Hello, I have XZ3 dual h9493 which has written images at the background notification screen which reads "STORE SAMPLE, NOT FOR SALE and also TECH SPECS >, AUDIO> CAMERA>, DISPLAY etc...
The phone works perfectly, ota updates works fine, but my problem is, I can't remove that text images from the background, it is seen on every page I go...
I updated, flashed but still can't be removed...
Is there any way to get rid of that that text image...?
Thanks...
This is OLED panel burn-in. Without replacing your screen, you can't do anything.

Ok...
Those burned images get hidden in black themed apps but seen in sony's default dark theme and any dark theme app...
Only black theme apps seems to hide it...
UUnlocking bl and installing substratum might help..??
It's not software dependent, this is hardware problem. On black background and apps you won't see burn-in, but on any white/light background they will be always visible. Only solution is to change the screen.

Hey guys,
I've got a brand new HTC Touch Diamond. On certain screens in particular the Contacts, Messaging, SMS or the screen to select the Avatar for farvourite People, there seems to be a colour gradient on the screen in that the right portion of my screen is towards the grey shade wherelse the left portion is whiter in colour. Is this part of the theme or a standard feature or is this a defect on my unit?
The thing is I don't get this issue on the 'Align Screen' screen which has a similar white background, nor do I get this gradient on Program and Settings menus.
Could someone please help me confirm?
Thanks.
Cheers.
*bump*
Pls help???
I called HTC regarding this issue and they told me it's just part of the graphics theme but I'm not entirely convinced though...
Thanks.

You could try taking a screenshot and copy that to your computer. If the gradient appears there then its a part of the graphics in the theme.. But if it does not appear on the screenshot on the pc. then you can consider it as a failure.
I checked contacts (touchflo) -> all people (left softkey), and yeah there's a slight gradient from white to a very very light grey. (Going from left to right)
Thanks so much for the great help guys..... I'll take a screenshot later just to confirm the issue....
A simple test is, go to settings > today,...and change theme to Windows Mobile Default / Green. See if the light grey change to fade blue / green?
I can confirm 99.9% is the theme....
it is normal....

Thanks. Yes I've tried that before starting this thread. The gradient does follow the theme colour but I thought it was a backlight issue.. i.e. that portion of the screen not lit properly hence it appears darker regardless of the theme's colour.

then you fire up word mobile, and create a new document.
You should have a full white background......
crash74:
Yes tried that.. I don't get the gradient on white pages such as the 'Align Screen' page, documents, IE, even the b/g of Programs and Settings looks perfect.
So it's safe to assume I don't have to send my unit back for warranty yeah? I just wanted to be sure before sticking my invisibleSHIELD on
btw, what screen/body protector are you using? I might have a spare invisibleSHIELD if you're interested.

That should be the theme issue....
you can try UITweaker,
go to TdyScheme Changer > change all the 4 list(left 1 & 2 + right 1 & 2) color to white...
cheers,...
I tried taking the a few screenshots and yes the gradient is there when viewed from the PC as well although less apparent. But yeah it's definitely the theme then.
When I was on the phone with HTC the girl also advised me to have my phone sent in to be checked... until I asked her "shouldn't you confirm this isn't normal before we proceed further"? lol
So i have been trying to get a black background that is truly black.
everything i have tried has left a slight hue on the background. back 2 black is not supported or i would have tried that.
is there any way to get background to remain off completely and only light the pixels for the icons, clock, notification etc etc. i notice the info bar at the top is darker than my black background and no matter what i cant get the background to go completely black.
my reasoning is if i make the icons into line art, and keep as much of the screen off wherever i can i can stretch battery life even further. it worked wonders on my gs2. But having a slightly glowing background ruins all that.
I'm not sure whether it's supported, but you can try making a monochrome bitmap-file (.bmp) in MsPaint. At least you are sure this way that the black is truly black.
Have you tried using different launchers? Are you sure the hue is not just your icons giving some 'bleeding'?
thanks, i will give that a try.
its the same with go launcher and touchwiz. its actually magnified on the lockscreen showing lots of banding.
Try this pic. I use it on mine and looks black

