Hi everybody !
I've been testing Android 12 almost since it's release but now I'd like to sell my Pixel 5 so I have to downgrade it from Android 12 to Android 11.
I already rolled out from the beta program from the Google website. But when I'm searching for an update in the settings, it keeps saying "Preparing the system update". Now it's been 2 hours and still nothing happens.
I tried a factory reset but the problem is still here.
Do you guys have any idea of what I can do ?
Thanks !

Haha, I understand.
But I mean, if you're going to be flashing the image it's only 1 command line, well 2. 1 to unlock bootloader and 1 to lock.
You can ddoooo eeeiittttt!
Lol
Honestly, though, best of luck to you. Keep us updated on if you decide to kill laziness or to continue to wait, and the results on either.
Haha I'll tell you once I've decided what to do but I don't think I'll wait. I have to sell it before the Pixel 6 is released haha

Yeah, I agree it's not that difficult but it is time consuming. First you will need to unlock the bootloader and that will do a factory reset. Then the login procedure and flashing the latest factory image for 11 with a full wipe. Then relocking to bootloader with another factory reset and logging in again. Then deleting all your accounts so FRP isn't triggered when you sell it. Or wait until 12 is released, get the OTA and then sell it. I would make sure the OEM switch is set to unlocking until the very end. You never know.

I've thought about waiting the official release of Android 12 too. I've heard that the official release comes before the release of the next Pixel si that would let me some days to sell it.

Yes. Announcement, pre order, in the stores. Android 12 will be live weeks ahead of delivery of the P6
I'll think about it then. But my problem may not be fixed with the official release if it's still looking for the update

You'll get an ota with the official release, then you're off the beta and it won't look for anything other than the monthly updates.
Relocking the bootloader should not be necessary. Try using the Android Flash Tool to flash the latest factory image. Try force flashing all partitions (I believe this requires a wipe) and if that doesn't work disable verity and verification. I did try to downgrade from the 12 Beta 5 before I got root working, but I was doing it manually via command line, and the phone wouldn't reboot into fastbootd.
Okay the problem is fixed ! I turned on the phone yesterday before going to bed and this morning it finally found the "update". I could downgrade it to Android 11 through the official way !
So if the problem appears to one of you : be very patient
Thank you for your help guys !

If I check for updates, it says there are none. Has the update been officially released yet or is everyone "manually" installing it?
the update has been released official by sony, but it's rolling out slowly. For now the update showed up in nordic regions, but it should soon start rolling out in other regions. If you're impatient you can always flash the update manually. Search the forums to find out how to do it

Same here. I have bought the phone without any carrier attached and no update yet even though at least some other folks in my country seem to have it already.
Should we wait or we should do the manual update? With the manual update, do we have to unlock the bootloader? I would actually like to avoid unlocking or rooting.
Thanks for the replies. Guess I'll just wait some more.

no you dont have to unlock your bootloader. You install flashtool, device drivers and ftf file you wish to flash. There are great guides in forums, search for them how to do it
By the way, once the update is available through the phone's update feature, will it be possible to do a fresh install or is updating the only way?

You can do a factory reset after the update. That's equivalent to a clean install.

Thanks. How would go about doing a factory reset after the update? Sorry, I'm an Android noob as this is my first Android phone. Secondly, after the update to Android 5.0 will the recovery "partition" of the phone also get updated to Android 5.0 or will it stay at 4.4.4?
I guess they are doing a roll in insteaf of rollout. Im short to ditching sony

Rollouts take time with Android phone OEMs, the update must be tested and approved seperately for each region and mobile operator. Some regions and mobile operators can be very slow at this, unfortunately. Just be patient and don't obsess too much over it.
With non oem phones (international version not tied to carrier) is it still expected that I may not have an update yet or should I start worrying something is wrong and should start look at the manual update?

My N6 is still waiting 7.1.1 OTA, surprisingly, security patches come on schedule, but almost three months after release, OTA is not coming. Yes, I know I can sideload it, but one of the reasons I decided not to root it was not losing the ability of OTA updates.... any hint?
Thanks.

You can flash the stock rom and you will receive OTA . Unlocking bootloader dosen't mean root.
You WILL receive OTA updates just do as follows
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Flash latest fastboot images
3. Lock bootloader - optional.
Make sure you don't keep TWRP recovery. It isn't that good for installing OTA packages via system update.
Please follow the guides if you don't know how to do them. Download the latest one named 7.1.1

@Pocket_rocket Just a warning though... Unlocking your bootloader will wipe your device.
Use the full OTA image instead. I believe there's no need for an unlocked bootloader then.
https://developers.google.com/android/ota
Edit: a word of caution... If you decide to sideload the OTA, it's not a bad idea to keep your bootloader unlocked. If anything goes wrong along the way, you can then fix it.
And about the update issue. Are you on AT&T? They haven't approved 7.1.1 yet...
Edit 2 (I just woke up, gimme a break ): If you use Android Pay or anything else dependent on SafetyNet, you can't keep your bootloader unlocked (without further tinkering) since that triggers SN.

