Question Broken FPS? - Xiaomi Mi 11

Hey,
so a few days ago, I've downloaded some app and ever since thing something strange happened - my WiFi wouldn't turn on.
Everything else did work - my fingerprint sensor among them.
So I've tried resetting my phone - didn't work.
I tried to flash xiaomi.eu rom - didn't work.
I tried to flash chinese rom - didn't work.
Eventually I was back to the original 12.0.9 global rom and it worked.
In all mentioned roms and this one too, my fingerprint wouldn't work anymore. If I tried to add fingerprint it would just fail with "could not add fingerprint, try again".
Once I added a a lock to my screen, in a short time(an hour at most), my phone would just get stuck, restart itself and then my WiFi stopped working again.
Once I removed the lock, my WiFi worked again after a few restarts.
I also noticed in CIT that I get "CALI test result: false" for the Fingerprint sensor check.
My guess is that if there's a lock, it tests security in some kind of cronjob and the FPS throws an exception and so the WiFi can't turn on.
Anyone has an idea what might work this out?
By the way, I have root with magisk and TWRP if it helps.
Thanks

UPDATE: it randomly rebooted and now the WiFi doesn't turn on again even though it has no screen lock..

Another update: so the first time it happened to me was after I installed power shade(and then every time I installed it). Now it happened after I installed notifix which also handle notifications. I did countless restarts and nothing helped. Then I uninstalled notifix, rebooted and WiFi is back to work.
Like magic. I really don't get why would it happen. . .
Any thoughts?

That's not software issue.
Seems like your WiFi chip burned.
This problem happen more frequently in China version of Mi 11.
Go return it back to the manufacturer and they will replace you a new one.
Because the excessive heat generation of Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 will cause the soldering failure at the bottom of the chip, thus losing the function of the WiFi chip.(or other random function. Like in yours case, it's fingerprint.)

Really? Even though wifi does work when I don't do certain things?

I am less certain now. If you can reproduce it or fix it with certain software install and uninstall. Will you use your Mi 11 to play some 3D games?
Because that's how my Mi 11 died. It sudden black screen when I played Honkai3rd, and phone's WiFi is gone after I turn it back on.

Well, as I wrote it suddenly wifi stopped working again. Why would it work only sometimes? Could it be something else that burned?
I mean, currently, the only constant here is that the fps never works..

I think that things happen because of poor contact just like you keep plugging/unplugging it.
Soc chips has many contacts. More random function dead is possible when there is multiple solder joint failure.

But wouldn't bluetooth fail as well if the chip was burnt?

So, after my wifi turned off once again, I searched for anything I can do to fix it.. Then I decided to copy my current MIUI persist.img to phone, then booted up TWRP & ran in "adb shell" using my PC: "dd if=/dev/block/by-name/persist of=/sdcard/persist.img". It fixed the WiFi back to work!
I wanted to flash xiaomi.eu instead of this lousy ROM, however I worry that it might not work and I'll have to reset my phone again..
I didn't get the FPS to work though..
EDIT:
Now I see I actually did the opposite & copied the persist partition from my phone to this file instead of doing the opposite... So everything is random and life is meaningless. JK, anyway I have no idea what is the pattern of the WiFi to work or not to work.
Meanwhile, I locked my screen again to check if it happens again.. Will update

Anyway, my phone turned off and won't turn on again.. Tried to charge it all night and nothing happens, tried to connect it to my PC, still nothing. Back to my Samsung S10..
Never again Xiaomi...

[Q] Galaxy Note not waking up?

