Question Lag in games? - Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

When I play Golf Battle and Subway Surfers, it's lagging like I'm playing on a phone from 1998. My resolution is at max and I have 120hz enabled. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Try clearing the system cache.
Try at 60hz.

Didn't clear the cache yet, but tried 60 hz. Way better. Does it make sense?

Clearing the system cache may completely resolve the issue...
A lot less work for the graphics chipset and less cpu cycles.
You might want to benchmark test it and see if it's doing about the same as others.
If it is, good as it gets.

Temple Run oz lagging

Clearing memory, cache etc doesnt stop it lagging. Is this phone not capable of running this game smoothly? Is it perhaps not optimised for the phones chipset?
Even on the low detail setting in game options makes no differance..

Well its probably optimization as this phone Is more than capable of running that game. For example I can play real racing 3 with no lag what so ever same as GTA 3 ect..

Hi i found out that temple run oz "always starts up facebook" during the game, even if you disable facebook in game settings.
On ICS i use the "greenify" tool to disable facebook when i dont use it.
Then when I start the game it starts facebook anyway, and the game starts to stutter and hick a lot.
Now i use a facebook alternative , called "ATRIUM", also free from market, and i run Temple run Oz smooth, even at lower cpu speeds like 800 Mhz.
I hope this could help you and others, even if we have different phones.
Enjoy

Do you have enough free RAM for the games? If you have a lot of processes running in the back this might cause lag. Use a task killer of some sort. Also, if your phone heats a lot this causes downclock of the processor which=lag.
Free ram about 1200 mb,running tusk killer .Lags appear Immediately after starting application so I think overheating is impossible. Thanks for the reply.

Sounds like a video driver bug, if you don't have anything important you can do a factory reset, yes it's a bit of an overkill but otherwise you're stuck with lag. If after the reset everything is still the same I would recommend to send it for repairs.

Stuttering/Low Framerate?

Hey guys first of all I'm new on XDA.
My Galaxy S Advance just doesn't feel ''butter smooth'' like it should be. When I use my friends Galaxy S II, I really feel the difference when scrolling through homescreens. When I'm scrolling through my homescreens on my SGS Advance it just feels like it has something like 40-50 fps.
Does anyone know a solution for this? Or is this just the flaws of the SGS Advance?
I'm running Cyanogenmod 11, but I've had many different ROM and Kernels, they all didn't solve the problem.
40 - 50 FPS ? really ? In my opinion your eyes can't realize 24 FPS above if you are NOT playing Battlefield 3.
24 FPS is enough (maybe not good as you want lol)
30 FPS is good (smooth as we wait)
45 FPS is very good (excellent)

I bet you have problems with scrolling especially in the internet browser. I encounter too.

Well 40-50 fps is what I think. If I'm playing games I certainly can see the difference between 60 fps and 50 fps. The problem occurs everywhere but is most noticable in scrolling and as you said when scrolling in a browser.

All I can say is "I know I too" but you can perform some basic things. If you're using stock sam ROM you can install CoCore Kernel and you can delete unnecesary system apps. If you're using CM you can disable reporting, touchbooster, some debug stuff on kernel.

Hmm, well I'm using CM but somehow I can't install CoCore kernel on CM11 because I get in a bootloop if I do. About the Disable Reporting and Touchbooster, I don't know how I can set or change these things, how do I do that?:silly:

I know you can't compare the SGS Advance with the S 2 but It's only the lag/low framerate, I don't get why it is not running smooth. Apps start up just as fast as on the S 2.

On CMs we have problem with tearing screens while scrolling or similar actions. I guess it is because we do not have stock 4.2.2+ firmwares, so devs did some modifications from 4.1 or something. They will explain you better. But they will fix it if it is possible.

