So I use this app Side Actions to remap my side buttonz but it works by basically taking over when bixby is called by pushing the side button, and that requires you to go through bixby setup before it will work. But on my brand new s21 ultra, holding and double pressing the side button does not call bixby, it does nothing. On further investigation in noticed that the app info in settings says it's disabled, and the button is greyed out so I can't click on, but the greyed out button says enable, not disable? But when I look at it from the list view, it says it's disabled there. How can I activate bixby?
Not sure why you want little Bixby but start by uninstalling the app that killed it.
If it altered hidden settings a factory reset may be needed.
You might want to read the EULA for Bixby too before you happily agree to it
I don't want Bixby, I can't stand it. That's why I'm remapping the bixby button to do something else...and this app. Didnt "kill it" it was already disabled prior to using this app,but I'm not sure if it was disabled from the moment I turned the phone on, or ifnit was after restoring my smart switch backup, but I know on my old phone that made the backup Bixby was not disabled

Not sure what you want but I see part of the problem.
SmartSwitch isn't that smart; it has a tendency to goof things up when going between different models especially with settings. Don't.
It works ok if the backup is for the same device, maybe... I don't trust it. I remember Kies
I make sure all critical data is backed up not with SmartSwitch.
Well it's from an s20 ultra to an s21 ultra. Yes I know still different model. But ud think it'd be close enough to not screw things up? Otherwise what's the point?
And I want to be able to enable bixby. Not because I want to use bixby, but because this app basically needs to take over when bixby is launched via the side button. As it is now, I have my side key settings set to "launch bixby" for long press (which is what the app says it needs to be set to to function properly) but since bixby is disabled, it does nothing when I hold the side button
It all worked fine of my s20

Not when transferring from the S20 to the S21... different model. It will likely screw up.
It may also fail unexpectedly for the same device...

I leave the volume turned up 100% on my phone, always, and hate when I discover it has been turned down somehow accidentally.
On my old Motorola flips, I would literally take them apart and cut the connection to the volume down button so that I could turn it up all the way and forget about it.
I figured that in the Android world there would be an app that effectively does the same thing. I did find a couple, but none seem just right. One that looked perfect doesn't work on the S4 Active, some are far too bloated for my simple needs, others run constantly in the background...
I am rooted. Is there a mod I can do to just disable or re-assign the the volume down button and be done with it?
Thanks!
Im looking for the some app/mod. I was using a "volume control +" but it doesn't work on my sgs4 active
I'm using Viper4androidfx, works very well on S4A.

im using Ultimate Dynamic Navbar because when i replaced the screen on my note 4 i accidentally got too close to the buttons and cut the recent and back buttons. so they no longer work. i completely removed the buttons since i cut them. everything else works fine but for some reason when im charging the phone something is causing the back or recents button to be pressed. this only happens when im charging the phone and have the screen on. how can i disable the buttons? i already tried to do the Generic.kl commenting out (putting a # infront of each line) but that did not help (unless im not entering the the # on the correct line) and it didnt help. i still get the recent apps while charging the phone and the screen is on. anyone know of a way to disable it with another method?

Well I know that an xposed module called Xposed Additions can do it. Hopefully that will work in your case.

i tried gravity box for Lollipop on the PACMAN rom which kinda helps. the thing is that the buttons seem to have swapped so im guessing its because of the rom. before it kept pressing the recents button now its pressing the back button. i also was able to see what was going on action wise as in long presses or double taps with gravity box. it seems that long presses is the most frequent cause of this issue but i also get a few double taps and single taps randomly. i tried to select no action for these events on the back button with half luck. gravity box does not have a do nothing action so the only thing i could do was do a custom action without selecting an app. but when it gets triggered i get a toast saying no such app, due to no app selected in gravity box. this is something ill bring up to the devs of gravity box. ill check out your suggestions and will reply back with the results, THANKS FOR THE REPLY!

