I bought the Razer Mamba Wireless, in an attempt to switch to a wireless mouse and free up space on my desktop. This mouse is terrible. The first thing I noticed was the battery does not last longer than a day, maybe a day and a half. This results in me having to keep the charging cable nearby, completely voiding the point of having a wireless mouse. I find myself plugging it in to charge it, every time I step away from my computer.
The next problem is the battery and RGB features. In order to see the battery percentage on your mouse, you have to sign up for an account with Razer and install their terrible software. Their software prevents my computer from sleeping properly, so I always have to make sure I close out of it, after checking my battery level. Any RGB features also require an account to be able to control them.
This mouse feels very cheap for the price. It's a $50 mouse, but I spent $100 back when it was new. Feels like it's made out of potato chips. I'm very confident I could crush this mouse in one hand.
I would not recommend this mouse to anyone. You'll find better quality in those little $10 mice they sell for laptops.

The gold standard in mice is the MX Master. Just get that and you don't need to be so fancy.

I personally don't think there is a gold standard at the moment as we're going through a period of time where mouse technology is going through a rebirth lol.
The wired Razer Viper happens to support up to an 8000hz polling rate! All mice before that capped out at 1000hz (or lower)! But with higher display resolutions and refresh rates, even the 1000hz mice are starting to cause some input lag and mouse tracking inaccuracy.
So sure, if you're just using the computer for work this isn't really a big deal. But if you move your mouse around a lot (and quickly- which always happens during gaming), this is a very noticeable problem if you have the right hardware to run into the issue (the right hardware being anything manufactured within the last 4-5 years). So moving forward, this problem will only get worse if the mouse feature development (and Windows USB prioritization) isn't optimized moving forward.
So IMO, any mice with a higher polling rate would be the best type to acquire right now (granted, it'd only be important if you use higher mouse sensitivities, use a 2k resolution display with high refresh rate or play games) as it'll be slightly future-proofed =P.
My favorite is still the Logitech Trackman Marble Trackball Mouse. Ergonomic, fast, good switches, long lived and sits still.
Hardwired is still the best.

I purchased one of those docking stations with additional battery charger off ebay. However, for some reason the unit isn't charging the device when it's docked. Instead it loses power. I waited almost 2 months for them to finally ship the item now this. I was thinking it may be the 1.5ma adapter that came with it. My test this evening will be to plug up the regular charger in the mini usb port and see if that will charge the unit. Is anyone else having this problem? I was trying to cut expense by purchasing this unit instead of the more expensive ones sold on expansys for a little over $100 usd. I even went as far as implementing a 3.5 mm plug for audio (stereo) and this took quite a few hrs to do. Please give some feedback.
I have the same docking station you have. It charges my phone if I turn the backlight down, and dont run any data programs (gps, wifi or anything like that) If I run much of anything it will drain down. I attributed it to the charger cable that comes with it. Let us know how your tests go. I can voice for the xtra battery spot, it charges my spare in less than an hour from empty.

Thanks for the reply bud. I said I'll try the OEM charger in the mini port first, and if that works then I'll buy a higher milli amp charger for it (maybe 3 ma). I did a nice little audio mod to it as I discussed and I'll take pictures later when I get in. I really like the unit and the great thing about my audio mod is that it doesn't broadcast my calls over my A/V receiver, it goes directly to my BT headset (conversations stay private), and once I hang up the audio goes back to the A/V receiver, so I can continue listening to my music. The mod only cost me about $3 USD for the necessary parts and some soldering and drilling.
Here are the pics of the mod I did. The Audio works fantastic. I converted the 3.5mm plug to stereo output and well placed too as the device just slide right onto the docking station without any trouble. Now my next task is to find a 3 ma adapter to use as a charger. For some reason even when I use the OEM charger in the mini usb slot the device charges, but does it very slowly as if it was getting the charge from the computer's USB connection, and the 2nd battery slot doesn't charge at all with this method. If anyone would like internal pics (not that they would help much as I've soldered and hot glued all the wires in the device for stability) I will be more than happy to upload some.
charging with cradle
Had the same problem before so I just plug both chargers into the unit. (Athena and cradle adaptor) It now charges abeit slowly with wifi and screen at middle illumination but fast if I turn the screen off( 20% to 100% in 2.5 hrs.). avoid plugging anything else to the usb or any ports while charging. It will grain your battery even if you are not using them.
Can you take a picture of the internal part of the cradle? The part where you installed the audio jack and rca sockets. This is where I am having problems. I find the space too small to install those you installed. Maybe you could give me an idea how to install the same in my cradle.
Another thing, do you think it is possible to put in another USB slot and/or a memory card slot? I'm going to the province(the provincial life here is like 1980's there in the US except for mobile phones and a few computers with limited internet access) and I don't want to carry arround so many gadgets and attachments with me. I have 2 4G usb drives, 16G cf and a 2G mini sd. I keep my file both for business and pleasure outside of my athena for safety. As much as possible, I don't want to attach an external usb hub as it drains my battery. I would rather have an internal hub and changing the led to something smaller to consume less power but integrate them to the cradle.
As much as I want to bring my laptop to the province, the size of my ibm x40 is still to big and heavy for me to carry constantly everywhere.

