Hello all.
I got stuck with the 128g model s21 ultra because they had no stock of any of the other sizes with tmo. Of course, now my trial period is up, they have the 256 in stock. -.-
Anyway. I purchased a T7 drive to use as supplemental storage since there are no options out there for SD cases for this phone.
Problem is, my note 10+, I miss it already, was able to pick the drive up and read it in the Gallery app. I was able to peruse the photos and vids on the t7 with no issue. The s21 gallery app refuses to acknowledge the drive exists.
Is there a gallery app that can be set to read usb storage as well? Or am I stuck with having to use the lackluster files app?
Thanks

What filesystem are you using on the T7?
To answer properly. I just formated the T7 drive using my phone. PC states it as exfat.
@gravija
You don't need OTG file mgr for T7. I use regular USB-C cable w/my S21U and as soon as I connect it to unlocked phone it shows that small 'read only partition'(pic1) then after unlocking T7 (w/fingerprint) it shows actual files on the drive (pi2>pic3).
You can also see the T7 in Device Care under Storage > 3 dots> Advanced > Storage(on the bottom)
All this is pretty much straightforward, firstly I would check everything on PC, make sure you have you password and fingerprint set and verify that you can access the drive on PC.
One more important thing, make sure you always unmount the T7 after using it w/ PC or phone.

Ouch. No way I trade my 10+ for something with less storage. Flash sticks are awkward... maybe use cloud storage. Not something I normally recommend... however.
Nexus photo viewer could help.
Instructables has a basic guide to make a phone case with an OTG connection and SD Card built-in. May the case manufacturers are missing a niche market here?

I had no choice. My phone was almost completely unuseable with all the failed phone calls, both incoming and outgoing. Then the fact I could not get text messages to go out all the time. Tmo absolutely refused to replace my phone with the same model, saying the same problem will just continue. They also claimed they could not get the 5g variant of the 10+.

I got my t7 to show up now too. I had to format it using the formwat option and not use the samsung app. BUT, my main issue now if that the drive does not integrate into the OS at all. Seems to be all devices recently. I was looking to not have to use different apps, video players, file browsers... All just to view or edit the files between both internal storage and the t7 drive I am using.
Basically. I would like to find a single gallery that can see both my internal storage and external storage at the same time. As it stands now, I have to have a file browser to browse the T7 and then I need to use a different Gallery app and different Video app just to browse the files. In tune, I need to to have a Gallery for my internal storage, a video player, music player, photo viewer, and a browser just for the external drive.
Hook up yer t7 and browse to a video, try to play it from the t7 using the video player. The samsung video player will give you an error. Same with opening a photo and or music file. They will only work once transfered to internal storage.

The 4G variant streams movies fine. It's probably the more desirable variant because it uses the Snapdragon* chipset and doesn't suffer excessive battery consumption that the first generation 5G phones were notorious for.
The 21U is apparently suffering display blackout issues in some phones of this model. There's at least one thread on XDA about it. Samsung is being less than transparent about it.
*I may be mistaken but I think all the Snapdragon variants are 4G.

Yeah. Tmobile straight up lied about the availability of the 4g models. As I called sprint after the fact to have them fix my voicemail, which TMobile said there was nothing they could do to fix it on their end. (Sprint tech had it fixed in 10 minutes mind you.) Anywho. I had no issues with my note 10+ until I got on the Tmobile sim card. A sprint tower in my area went offline and I no longer had reliable service. Im a medical case and need to have a a phone for emergency calls. (No house phone.) Uhm sorry I am off topic.
Yeah. My s21 was not new. It is a remanufacted phone that was previously sent in for BSoD. It was cheaper than the new one monthly and I still got a sign on deal with it. I have to give Tmo credit for helping me there... But I also see it as them just doing retention work. If the phone fails again for black screen, like my friend, who is on his third s21+, I am going to ask for a different phone. This phone is nice, but not worth it over my note 10+. I am sick of this limited storage already. Having to keep an extra battery, carry around my portable storage and cable. The thing overheats constantly. I am also still having problems with RCS and text messages not working.
Now, in doing research into this recently I am finding out Google is apparently dropping support for apks now?

