Hello Folks,
I was a proud owner of a mate 7 (my first huawei) then I jumpe to a S6 Edge Plus, I missed the great battery and the better software (IMO, I hate touchwiz) but the phone was sluggish after a while, really sluggish to the extent that opening the dialer took a few seconds, I Had to reset it every now and then, but the S6 Edge Plus was much better in every department except the battery, I am getting bored of it after 1 year and thinking of going back to Huawei with the P9 Plus,I know the Mate 9 is here and the P10 is soon to come, but these will be totally out of my budget, I can simply trade my S6 Edge Plus for a P9 Plus now with a small exchange.
I've seen the reviews, I know how the P9 Plus stands against my S6 Edge Plus, but I am afraid of the sluggishness that plagued my mate 7, Also according to GSMARENA the Exynos is a much better battery saver all around, the P9 Plus battery is suffering bad in their test (69h compared to 83h).
I really like the design of the black P9 Plus and would like to have stereo speakers along with the dual lens and 3D Touch features, but I am afraid I might be sidegrading not upgrading, What do you think?

I have been using the p9 plus for 5 months now and never did I I encounter any sluggishness so far. I know the mate 7 might have that problem as I have own it previously too but that was probably due to the lower performance of the gpu so whenever u run something that is gpu related or run it in the background, it may affect the performance . But so far I can only say huawei is doing a very good job on improving everything on their flagship. I run all the apps without ever kill them in the multitasking windows, which I found them to be maximum 20 nos. in total and everything still run smooth and fast without any sluggishness. I never use Samsung previously but I did bought a galaxy s3 mini for my brother and after some while it became super lagging and even hang still. I tot that might be due to lower performance as well (since it is few years back product) but from what I heard from my friends even other series with higher performance such as s4, note 5 have that problem too. I also know that a lot of galaxy users complaint abt it's lagging and hang problem so I will nv consider Samsung. But for huawei, especially the p series and mate series, I never heard anybody complaint abt this problem so it is always my first and only choice. As for battery life, it's really hard to say, some say it is Mich better that Samsung, or even iPhone 6 plus, since I never use them before ,I can only say the p9 plus battery seems very good to me. I have been running 11 background apps all the while (which means the setting "keep running after screen off") of which most of them are power intensive apps, keep opening apps without killing it in the multi task windows, and it gives me a 4 plus hours sot moderate usage and it is just enough for me to last one whole day from 8am to 10 pm. And now I installed an app call "night mod" and I reduce the screen brightness by 40% and I got the sot of 8 plus hours heavy usage. So it's really quite enough for me. As for sluggishness, no, I don't think u will face it on p9 plus
By the way, I really think u should consider p10 plus since it is just out and seems like a lot of it have been improved especially with the new summilux leica lens camera.
So i have now the note 4 ... I know an old runner
But it's an amazing phone
And of course, I need to upgrade
There's a deal for note 9 for about 660$
But the problem is Exynos version
I searched allot and i think i am depressed
I can't make a decision
I wanted the snapdragons version it's not available anywhere i live
And there is no option except the (one plus 6t) and it is near the same price
I think every advantage go to Samsung
The display the camera The mic the vibration motor
Just the processor is the advantage to the OnePlus and the 2gig of ram
But again it's Exynos and i read allot of thing about the performance and the battery drain with allot of benchmark and test
I play games ((pubg)) especially
Can you advise me ..?
How is the phone after pie update?
And did you play games...how was the performance?
I consider my self heavy user
I don't know what to do i think my head is melting ....these a big thing to me i don't change my phone often
And Samsung was good with me in the note serice
But the SOC is very frustrated
Thanks and sorry for my English
Hello everyone, I am a huge Samsung fan (not a fanboy though) I use whatever feels right and I always have 2 phones. Currently note 9 and an iPhone ... iPhone was a mistake so looking to trade it with a new Android and I thought it will be the s10 but .....
does anyone else thinks mate 20 pro was and still better buy than s10 series?
I mean triple cameras, but with a main 40mp sensor 3x optical zoom and dedicated night mode and super macro mode in mate 20 pro? Given that videos are much worse than a budget phone from Samsung but it also offer that crazy cinematic video effects.
Mate 20 has the wireless projection to a TV Which is a big step over DEX.
Day to day use, the SOCs will perform similar, even snapdragon 845 still a beast.
Battery with no doubt will be better on Huawei phone, it always was and will always be
Reverse wireless charging is there already, Dolby Atmos also, dark UI mode on Huawei phones since mate 10 for over a year now
EMUI sucks big time and one UI is actually my favorite Android skin now , even better than vanilla Android but is it an enough reason to go for it ??