I will upload some pics in a bit. I thought about putting in a 2nd USB slot, however now that you've mentioned the internal USB hub, you gave me a new task for tomorrow. I will go to Rat shack and try to find the smallest hub they have and take it apart and somehow get that bad boy to fit into the cradle. If you've researched any that's pretty small post the link and I'll take a look at it. Give me about 30 mins to upload some pics as I have to take the unit apart and stuff. Oh btw I had to strip the 3.5mm down to the bare metal from a cheap headset I had laying around.
The yellow plastic piece is where the stereo adapter is located. I had to shave down a piece of plastic on the insde that was kinda blocking the space. I also made sure that the unit was able to close properly. As you can see in the pictures there's no other wires for the unit to short out on and everything's secured properly with the hot glue, and some soldering.
Is the audio not availble via the usb plug? I was led to belive the usb to 3.5mm headphone adaptors work with the ameo? If this is correct and all the pins have connectors then the audio should be availble without adding a 3rd plug.
The genuine htc cradle does have audio out but looks like it only has 2 plugs so it must be possible?
I have just got a 2nd dock station from ebay to try and make my own 4 in 1 plug for charging, tv out, and hdd connection for the car. Does any one have the mini usb headphone adaptor and the ability to test for continuity between the headphone socket and the usb plug?
regards

Those 3 in 1 adapters do work, however I did the mod to eleminate the need to carry around any extra hardware. I used the 3 in 1 adapter in the usb slot from T-mobile wing phone and it worked just fine. It has the 3.5mm slot, and 2 mini usb slots. But again I did it this way to eleminate the need for that. I'm currently in the process of finding a small USB hub that I can strip down from it's housing and fit it inside the docking station. I already located a 3ma adapter with variable voltage settings. This should be good enough to run all the components and charge the batteries at the same time. Let me know how your mod goes or if you need some ideas.
I was considering this: http://www.upgradenation.com/Tripp_Lite_The_ultra_small_4-port/U222-004-R/partinfo-id-551698.html USB hub to implement into the docking station. Let me know what you guys think, I will check the size when I get home to see if it will fit. I drew it to scale on a piece of paper just to make sure before I order it. Now keep in mind that I will be taking it out it's housing to get it to fit inside the unit, hence eleminating the extra load. Oh btw problem solved with the charging. Feedbacks please.

I got in late yesterday, and wasn't able to check the size against the cradle. I see you have slots for a flash card reader on yours, the question now is, have you found a spot to fit all that in there? The size of the one I saw looks like it would work, but it doesn't have the card readers in it. I think that would be very ideal to have in there too. Let me see pics of the final product, if you can get it to fit, if you can't no biggy i'll just do without the card reader in it.