Stutter in games with new phone

I bought this phone in the amazon deal a month ago and went directly to marshmallow in the first day.
The problem is I've noticed a lot of stutter from the get go in games like asphalt 8 and dead trigger 2 with no apps opened in the background, I even wipe the cache partition and factory reset the phone to not avail. My brothers nexus 5 runs asphalt 8 flawlessly and its on marshmallow so, whats wrong?.

honestly with no kernel mods the phone looks absolutely pitiful when it comes to graphics, animations, etc as for those games idk maybe try lowering settings I don't really have much experience in the way of phone gaming. Though the N6 is pushing more pixels with 1440x2560 vs 1080x1920 of the N5. N6 you have could also be thermal throttling. The kernel also underclocks as the battery gets lower down to a measly 1.5ghz 2 cores only and 300mhz graphics at 15% battery, down from 2.6ghz x4 cores and 600mhz graphics. Some things to think about until someone else comes back with some first hand feedback.

The resolution is a strange thing on the N6. My website is displaying the innerWiidth and -Height as 600 x 891. And that with a dpi of 384. When I change the dpi to Google's default, it is worse.
I think android and apps do not support the full resolution 1440 x 2560.

is there a known ideal dpi for 1920*1080??

The stutter is right at the beginning of gaming not after gaming sessions.
It is pushing more pixel but, it has a more powerful gpu, check the review of this phone on gsmarena, go to the oncreen gpu benchmark, the performance against the xperia z3 (adreno 330) is very similar.
Lets say the adreno 420 gpu is not capable of pushing those many pixel, even then, my problem is heavy stuttering not average low fps.
Edit: Just reduced the settings in asphalt 8 from high to very low, same stuttering issue now with really low graphics.

lack of game optimization or thermal throttle might be the culprit, try to use gamebench and see the gpu utilization.
change the governor/scheduler to ondemand/deadline, you'll see an improvement

I just googled your reply, it seems like my phone has to be rooted for doing that and its not.

oh.. yea, you need root to be able to adjust governor/scheduler. but, its too bad, as other stock users report the same thing with certain games.

About 390. That's why I am using 384, because 384 dpi sets the N6 in tablet mode.
(N6 screen 2560 x 1440 pixels or 4.90 x 2.76 inches.)

i dont understand.. how do performance benchmarks relate to people seeing a stutter in games? btw, i do not..

Well, I thought the stutter in games happen because for some reason the OS, the API, or whatever refuses to use the resources available when heavy apps (3d games) are running, then I expected the same results when another kind of similar heavy lifting was needed (3d benchmarks) , I was wrong.

I find that I can get rid of stuttering by changing the way the CPU works. I actually have never seen it stutter at all, considering that I change how the CPU works every single boot up. it just takes some time playing with the different governors and schedulers available. I use ondemand/deadline for example. anyways, yea, benchmarks don't really show stuttering
When i had the phone on lolipop i never had stutter issues just bad battery life. It might be marshmallow related .

My phone is a RAM eater?

Hello,
I have my P9 now for a month or so and i really think it is a RAM eater, it sucks up my RAM.
It has 800mb's free ram when all i repeat all applications are closed that is not how it supposed to be i think so.
after i reboot my P9 it has 1.69GB free but after a day or so the same thing happens is this normal or not?
BTW i have the 3GB model EVA-L09
Hmm.. I have the same model too and I seem to drift at around 1.2~1.6 free most of the time unless I'm heavily multi-tasking, do you have any heavy apps that maybe auto-start or anything like that? You could also try factory resetting if it's going that bad.

It's not a problem, its memory management.
There's no point having lots of ram with nothing in it.
Edit..unless you're having performance issues?

If there is lag and you feel it's RAM related, there is a "clean up" function in phone manager. Or just kill some apps from multitask view But most of the time there really are almost no benefits to having free ram on android. RAM performance is not scaling with the amount, like CPUs for example. It's more like, you have enough then you can run the apps, you don't have enough then you can't run it. But on android that's basically a non-issue because it will automatically clear the ram if you don't have enough for a certain task.
I get around 1.5-1.7 when freeing memory. I don't have a lot of apps installed though. It doesn't go down even after a few days withoit restarts unlike my older phones.

If you are having a lag issue, there is a setting for 'protected applications'... in advanced, battery manager...may have a look there, and un-protect some.