Well I use T7 as convenient way to transfer/piggyback/store files between S21U and desktop, the encryption is protected by the fingerprint sensor so, according to Samsung your files on T7 are encrypted and safe. When I plug it into pc or phone the fingerprint sensor lights up and to open the storage you have to match the enabled fingerprint. All that works fine as OTG storage but I also have Pixel phone and I can't use T7 with it because of different sf and that sucks, can't have the T7 OTG convenience to extract any files from Pixel w/o re-formatting each time the drive between fat32 and ntfs.

I had a wifi only Tab before so I'm not unfamiliar with Tab devices. Or so I thought. I bought a Sprint Tab off Woot recently. I sold the Wifi Tab on ebay and basically traded up for better hardware at no cost.
Anyway, the Tab from Sprint came in today and I find I have two questions.
1. This Tab appears to have no internal memory. When I go to settings for the SD card, it only sees my external card. That's also all that maps on my computer. The Wifi Tab had either 8 or 16 gb internal plus and external card. Is this normal?
2. I was under the impression that I was going to have to activate this thing with Sprint for at least a month. That doesn't appear to be the case though. It does gripe at me to activate, but doesn't seem to be forcing me to do so and even without being activated has pulled down at least two OTA updates. Is this normal?

Your internal memory is not an sd card. It isn't listed in that section.

Pulling down the updates occurs over wifi, it will happen regardless of CDMA service.
If you want to get rid of the hassles:
First root, use superoneclick, its the easiest method.
Then use a program such as root uninstaller to uninstall sprintadroidextension.apk (you can also freeze it, allegedly).
Once you do this, be aware that if Sprint updates it won't download properly and start harassing you about that instead (albeit less frequently). The only solutions are to reflash back to stock and then update, or modify your build.prop file to change the build id (I used remount and notepad to do it).

No, I got the OTA's before rooting. I turned it on and one was there. It rebooted and another was there right away.
Well I guess I'll find out when I get home if it loses root, which I assume can be restored again... rather, I hope :]
I guess next for me is recovery... seems like the UnLocker page has a nice write up, but I seen mixed reviews on Sprint tabs. I always have a certain degree of comfort when I'm able to backup/recover.
You given that any thought yet? Or you keeping it stock?
Honestly, the only reason I root is because of backup. I like being able to get a core level backup with Titanium and I like being able to restore all of my apps plus all their data on a new device. I've rooted every tablet I've owned (all three of them) but never tried to flash a new ROM or even considered it.

I received my OnePlus 3T today in the afternoon. So far I'm pretty impressed by the device. It's definitely a killer deal for 400-ish euros..
As the title says, I need to copy some 20 Gb-ish data (photos from the last 3 smartphones, voice recordings etc.) to the 3T. Since it doesn't have a SD card slot, the only way i know is to copy the data through a USB cable, with the smartphone turned on and set in MTP mode.
But the speed in MTP mode is pretty slow... Will need about 2-3 hours for those photos.
Can anyone suggest a better way to accomplish this "simple" task?

If nothing else, set it off before you go to sleep. The thing I noticed as being pretty fast (or the fastest) is to a) make sure to compress anything you can out of those photo's unless their particular format is already too highly compressed and zip em together, b) if you have a USB<->OTG adapter or cable and a 32 G or so USB stick, use that in conjunction with some file explorer app (like root explorer) and just do the copy. Read speeds from OTG are good, and write speeds to the filesystem aboard the OP are good, so you're headed in the best direction.
If you don't have those few things (otg cable or adapter and a stick), then you could get them from Amazon or anywhere for about 10 -> 20 bucks.
If you don't want to futz with the cables, then just use adb to push the files to your target. Most protocols seem faster than MTP to me. Good luck.
Airdroid could do it using your wireless network.
I sent most my files over WiFi using send anywhere, which is only capped by your local routers maximum output. In my case 1300AC.

I thought as much about fastboot. But since the files will be in tens of different folders and I don't know if fastboot can push multiple files / whole folders. Searched online but found nothing.
Maybe I'll just put it there while working on the setup.

