The Galaxy S21 Ultra (SM-G9980) has just received a big (1GB) new software update.
The security patch still from August.

If you can see the new cpu performance setting on device care (with the option: maximum, instead of just: balanced and high), so you officially got the features of OneUI 3.1.1 (like international users).
They're screwing you up, this update is all about installing spyware and ****, that's why they didn't even think about changing the description.
^ wow! that's the most morose take i've ever seen for a fw update
Doesn't seem to have the cpu performance setting, it still just shows adapative and enhanced processing options only....
from what i have read it removes ads from samsung apps

I am not quite sure where this could be find, but is it this option as in the screenshot?
I'm having way way less standby drain with this update, I like it a LOT!
And yes I have the SM-G9980

It is still there yes but also less than before I think. And yes it doesn't eat up that much battery. It is now exactly on par with my SD865 S20 Ultra. Which is good.

Anyway you still haven't this option (enhanced processing is just a toggle in your case, meanwhile in mine is another page with 3 options)

Guess Samsung will add it again with the newer update, always based on 3.1 but with some features taken from 3.1.1.

Heh that was a drunken joke about people being paranoid about updates.
I actually never update Windows after the initial install because it ****s with my finely tuned settings, always ends up costing me latency, but it's mostly the opposite on Android.

I'm curious about those 3 power options affecting the overall performance of the CPU, could someone run Geekbench5 on all 3? I'd give it some time space in between to cool the phone down for each test. Thanks in advance.

Yeah I had never even opened the app beforehand, but in the past couple of days I've been smashing that update button in the app and it just says that I'm on the latest version available, emui 8.0. So I can only guess that there's still some waiting left to be done

That's awesome, has the speed of the phone really increased? I'm pretty curious since Huawei has been talking about the ark compiler and stuff. Also, are the animations very laggy? I don't want to bother you lol if you don't feel like answering that's fine

Is all good man. Everything definitely feels a little quicker and snappier. Only thing I'm not too keen on right now is the icons for phone signal and WiFi have moved to the left of the bar and can't see where to change it. Overall though, a positive experience :good:
Got it
This morning. FIG-LX1, Italy, was in beta program.
Since EMUI 9.1 (FIG-LX1 in Italy) I have noticed:
- less RAM available in daily use (first around 1.7-1.8 on average, now around 1-1.3)
- the only wifi I use is at home, but now Wi-Fi + does not automatically turn off wifi when I leave home and don't wake it up when I come back (yes with EMUI 8)
- the Facebook app does not hide notifications in the notifications section (at the moment it seems so, but when the app is reopened there are still all of them)

Ok, so basically transition are smoother. Camera might be better and less noisy of my experience, i have to test some more. Need more time for battery test. Heating is no issue, i live in Kuwait btw. Performance test on geekbench seems less than before, need more testing. Will test games further today and let you all know. Selfie for me are much better and less noise (would have shared but I'm ugly af). Anything you guys need to know??

Updated 4 hours ago,

you definitely must wipe cache at least, or reset the phone, since obviously you have some kind of conflicts in software; update is very ok
Maybe, but i don't know how to start in recovery on this phone.
And now overheating is gone but camera is working only when i start in safety mode.

Model : SM-G998B | Region : VOD | Samsung Firmware Database

just installed here in UK - i wonder what they improved/changed at 1.2 GB - thats huge
only thing i noticed - the weather app - has some mix of old icons and new (?) cartoonish icons in the city list - looks like its been made in word art - 94 edition - i really dk why they cant give the stock weather app more love?!!!!
You can post what you feel about the update here .
For me
1) qr code in camera app is way faster
2) camera doesnt heat up the phone now
3) gaming also runs cooler
4) animations are better
5) expect an sot of 1h more than you got with april update.
Looking for more changes ..
Tell me in comment .
I think samsung is doing a great job ,
I was about to trade off my s21 ultra with mi 11 ultra , but this update has stopped me doing so.
I can't wait until my phone recieve the update.
This is so promising that samsung still fixing and adding new features every month.
I would say a 10% better everything even though it might be a placebo. All running smooth. Used the camera a lot today for pics and videos. Youtube, browsing and etc, and now 3:33 SOT and battery at 46%. I guess that may be a tad better than before. Camera seems better too somehow.

I think they are moving towards apple kind of ecosystem and software.
And if they can do that , i am not leaving samsung for as long as they maintain that .
They still need to work on animations , accidental touches, and 60-120 hz management in some apps

First full day with May's update. I did a clean install via Odin since it was the second update in a row of over 1GB.
Everything is running smoothly. Battery I think is maybe 5-10% better but have to give it a few days. Can't comment on the camera yet. Usage is on WiFi, 120Hz, FHD+.

Try Frija, its very fast to download it.
wise advice. I only use one time to install PHE before change CSC, then always wait for OTA
OKay, will wait it out then. Last month I received the update on April 9th; so this time I presume it will be similarly timed.
I'm able to achieve 10hours Sot (48 hours cycle) on this release, prior to that the sot was in the 8/9 hours. I mostly use browser, youtube, youtube music and ocasional gaming (Wild Rift)
On Vodafone model in UK so I expect it will be a couple of weeks before I get this but it sounds like it makes what is already one of the best phones money can buy even better.
Great to see Samsung get the Exynos up to near Snapdragon levels of quality at last.
Unlocked exynos UK here, no sign of the update yet. I've read it improves the shutter response, which would be great!

Here's mine. I have most battery intensive options on though, like 120 fps and such.
Bananablob debloated?
Yes, on latest MIUI Mix. I'm debloated in the sense that the rom is pre debloated itself.
Also, I'd be surprised if a few bloatwares would reduce a performance score that much.
What adjustments do you suggest ?

Just tonight 4/27/23...got my update -- watch is SM R920. Post update, Software version is R920XXU1AWB1 System version 11, Wear ver 3.5 Wear core services 1.4.69.512673544. Update took about 20 minutes after the download. Seems like SpO2 is better than before, used to have to measure it with a finger now it appears to work on my wrist. I can (so far) find nowhere that body temperature is available or enabled. As a side note I am in Ecuador FWTW as far as regional settings/restrictions go.
Couple notes. Reboot after the last reboot thats part of the software update is a must. Trying to do anything without a manual reboot on mine was very laggy. The reboot helped. Seems on mine that SpO2 and ECG are definitely better but on stress and SpO2 the display seems a little laggy......also when charging the time display, batt % and time to full are different than before, larger and at center screen, something I personally like. Also note that the security patch is 2023-04-01.

So is mine, but mine is AWD6
This is truly weird. When I did the post mine was AWB1. Now it shows AWD6 same as what you see. thanks for this info. I am reading...and was reading...the information from the Galaxy Wearable app on the phone. Truly amazing. Without your kind reply I never would have spotted this.
Regards and thanks again.
An addendum. I have thin wrists, have always had problems with SpO2 since purchase....to the point where I finally gave up trying to read it with the watch on my wrist. Reading SpO2 with the watch on the same finger I use my monitor on....the watch would agree within a point. Before the update when it would read at all it would consistently be sometimes 5 points off. Since the update the watch so far reads reliably on my wrist and is within a point of the monitor. Additionally the watch seems more reliable reading ECG than before less poor reading messages with the necessity to read ECG again. Only thing I wish is the temperature sensor was enabled in the new update. Otherwise most excellent so far from Samsung. Will be interesting to see how battery life compares.

Yes, but do you actually have in settings option to "predict using skin temp"?
Cause I bet like me (also running WDA on Watch 5 Pro) you don't have that option even if you select Cycle Tracking which men don't use.