I never been with Huawei before. But I do know Megapixel is a gimmick. If the camera software is not good, all these megapixels are nothing but more storage space.
You could have a 58mgp camera sensor and if it's not implemented correctly (software controlled) then it's just a higher number. For example 12gb ram well there is absolutely no need for it, Android and apps will never need that, so it's a high number without any practicality.
It's marketing to some degree also, higher numbers are better right, 12gb ram, 58mgp camera ect.
So if you wish to be fooled look to the Pixel with a 12mgp single lens that shows clearly my point.

EMUI will trigger a slow descent into madness. It's quite a frustrating experience. The aggressive app management is great for the battery life but a terrible user experience. AOD is frustratingly useless and don't get me started on notifications. A nightmare... The wireless desktop thingy is a cool party trick and the camera can be great. It's not as consistent as the pixel's. I would streer clear if I were you.

I have had a couple of Huawei phones and wouldn't touch one again ever. While EMUI was one factor, the main reason is lack of support in the US. They are a pretty popular phone overseas though.

Watch Mr Whostheboss video on the battery comparison, between s10+ and p20pro.
The s10+ lasts longer than the p20 pro by quite some time.
How about we all embrace the fact that smaller companies have been rising to compete with current flagships. Competition is a good thing, without it nobody would create anything new. Take a look at the iPhone vs Android. Granted, the iPhone does compete with Android but nowhere near the same level Android competes with other Android phones.

Thanks I did, in the same video note 9 outperformed the iPhone max, witch is not the case with my usage and it makes sense since normal day to day use phone ain't always in our hands and standby time is much better on an iphone. These looping battery tests doesn't always make sense
By the way the lense size itself is huge on the mate 20 compared to s10 not only megapixel count
Got the mate 20 pro Thanks, got it for almost 550$ ... Couldn't resist the deal.
software wise it sucks big time. UI and navigation feels like an unfinished iOS clone ! Samsung one UI is much much better
Hardware is freaking awesome so far. Over 3 hours SOT with 68% left, app management is very flexible not that bad and it's blazing fast and smooth, camera is great and much better results than note and iPhone
I think most will have seen the early benchmarks showing the Snapdragon considerably outperforms the Exnyos version of the device in terms of speed and battery life.
My question is, is this still the case? Or have they managed to close the gap between them?
I don't really game very much so my main concerns to be honest are battery life, scrolling smoothness, overall performance more than high FPS in games.
many thanks ?
I think they will not differ much in normal usage and the exynos s10 is still very smooth with me till today specially while using FHD resolution
I also don't game at all frankly.

That's good to hear. I don't want to upset anyone with the Exnyos variant, it's just frustrating that for basically the same price the USA gets the snap dragon and the rest of us get a solution which seems to be a little worse in every way. I wouldn't mind so much if it had better battery life or better performance in some other area.
Maybe I should stop thinking that way and just remember that it's still a strong performer.

back in the note 4 days, the exnyos version was better in terms of battery life and cpu performance, but was worse in gpu.
No one is locked in to a certain device. You have the option to purchase the Snapdragon Hong Kong variant on Ebay which has a number of advantages over the US Snapdragon. The bootloader can be unlocked, dual SIM's, less bloatware and more telco frequency options. You lose the warranty, which I've never needed, since Samsung's quality issues are almost non existent. The Exynos variants may seem to have similar performance but it doesn't stack up to the Snapdragon SoC.
In my opinion I wouldn't worry too much. I came from a snapdragon 845 S9+ to an Exynos S10. With S9+ I could run every app and game fluently. No lag at all in android "Samsung experience". I ran Antutu benchmark on both phones and Exynos S10 have higher points than S9+ (CPU and GPU)
So, does it really matters that S855 is better than new Exynos when S845 could do anything and new Exynos is better than that?
We are at a point where numbers are getting higher but it really doesn't matter in real life. And Exynos have something that snapdragon doesn't and it is better developer's support (ROMS, mods, root, custom recovery, etc). So, Exynos is a win for me.
PD: S9+ is an excellent phone. I switched to S10 because my father wanted the S9+. Then I got S10 in a good sale wich is an excellent phone too: more ram, 64 vs 128 gb storage, little better CPU/GPU, little better more tunned camera, extra wide camera, more screen body relation, almost the same battery in a smaller phone, single SIM vs double SIM card (depends on your version) and it was cheaper for me because I got it in a good deal.
Enjoy you Exynos S10 and don't worry about the snapdragon version. It is an superb phone.
Exynos FTW!!
exynos speed takes a beating
I know I had the exynos s10+ sold it for the TGY version
tmobile speed has been steller
I missed the exynos roms and support but SD model is getting there too
plus we haave a fully working Gcam bam lol
Would you say that the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is "fast" in day-to-day use? A higher rating indicates that you think the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra exhibits fantastic performance. Like, is it as fast as your tears when you watch The Titanic?
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
It does feel very fast in overall speed. I think this is due to the 5G and 120hz display. Some app used to hang for a couple seconds waiting on data, but with increased download speed there is no waiting.
After a few hours I returned the Note 20 Ultra, compared it side to side with my OnePlus 8 Pro and it just disappointed me. The exynos is constantly being outperformed by the Qualcomm 865 in my OnePlus device.
Really a shame because I loved the design and really wanted to jump back on the Samsung train.
I know everyone's case is different. I've upgraded from a Note 10+ 512GB ATT snapdragon version to the same ATT equivalent of Note 20 ultra 512GB and I have to be honest. I don't even game and I feel a significant difference in speed in everyday tasks. Everything loads noticeably faster, finger print scanner is faster, 120hz refresh rate is noticeably faster. My sign ins into my banking and other apps is faster. I feel like it gets better reception and the stereo speakers are louder and clearer. The screen is insanely bright. If I feel this difference coming from a relatively new flagship I don't understand the ppl that aren't that impressed coming from the likes of a Note 8, which to be fair I've also had. While the likes of a Note 8 was incredible relative to when it came out now making the comparison between the two devices is like comparing iPhone 11 pro to the iPhone 6s max

