out in the clear and introduce myself. I admire the hard work of the seniors, veterans, juniors, semi-pros and other awesome people that think around problems on this board. Thank you already.
I have started hobby-programing python and perl, I have an unreasonable fear of Java, but will hopefully be able to start playing with it if I eventually do get that smart-phone.
So my problem right now is that I don't have a fun little device to play with, could anyone recommend a device that is:
Not crazy expensive
Will be able to connect to Wi-fi network
Will be able to run GV to be used as a VOIP phone
Unlocked and ready to be changed
Easy to access and play around with
Simply, I don't necessarily need it to keep a constant connectivity, just a small computer to toy with.
There are many approaches to the smart-phone idea right now, and your board has been very helpful, I just need a last nudge.
Sorry for the lengthy post, just wanted to introduce myself, and not be lurking anymore. I will try to keep annoying questions to a minimum.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Hello xda,
I want to talk about all the fine users out there. They are the people who make our software alive by installing and using it. They are also the essence of every market out there by giving feedback and rating apps to make it easier for everyone to see good apps in a top list, but some of them are (yes, not all, there are also a lot of fine guys and girls out so, thank you!): the people who make me wonder if they should have a smartphone already!
I mean, I'm a developer for several years now, I'm into android developing for straight a year now and for the time I've seen so much c**p some users posted on apps which just aren't right. One time I've had a chat with a guy who had a problem with my app. Of course I helped him by looking into the source. After a couple of minutes I couldn't find any bugs so I've asked him which rom version he used. It turned out, that he was using his own crappy compiled version of gingerbread.
So instead of voting an app with one or two stars, leaving a no-brain-comment or behave like a teenage mutant monkey, you all should give the developer constructive feedback, like which rom do you use or which android version (especially in the root-tools category), so both sides of the ecosystem can take profit of it. At least use a working rom!
It seems like the audience should take a "how do I give proper feedback"-tutorial instead of a "how do I use this app?" - Introduction (but I guess that’s the problem with b2c software relationships. If you just make a little, single mistake, you'll get the bill multiple times for it).
This has to be said. I don't want to offend somebody but there are some people who aren't nice to developers as like the developers are to them.
So, respect the devs out there which are working in the spare time for you to develop nice applications and help 'em
Cheers!
I have to agree!
Thank you sir
Hi everyone!
Now I have bin designing a lot of phones as concepts and with that i keep learning more and more. Now i get a lot of mails about people asking me to join them in there bisnuss and design for them. Now I had this before and that was all a social test which cost me a lot of time.. But now! It's finally time to start something with a group of people.
Ryan of Andromeda came to me asking me if I could be there designer and well that's what I have bin doing now and I have bin working hard on creation a great design but also one that is great in the hands!
With that we started to go to the first fase and in this we started a Gofundme page, If you guys have time it would be great if you could look at it for now I will place renders within this thread and I wish to invite you to watch the phone and maybe help us get there by either donating or sharing the page! every single bit of help is welcome!
Mod edit: Link removed
It would be a great honor.
What I am doing in Basic is designing the phone and I would also do the commercials, animation and right now also wallpapers.
I worked hard on getting here and I truly hope it can go furder then this and do this as a job!
We will also send when all is furder devices to good reviewers to make the best device we can in design and experience!

Okay, why should I (or anyone) fund you? It looks like the only thing your company has now are some renders. You're throwing around all these high end specs but your company has no experience designing phones. You're in the early stages of development and you're already quoting $549 as the price? You seriously think you can offer a high quality phone with these high end specs? The other major players in the market already have tons of experience, tons of connections. I suggest instead of trying to crowdfund, you try to get actual investors on board. Good luck!
Sorry, but XDA isn't here to help you make money, regardless of the cause.

Hello guys, recently I have joined the community , im very pleased to find a place like this to get as many useful information as possible, thanks to all for that, although I really need some piece of advice from a professional developers around the world, if it is not a place for that I will remove my post asap. Im living in UK at the moment and this year i will apply to university for a computer science degree , which i believe is the best possible option for me. I am constantly improving my english to pass an ielts exam and basically I have almost a year from now on till I start my course, during that time I am willing to develop my skillset to become a part time developer which I see is the best option so far to support myself during my studies in UK (no , I dont want to work as a bartender, I already did that...) . I would like to get an advice from a professional, what kind of industry should i get myself into, in the list below a have some specifications that needs to be checked:
1. Part time work
2. Easiest to get into the industry
3. A year would be enough to get the right skill set.
At the moment im learning web development at udemy.com, currently in the javascript section. I was wondering if I am going the right way to get what I need, because I still have enough time to switch to app development, c# or cloud etc. Which area of work would give me the most when I will be looking for a part time job? I dont need a lot of money, minimum salary of part time is more than enough for me, please give a future student an advice, I would appreciate any kind of information, opinions, cause god damn I am lost at the moment... Thank you for reading this and as I have said before I am constantly improving my english so please do not judge me bad if your see a grammar error or anything else. Thank you so much for your time.

Hi, my name is Jose and I was born when TV was black and white, I built my first computer in 1986 it was a 386 w/ 40 meg of a HD and 512 bts of RAM LOL from then on computers have been a hobby as work and family took over. I do have programming knowledge but I'm not a programmer I know my way around a computer , unfortunately my health has been deteriorating so I simply can not spend as much time as I would like in front of one. Cell phone knowledge is limited but I believe I understand the principles of it : software in a small communication device .I have an Android which is a program that I'm not familiar with but since most programming languages are similar in a basic manner I guess with some help I can fix my phone, I figured. English is not my first language so forgive my grammar. I think I do well on this. I'm home now because of my health so I have time to dwell into this but again can't spend more than 30 or 40 minutes at the time in the computer ( sitting for long time is a painful problem ) I would inmensely appreciate any help from you young guys whom were born into this era or time with so much knowledge at your disposition , believe when I say that coming from Southamerica , we would have love this , having the net and everything it has to offer, the good I mean , the bad ,oh well we can learn to deal with it and go on with life. Greetings from an old dude. I joined the forum because I would like not to have to spend another $1000 in a new cellphone and also I'm stubborn and think that my cell does have a fix and I can find it.