I can't put my finger on this issue I've been having with my Note.
Don't get me wrong, this device is a godsend!
The problem I've been having is that sometimes when I take my Note out of my pocket and try to press the unlock or menu button it doesn't show anything on the screen. I've read about people having issues with delay before it pops up, but it doesn't pop up even after 10 seconds or a minute, it feels like the device 'hangs' or doesn't want to wake up. The only way I can turn the phone on again is by pressing the unlock button for like 10 seconds and the phone reboots.
I thought it was a problem with Green Power, I thought it maybe had issues turning off the wifi or data when the screen was locked and that the service would cause the OS to crash or 'hang'. When I look at my battery history after the reboot it shows that I lost a significant amount of battery (5-15%, depending on how long it took for me to 'discover' the crash) and there's a 'jump' in the graph.
Things I've tried:
Stock rom - problem persists
Different kernels - tried all the kernels available in the market including stock, problem persists
Add a bit of paper between back-cover and battery (to make sure it doesn't lose contact)
Checked if there was dust between battery connections
Tried different sim card
Tried disabling wifi and data all day (mysteriously persists)
DIfferent governors (ondemand and interactive) (the phone reverts to default governor after the forced reboot, normal? i have my phone set to interactive on boot, but somehow it skips that after the forced reboot)
I've attached a picture of the battery graph. According to the stats there's a 25 minute gap where the phone was 'stuck' and you can see that the screen was on and active for that duration.
There are NO funny apps running in the background, this is is a clean install with some standard Samsung apps frozen.
tl;dr version: phone randomly won't wake up; battery loss after forced reboot;
I might have found the issue myself. Now when I come to think of it, I think it always occurs after I've been in my car for like a 30 min drive... Maybe the phone is having trouble switching networks? Anyone know what might be causing this?
Or better yet, how can I research this issue? Can I enable some logging somewhere to track this?
I had the note for about 10 days and today, about 1 hour ago it happened to me for the first time. I tried the home button to wake the screen but nothing, tried the power , nothing and holding the power but nothing happened. I had to pull the battery.
I had this problem in the beginning, but no more.
It's one of two things, in my case. Restoring apps (with data) from Titaium backup, or SetCPU or both. Do a factory reset, reinstall apps without data. If using setCPU, disable it for a while to see if it happens again. It's been over a week and the problem is gone.

I was using System Tuner instead of SetCPU to freeze apps and change governor, maybe I've just been using the wrong app? I deleted it just in case. Will see if the problem persists, thanks!
The nasty thing about it is that it seems to happen randomly (but it most likely doesn't) and is pretty rare (happens once every 3 days).
Still, I don't like the fact of not being available for X amount of time, even if it's 30 minutes.
I'm on stock room and unrooted. Like I said first time it's happened.
i've had the GNote since 4 days now , and yesterday same thing happened as the device was in my pocket and i couldnt wake it up at all , battery pull solved it.
im on stock , non rooted
I can't believe that we are the only ones with this issue. Anyone else? OR better yet, how did you resolve it?
Dont know if this is the same issue as the streak had, but with the streak if you kept it your pocket with the screen facing your body this would sometimes happen. Flipping it so that it that the screen doesnt face your body in your pocket solved this issue.

Thanks for your reply. I did some research, and apparently it had to do with static being built up in the screen from wearing it towards your body in your pocket.
This issue was that you couldn't swipe the lockscreen cause the touch screen wouldn't respond. The problem we are having is that the screen won't even turn on and that the system locks up.
Same issue here with my 2 days old Galaxy Note, that's how I found this forum. In my case it went from not waking up occasionally to every time WIFI was ON (I did some experimenting with settings to see which one could be the one causing the problem). But then...occasionally it would not wake up even with WIFI OFF: very annoying. And this is my first Android, so I didn't have any custom anything, pretty much same as out of the box when I got it The only solution was to reset the handset. And definitely has nothing to do with having it in my pocket as I don't carry it in my pocket. Rang Samsung, they told me it was faulty, I returned it. Now I'm concern the next one is going to have screen issues? As so many people complain in this forum? we'll see.
My issues have been resolved after flashing AbyssNote 1.4 and when I stopped using System Tuner. I've started using Voltage Control instead and now I'm not even having problem @ 100Mhz undervolted 50mV from stock.
Same problem with my wife's Gnote, totally stock, just a small handful of apps installed. Happened twice, about a week apart.
She does a lot of travelling, maybe you're right about that. But it happens after she gets home when it's still OK.
Had the same same issue twice in two days and had to do a battery pull, just did a master reset and re -installed the applications manually, so far so go.
YOu guys think its a hardware or a software issue?
Hmm.. Happened to me too about three times in the last two weeks. I am on stock rom but rooted, and running Green Power. Hopefully samsung will fix it in the next updates. Seems like a software bug to me. Maybe not enough juice when in deep sleep?

its the problem of your kernel. try Abyys 1.4 and use XDA Superpower to adjust the CPU-Frequency automatically

It's very well possible that the stock kernel has faulty settings for the CPU. Haven't had the problem again with AbyssNote 1.4 and Voltage Control (even with custom cpu frequencies)
I just got my note today.
Battery in, turnt it on a few mins playing around.... the problem started

at this point we're just guessing, there haven't been any official confirmations of the problem as far as i know.
But if it's so accute that it keeps happening all the time you must have a faulty device.. call samsung ?

