I've been receiving text messages from someone's gmail account and am unable to block these because the only option is to block messages tied to a phone number. Anyone have any suggestions?

Welcome to XDA
You need to block each one.
Do not reply or open any attachments.
Turn off multimedia messaging in settings.
See if your carrier has more options.

Thanks, Blackhawk....this message contained the same list of recipient phone numbers in the previous message I received - and I had blocked each one of those numbers. I don't open the messages and I don't reply, I have just ended up deleting them. I finally found the multimedia messaging in settings and have turned it off as you suggested and I'm hoping this works. Thank you!

It reduces the chance of being infected with malware.
Also block unknown numbers.

I had made it free today. You can download from market directly and have a try. I am looking forward to your comments. Thank you very much.
Looks like a good free app but sends the call to voice mail. Would be better if for an incoming call the phole answers then hands up. This has a two fold benifit, first the spammer is charged for phoning me and second no voice mail.
if there is an incoming call, does the app block the call instantly or will the phone rings then block?
will there be a notification of the blocked calls? coz personally i dun want to see who's call i blocked......

Yeah, I noticed that with other firewall apps too. They all send to voicemail. That's part of the standard OS if you just click "send all calls from voicemail" under the contact for that number.
I want something that blocks them, or better yet - set up a forwarding number for their individual phone#. I'd love to forward the telemarketers right back to themselves. ha.

aFirewall just endCall when the call need to be blocked. Woud you like to let me know the call will be send to voicemail automaticlly when the call was rejected in your operator? That is to say, this is a default configuration of your phone as my Nortel IP landline phone does.
I can add a feature to aFirewall to forward a call to another number when a call was rejected.
Thanks.

If a blocked call was incoming, aFirewall end it instantly and no rings. And no notification was sent to you in default configuration. But your can enable it if you want this. Thanks.
How did you go about hanging up the call on incoming. I have looked into this and from what I can see this is not in the current version of the SDK.
If you could post some code that would be awesome!
Thanks
this app does not work at all....i added a contact to black list and have it set to block both calls and sms, and im still getting the calls and messages from that person... :/
I've had an unlocked G1 for a while now and its been going great. Calls, wifi, tethering, mms, all of it works just fine.
The only issue I'm having is with my voicemail. When I call the AT&T voicemail number, it says it needs more information from me, it then gives me the option to enter the 10 digit number to leave a message, or press pound to access my voicemail. If I try entering my number to leave a message, it says it isn't set up and cannot leave a message. If I hit pound and try to access my voicemail, it says the mailbox number does not exist.
Anybody know how to fix this issue?

Use YouMail. It's really nice, has it's own app and you can personalize messages for everyone in your phonebook.

I actually had a friend who had an extra invite for Google Voice, so I got signed up for that and am using it for all of my voicemail needs.
Good to hear that your problem is solved.
Remember to edit the title of your new thread with FIXED or SOLVED so people like me don't stop by just to read that you fixed your own problem.
On Handcent when I send a Message the Icon of the person I am sending it to Shows the Picture I have assigned to the Contact. How do I place a Picture of myself in the Sender Icon?
Thanks
You should just have to put your own phone number in your contacts with a picture of yourself and it should show up when you send them. It works for me

You don't have to do this. You just go to Settings>Handcent services. The top option is account picture. Click that and you're set. You don't have to have your own number and picture in your contacts as it's pointless.

Ya my bad, this is actually how I did it. I just assumed it was due to having myself as a contact.
Should have asked this in the Handcent forums.
I can't seem to send more than 100 sms. if i try to do that i will get the error "“A large number of messages are being sent" and i have to click okay or cancel. Any way to bypass this? i've googled so much but cant seem to come up with the solution.
The only solution i've found is the one saying that i have to open /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/
settings.db
and execute the following command: INSERT INTO gservices (name, value) VALUES
('sms_outgoing_check_max_count', 101);
But the problem is that the table gservices is not in that file.
Have i missed something?
I think I had this problem before. A reboot fixed it. Try that.

If they have been sent, they would be delivered. If not, you would have to retry sending them after a reboot.

I want to be able to open Google Now and say something like "text Batman" and make that phrase open up a voice input field so that it begins to transcribe a message I speak and have that message sent to a specific contact. I could obviously just rename the contact "Batman," but that would be self-defeating, as I want to keep the contact name as what it currently is. Any suggestions?

Try adding "Batman" as a nickname in his contact. Then you can use either his real name or "Batman".

Perfect, thank you. I did that before but it didn't register immediately so I had assumed it didn't work. Problem solved.
