[Q] Turn off wrist flick thing....?

Is there a way to turn off the flicky wrist screen on thing on my G watch R? I use the "always-on screen" feature and dont need the display to light up fully every time i look at the watch....!

If you mute it, it turns that off. But then it is muted so I do not know if that is any good to you.

Most people seem to be using always on. Why? if you list your hand to look it comes on. It will make the battery last for a shorter time and what about screen burn? I may just be overthinking this.

ive done some playing around with screen always on / off and it really doesnt seem to make that much difference to battery 6:30am - 10:30pm and i have 50% battery left with screen always on. u might be able to get a few more % having it off but i didnt notice much difference in testing.
not sure about screen burn tho...

I am worried about the screen burn-in issue. The phone based on the same P-OLED display technology G Flex suffers from this problem. I can see that the quality of GWaR's panel is improved but the burn in problem should exist as long as it's oled.
Another small thing I noticed is when you use stock watch faces, their always on screen content will randomly shift a little every minute, to avoid screen burn(so LG is aware of this problem). Thus worrying about the screen burn is not over-thinking. I turned off the always-on function when I use 3rd party watch faces. (EDIT: 3rd-party watch faces can shift itself too, seems like it's a system-wide screen saving mechanism)

yes, it is - the Samsung Gear Live has the same feature - lets hope it helps in the long run...

This is doing my head in, whats the point in an always on ambient mode, if the bloody thing turns on every time i move my arm. Pointless.
And mute it to stop it, then makes wearing it pointless?
This needs to be addressed asap!

Well, the darn thing dosn't always turn on when i look at my watch, and i like the way it looks when always on, and don't want an all black display when others look at my Beutiful watch...!!! ??

LOL I think you misunderstood my post. I am in 100% agreement with both of you in that we need to be able to disable the "auto on" behavior without muting notifications.

Just got my watch yesterday and this is also making me crazy... That's why I came to the forum in the first place. We need a setting to turn off the wake up movement gesture

Same thing here, it should be a fundamental control to turn this feature off. I'm a little worried about battery life on mine too, for some reason I'm just barely squeaking 24 hours on a full charge with no more than 12 notifications per day???

Patience my friends. Apparently there is a new update on the way, some lollipop for wear which has this much needed feature implemented.

Are you referring to "Theater Mode"? That turns the screen off. We want the screen to be on but in the dim state.

I found that ambient display is useless.
I was thinking that whenever I got notification, the ambient display will lit the screen and then OFF ... then lit ... then OFF.
You know, kind of asking attention.
It is NOT.
It lit ONCE, then OFF forever, until I pick up the phone (of course).
The problem with this, if I leave the phone on my desk for quite long, I won't know if there was notification arrived, unless I pick up the phone.
So, what's the use of this ambient display?

So you can either see the notification come in first time when it lights up. Or you can quickly pick the phone up to see if there are any notifications without it fully waking up.
LED is easier though!

I prefer they don't lit it on and off constantly because it is distracting when you are in a meeting and it drains your battery. Though having an option would be nice

Yeah, I agree it is a useless battery wasting feature (though the impact to battery is minimal). Thankfully the LED can be enabled with Light Flow even though that is flawed as well since the app will randomly get killed and the light won't work.
Ambient Display would be perfect if it flashed continuously until you check it and if it worked in priority mode, which it doesn't if you have priority mode set up like the old silent mode. If you don't want your phone making noise or vibrating but still need to see notifications it is pretty worthless.

I was told Google is moving away from using led notification, but yet they designed a phone? with one built in but totally useless at this point. Hopefully the next update will address this.

Mine flashes continually until I check things... Every ten seconds or so. It is wonderful... Not sure what is up with your guys' one time notifications...

ambient display is alrite.... It doesn't work that well though. It does not consistently work when you pick up the phone. I would much rather have them activate the LED since it's already there.

I'm setting this gripe in many circles outside of xda hopefully they will address it in the next update. Lots of corporate people want that portion which was always a part of android and even non android phones of the past.

in all fairness, Moto made the phone, whether for Android Silver or whatever other reason, it wasnt designed ground up with Google or originally planned as a Nexus.
I like ambient. Works great for me. and being an Amoled display, only the pixels being used light up, so battery is minimal

users report otherwise.

Does the device wake up from deep sleep for it? If yes it sure does suck a lot of battery. Especially if it is supposed to flash up in intervals to remind you of the notification.

I just tested it... it flashes up every 30 seconds or so. As soon as as you click on it the screen is on without any delay. So I guess it screws your battery hard by making it wake up each time? It would mean that as soon as you have a notification your device would wake up every 30 seconds.

I can't get Lightflow to work at all. Do you need a kernel that has LED support?

I am just using the regular ambient feature built into the stock rom. I am encrypted, rooted with stock kernel on stock 5.0.1. I have not messed with any AOSP roms .

Rooted and use root access for the LED activated in Lightflow.
Lightflow screws up ambient tough. It constantly flashes as if it has an notification, even if it only shows the clock. This WILL kill your battery in my opinion...

Led notification will drain batttery fast?

I actually like it more than Active Display. Active was much more sensitive to movements which for really annoying.

I don't know what settings you set to make it do that.
Light Flow doesn't do that here. Cooperates fine with Ambient.

I know there are people (Lightflow Dev) who are working on getting the built-in led working, and I think that's great. I wonder if there are any devs working on making Ambient Display more useful...? I'm going to shut off the Ambient Display today and mess around with an app I used to use on the Galaxy S called NoLed. It puts dots or icons on the screen and could notify me of anything... might be the ticket here.