[Q]Update to 2.3.4 offcial version - wifi, gps, signal problems

Hello everyone,
So i upgraded my O2X like a month ago... and since then i have had issues with it...
I've upgraded to 2.3.4 from LG official updates... and since my upgrade i've got some serious issue's with my phone..
1. Alot of times i can't send any messages, and i have to retry like 2-4 times before it's working...
2. people can't call me from time to time.... it just hang's up from the person trying to call me...
3. sometimes when talking to somebody, the sound get's all wierd like a scrathing sound with other mixed wierd other sounds... it goes like that for about 5-15 seconds.. Then it stops and and often then i can't her the other person anymore... but sometimes it also goes back to normal..
4. Signal is lost sometimes... the signal bar indicates that their's no phone service.... and then comes back after like 5-15 seconds...
5. wifi aint working anymore... can't use the internet..
6. today i needed to use the gps... but when it finally has found the route i need.. it aint "updating" where im driving..... so i have to close the gps, and then start it again so i can get a update of where the car is located.. its like a "still picture" if you get me...
Please note that i have NOT done any factory reset of the phone after 2.3.4 upgrade... as it cant be true that i need to do such thing everytime an update is launched from LG just to get the phone working....
i dont have anything else installed, like CM or even rooted or anything.. its all stock rom from LG...
Anyone has some ideas or clues of how i can fix these issues?
i have met all of these issues as well. i have to add another issue,"wifi turn off automatically".
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App
have you been able to fix some of the issues abczhou?

Maybe a stupid comment of me , but have you already looked at the wifi-advanced settings? because there you can switch off the "wifi power saving or sleepmode".
You should also check all settings because everything is put back to factory settings..
same freaking issues
What a fail from LG. I bought this phone recently for my wife and I was accusing her being crazy!
I changed all the settigns in wifi for battery effeciency to keept it always on no matter what! wifi keeps disconnecting at times. Even during skype calls and needs to restart wifi(deactivate->activate).
Anyone having a solution for that issues? Otherwise a custom ROM is going to solve this? And if so please propose one for simple use.
It is so FAIL from LG releasing a ROM hat does not work as it should with default values. Android is for users also, not just geeks.

Have you done a 'factory reset' since you updated the device?
You shouldn't lose any stuff on the card, only the applications that were on the phone as such. (But better than sorry to make a backup just in case). Oh of course you will lose contacts unless they are synced with another source as well).
GPS> Make sure you leave the GPS turned on ALL the time. It won't use it unless it has too, and if you start the phone with gps turned off, it won't connect to gps properly. Wifi ? er.. perhaps you need to go into the wifi settings and have a fiddle around with the sleep mode? Or perhaps increase the screen timeout so it doesn't keep disconnecting the wifi so often?
Get a Samsung for sure!!

Signal problem. Update: Info for others with issue and solutions.