Thanks for mentioning that. I really like that app. I just tried it and both ways, (OP to PC and PC -> OP) seemed pretty amazingly quick for WIFI). The Portal one is fine for the one direction, but I don't see the other way (to PC).
best fastest way to copy huge amount of data to op3t
filezilla on pc & wifi transfer app on phone at the very least 1 gig a minute
I used ADB to copy about 25GB of data. Did not compare speed difference between Wi-Fi though (transferred ~10GB of data). MTP has been a pain in the ass, so I have stopped using it.

Use direct cable method. That's why Samsung included the USB-A to USB-C adapter.
Plug your stock Micro-USB cable into your old phone and put the USB-A to USB-C adapter on the other end and plug it into your Note.
Much faster and works every time.

Google associates a lot of the info to the device. Transferring it from device to device has always been a pain point for me.

Oh, nice.
Unfortunately I am on Verizon and they decided that Samsung Cloud is not good for me. lol
I am having the exact same problem on T-Mobile. I start setup and get to where it asks if you want to restore from the last device the account, I choose my Note 4 that I have been using and it goes to a blank screen and at that point all you can do is restart. Spoke to both T-Mobile (had no clue what issue is) and Samsung and they had me do factory reset which did not help. So I bypassed and used Smart Switch but it did not restore some things that the Google restore does. Will see if I can find a solution otherwise the phone will go back.
Same problem with my AT&T note 8. After 4-5 tries, I decided to manually restore the the apps. The texts and call data was stored on AT&T cloud. I was coming from LG V20
I ran into the same problem, But I had an old backup saved. So I don't know if that affected anything. so I guess when my screen protector drys I will try it again.
Isn't it a part of Android OS that causes the while screen? I am thinking it's more of a bug on Google's part that sees something in that profile and causes the while/black screen?
A new S10 is arriving in a few days to replace my S9 which I'm trading in. I have to migrate everything on the S9 to the S10. Is the Samsung Smart Switch app the best way to do that? And is there any way to migrate MMS content such as photos and video? I was told that smart switch will not do that. I created a Smart Switch backup on the MicroSD card in the phone. I'm assuming that I can simply put that same microSD card into the new S10 to complete the migration process using Smart Switch. Should that be done before or after activating the phone.? Beyond that I'm just interested in any advice or guidance (or horror stories) that anyone can offer on migrating an S9 to an S10, and/or more generally migrating one Android phone to a new replacement phone.
TIA
I migrated all my stuff in the internal storage on my LG V30 to the S10 using the Smart Switch. I was surprised just how easy it was. The rest of my stuff was in an SD card so I left that alone. You just lay your phone on top of the new one for a few minutes. As far as the MMS content, it all seemed to transferred over just fine. I still see old photos shared in some of the texts.

Did too. But SmartSwitch can't transfer app data. Helium also doesn't transfer all apps data.
I wish there was an app that could transfer the apps with their data. Root is still not available and TB is a miss...
I'm trying to prep for an S10 that is on it's way, migrating data from a Sony Xperia XZ2. Tried to use the "backup to an external SD card" available from Smart Switch, but it constantly crashes the phone when backing up. And I mean causes the phone to reboot.
Sony's Xperia Transfer on the other hand backs up just fine in a similar manner. Not sure what the heck Smart Switch is trying to do that does this. I'm hoping that using the USB method from Smart Switch works OK as I don't know if Sony's Xperia Transfer will work on the Samsung.
I ended up using smart switch but I lost some app data. Hopefully I can titanium back up them in, in the future.
Hi, I really hate to make a new thread, but I just cannot get this darn thing to connect to my PC. I had a G900A (S5) for over 4 years, rooted w/custom rom. I had/have a G935F rooted with SMan custom rom on Android 8. They both work fine (well S5 died a bit ago...LOL). I downloaded the newest Samsung USB driver, which installed fine and the G935F still works. I tried it both on my W7 Pro desktop and W10 Home laptop.
But this damn S20 will absolutely not connect (using same cables on both, except of course the S20 uses USB-C). This THING is on Android 11 (sucks to holy hell). I enabled the Developers Option and enabled USB Debugging and then changed the USB Default config from Charge Only to "Transferring files" and still NOTHING (of course I can say that it Does charge).
I have looked Everywhere. Called useless T-Mobile and they did not know. I got it on Friday and going to the store Monday. Can anyone solve this and save me a trip or do you think something is wrong with the hardware (it's brand new out of the box)?
THANKS!
does windows recognise that a phone is plugged in or not. use the original cable if you're not and swap which USB ports you try on the PC/laptop.
there is supposed to be an issue where MTP screws up large file transfers but it still recognises the phone.

