Anyone facing fullscreen gestures issue in MIUI 12.5 Nova launcher? - Redmi K20 Pro / Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Questions & Answe

Recently updated to MIUI 12.5 Indian version. Fullscreen gestures don't seem to work in Nova launcher. Anyone else have this issue?

Same here, using European version "12.5.1.0(RFKEUXM)".
A real nightmare!

Yes, full-screen nav gestures won't work if you have set any other launcher other than MIUI but if you open nova manually then gestures will work

What do you mean by "open nova manually"? I've tried switch back to the stock launcher and then back to nova but the gestures still don't work. Thanks.

As much as i have seen and heard miui 12.5 doesn't support 3rd party launchers correctly or something like that so u would may not be able to use any 3rd party launcher correctly

Hi, same here. Just updated today. I have to use fluid N.G. for now but it's working rather well this way

It's kind of annoying. I've been using the vanilla launcher for months because of this.

You can use Fluid NG.
For hiding the 3 button navbar use this ADB command (need to run every reboot)
adb shell settings put global force_fsg_nav_bar 1

Ok, Till now Full Screen Navigation Gestures won't work with MIUI12.5. U can Use "Fluid Navigation Gestures".
It's a third party app but works perfectly fine with my K20 Pro with MIUI12.5.1.
U can get Fluid from here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fb.fluid&hl=en&gl=US
Install it and follow the activation process. After Activation, Just go To settings>Additional Settings>Full Screen Display and turn on "Full Screen Gestures".

I don't think this is necessary in K20 Pro considering that it has in-built disable option. After activating Fluid, you can just go to settings>Additional Settings>Full Screen Display and turn on "Full Screen Gestures".

What's your Miui version?
On my 12.5 global there isn't this option

Question Double Tap to screen off on launcher?

Seems like that the functionality in the settings menu is only working from lockcreen and not on launcher...
Is there a way (preferably with the stock launcher) to do it? many apps break the lock screen/fingerprint...
I'am on miui 12 global, all stock: got the phone yesterday from offiial MI store Italy...
I assigned a long press on the Home button to turn off the screen.
Search settings for assignable button functions.
Vai in Impostazioni Aggiuntive - Collegamento tasti.

Here on the Mi Note 10 (I'm waiting for my Mi 11 Ultra to arrive) it doesn't work either (for after the last update). And gestures also donā€™t work on other launchers (only in stock).
I simply have a widget on the home that locks the screen when pressed. Look in the widgets, you'll find it. Not the best solution but it works.
When you get to 12.5.4/5/6 the double tap to lock screen works flawlessly
Not working for me in 12.5.6

Xiaomi decided to implement full gestures only in stock launcher not in system UI and not in poco launcher within Android 11
Workarounds:
Install from GooglePlayStore:
Infinity Gestures
Fluid Navigation Gestures
Use CustoMIUIzer
Laucher -> Gestures -> there you have a lot of options

My Fluid Navigation gestures app dies after a while.
As in the gestures stop working (After a few minutes, or after a reboot), so had to switch to Edge Gestures.
Had Autostart enabled, Battery features disabled etc..
But didnt help. Is there anything additional that you did ?
Double tap works fine for Mi 11 Pro on 12.5.7 (same firmware) did not know it was available until I went through the settings again.

Weird I couldn't get it to work, I was double tapping on an empty space in home screen and it never worked except the lock screen.

It had stopped here once, then I put it in the control center (status bar), left it without the battery saving restriction and activated the automatic start. After that it hasn't stopped yet.

Question Nova launcher with gestures navigation

As some of you know you can't use Full gesture navigation on MIUI with Android 11, either version 12.0 or 12.5, Xiaomi hasn't yet fixed this issue cause its seems at least Samsung and Oneplus already fixed it.
I have searched and found some alternatives to gesture navigation using 3rd party launchers like Nova Launcher.
Tried Infinity Gestures and Fluid Navigation Gestures but its no hiding my navigation bar, by accessibility or root.
Do you guys know other good alternatives that simulate Miui gestures? preferably not paid or with ads.
I am using FNG and its working perfectly fine. device is rooted.
to hide navbar, use this command via adb or rooted terminal
'settings put global force_fsg_nav_bar 1'
before root somehow fng was not working but infinity was working perfectly

After setting up Nova as your default launcher, download my gestures or edge gestures app from playstore, set it up and then go into homescreen inside the MIUI settings. There change navigation from buttons to gestures. This will remove the nav bar. By default this will lock you inside the setting app as the default gestures do not work if system launcher is changed from Mi launcher to any third party launcher. That's why I said first set up my gestures/edge gestures so that you don't get locked inside the settings app.
Btw when the phone is rooted, I'll dare to suggest to try CustoMIUIzer. It has a launcher section where you can tweak the default launcher such as hiding icon labels and modifying home screen gestures. May be you shall not feel the need to change Mi launcher to third party launcher, after tweaking it with CustoMIUIzer!!