After searching extensively on the whole Nexus 6 signal debacle. I've gotten some observations and studies to share and a couple questions.
I recently obtained a Nexus 6, which I already knew had the ! no data connection problem. (I tried to help the previous owner with the issue before, calls/texts would work, but data wouldn't) They were naturally on T-Mobile, so I assume it was related to the project Fi launch. Googling the issue recently states mostly T-Mobile and Sprint users having the issue, so I decided eh can't pass up a good deal! A like-new Nexus 6 for only $70, who can resist? I figured even if I get the no data issue, I can just turn on airplane mode, use as a mini-tab.
Here's where it gets interesting: I use Cricket (which is AT&T of course), popping the sim in results in good signal, LTE, etc as expected. Randomly (sometimes within 2 minutes) instead of the "!" on service problem, it drops to No Service completely. A reboot and it comes back fine, this wouldn't be too much of an issue except it happens EVERY 2-10 minutes. The only way to get it back is a reboot, airplane mode toggle doesn't help.
Which leads into the second part of the conundrum: Airplane mode doesn't help.
I figured I might just keep it in airplane mode and use as a tablet... The phone said no, Was fully charged before going to bed, by morning 17%. In airplane mode no less, which is of course is abnormal. Looking into it, it seems the phone never went into Deep Sleep, which I immediately delved into the cause. At this time I was running CM13 latest nightly, naturally I went for a fresh stock flash... Same issue. I even stock flashed to 5.0.0 and the same issue... Looks like hardware, but the randomness is the confusing part and you'd think if it was hardware a simple reboot wouldn't fix.
The phone never slept because when it would "No service" on me, I'd get wakelocks for "msm_hsic_host" which would keep the phone awake EVEN IN AIRPLANE MODE, which also in the battery settings showed the red bar for "bad" signal. This happens with AND without a sim, airplane mode or not. I'm currently on Pure Nexus and Franco's kernel to disable hsic wakelocks, and I'm seeing another one for "qcril_pre_client_init" when the issue happens. Which would be the Qualcomm radio interface layer, by the name, I'm assuming android is trying to turn on the radio and keeping the phone awake. This shouldn't happen in airplane mode, I've also tried "Toggle Cell Radio 5.0" to directly turn off the cell radio; Issue remains.
The randomness of when it happens, how it's "resolved" by a simple reboot, and the fact that airplane mode has zero effect on when it happens basically cripples it as a tablet as well, it never sleeps so the battery life is pretty crap (about 18%/hour screen off). After a reboot the thing is great as long as the thing has signal, runs cold, great life, charges fast, sleeps deep. Befuddled that it still does it without a sim card and airplane mode...
My question to the users here: If anyone else has any insight on this, and if anyone knows how to completely disable the cellular interface and literally turn it into a tablet. Is there any rom or such that doesn't try to wake/use the cellular radio and keep the thing awake.
EDIT: Yes, I've run the factory images from google, 5.0.0, 6.0, and 6.0.1 during testing.
The sim card is new, I've already changed it.
Yes the device is actually an XT1103, not a knockoff.
Sorry if any of this information wasn't clear enough.
Further Observations:
During the night I had zero reboots (It's setup to reboot on signal loss, so from here reboot == signal loss), then after taking it off of charge and turning the screen off, then back on after about 5 seconds the signal was lost and it rebooted.
This got me thinking, so on the way to work, I streamed music and had zero problems, not on the charger. After reaching work, I moved some offline music onto my phone and it acted fine as well. The phone never reboots if the screen is kept on as well.
This tells me it's something about how android switches to low-power on the cellular radio. Perhaps the radio cannot wake up properly from the low-voltage sleep state.
tl;dr
When phone is 'active' and not sleeping, problem doesn't arise.
Acts normal with screen off: Streaming music, Regular music, Plugged in.
Acts normal with screen on always.
If doing nothing and phone sleeps: reboots, usually on wake up (i.e. turning screen on to check time)
Likely issue with sleeping/low-power to the cellular radio.
Current bad "solution" play music with phone muted.
However, this doesn't seem to be too bad an impact on battery life, music player has used a total of 1% in the last two hours, screen is top again, where it was android os.
EDIT: Went all day without dropping signal by keeping music playing muted. At 52% after about 12 hours, 3 hours screen on, an hour VOIP call, wifi on the entire time. Not the best solution, but it's livable.
Further testing: I've tried a couple "keep awake" apps that set wakelocks and they do not seem to help, but this might be that they are not designed for marshmallow.
I've also "unoptimized" anything related to phone/cellular in the battery settings to prevent doze from sleeping them, no effect, double the apps directly hit the radio.
first off, first thing that I would do is fastboot flash the latest 6.0.1 factory image(then root it). as the issue sounds like a software problem. if it is, this would fix it. if it still is broken, then I'd root it for sure, then disable the cellular connectivity issue with my root access. without root, you are stuck with airplane mode, only.

I mentioned that I stock flashed... I tried 6.0.1 and even 5.0.0... Also I'm on a custom rom + kernel, so I kiiiinda have root access as well. I don't mean to sound uppity or anything, but did you even read my entire post? If you have a way to completely disable the cellular radio, by all means share. Only other thing I can think of to try tomorrow when I get time is to flash an incompatible baseband, but I can see it causing the same issue with I/O problems.

