I found out about this forum yesterday. I downloaded and installed the Fire Toolbox. I managed to work through the functions to get it more like an Android device. Now I hope to learn a lot more from the experts who are here. My most important reason for joining is to get my Amazon Fire HD 10 tablet to show movies on my TV when we go camping. So far I am hoping there are answers to this problem that will make a lot of people happy.

Hi Forum
I`m just new to the forum, and have been looking at ways to root the AMAZON Kindle fire HD, and to be perfectly honest with all forum members i just dont have a clue on how i can Root it myself. I live in the Glasgow. Scotland.
Could anyone direct me, or know of anyone who could do this for me, as i dont think i have the confidence to go about this myself without bricking it?? I know it may be simple for most of you computer wizards out there, but nightmare for me. I got this 7" Fire HD for my good ladies xmas, and it was not my first choice Tablet, (so i`m stuck with it)
I would like to use MY Tablet for Google apps and ALL things Android without Amazon Using me as a cash cow. Dont get me wrong, Amazon will be okay for some item that i may want, but i dont want to be controlled by them.
If anyone can assist me it would be very much appreciated
Cheers

Hey man well welcome to our community! This forum is full of information on all different types of devices, including the kindle fire HD 7" model. My suggestion to you is do a little more research on this forum. A lot of people on here will just tell you to do the reasearch before posting questions like this because we have all done the same and it is all on this forum. Don't take it the wrong way, it's just are way of saying you might want a little more knowledge on what exactly rooting a kindle means and what comes with it. I can point you in a few directions; Here's some links to look into:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096888 this link is good and I believe they just added an autmoted root to the tool! Also: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552547 this link as you can see is for begginers, like you. It helped me out so much with the language and just about everything! Just remember research, read and read some more and it will not be as confusing! If you need anything else just post back here and I'll see if I can point you in the right direction. Good Luck!:good:

Hey Guys,
i just got a a Kindle Fire HD 7 2013 and was looking around here for roms etc.
I allready found the root thread thats nice. But as I see nobody is working on this device? I am now sure i ready thw whole Forum and didnt found any interessting thing about it. There was one post a few time ago that someone (i dont find the thread) said that Hashcode is working on this device is that truth? Someone has may some infos would be nice. I really hate the FireOS and it would be cool to see may a CM for this.
I am actuelly thinking about to send it back because i dont want this FireOS with all it stuff i dont need and this special offers. If nobody is working on it i going to send in and get my money back (i got it for 70€ that why i "insta" shop it and didnt checked forum before).
One thing more it is really confusing with all this post etc. its hard to see if the post is for the Kindel Fire HD 2012 or 2013 any idea how i can better find posts for the 2013 modell? Most threads are named "Kindel Fire HD 7".
To the end sry for my bad english hope you can understand me
Greetings Abgeloust
Hey!
What we need is time.. actually there are People working on this device. No CM for now, but the plan is to get Google Play fully working (which is already on a good way) and build a rom that is AOSPish-looking.
Someday there will be a CM for this device.. its too low on price to stay unattended.
Actual Development is ongoing in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2544736
Have a look at the last few sites to have an idea whats going on.

Thanks Mate! I going to have a lokk on this.
Hi
I have ordered an Amazon Fire Tablet from Amazon and it should be here soon. Ideally I would like to root it and put CM12.1 on the tablet. Main reason for this is speed/KODI.
I have had a read around the forum and my head is blown! So much information to take in.
Once I get the tablet, I am planning not to connect it to the internet to stop it updating.
If anyone has purchased the tablet from Amazon recently, what version of the software are they shipped with?
Can someone please give me a high level guide of the steps to take?
Apologies for the 1000's of questions, it has been a while since I have done anything like this.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Riyaz_7
My recently ordered tablet shipped with 5.1.1.0. It had a bit of dust behind the screen so I got a replacement which came with 5.3.1.0.
Regarding steps, the general thread is good enough.

Start with forum index and CM 12.1 thread. Pay particular attention to the OP and recent posts. Plan on doing some reading as everything you need has been posted multiple times. Ask specific questions as needed (after doing preliminary homework).
Hi all,
I just purchased 6 cyber monday 7" fire tablets. Think I paid $30/ a pop. I did so with the expectation of modifying them all for my kids. My hope is that I can maximize the hardware purchase by rooting the tablets, but realized, as of this post, that there are no known solutions on OS version 5.4 (which is how they shipped) or 5.6 which is what they update to almost immediately when connected to wifi. Given the price I am confident that a ton of these were purchased and am therefore hopeful that a solution to the rooting dilemma will be found with the large demand out there.
I thought I would post, to create a location for the latest information on rooting the device, and to hear from others out there who may be in the same position. I'd like to find out what others are doing to mitigate the limitations of the Fire OS until a root solution is found (if it is even possible...as I have little knowledge in the field of hacking). For me personally, I find the biggest drawback is not being able to connect (fully) to Chrome. The main perks for me being gmail, calendar, all bookmarks. I think I could live with the cumbersome Fire interface if I could access Chrome. Conversely, I think these tablets will eventually become paperweights if I can't make them more Android like.
I have been using it to video stream and watch MP4's while in bed, with an external bose bluetooth speaker of course (the onboard speaker is a dog). I also am using it as my main kindle reader, replacing a Kindle 3 wifi that recently blew its screen. I will have to get more out of it if my children, who are android phone and chromebook users, are to find it useful.
Let's hear what others are doing and if anyone has gotten wind of solutions being worked on.

I accept the rules of the forum but do have the same questions, reading since hours and do not have a final glue as well.
This might be a good starting point:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/help/help-thread-7th-gen-2017ask-question-t3636919
There are hundreds of threads mixed different kind of devices 7'' 8'' 10'' GEN5 ,6,7...
For a beginner with the device this is a quite confusing situation, so if some one has a hint or link where to start to read - all help is very welcomed.

Sounds like you scored an early build 5th gen device (likely 18-24 months old). Not many of those pups around!
No need to root or even boot up FireOS v5. You can launch TWRP directly from fastboot and immediately install the custom ROM of your choosing (likely Fire Nexus or Lineage 12.1).
so how do i launch twrp? and I can choose ANY rom?

Best take note of post date when quoting another member. In this case the post was nearly a year old.
Thread closed - course run.
Reposting per recommendation from another thread on XDA. Sorry for posting in the wrong location!

Hey guys, I'm brand new to some of this stuff so please bear with me. I've tried hunting all over the internet for help and at this point XDA is my last hope.
I've got a Kindle Fire 7 (5th Gen) that I previously used for reading books and whatnot. It's gotten so slow to the point it's intolerable and even on factory reset it's lagging pretty bad. I've wanted to try to remove the Fire OS from it for some time but never really could figure it out and today when I did try to do so I ran across some problems. I'm at the point where I really don't know what I'm doing and I don't want to brick it.
My version, according to the tablet, is Fire OS 5.3.6.4. I'd really like to get this thing converted over but I'm seeing that in some cases this device cannot be rooted because it cannot be downgraded. I'd like to hear it directly from the professionals that do this stuff in their daily lives.
So, I suppose in summary, is it even remotely possible for me to get this thing over to some kind of standard Android? If so, how do I do it? You're really going to have to break it down for me because I don't know anything about Flash Fire and some of these mods I'm seeing. I do computers, not tablets. Lol.
Thank you so so much!

This is the procedure you'll need to follow. Not for the faint of heart; involves opening the device and running software you likely have no familiarity with. I suggest you consider a $64 USD Onn tablet from Walmart that runs the latest version of Android right out of box. Good luck, mate.