Question Disable navigation buttons miui global 12.5.8

With the new update, miui global 12.5.8, the system no longer allows gestures AND third party launchers and forces default launcher to the system launcher if gesture navigation is selected. 3rd party launchers work with button navigation, and FGN. However, with 3rd party and FNG the navigation buttons persist. Is there anyway around this (i.e. 3rd party launcher with gesture navigation without navigation buttons persisting).
I have tried disabling the miui system launcher through adb, but it doesn't seem to work, launcher is still running.
Selecting the default launcher as system launcher, selecting gesture navigation and then launching 3rd party launcher and FNG gets the desired outcome, however the system launcher is still running/ selected as default (gesture for home button swaps back to system launcher - can remap home gesture to open 3rd party launcher as a work around for the home button).
Thanks,
Found a solution, but doesn't stick with power cycle:
adb shell settings put global force_fsg_nav_bar 1

Hey thanks mate, I try this and it looks successful, but can not keep when we reboot, any solutions for that bro, I also report issue to Xiaomi / Nova as well, is this Android 11's issue ?
Dears
I'm experiencing the same issue as OakaO with MIUI 12.5.8: cannot even set gestures if a 3-party launcher is being in use.
I've read this interesting thread https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/third-party-launcher-gestures.62948/ and tried the two solutions described there.
They works but have some side effects.
First solution:
The usage of the LADB app with the command settings put global force_fsg_nav_bar 1 works but has the side effect that you lose any theme status bar you may have configured: the status bar gets back to the one of the stock theme.
In addition it seems to not be resilient to reboot so after any reboot you have to enable ADB stuff and so on (for security reason, I prefer to not have them always enabled)
(I don't like that so I skipped this solution)
Second solution:
the usage of the adb command adb shell cmd overlay enable com.android.internal.systemui.navbar.gestural works too but (as stated in the thread) it has the side effect that you still see the gesture bar (which reduces also the screen size) but you totally lose the bottom gestures (even if you use Fluid Navigation Gestures app)
(I don't like that so I skipped this solution too)
At the end..... I lose the game and I'm using now my 3-party launcher with 3 navigation buttons which gives me a really ugly effect especially because I use also klwp theme and the 3 buttons are really bad.
After that I wrote on MI community (here the thread https://c.mi.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=3943484&page=1&extra=#pid20869921 ).
I'm still waiting for a further feedback but I'm worried that this behaviour is not a bug but a clear choice or strategy from Xiaomi.
Let's see what will happen.
bye
I don't want the nav bar but the software buttons.. the problem is that they are white and autohide does not work in most apps.
any solution?

Question How to get rid of Nav Bar on Android 11, MIUI 12.5.8 with NOVA Launcher

Hi,
I know this is a topic that has come a few times. I've been researching this for hours, but I'm at my end's wits. If anyone can solve it, I'd be grateful!
Phone: Redmi Note 10 Pro
My setup: NOVA LAUNCHER
MIUI: 12.5.8
Android 11
FNG app (Fluid Navigation Gestures)
My goal: to have navigation gestures with Nova Launcher without the bottom Android Nav Bar
I am aware that since Android 11, they've blocked the usage of system gestures when using custom launchers (why they did that, I still don't understand, but that's irrelevant.) Up until last night when MIUI updated itself automatically, my current config was working:
NOVA + FNG + switch system settings from BUTTONS to GESTURES.
This was working fine: in the phone settings switching to "GESTURES" would hide the bottom navigation button bar, and FNG would be activating the gestures in place of the system.
But last night's MIUI update now increased the level of difficulty. It is now impossible in the phone settings to select GESTURES when a custom launcher is active. When NOVA is the selected default launcher, tapping on GESTURES in system settings gives this message: "Can't use full screen gestures with third party launchers. Switch to the system launcher and turn on full screen gestures?". Tapping OK will disable NOVA and activate full screen gestures.
So, I'm now stuck with BUTTONS NAV BAR, which not only takes real estate space on the screen, but is just damn annoying.
I have tried using ABD command I found in another thread to hide the Buttons Nav Bar:
adb shell pm grant com.fb.fluid android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
But this does not work. I rebooted and all, but buttons are still there.
I do not wish to root the phone because I have never done it in the past, and somehow I fear it would introduce security issues. So I'm desperately trying to find another solution to hide the buttons nav bar.
Any idea?
I have to say, I really do not understand why they are forcing people to use stock launcher with gestures. Why is it a problem that custom launchers use system gestures in the first place? One reason I always enjoyed Android over iPhone is the fact that the system was more open compared to Apple who always made their system so closed and contrived. But I have to say that lately, I have found Android to be more and more annoying when it comes to customization.