By saying what you did that doesnt say if you went completely stock with the google images or some of the roms floating around. There is something in the background trying to force the device to connect to cell netowork. I would completely erase the device and make sure to format everything with the flash all bat file. You will ose everything on the device.
Also could be a lose connection in the hardware.

When I said stock, I meant the factory images from google... I've completely wiped the device several times. I'm not new to the entire process... That's why in my original post I stated possible hardware, but curious as to why it does it even in airplane mode when it shouldn't poll the cell radio at all. Further testing seems to say that disabling location access (I generally use battery saver, gps only for navigation), it holds signal longer. Potentially something wrong with how the system requests location.

You know we are all kinda dumb here. Myself included.

Already got a new sim, updated info in original post.
Attached a screen with battery info, from testing it's pretty accurate.
After implementing my "solution" for a couple days, it seems to sleep fine now without losing signal. Remember, I have tasker setup to reboot on signal loss so this is informative that it actually sleeps now...
Was the phone ever wet? The signal loss is common on my Nexus, as with my previous, always have missed calls etc, got a voicemail but no missed call notification. However it doesn't really describe the radio issue your describing. I'm almost certain the mother board is malfunctioning. The radio turns to low power mode in doze, but never returns to full power state. Seems to me that it's a communication issue from the motherboard. Neat idea for your "solution".

I have, I think it's a hardware problem where the modem can't wake up from low power state similar to some cpus unable to wake if set too low.
Seemingly a breakthrough
Did a few more things and testing and I seem to have gotten onto something. I've attached screenshots showing just over 3 hours deep sleep and included battery info page. As a recap I couldn't get 10 seconds of deep sleep before tasker would wakeup the phone because it lost signal, then wait 30 seconds before rebooting it to get signal again, unless I was playing music (which kept the phone awake and thus never lost signal). You may notice on the upper left the carrier symbol, I'm on Project Fi and using Signal Spy to show which carrier I'm currently on. After doing my tests today it swaps carriers fine without ever completely dropping the radio and requiring a reboot to regain signal.
I'll do more tests and see how long, if it does to act up. If I seem to have actually found a real solution, I'll post what I did to resolve the issue just incase any other Nexus 6 users are experiencing problems.
Edit: Small note worth mentioning, wifi seems more stable as well. I'm able to keep AndroIRC connected with the screen off whereas I was having issues with it disconnecting randomly. This MAY just be due to something else, but still noting it here.

Strange behavior from Nexus 6 Display

My N6 is running Android 7.0, have not had problems until a couple of days ago.
The right half of my display started scrolling while, the left side of the display was normal. I powered it off and back on a couple of times and, the issue was still there; I panicked and did a factory reset from the "Settings" menu hoping that would solve the problem, it did not; I still had a jacked up display.
Is this a failure mode that anyone else has seen?
I powered the phone off and, turned it back on with the volume control button pressed and, it booted into safe mode(?) then, I toggled the mode to "Restart" and, upon restart, my display was normal. This was not the end as, it will occasionally be split screen when I unlock it. I have discovered that sometimes if I receive or make a call the display will return to normal, if not, I just power cycle it into the safe-recovery mode (but not do anything else) then toggle to restart and, it's all good until next time.
Is it possible that another device (blue-tooth) in close proximity could cause my phone display to act up?

So weird, but same thing has been happening to me the past few days. But I have a justified cause. It started immediately after installing Franco Kernel.

It is a known hardware issue in some N6 phones, some have it and it only shows up on certain rom / kernel combos, even stock. One thing that helps is to use the interactive kernel governor and/or the down sampling factor. Of course you will need a kernel manager app for that.

That's good to know.
I inserted the Bluetooth question because, coincidentally or not this issue presented when I acquired a wristwatch ($19.00 from China) that connected to my phone via Bluetooth, It had it's own fitness app which I installed (which did not work). To me, there seems to be more "connection" than expected as, the fault thing only seems to happen when the watch was powered on (but not even connected via Bluetooth). If there was a bug caused by the companion app, that should have been taken care of by the factory reset.
I'm going to do some "scientific testing" by, not powering on the watch for a week and see if the issue reoccurs. Meanwhile, I will read up on kernel manager apps.
I've since flashed stock pn, and now elementalx. It's not acted up yet. Seemes to be a better performance kernel. We'll see how battery is. Sorry to hijack your thread!