Does anyone else have this issue? Every time you lock/unlock the brightness auto adjusts again (and it adjusts pretty low)
So even if I manually set it to 100% and lock/unlock it will be down to 25% again. Doesn't seem like it's learning at all

Seems like it takes a lot of time to learn. I don't use it anyway I prefer having control on it

Seems like a bug honestly, because it goes TOO LOW. I tried to lock the device several times to see if the "learning" of the slider improves, but it still goes back to the same spot... I'm gonna keep it deactivated until they fix it.

Android Pie has AI in basically everything and it learns for you, just keep adjusting the brightness manually and in a few days it'll know how you like your brightness and adjust it for you.

I care about to go low! And now I can't go below 19% with Adaptive ON, it's to high for a dark room.

Actually I've been reading similar things about this on the pixel so it might just be the way it is. Might take long for it to learn. I read someone say it's always fun when he first unlocks it

Yeah it could be the new implementation of the AI, I'm gonna use it for a few days to see if it gets better

This has started happening to me since yesterday. I've been using Pie for a month now (December update). What I've noticed is that it goes down to about 25% every time I cover the brightness sensor with my finger (usually when watching YT) and it stays there no matter what. It's pretty annoying having to always adjust it like that. Using "Sensors Monitor" app I see that the sensor is working correctly so it's a software "feature".
Any suggestions on how to mitigate it besides using "Velis Auto Brightness" app?

How do we know its 'AI'? Has it 'adapted' for anyone till now? That brings us tk the question, what was wrong with Auto Brightness in Oreo? Just because there's piece of code that's new, doesn't mean its versatile.

charging status on aod

After updating to pie the aod shows the charging status & estimated time on the bottom that to in white font & it is not moving
It can cause screen burn plz forward this to Samsung offical as it is a serious issue

You realize you can change the AOD to Tap to Display, so it's not always lit up. Or if you typically charge the phone overnight like me, you can schedule AOD to oy turn on during the day.

But if i charge overnight it will be there for the whole night . As it in white & it doenst move so it can cause screen burn very easily.
& i like to have aod on all the time

Then that is the risk you take. If you don't want it to burn in, then change it to tap to display or turn AOD off while charging.

Sir it was not like that before so it must be bug . As it not suppose to be there . They know that if you want that info to be there then it has to move .
Turning off is not solution to it

It's not a bug, it's a design decision from Samsung. You have the solution, so whether you choose to implement it or not is up to you. Glad I could help and have a great day!!

Its not there in note 9 or s9 or any other phone then why would they add the feature in 2 year old that to in new system update. Its common sense.
& using aod is just tap to show is not the sol. If they wanted that then the same thing will be there in note 9 or s9 .

Have you tried factory resetting your phone? Sometimes OS changes can cause bugs.
Or did you try clearing the AOD data and cache?
I would do a factory reset and see. (I think Samsung will tell you the same thing to make sure it's a bug and not a corrupted file from the OS update. )
Use the Samsung plus app to report the bug or Samsung's own forum where they monitor.
We at xda can only give you some ideas to try but we can't fix it because we don't work for Samsung and this is not a Samsung company forum.
It's a good idea to always reset the phone for new OS upgrades.
Let us know after the factory reset if the bug is still there.

i have tried cleaning app date thing but it still the same . Also i have reported it to Samsung lets see if they reply . In Meantime i was just pointing it out here so if any one can help or any 1 is having the same prob can comment on it.

I am awaiting Samsung replay . If not i will do it .
But the main que is that am the only one having this then i will do it . Because that process is big step

Incorrect. It is also present on my Note 9 running official Pie. I'll check my wife's S9+ after it updates to Pie, but I bet it's on there as well.
Again, it's NOT a bug. What it is, is a design decision you don't like. You can turn off AOD to avoid the burn-in. You can set it to tap to display.
I'm telling you how to fix your problem, but you are so determined you are correct, and you aren't. It is not a bug it is a feature of Pie.
Again, its NOT just the Note 8. I have in my hands right now a Note 9 running N960USQU1CSAA and the charging percentage and estimated time to charge appear on the AOD when the Note 9 is on the charger.

Have a look at this thread here. This person posted a screenshot of the official changelog for the Pie update. If you scroll down the screenshot a tiny bit, you will see information about the AOD and it explicitly states the charging information has been added. Like Mr. Orange keeps trying to tell you, Samsung did it intentionally, just like they did other things on the Pie update that people don't like. If you don't like it, find a way to work around it, or go back to Oreo. Those are your options.

Well, you're not supposed to leave your device on charge for 6 hours at a time, anyway. You're not supposed to leave your device on charge over night. Ideally you would only charge it for an hour or two at a time, and even then, during that time you would be using your device at least once or twice, turning it on, thereby not leaving the AOD the only thing on the screen for that entire duration. And, even if you didn't use your phone while it's charging, it's very dim and not on full brightness, so the chances of it burning in that short duration is a lot lower.

You can't have both I guess. I wanted a Jeep Wrangler but also wanted to get 30 miles per gallon. Not possible. So I sacrificed gas mileage for a vehicle I enjoy driving.
You want AOD on all the time, but you don't want the charging status to show while you're charging it. You can't have both. So you will either have to shut off AOD while charging or risk screen burn-in I guess.

No little delay in screen locking after display off?

Hi there,
I noticed the Mi 9 screen is locked immediately when the display turns off after the idle time. It's quite annoying.
Usually with other phones, the phone locking happens only after some delay, so when the display light is just shut off - I could knock to wake it up without the need of unlocking the phone again and again.
Do you know any solution or workaround?
