I am getting mixed information if it's possible to unlock/root my Verizon S21 Ultra.
(Snapdragon - G998U - 3.1 UI)
Can anyone validate this?

No you are updated too far. You need to be on BL 1 and you are on 4. You can tell witch BL version by checking the 5th number from the last of the firmware.
So all the online services/ YouTube videos are BS? is there anyway to downgrade?

There is no way to downgrade. Just wait for developers to hack and root the latest bootloader.
Talked to Samsung today, they set me up an appointment at a repair shop to unlock my bootloader.
Snapdragon. V4 bootloader.
My appointment is for 3-5 PM EST, so if they do unlock it I'll start making TWRP and ****.

I'm getting the runaround from the stores. Samsung said they 100% can do this, but then I called a store to see if I can go in early, and they claimed the FRP tool (which is needed to unlock the bootloader) wasn't functional on their system, so I called 3 other stores and they all acted like they didn't even know what a bootloader was. I'm contacting Samsung again to have them sort it out.
*Edit If they keep making me run in circles, I'll be directing my efforts towards breaking the chain of trust manually.
Please keep us updated!
is there any update?

I know there's a root method out already, but I prefer to hold off given the potential limitations (especially the battery 80% issue).
Based on your experience, do you think there will be a better root method coming out soon?
Thanks!

because it requires a unlocked bootloader, not a engineering bootloader.
If the S8\s8+ doesn't get it, we def ain't gonna get it for Snapdragon users.

What that means is no one has been able to find a workaround (engineering or otherwise) or not smart enough to figure it out yet and they're not clairvoyant enough to know if anyone can in the future. But I think it's a great question that I had actually been wondering myself.

Soon? absolutely not. I recommend backing up your stuff using samsung cloud and trying the root to see how it affects you. Exynos has a Unlocked BL HOWEVER it does not work on CDMA carriers.

i'm on Tmobile, so maybe i should get the exynos version if that root works better?
also, which phone/brand is easy to root?

if you get exynos there's a chance you'll have the issue where you have to wait 7 days to unlock your bootloader, you can get the korean version which comes unlocked out of box.
If you're not looking to deal with this kind of risk then go for pixel line, one plus 5\5t when it comes out, not sure what else really, the essential phone should have unlocked bootloader and roms soon as they've promised to release the source code and image files.

The files are no longer available. Can you repost them.
I cannot for the life of me figure out whats going wrong. I bought SM-G960UZKAXAA (US unlocked s9). I wanted VZW's advanced calling features so I put SM-G960U on the device (instead of the SM-G960UI, as it should be). I've used the special Odin and stock firmware to revert, and it seems to be successful, according to Odin, but nothing ever changes. Still get the VZW splash screen and other VZW stuff. HELP!?

Your stuck on v2 bootloader as carrier bound devices released them first
Ypu will have to wait til u1 firmware releases a update to the v2 bootloader then everything should go back as normal
can you update the links?
also, how come one person said FED 1 2018 and another person said May 1st security patch?
if this is the same U1 firmware available in other posts, why flood xda dev with so much duplicate posts?

Hi, I apologize if this is easy info to find, I have tried to search but have been unsuccessful.
I have an unlocked s20fe, I am missing some vzw features, mainly video calling. Can anyone tell me...
1. Is it possible to flash this device
2. Can I find a vzw official rom? Or one based off of it?
I have been out of the rom/root game since back in the days of the note 3 and razr Maxx. So I apologize for my current ignorance.
Thank you for your help!

Not true. There are paid services that will unlock the bootloader, though folks may not be comfortable with the method and price.

How about a vzw rom? Any link to a reputable service? None of the devices that I used in the past had "unlocked bootloaders". They were all dependant upon an exploit that someone took advantage of, so not really concerned if it is not an 'official' unlock. Thanks for the help!
Bump for a link?

Good morning
I'm looking for global FW and I can't seem to find one that has bootloader version 5. My VZW phone just got an update on Jan 24 and evidently updated the BL to V.5
The most recent SM-G998U1 firmware only shows bootloader version 4. Am I just stuck? Any guidance is way appreciated!
Not sure what you mean by global FW, probably unbranded US FW.
You will just have to wait until G998U1 FW with BL 5 is released. Basically stuck until then...

Awesome! Thanks for the heads up!
I just posted a thread on how to carrier unlock the same exact phone and FW/BL you are using, this may also lead to possible BL unlock later on, but may help you for now if you just trying to use a different carrier. Otherwise, yah, you are stuck for now, can't downgrade the bootloader. (As far as I know of yet)
Thanks for all of the advice and insight. Mucho appreciado.
My goal here is to purely load the non-carrier specific FW while maintaining my ability to use VZW and still have mmWave or UWB support. Also, VZW removed the ability to do "calls on other devices" like a Samsung tablet. That feature was removed on VZW FW but worked fine on an unlocked Note 20 Ultra that I had a few months back. Loading this G998U1 FW should make it act like a direct-from-Samsung phone, right? I don't really care about an unlocked BL or unlocked SIM slot, at the moment, as I'm staying with VZW. Thanks in advance!

Even if you're referring to your post from 10 hours ago:
Where you do think SamMobile and SamFW get the firmware from....???
They get it straight from Samsung's servers, using tools like Frija and others. So SamFW may not have uploaded it yet (as of the timestamp of your post from 10 hours ago), but if SamMobile already had it, then Frija definitely did - because that's always the first and earliest available firmware source, since it pulls straight from Samsung's servers
Thanks for everybody's help! I'm going to take the plunge here -- looking to download the modded/patched version of ODIN and flash this sucker. *fingers crossed*
If I flash this on my AT&T branded s21 ultra, will I lose any features?
This worked great on my VZW variant -> unbranded -- flash took about 3 minutes. I did do a factory reset prior to the ODIN flash just to ensure that Google or Samsung didn't have any weird reactivation-type lock on the device. Thanks again for the help!
As far as the Samsung "allow calls on other devices" option, that does NOT work on VZW, for whatever reason -- when I initiate a call via the S7 tablet, I get an error that essentially states that it "Can't Make Calls. Make sure that your phone and tablet are connected to the same wifi network." Huge bummer! I'll keep trying. I know that when I had an unlocked, direct from Samsung Note 10+ and the S6 tablet, this feature worked perfectly. Fast forward and I no longer have either device and it's not working. Any thoughts are welcomed!

Flashing from U to U1 will not remove the carrier lock. The lock must be removed by the carrier the phone was used with.

No. I would suggest contacting @mvikrant97 and see if he might be able to help, he does free FRP unlocking so I don't know if he can help with carrier unlocking.
It is possible that the original owner of the phone never contacted the carrier and asked them to unlock it. If you are able, you might want to contact the seller and see if they can.