Well, so much for "scientific testing" and wishful thinking.....didn't take long to eliminate the wristwatch, now to fix the problem.

phone randomly turning off

Hey all just checking to see if anyone has same issue, it is persisting beyond an update. I plug in for night and usually every morning screen is off. Takes me holding down power button for ten seconds for it to come back. Not sure if I'm rebooting phone and it was on or if it was off.
Same here. Got it 2 times. No idea!!!
Exactly same issue, happens every 3-4 days.
I have same problem. After last update, that hapoend 3 times already. I wonder why...
Guys you have to search before posting. Here is the topic i made a while back. Have had this issue since then and i notice it because i have the aod (always on display) and the screen disappears.

Apps i suspect:
Blockada
Owntracks
Health mate
Spotify
Which of these are you guys using? Maybe we can deduce if its an app or some firmware issue.
From your list I'm using only Spotify. However I'm afraid that my phone was turning off even before I got this app. Will check anyway (already uninstalled it), and will let you know.
What I can say for sure is that my phone is switching off completely (not only display) as all my Bluetooth devices are disconnected straight away.
Hope we will find a solution for this issue!
it happened to me twice as well, having the phone for almost 2 months. It is a bit annoying and I dont understand why it happens. Among the list of these apps, I only have Spotify installed as well.
I dont have any apps from Your list. My phone turned off twice since last update, before that, for 1 month everything was ok. Now seems good aswell, we will see.
Seems like its none of the apps. My phone also completely disconnects from my devices and none of the buttons work (like double press volume button for camera). Have to hold the power button for a while and it starts up.
My Always on display is off
Random phone off was happening before the update and it's still happening after!
Also at times phone send to be so sluggish! 7gb+ram still available at that time.
North America 12gb/512gb.
All stock.

Ok, this issue together with the reported complaints of dust in camera lens has made me hold on the purchase of this phone.
Isn't there an official ROG II forum where all of you can complain so Asus can look into this issue maybe request dump files and resolve it once and for all?

Well my doesn't randomly turn off and I'm using blockada if that sheds any light...
Also, I don't use Spotify
I have deleted all the apps. Literally done a reset to the factory settings to see what happen and this morning phone turned off again... That's really annoying.
I have found relevant topic on Asus forum: https://zentalk.asus.com/en/discussion/12715/rog-phone-2-12-512-freezes-and-auto-restart-problem
Looks like they are not fully aware of the problem....
Is there any update for this case?
I'm experiencing random hangs as well after updated the firmware to the latest. It reads my power button and will shows the options to reboot but the UI is totally not responsive, have to hard reset it Everytime.
Since factory reset everything seems to be fine, however it's just few days since I have done it.
09/12/2019 - I can confirm that after factory reset everything works fine. If anything change I will let you guys know straight away.
02/01/2020 - Annnnnd it's back... After few weeks phone started switching off again and tbh the whole thing intensified. Yesterday phone went off 9 times. On top of that when it's off it drains battery like crazy - 5mins and 20% is gone. Bluetooth doesn't work properly as well. I'm aware that others don't have any problems with ROGII, however I'm afraid that due to personal experience I won't buy Asus phone again and won't recommend it to anyone.
Rog phone 2 turns off automatically
Same problem here happened twice in 2 days everytime phone is off i have to hard restart to switch on the phone
Does anybody got any solution for this problem
Yes I have faced a similar issue since I have updated to android 10 beta. This happened once. I left my phone for charging and the screen blacked out. I had to press the vol up+dwn and power to restore the functionality. Strange.

What version of beta you use?
It happened to me twice in three months. The smartphone got stuck/freeze in standby mode: no response from the physical buttons or touch. I use the official android 9 rom.
I managed to restart it with the power button and volume up/down pressed for 15 seconds.

No apps install in the list nd it randomly switch off my phone it's software issue
Mine started turning off after 1 minute of use. Couldn't stop it nor control it.
Managed to barely get the WhatsApp backup and then factory reset the device. So far things are ok. But setting up from scratch is a pain in the ass.
I suspect that I tried to enable twin apps on WeChat while being on Nova Launcher. That may have triggered something, But I'm not sure.