What was the solution for charging? Have you talked with the folks at gpsforless or HTC to see if they could fix there design, by using the designs that you have developed so far? Or are you interested in making a couple extra docking stations for a fee? Sometimes we have more time than money and other times we are starved for time... Lately, I have been starved of time...
Thanks for taking the time to develop a solution that I have been dreaming about, while on the road traveling, ect...
Part of the work around that I was using was BT audio recievers, they have been a great work around, but also have some limitations as well...
I look forward to hearing and seeing good things from you in the future

Have you gotten any of the hubs to allow for you to power and recharge the device or spare battery via USB?
the usb hub works but it literally drains my battery so much that i prefer not to use it anymore.
I everyone,
I'm getting a problem in my Kaiser phone when i'm trying to use internet connection.
After i turns on the wifi or 3G connection, i takes 1 minute to my phone turns off.
Then, to turn it on again, i need to connect it to a cable charger.
The battery apparently is good (90% +/-)...so i cant understand what it is happening.
Sometimes, when i making a call, it turns off too at the end or at the middle of the conversation.
There's anyone who have this problem too? Or similar?
Thanks
Sounds like battery as shutting down when increasing the amont of juice usage mA.
yep. battery protection circuits. had same issue with a month old - new battery
Thats what i thought! Thanks to both.
My kaiser have same problem too. I was looking for new battery, but I am not sure which one to chose ... the big one with new back or original?

the big one seems to have the same electronics as the classic size one, which make it not work as it should. You'll have slightly more power with it, but not so much as you would expect from it's specification.
classic size - original would be expensive
fakes are ok, but tends to break. capacity is fine on them. I would buy 3 pcs of fakes. they are like $3 and at least one will make it.
I've got 3 fakes, (in 3 diffderent phones) after 2 months two working good, on the third current sensor got crazy and start shutting it off on wifi or call.
But this would too indicate that there IS current sensor what is a little surprise, as before they didn't have this protection. (just thermo or none)
and get an external batt charger too. I have two of these, works fine:

Thanks! I was thinking abut that, i think i'll go for the biggest mAh (for the original size) and use the external battery charger (maybe the one with docking station for phone).
And I'll use this dead battery only for NAVIGATION (in car with the original HTC car charger)
I haven't used it much yet. It's still charging.
The box it came in was very cool. It sort of has a magnetically secured breach that snaps open, and the nook just slides out.
When I first saw the corner loop, and I thought it was ugly. I didn't understand why they would give it a loop. Then, I attached a lanyard to the loop so that I can put my head or hand through it and protect it from falls. The corner loop seems genius to me now.
It feels very solid and surprisingly hefty. The screen is fantastic.
My wife got me the anti-glare screen, which I had trouble putting on. I don't have any bubbles; but I managed to trap dirt or lint under it, so I have specks in a few places. I heard BN will install them for free. Do you think the BN person can remove, clean, and re-install the protector for me? Is it even possible to clean it or do I have to use another?
I had a BN epub that I bought for my nook classic, and it appeared on my new nook as soon as I registered. I opened it and flipped through it. Seems very responsive. However, the screen is too bright even on the dimmest setting, and the background color on night mode is a little too light. I hope they have an update that will gives us customizable colors, so I can set the bg to black, and the text to a medium grey.
The thing I was really looking forward to (the thing nook classic can't do all that well) is PDFs. I was pleased with the way it renders and performs with side-loaded PDFs. It's very usable. On the negative side, I wish that I could set bookmarks, annotate, and change the color scheme.
Also, the cord that came with it seems to be required to charge the nook. At first, I tried a regular microUSB cord I had, and the nook didn't seem to recognize that it was plugged in even though I was using the NC charger. Then I used the cord that came with it, and it appears as though the charge indicator is built into the cable itself. I don't remember reading anything about this; so it's a surprise that I can't use any cable to charge the device.
In portrait mode, the browser is annoying. In landscape, it's pretty decent.
I also got the Industriel Easel case. I'm not sure I like it. It's cool that it protects the screen, and it will also prop it up in portrait or landscape. But it's too heavy. The heavy NC plus a heavy case make it too heavy to read without support. And it's a little awkward to hold in landscape. I'm still not sure if I want to take it back or not. I like the way it looks, and I can always take the nook out of it.
I'm aware of XDA because I run a custom ROM (thanks NRG) on my HTC winmo phone. And I came to this forum thinking I could do something similar on the nook. But what I see is rooting; which I'm not totally familiar with. I read the instructions, and they seem more complicated that flashing my phone. I'm concerned about OTA updates bricking my NC.
My questions:
Is rooting just about installing games? Would it address any of my problems? (custom colors for epubs and PDFs, PDF annotations and bookmarks) Is the droidx keyboard and/or the DolphinHD browser so much better than the stock keyboard and browser that it's worth the trouble? (by trouble, I mean rooting, and then dealing with things not working, random resets, etc...)
Also, if android 2.2 is coming out for the nook in January; should I wait to root until then?
You can install other readers for pdfs and books for example, e.g. kindle app, which could solve the things you mentioned. New launcher, browser and market improves the nc a lot. I think most people don't get the reboot, or similar/any, issues.