Yeah. Seems Xposed Additions will work then. It has actions for both Click and Long Press for all the hardware buttons with the Screen On/Off. It's basically a mod to do just that...remap the buttons or disable.
I use it to disable the Home button while the screen is off. Also to use the volume buttons for skipping songs while screen is off.

the only issue with it was that it would not save the settings when i restarted. but i did use it to see what key value back was and put a # in it and restarted. seems to have worked so far. i wonder why the additions wont stick after a reboot. hopefully if this works ill be able to choose which on screen buttons to select from the pacmans/gravity box or ultimate dynamics. each has its pros and cons.
Are there any solutions to disable volume and power button in lockscreen? I know there's an app which *tries* to hide the power menu, that doesn't seem to be secure enough, since long pressing still shuts down the phone.
Recently lost a phone (and successfully retrieved it, thanks to surveillance camera). The phone in question was secured with lockscreen, and it came back factory reset, ready to be sold in stolen phone market, which led me to finding ways upping my phone security.
Now, suppose I have tracker apps installed on my Note 5, it would rely on WiFi or mobile network to be traceable, and so far the only loophole I can find is:
1. Wrap the phone in tinfoil, all signal is lost.
2. Blocks speaker with thumb to muffle any alarms I set off
3. Rush home before I enable any alarms or track location, get connected to PC and start tinkering with stuff.
4. Keeps screen on until battery dies.
5. Or, just simply hold the power button.
With the Note 5, taking out the battery is out of question, which is a good thing in this case, (although not so good for a bricked phone with dead power button).
So, the next sensible option is to turn off the phone by long pressing power button, which is not exactly a hard thing to do.
Any other ideas would be appreciated. (I still don't fully understand how hard/easy it is to factory reset the phone with lockscreen on.)
You can disable power button on lock screen through an option in Wanam xposed or GravityBox.
But you can not prevent combo buttons to force phone turn off/reboot like Power + Volume down
I recently had my Note 7 stolen (yes, I still had the original Note 7) and I just got a Note 8. I made it so the phone can't be turned off and disabled the power off and restart buttons using a package disabler. I did this for the sole purpose of making the phone be more capable of being tracked, with my last stolen phone being simply shut off and all.
However, there's still a way of disabling the tracking if someone knew how. If they put it on Emergency Mode (which still shows if you hold down the power button via the lock screen) the phone will no longer send or receive data as long as the screen is off. I've tried to track it this way and it will not show on the map if it is in Emergency Mode. How do I disable this button and what is the package name for it if it has one? The fact that someone can still turn my GPS off even from my lock screen annoys me. There must be a way around this. So if anyone knows the package name to disable this or some other way to turn this off that'd be great, thanks.
I have Cerberus and in the settings there is an option to block power button, so when pressed nothing happens, no way to turn emergency mode on as the menu doesn't come up.

This issue has been driving me mad for the past couple weeks. I'm at my wits' end and I need some expert help to figure this out. Please read this post thoroughly to understand my situation, as this is not a simple matter of uninstalling some apps.
When I first got my Note 9, the screen lock button worked perfectly. The screen would immediately turn on when I pressed the button, and it would immediately turn off when I pressed it again. However, once I got the Android Pie update, the screen lock button stopped working properly. The screen still turns on immediately, but there's about a 0.5 second delay after I press the button to turn it off. It's a relatively small issue, but it's enough to bother me.
I attempted to fix this by performing a system reset. But this did not help. In fact, this issue is still present even before completing initial setup of the phone.
When you perform a system reset, the first screen you see when your phone restarts is the welcome screen. It contains a "start" button that you press to begin setup. On this screen, the lock button issue does not happen. My phone locks and unlocks correctly. On the next screen, you connect to a wifi network. After connecting to a wifi network, the lock button issue becomes present. In other words, this issue with the lock button is present before I even start using the OS, or install any apps, or really do anything at all. It seems to be triggered by connecting to a wifi network during setup.
So I figured there must be something wrong with the firmware. So I used Odin to flash an earlier firmware version. This did not solve the issue. I even tried installing an unlocked firmware version, on the offchance that my carrier (AT&T) was doing something weird. This did not help either.
I have no idea where to go from here. I thought that a system reset is supposed to completely wipe everything from your phone, so that it behaves exactly how it did when I first got it. But that's not the case. It seems like something is carrying over that's causing this issue. Does anybody have any idea what I should do?
Do you have lock instantly with power key on?

It is probably the double tap power button to open camera feature. You can toggle it off and locking will be instant.
If its already off, there my be an accessibility service listening key presses.

This delay issue is so silly but it annoys the hell out of me. Where did you turn off this feature in Pie?
Update: Found it. Just use the search box in settings and type in "camera" (or whatever it is in your language). The "double tap power" setting will get listed.
Thanks alot,
Watz
I even turned off the double press for camera app but I'm still noticing a 0.5 sec lag when i press the side key
I even restarted after changing the setting
Nothing is happening
Please help