Well....
5G T-Mobile is definitely faster than when I bought the S20 Ultra.
The movement within the app is lightning fast...either with adaptive Motion or with WQHD (all animations at "0" in Development Settings). Honestly I don't notice that much difference between those two although there is one.
Ridiculous speed. Literally could not be faster. Between 120Hz, insane processor, and some animation tweaks... Wowzers. Mind = blown.
Flawless! But demoted 1 atar since I know Samsung is holding back some other areas by using the same 990 exynos that S20 models had.
3D Mark benchmark
I received my Ultra yesterday. SnapD HK version.
3D marked it. Attached results here.
Nice, from wondamobile?

Note 20 ultra is only slightly better than the Note 10+ in pretty much ever way but significantly much better when it comes to reception. I have solid reception in places where the Note 10+ had zero cell coverage. Also the phone call clarity and loudness is significantly better on the 20 ultra.
Does anybody own OnePlus 8 Pro and Note 20 Ultra? I am curious how the everyday use of these 2 devices compare? Is Note considerably slower?

I had the Note 20 Ultra ( Exynos ) for one day besides the OnePlus 8 Pro. Don't get me wrong I stepped away from Samsung after many years, had most S and Note series but felt I missed out due to the Exynos CPU and missed the S-Pen.
When the OnePlus 8 Pro got announced I decided to give it a go and so far I'm very impressed. However I do miss the S-Pen and the overall video quality from Samsung. My Note 9 delivers better video and specially audio quality.
I wanted to cross back to Samsung and Pre-ordered the Note 20 Ultra.
After a day of use I returned the Note because it actually felt a step back instead of forward. The Exynos doesn't deliver anywhere close to the SD865. The overall smoothness and scrolling feel is not as smooth and display wasn't ( for me ) as crisp as the one in the OP8Pro.
An example is the Note 20 Ultra stutters when scrolling through Gmail / FB / Chrome while the OP8Pro scrolls smoothly.
Also the speaker output wasn't what I expected, my Note 9 even sounds better. Delivering a deeper sound quality.
For now ( besides the S-Pen ) I would choose the OP8Pro over the Note 20 Ultra. BUT I'm sure this all comes down to the Exynos vs Snapdragon CPU.
I'm actually thinking about importing a Note 20 Ultra to get a Qualcomm version.

Camera on the Note 20 Ultra Exynos felt better but to be honest I didn't get the chance to test video ( or better audio quality on recorded videos ) shooting videos of live music.

I also think you're right but Samsung flagships in Exynos region don't feel like they can too the Qualcomm devices. It just doesn't feel as smooth. Also the Note 20 Ultra I had seemed to lag compared to the OP8Pro.
On the camera side the OP8Pro doesn't stand a chance , even videos recorded on my Note 9 have better audio quality.
Still I have to say the Note 20 Ultra didn't feel as premium as I expected. Speakers don't sound that premium, display doesn't look that premium and if I add that to the battery ( didn't get the chance to test it myself ) or the lack of it based on reviews I'd say the Note 20 Ultra ( Exynos variant ) isn't that premium at all. At least not for the introduction price.
Man I'm starting to sound like a Sammy hater.......however I'm still a fan. Just hoping they will deliver in the future.
Compared to note 10 plus this phone is better in every way. Virtually no lags. I was very skeptical about 120 hz, I was pretty sure I won't feel any difference... and I was so wrong! It's night and day difference! Probably the only thing that did not change for me is the battery life.. 5-6 hours SOT...
In developer settings, I changed the animation settings from 1.0 to 0.5 after using my Note 20 Ultra for a week and this thing really flies now. Much faster than my old Note9 I traded in (which also had the animation settings lowered)
Performance is good (not game) but warm