My first Note did this so I sent it back. My new one does not do it.
still no luck, apps with black backgrounds look fine.
i tried an all black bitmap and that didnt work either.
is there any way to turn background off and just leave it blank? would that give me a pure black background?
like i said i dont think its a hardware problem since the app backgrounds look deep black unlike the wallpaper. i did see something about the note only being 16 bit and that was causing weird display issues due to scaling or something, blah blah.
its using 24bits
thats right, the note is 24 bit and the os operates in 16 bit currently, right? either way i need to find a way to fix it.
I used a plain black GIF. Works fine for the home screen background, but on lock screen it has barely noticeable dark gray lines in it until you touch it and the unlock symbol appears.
here is the one i made
this black is one color 24 bit png on my note it is completely black at any brightness. let me know if it works. 800 x 1280 black correct dpi blackground
http://www.mediafire.com/i/?gcufvpft3yawf6p
or download "no wallpaper" from the market - simple app that just adds a wallpaper that is totally black. Works a treat.
Try an app called COLOURS by Tim Clark
Hi to all.
I cant find a solution to my problem and maybe someone can help me.
I have found some wallpapers for our Note in the right resolution (800x1280) to use these in my lockscreen.
The problem is that when i choose a wallpaper with lot of black color and choose it as lockscreen wallpaper i can see some horizontal lines on it.
If i choose the same image as phone wallpaper everything is ok.
Where is the problem?
Thank you all.
I have the exact same issue. Horizontal lines on lock screen, but looks fine everywhere else. I don't have the solution, but maybe I can help you out a bit.
I did some searching, it turns out that there's some sort of software bug that doesn't allow black images to be truly black but rather very dark grey. The thread is somewhere in this forum.
Also the native lock screen resolution is actually smaller than the screen resolution because of the notification bar. Per this forum: http://androidforums.com/htc-hero/37268-lockscreen-resolution-compression-issues-false-info.html
Also when you set an image to be the lock screen, it seems the picture is re-scalled and saved again (in another directory), which means compressed again.
Android phones usually don't display images in 24 or 32 bit color but rather 16 bit color, which means color banding. More on that information somewhere in this thread also.
My suggestion is:
1. Find out the native lock screen resolution. I'm also searching for the figure.
2. Edit your photo, change it to that resolution, and make sure the black areas of that image are truly digitally black (000000), and save it as an uncompressed image.
Maybe the horizontal lines are because the image is being re-scalled, re compressed, and the image being displayed at 16 bit color with a "true black but" is resulting in horizontal lines.
The solution is this. I'm using it and black is perfect.

Not bad idea at all...I have used widgetlocker in my previous phones but somehow i had some little problems like small lugs or battery draining.
I dont know if in the latest version is fixed.
But ill try cause i love black lockscreen in our huge super screen...
edit:Not working properly for me cause i have lower destiny...
Ah, what a shame! But WL does work, so if you ever go back to the stock density i highly recommend you using it.
Magick locker is free so you can test that, get a theme and customize wallpaper, set any black image and its fine. so its samsung lockscreen software bug
One simple solution, use wallpaper wizardrii!!
It solved all my wallpaper problems!
Wicked app & highly recommended. Link - https://market.android.com/details?id=com.twistedapps.wallpaperwizardrii&hl=en
Functions of wallpaper wizardrii:
Wallpaper Wizardrii, "Changing the way you set wallpaper" ™.
Twisted Apps just bought an Asus Transformer to make WW work for tablets. We have a beta so if you want to try it e-mail.
Set your own images, Portrait, Landscape, and Crop; all with No Scroll or Scroll. Check out set Exact or Crop Exact! Set images from WW, file browser, or Android's Gallery (Share as). Check Home App compatibility with No Scroll option (only).
Sorry if this has been asked but I Googled and couldn't find much (I suspect because of the keywords- it wants to show me how to change the background or how it's available in white)... but, after the 5.0 update, there is one "annoyance" setting that I'm hoping can be reverted. Everything is now white instead of black (menus, app drawer, etc.). Can this be reverted to the darker theme easily?
As far as I know there is no way to revert to the "black theme".
Oddly, G's news app has a dark theme built in, but thats the only one I can find
Just a pet peeve of mine; the UI on Pixel 7 in dark mode isn't actually black, it's more like a grey or brown depending on what style you choose. Makes it look like an LCD not an OLED. I've attached 2 screenshots of app drawers to illustrate. One is from my Pixel 7 which isn't exactly black, and the other is of my Galaxy A53 which is pure black. Just looking to change that if possible.

I bought Nova Launcher Prime a couple years ago, may as well use it. But for what it's worth this option should come stock.

You are welcome to try this if you are stock-rooted. Flash in magisk app.
The drawback is that upon rebooting your phone, your phone relocks itself (not reboot). When you unlock it the second time, the mod takes affect. Without that post script, the phone would bootloop. This happens everytime you reboot your phone. Because of this, this mod is incompatible with the magisk module that is a "bootloop protector" as it sees this mod as bootlooping instead of relocking and disables the mod. This mod is using cool_modules installer from here:

I tweaked it to use with Pixel Launcher.
To get your settings background black, you go to settings/ display/display theme and choose stock-black.
Might be worth a shot.
Also repainter app has this feature.
The reason why the color of the dark theme is not black but something similar to gray is because when you move white text on a completely black background, an annoying color plot is perceived due to the delay that the screen pixels have. OLED to go from completely off to on, and it is precisely here where the grays fulfill a very important task, since they generate a contrast that "hides" the phenomenon described above.

So Google is using inferior OLED panels? I find my A53 has a much nicer screen & no issues with text in black background scrolling.
I mean, look at the fingerprint. I don't understand how this is a "Flagship" UI. My A53 is slower for sure, but the UI has nice blur effects, pure black backgrounds, the fingerprint isn't an icon; it's a pure white translucent fingerprint. I just expected better. I don't feel like rooting it and bending over backwards to get it to look decent. I put it up for sale and no one wants it. Will trade it in at Best buy for a discount on a Samsung. The pixel 7 takes great pictures, it's fast, but the battery life is mediocre and The UI is too bland for me; it's washed out.
