I'm wanting to root my phone, Figured while I was at it I'd try a new ROM, but I keep seeing people talking about something not working, camera, fingerprint reader ect. Are there any that are work perfectly? Or just stick with stock?

I'm on regular GSI 11, my fingerprint seems to work consistently and hotspot seems to work whenever I've used it. NFC Is still broken though. And since using GSI 11 (switched from stock Android 9), my battery feels like it's been dying a lot more quickly. I've heard someone mention about Arter causing battery problems, so I might try switching kernels.
I'd also love to know if there's a ROM that doesn't have any noticeable issues, otherwise I'm hoping the fixes for LineageOS 18.1 camera and torch will come soon or else GSI 12/LineageOs 19.

Is there any non OOS based ROM with a perfectly working fingerprint scanner and primary camera. Something that's really stable?
Everything you find in this forum is perfectly stable, maybe with the exception of MIUI.
Oneplus limited custom ROMs by not releasing sources that would make slow motion video, HDR and the "HQ" mode work. This means these are broken on all non OOS based ROMs.
The fingerprint scanner will also get a bit slower, but it's still gonna beat an iPhone.

Would you recommend the jump from oxygen OS at the expense of, what you state to be, worse low light performance, removal of features like slow motion videos and HDR, and the slowing of the fingerprint sensor... I suppose it depends if you use the camera then and enjoy the speed of your phone unlock?

This is totally wrong. MIUI Xs is the only non OOS rom where the camera works perfectly including auto-HDR, Slow Motion and HQ as it is based on H2Os. I am using this build and it even has ota support for miui weekly. Don't flash any other builds like wu or ruy09 etc. Use this build : https://mega.nz/#!H5xEEARQ!jIFx7bad4wBN3s1xXmEd6-8EQGQETMD9_EWsjYWMWSM

Aside from the fact that MIUI doesn't boot on my device, it should be pretty stable. I seriously couldn't care less about the camera as long as it screws my phone up.
I like MIUI. Believe me, I tried. I downloaded every single version I could find, flashed all of them, none of them booted. Flashed fine, but then black screen, white notification LED, computer recognized the phone as Qualcomm debug mode. Yeah...
Works for some, not for me. And I'm not alone with this.

Try this Version. Believe me .... DO a clean flash --> Wipe everything including internal memory and flash from adb sideload.
Make sure your file system is F2FS and not EXT4. Update to latest nougat OOS and then flash as said above !!
If u want I can show my miui by uploading a video to youtube !!

Since we use 7.1.1 blobs from openbeta3 on this unofficial op3t optimized lineage build most camera issue are gone - OnePlusCamera from openbeta3 is included additionally.
Fingerprint sensor was never an issue on these builds.

How did you manage to fix the fingerprint sensor issue? Every other LOS ROM has this issue.....:good:

Sounds strange. Is HDR working? Because I couldn't get it to work even on OOS based ROMs.

Honestly: I don't know. To my own surprise it was just working. The only remaining issue: if you want to add a fp, you need to wait for some seconds before starting to register new fp; otherwise the fps is working as home button.

HDR on back cam is working - no HDR on front cam. What's still missing is raw.
I'm no photographer and I lack a good judgment for stills. I suggest you take a nandroid and check yourself if the rom (especially the cam) matches your demands.

I tried, but just like on OOS based ROMs, I cannot tell the difference between HDR being on or off. That's despite me giving it a challenging lighting situation.
With my Nexus 5, HDR photos had no EXIF info. At least no things such as ISO, exposure time. With the OP3T, I have full EXIF, which shouldn't be possible, because the whole point of HDR is that I don't have a single ISO value and a single exposure time value.
Due to the EXIF situation and the fact that I cannot tell a difference between pictures with HDR on and off, I concluded that it is not working. Am I the only one with this problem?
Can someone upload pictures taken back to back, where one was taken with HDR on and the other with HDR off?

There's a work around for this. Use on screen nav bar. And then register all your fingerprints. Turn it off afterwards if you don't want.

I think waiting some seconds is the better (aka faster) workaround: changing to onscreen nav bar and reverting back takes about 10ms. Waiting for 5 s takes 5 s... Just a matter of peesonal taste. Work around the workaround...
I had been on FreedomOS or stock OxygenOS for most of my time with the OP3T (though I used RR briefly) but I recently decided to give Paranoid Android a try. I'm having some Bluetooth issues there so I was planning to go back to FreedomOS, but I've noticed that the proximity sensor during a call works much better on PA than on any OOS ROMs. On OOS the screen will intermittently turn back on causing me to hang up or mute the call while on PA the screen stays dark while it is against my face.
Is there any way, I assume with root, to tweak this behavior in an OOS-based ROM?

this happened to me all the time on OOS too, even when I turned off double tap to wake (which I thought was the issue).
Any reason you want to go back to OOS? I'm on NOS right now and couldn't be happier!

Yeah, my wife has the issue with her OP5 as well. I thought it was just an issue with the proximity sensors OnePlus uses but apparently it's their software.
I've had trouble with Bluetooth on every AOSP-based ROM I've tried (RR, LOS, PA). Bluetooth works fine once connected, but it will often fail to autoconnect. On OOS, my phone will automatically connect to my car when I start it up while on AOSP-based ROMs I often (~60% of the time) need to go to the settings menu and manually connect.
Double post, sorry.

Gotcha, I know on nougat ROMs there was a port of the Google dialer and the dialer framework. I wonder if you could find a port for that at all. I'm not sure if the proximity sensor code is in the dialer framework or if it's deeper in the system.

I'm using Google Dialer on OOS and I'm experiencing screen flashing as well, I think this is OOS fault itself.
ive tried this function in different roms, whether eui based or aosp and it seems not work right in anything. either theres an echo that makes it unusable or the camera just doesnt seem to wanna work. Not sure what the problem is but its pretty frustrating, if anyone has a solution id def like to know

Can't help you then. One of the reasons why I like this phone is that you can enjoy the superior hardware while fixing any software issues (which you can be sure to expect) because it's so easy to root

Strange indeed, I think it was a bug exclusive to the EU ROM , perhaps intentional to make battery life longer

I think may be the sensor was blocked by dust or somethings but dont know where is that sensor. When i go to CIT menu, light sensor test passed
Hello,
although the developers are very active and we are getting there, my question is whether there's a ROM that is "complete" at the moment.
With that, I mainly mean the 100% working fingerprint sensor. With that, I mean a ROM that doesn't 100% brightness while using fingerprint reader and that has a functional fingerprint reader when screen is turned off (ie. wakes the phone)?
I am excited about the recent developments, however, I am just looking for a smooth experience for the time being
Thanks again to all the hard working developers.
At the moment, I think the only one that does not light up the screen (not tested by me) is Statix, BUT, apparently the screen needs to be at at least 40% brightness for the fingerprint scanner to work.
You can try all of these and chose the best one for you
(Lineage(18.1/19), OmniRom, StatixOS, ArrowOS (no longer supported, the unit of the maintainer ramdump-ed.))
I haven't tried Statix yet. Good time to try.

Does this mean that fingerprint doesn't wake the phone either?
I currently have Los19, wasn't able to get 18.1 working. Haven't tried OmniRom, but I've tried ArrowOS and it wasn't bad.
Thanks for the pointers! Does anyone know what's the reason everyone is having problems with the scanner?