I think so too... Because like i explained in my original message I normally was able to hide the nav bar by simply choosing "gestures" in the phone settings, but then one update happened and it became impossible to use that trick anymore. Since then, I have tried ABD command with FNG gesture app and that didn't work either. And now ABD command did not work with Vivid App.
So strange that they make it so hard to use gestures and hide nav bar when we use a third party launcher. Why don't they want us to use a third party launcher? It's the whole point of Android to be able to customize it... This is pretty crazy.

EDIT: My zip (to install in TWRP) doesn't work for devices shipped with Android 10(+). Workaround: Magisk! Install Magisk and this Magisk module => Hide_Navigation_Bar_v1.0-Magisk.zip
.., but to another phone (Redmi T9 Pro) Miui 12.5.6

How To Guide How to remove navigation buttons and enable gestures on 3rd party Launchers?

Hello people, as I've seen unlocking and rooting is mooving along quite good. And since in each xiaomi device forum there's a topic like this.
I've tried several apps/methods (adb) to enable navigation gestures on Nova launcher specially, but with no avail. Of course I haven't tried rooting because that's not an option for me.
Currently I'm using navigation buttons with edge gestures (app), but I don't want to use nav buttons permanently as I worry about screen burn in.
So has anyone managed to enable gestures on 3rd party launchers and/or remove/hide the navigation bar? Please enlight us
EDIT: I MADE IT WORK
After several days searching, reading and trying I was about to give up on this one. I was getting acustomed to use Navigation bar + edge gestures (app) and I was kind of happy. But, luckly today I used some of my last shots to try to accomplish it and I DID IT.
Thus here's a brief guide on how to do it:
Install ADB and Fastboot Drivers from here (Select the latest) -> https://androidmtk.com/download-minimal-adb-and-fastboot-tool )
Install drivers for Xiaomi 11T Pro -> https://droidfilehost.com/download/download-xiaomi-usb-driver-for-windows
Enable Developer Options
On Developer options Enable: USB Debugging, Install via USB and USB Debugging (Security settings)
After that and by checking in power shell or the command prompt on windows with "adb devices". If your device get listed you're golden.
Open power shell or CMD on the folder where you installed minimal adb and fastboot.
Type and enter adb shell
Then on the adb console type: settings put global force_fsg_nav_bar 1
This will hide the navigation bar and it will put gestures as your main navigation method, but take into account that you should configure prior to this process another gesture app such as FNG with your preferred gestures. Other additional things you can do is set FNG as "autostart" in app settings and/or lock it in the recents view.
AFAIK Navigation bar will reappear every time you reboot your pohone, in that case you should only repeat the adb command and you should be good. If anyone knows a permanent solution without root please let us all know.
Hope it works for you as it did for me.
I checked about this last week, since I personally use Nova Launcher.
Unfortunately even with the existing phones that are using MIUI 12 that have been out for 1 year or so, I couldnt find a solution with the navigation gestures. If I find something, I will let you know.

Just made it work, check the OP if you want to try it.
It works for me too, but needs permanent solution.
Permanent solution requires rooted phone and can be done like this:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/irs1eb
Another permanent solution I've been using since MIUI 12.5 update on my POCO is to install Substratum Lite (root required) and nonavbar.apk. Then open Substratum Lite. For me it applied the changes at this point and I just had to restart the phone but you might have to select the Nonavbar theme in substratum then thick the "Android System (Android [11])" checkbox click "1 SELECTED" then click "install selected". Restart and go back to this screen to "Enable selected".
All credit goes to @Veiran for this solution.

How can I bring it back?
EDIT: Figured it out just change " 1 " to " 2 " (props qemu.hw.mainkeys 2)
EEDIT: I can't remove it back again once I did the (props qemu.hw.mainkeys 2), how can I remove it again?

Did this, works perfectly.
Hey guys,
There's a very simple method.
DON'T NEED ROOT!
1.Turn on the Gesture Navigation and keep the System Launcher default.
2. Remove all shortcuts from the system launcher, just put a shortcut to your favourite launcher.
Now, you can use it as normal, just needs 2 click for the home
BUT:
3.If you use the FNG (find in Play Store) along with the system navigation, you can set the Up Gesture (normally the Home) to launch your favourite launcher (mine is Total Launcher) and if you do the Home Gesture 99% your favourite launcher will come up
(1% you have to click on the shortcut on the system launcher).