1) In my case, the rooting was about unlocking the full functionality of the tablet. Yes, games are part of that, but it does open up to everything else too (better media players, you tube, and market)
2) Is the browser worth it? YES. again, YES. The stock browser is horrible - Dolphin on this device really shows how capable it is, and with the better pinch to zoom, makes the pages easier to view. The DX keyboard isn't a huge increase, but the gingerbread keyboard is worth it for sure (it is one of few keyboards that doesn't fill the screen with the text box in landscape mode)
3) Trouble? Rooting was no problem, and the random reboots (yes, i have had a few myself) are harmless - they don't happen during use. As for 2.2 - there is still some question on if it really is coming out in Jan, so i would say go for it. Besides, we can unroot and go back to stock, meaning you could get the upgrade anyway.
I also just got my NC for Christmas, and I'm really interested a pdf reader that will allow highlighting and annotation. I haven't rooted yet, but plan to when I get some time, perhaps this evening.

it does charge using normal usb calbe. look at the usb specs. they don't allow enough power. this device charges usig 1000mA which is far more than the specs allow for.
but it will charge at 500mA, just VERY VERY slowly.

I tried to use a regular cable with the charger that came with it (which is rated at 1900mA!), and the nook didn't seem to recognize that it was plugged in. I use this same cable with the Nook Classic, so I know it's not the cable.
It is charging, just slowly, and with no indicator tell you it's charging. It should take about four times as long to charge via USB port, as compared to the high-current B&N charger.

This doesn't make any sense. I've said a couple of times that i was using the charger that came with it. Using a standard microusb cable, the nook doesn't appear to be charging. I would expect to see the battery icon on the notify-bar to be flashing the way it does with the special cable.

Think of the charging indicator as a "fast charging" indicator. B&N forgot to include a "slowly charging" indicator.
If you really don't believe that it actually does charge that way, unplug it and run the battery completely dead. Then plug it in to a USB port with a standard USB cable (NOT the B&N charger and cable) and wait. Come back in four hours and unplug it. Try to turn it on. If the battery is half way charged, it can charge from a USB port. If the battery is still dead, don't lose your B&N charger. You're gonna need it.
So, i got mine rooted last night. Couldn't have been easier. Customized it with some apps from the market as well. Still looking for a good reader that will allow highlighting and annotating pets that are sideloaded. I'd even pay for something like the full version of quickoffice. Anybody messed with that on the nc?

What did you do to get the Gingerbread keyboard to work. I have autonootered with the 12/25/2010 version, and when I select the Gingerbread keyboard, no keyboard shows up. Going back IME keyboard works fine. I'd like to get that working.

What you guys are saying is that the nook won't "fast" charge with a regular usb cable even if you use the charger it came with. I don't why you guys couldn't just say that without bringing up usb ports. I know the usb port doesn't have enough juice, and i never said i was trying to use it.
And it still sucks that there is a special cable required to fast charge.
sent from my nook color using the xda app
I rooted it, and I was really enjoying it. I had it completely tricked out and going exactly the way I wanted.
Then I tried to open the shop to look for a book to buy, and bam "You nook is resetting due to authorization issues."
ARGH. I had used the shop after rooting, and I had assumed I was one of the ones that wouldn't have this issue. I guess not.

Actually, no that's not at all what I said. What I said (as you quoted it) was simply that there is no charging indication when charging via USB, even though it is slowly charging. That's in response to the dozens (but it feels like hundreds) of people who keep complaining about and/or "confirming" over and over and over and over again that their NC "won't charge" with a regular USB cable simply because they don't see the indicator come on. That's all.
If you understand the USB current limits and how that impacts charging speeds, great. You're ahead of all them.
And yes, needing a proprietary charger+cable to fast charge does suck.
Hi guys,
I wanted to use my NexusS in the car. I have a 3rd party cigarette lighter to USB which I put a mini to micro adapter on.
The phone does two strange things...
Firstly the screen will not go off - it won't time out and if I switch it off it switches itself right back on again.
Secondly, even though it says it is charging the battery life depleted - and fast too. I watched it loose 10% of its charge in around 10 minutes.
Any ideas - is it just a rubbish USB adapter (worked fine with my other phones, most were HTC).
Anyone else seen this - and fixed it?