Hi Didgeridoohan, Mine is now NBD92D (AT&T version and update thru OTA) but I don't see any AT&T logo on the back and my city(HK) does not have any AT&T service. Do you have any idea on this(Actually my Nexus 6 is from Australia).
In addition, if I keep sideload the OTA image N6F26U will cause any problem(except the Android Pay)? As you mention that Google does not approve any 7.1.1 AT&T version(Just tried to sideload N6F26U, it said can't install over a newer version).
Thanks so much in advance.

No. I'm on Vodafone (Spain) but I purchased this phone right on Amazon, so no pesky carrier should be acting as a man in the middle, I guess...
I mean, the phone runs decently well, but, given the fact that 7.1.1 will be the last update for this model, I want it. I wonder if is just a matter of patience or there is some other issue that is preventing my phone to get the OTA.
Thanks.
I have the same issue, m on NBD92D, which seems to ATT only, but there's no AT&T in India. I tried sideloading N6F26U, but it didn't work. Any idea how I can get 7.1, apart from waiting?

Hi guys,
Got a quick question: according to my device there are no updates available. I'm still on china 12.5.2 so there should be one available right? Anyway the weird thing is that my phone keeps displaying the option the reboot. Even when I do it's still there after reboot. Weird right? Do you guys have this as well? I've removed some things with adb, could that be it? Or am I overthinking and will I have to wait for ota? Thanks!

Your on the stable branch. Updates now and again when fully tested on the weekly(beta) branch of the kernal. If you want to change to weekly, then unlock your bootloader and fastboot flash a weekly version but make sure you format data as there may be partition differences between the two, if you don't, you may end up bootlooping until you do

You need to go to the regular updater - click the three dot menu - select "choose update package " and select the downloaded zip. The rest will be done automatically just be patient because it will take a while until it finishes.
If you don't have the expanded menu there just click on the 12 miui logog there and you will see them.

No, my bootloader was still locked and it worked right away for me on the stock Updater. I was also stuck on CN 12.5.2 for a while. Just tap the MIUI logo a couple of times until it says more options have been unlocked. After that, you should see an icon with 3 dots in the top right corner.
Click on that and then select install from package.
You mean to reach the version in yoder to unlock the bootloader ?!
You can unlock the bootloader at any version, given you applied for the unlock process and waited around 7 days
Ok guys per request i will post my personal Pixel 7 lineage rom . Is update to december and it has the minimal gapps built inline . I will call it Beta but all i use daily is working for me . I know face unlock is not working because never add the commits . It wont pass the safety net unless rooted but again i dont use it , also all apps from play-store are working . Maybe will update maybe not will see . Cheetah is booting too but apps is force close and cant fix now because i dont got the device . So please dont ask a lot of questions ! Installing is simple , be on December , wipe factory default from recovery and fastboot update the name.zip .

I don't want to do a full wipe. It would be nice to have a ROM like the one from November, which you can simply install in recovery. Too bad it probably won't be available any time soon.

I appreciate the work! I've downloaded your updated build, bootloader is unlocked & ready to flash,,, Just not sure how to flash it (I'm good at following directions). I really haven't done much flashing since the Galaxy S5 & S6, and that was with Odin. I'm guessing with the Pixel 7 it's done with some fastboot commands and pretty simple, just don't know the procedure.

*EDIT" Just tap power & up keys for half a second. I was long pressing them.
How do I boot into recovery from fastboot? I can select " Recovery mode" but it boots a dead android and under it says "no command" . I'm just doing a dry run, I don't feel like bricking my phone. I'm stuck on step "8." of the link you sent.
So, I manually flashed stable beta 14.0.3 on my 11 T Pro, and everything works great, even the notorious "proximity sensor" Few days after, the same update appeared officially on my wife's 11 T Pro so I instantly flashed it. Her phone reboots all the time now, it's almost unusable. I tried removing her Google account and adding it back, but it didn't help. What's my next choice? Downgrade? Dirty flash 14.0.3? I would like to avoid wiping the phone if possible, so I'm open for any suggestion.
Thanks in advance!

Start by reinstalling the package from the updater.
Otherwise, forced to do a factory reset. (erases your data)
Downgrading (erases your data) requires unlocking the bootloader (erases your data).

Sorry OP, is your wife on mi pilot program?
Why is everyone getting miui14 and I that applied for mi pilot haven't got it yet?! Even people that haven't applied got the update already... We should at least receive security updates, I'm still on November security update
*Sorry for my anger, I feel better now*