Was it v1.7.43 and did you remove 'any' old driver versions before installing -
- https://developer.samsung.com/mobile/android-usb-driver.html
And when plugging in the phone for the first time you may have gotten a prompt to allow access, if different/more annoying under Android 11 afaik.
And on a different but Android 11 front, can I ask what bits sucked or were different to 10 for you on this device?

Hey, did you mean to quote without replying..?
Hi, I said I installed the newest (that is the version) and did it before I even got the phone and my 935F worked fine. But no, I did not uninstall the old one. It knew it was there and it did it. I have updated the driver the same way in the past and both the 900A and 935F always worked.
Also I think I said what versions I had on both phones, which were android 4 + 5 on the 900A and 7 + 8 on the 935F.
It NEVER asked me Anything Anytime I plugged it in.
I could actually live with this phone (made so cheap, by the way), if I could just get into it and complete putting my files on it. Also THIS phone is draining battery a bit Because I can't root it to get rid of whatever bloatware crap is on it (any suggestions on that?).
Plus I don't like all the crazy crap it displays and does. ALSO, CAN THEY KEEP MAKING THE CLEAR BUTTON EVEN SMALLER???
Attached is a pic of my beloved S5 BEFORE GOOGLEY SCREWED UP ANDROID, THAT THEY CREATED TO BEGIN WITH...Grrrrrrrrrrr...THOSE WERE THE GOOD OLE DAYS OF REAL ANDROID...LOL.
Thanks anyway for the reply!
PS, sorry I been away from the forum for a while. Things are a bit different now! Sorry, b1k3rdude!

Hi, I did try the same "extension" cables and ports that I used for the 935F, but I had a USB-C laying around for my bluetooth and used that and never thought to use the original cable that came with the box (still in the box). It Never recognized the phone ever. I will try that...If it works I am going to bang my head against the wall because I spent hours trying it and researching it and even uploaded certain files to my google drive just to get them to the new phone (I Was Determined)!!!
I will try it and edit this with the results. Thanks!!!
Son of a B*tch, that worked! The cable that came with the BT did not work, but the original one did right away. I did not know that it installs separate drivers for different phones! It installed all the drivers and the phone asked for permission and Voila! Even worked with my old USB extension cable. I never would have thought of that.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! See, when I got up I went to look to see if anyone answered before I even took my pills and etc...Now back to all the disastrous news. I am a H Andrew "victim" and feel bad for the people of LA, and of course what happened in Afghanistan. So off to the News...
Also may I ask what is so special about the cable that came with the phone as opposed to the one I used from my BT??? Thanks!
So on another note, any tips on how to get around all the crap of UNROOTED Android 11?
Also, do any of these rooting threads really work on this US version of the phone? For sure this darn BL is locked. I did find a procedure to tell. A bit complicated (for me), but now that I can get into the phone, I can surely try.
Also I miss my Viper for great sound. Anyone know how to replace it with something if I can't get this rooted? AND WHERE THE HELL IS THE HEADPHONE JACK??? LOL. Plus, do you know how long it took me to figure out how to just get a screenshot on this THING??? JEEZ!
We switched to T-Mobile from ATT and this phone cost me Only $99 over 24 months + $49 tax, while the other 3 on the family plan got their usual rotten apple (I-12's) for free plus tax. I Refuse to get one, but I am an old time programmer and can't see my way to a rotten apple...yet...LOL
Thanks, Sam in FL
Also, I must say that this 5G here actually works in spots (not in my condo though). I got over 500 Down and 49 Up near me, then got depressed when it did not do that in my condo, but I got wifi anyway and who really needs that much down anyway???
Samsung's cables designed for data transfer and flashing are not the same as off the shelf data transfer cables (unless it's made by a decent manufacturer like Anker).
for getting rid of the crap apps, look up ADB debloat threads for Samsung phones, the newer the better, one close enough like S20 or S21 will do.

There are some S20FE specific ones in this S20FE section.