try a different charger. If issue stops, you've got your answer
Try a name brand (not cheap or generic) cigarette lighter plug that has a USB female on the other end. You could use the supplied usb data cable that came with the phone for charging (that's just about all it's good for). It's a straight cable so it won't be pulling on the phone when it's charging and if you're using it (if the cable is long enough) I hate coiled cables with a passion! Yeah it might be six feet long if you stretch it out but it will always be pulling the phone if you use it while charging.
Some cables aren't wired inside like a standard usb cable is. Lg is notorious for that. Some of their older phones refused to charge if you tried to use a standard usb cable. For a good data cable, that isn't cheap quality, I suggest the sprint usb data cable that the corporate stores sell. It's built good and has a solid connection. A less expensive one is an ultra brand usb to micro usb cable that you can find at compusa. The six foot one is perfect. Yes you can find others online cheaper of course, but as a local solution, you should be able to find these stores. I don't know the quality of any that might be sold at best buy or your cell phone company. Generally from what i've seen, the cell phone stores that have lots of generic accessories, have dummy phones or all their phones in a glass display case are the places that will probably have low quality cables. Some people don't care about stuff like that and some run into problems with flashing or being detected correctly by the computer or the plugs wiggling in the sockets and possibly causing intermittent connections. See where I'm going with this? Imagine you are flashing and halfway through it or at a critical point of data transfer. The plug connections aren't good or solid because they wiggle. The contacts momentarily lose connection and the data stops... Stuff like this is a bricked phone waiting to happen imo. Both Samsung and HTC cables that were supplied with the phones with my past phones seemed like they weren't very good data cables. Some may have never had a problem with these but I have. Times when phones refused to flash or be detected by the host computer, then the problem went away when I used "better" quality cables.
Sorry for my usual rambling when I reply. I like to explain things in a way that a non tech person could begin to understand.
As for your original question, I have experienced this too. Almost always a reboot fixes that problem. A good tool to use for charge and discharge info is a widget called battery monitor widget. I turn the sampling rate faster to like five seconds and the battery capacity to what the battery is actually rated at. The widget always seems to guess the wrong capacity of the battery. You can watch and learn what your phone normally idles at and when something is really sucking a lot of power. On the flip side, it will show you when the battery is trickle or charging it hard. Mine idles at less than ten milliamps and I've seen it charge as much as upper nine hundred milliamps (970's+).
sorry, gotta stop blabbing!
Been a longtime Razer DeathAdder user. The V2 Pro finally went wireless, and frankly I feel like it's the best all round mouse I've used to date, including the very famous Logitech mice from back in the days of early LAN gaming.
While the DA Elite is an absolutely wonderful wired mouse, the DA V2 Pro was the one which finally converted me to wireless. Battery life is superb (its sleep mode helps a lot), though I do turn it off when away from the PC or overnight - easy with the mechanical switch on the underside. The Chroma Razer logo flashes red when it's reached a point where you need to recharge. Micro USB cable is keyed so it obviously only fits into the mouse one way, making life a bit easier. A shame they didn't use USB-C though.
The latency with the Razer transceiver's 2.4 GHz mode is incredibly low, basically undiscernable from wired; the additional Bluetooth capability is useful for pairing temporarily to a work laptop or portable device for some mobile working / gaming / amusement. Cloth covered cable is very nice, and you can charge while using over USB which is pretty seamless when you need to swap.
Biggest downside is that Razer no longer bundle the desk charging cradle with the DA V2 Pro, probably for reasons of cost saving, instead you must buy the Charge Station Chroma for a breathtaking USD 50 / GBP 70! Personally I'd keep that money to put towards beer and snacks unless you're a hardcore Razer cultist.
I have the DA wired mouse. I've never had any good results from a BT or dongle mouse. What I don't like about Razer is Chroma software and it's constant updating without my permission. I'll live with the rotating LED color and I never really see it much with my hand on it all the time.
