Hey guys, I've recently received an update [MIUI Global 12.5.1 Stable 12.5.1.0(RJCMIXM)] for my Redmi 9 (M2004J9G). & there's this new feature "Privacy & Protection" which promises to record device permission activities, turn on the privacy clipboard, save passwords. However, it doesn't do any of these. Please help me out.
While i do have 12.5.1 and settings/privacy protection
Im am not seeing what your video shows..i just get app permissions
Not a fancy screen about clipboard protection
When going to "settings/privacy" i see a new entry : Google service auto fill
Under it reads save your location/ credit card / adress
-i disabled it..i don't trust Google
Perhaps you have a beta fw? Or not in eu?

Hey guys! MIUI 9 have one feature which I would have in MIUI 10 namely carrier name in status bar.
In MIUI 10 carrier name is shown only in the look screen but in MIUI 9 carrier is shown everywhere.

I want 1 million dollars in my bank account!
Looks like they removed it.
If you wish to have this particular feature you'll have to make feature request in their forum and as far as I know they barely listen to users/customer with feature request(s).
There's less or no chance that they'll add it back as looking at thier history of removing feature and not adding it back.
They have removed so many useful features and not added back despite huge requests.
I am talking little off topic but worth mentioning.
There are so many useful requests from many users on their website are pending and they are mostly making their software with tons of advertisement and making inbuilt app requirements of needing user permission to contact, phone, message and other private information permissions such as weather app(maybe clouds going to call before they start raining)
Not to forget all MIUI apps have default internet connection turned on and can't be turn off and all MIUI apps collect user data and can be found this under settings-> additional setting-> authorization and revoke.
Additionally they don't get revoke many times despite trying for many times and have set 10 second waiting time so that user get frustrated and don't turn them off.
Hi, new Mi 9 is arriving in few days.
I am not interested (yet) in rooting or new firmware (unless it improves really a lot the experience).
But would be nice to remove bloatware and do some fixes.
Any guidance?
To debloat you can use this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/Mi-9/themes/xiaomi-mi9-debloat-root-root-t3910021
You can use "apps_packages Info" (from f-droid) to unistall even more on your own risk.
I'm on Xiaomi.eu Beta builds and get weekly updates. In my opinion it was a good upgrade from MIUI Global stable (stock camera was way better, fingerprint felt faster and it already removed a little bit bloatware).
Please be aware that's miui for the mi 9 still has software bugs. Check out the Mi 9 Global stable: collaborative bug collection thread: http://c.mi.com/thread-2325491-1-0.html

most of those bugs can be fixed by installing magisk modules/third party apps
for example automatic brightness and notifications
biggest issue for me is the always on display notifications... it leaves a lot to be desired
I never managed to get MMS/group messaging to work. On the stock MIUI messaging app, group messages were handled as mass SMS (and I received group messages as SMS from a single person). On google/android messages app, incoming MMS messages were simply dropped/disappeared with no way to recover them and I couldn't send images to a single recipient (SMS never converted to MMS)
Along with the missing notification bug, I gave up on the Mi 9 within a week. Will try again on Q!

also want to add that bluetooth headphones were unusable unless changing a setting in developer options, and even then the volume steps went from too quiet to too loud :/
I know it's not something you plan on doing right off the bat, but register now a xiaomi account so you can get your bootloader unlocked (they will make you wait for the code between 1 and 2 weeks). Many of those tweaks you talk about require such bootloader status and magisk rooting. Besides, you can always relock the bootloader if you want to, and you won't break your warranty if you ever unlocked it, this is not Samsung.
Hello! I have seen a lot of videos of youtubers showing the new notifications when an app uses your microphone, location and camera.
I will leave a picture attached i got from a website showing the features.
But as it turns out i dont seem to have it anywhere in settings.
Is this a China ROM only? As i am on Global EEA MIUI 12.
Thanks!
Probably lack of features
Probably China only.
So i was going around on Apkmirror, and see MIUI setting app. So i tried install the APK, and see the feature. Since it was China only, it's not fully translated yet. But i do see the feature. I can't test it to see if able to do it job yet so...
Edit: It's does work
Just got my first Mi device (11 ultra) on China rom. Anyone having problems refreshing outlook? I had changed all permissions to allow and still no dice. I also cannot find a way to disable the privacy protection all together, any hints? cheers
Answering my own question after going through all settings. Solved with turning on unrestricted data in special app access. I'd still love to get rid of this privacy protection though. It's too heavy
Thanks for sharing the findings .
This can be proven useful with other apps as well
Cheers !
As I wait for the global release of OxygenOS to flash my Chinese phone, I tried installing the new PUBG 2.0 beta to play a bit.
The phone is giving me an Ad plugin warning and once I confirm to Install anyway it's asking me to Verify your identity to confirm this.
This brings me to an account creation page for HeyTap (apparently an Oppo service) asking for a Phone number/Email address but when I try to input my email I get an error message Registering with an email is not supported. Please enter a mobile number instead.[11150...] that appears to be cut.
So basically to install a perfectly fine app I need to open an account with Oppo by providing my phone number. Are you kidding me??? ****tiest implementation ever. Can anyone confirm if this is also the case for OxygenOS?
Is OP not realizing that they're throwing down the drain their core values and advantages over other brands?
Hey mate. The fix is to go to your countries OPPO website, create an account and then use that email
