Closing apps - Android Auto General

Hi,
When I start android auto, Waze navigator starts automatically.
Sometimes it's useful, bit sometimes it's useless (p.e. I want to listen to music without Waze autovelox alerts).
How can I close Waze without quitting AA?

I never liked that creepy app...
Try modifying notifications for the app.

It's not a notification issue.
What I want is to kill the app when unwanted.

App launching weirdness.

When I load an app, say for example, Google Keep, either from 'Start' or by voice. The app will launch and then my watch face will immediately pop back into view over the app. The watch then becomes unresponsive until I do the 'cover with palm' action. I'f I then go back and launch the app again it works fine.
Every time I need to use an app I am having to go through this procedure to get the app to work correctly.
Either I am the only one or I didn't explain the problem very well.
Having the same problem. I've decided that apps aren't going to work on this watch. Maybe that will change after the update.
Having the same issue with my G watch R.
Try blocking Google Fit notifications on the watch. I had the same problem with unresponsiveness and when I blocked Google Fit, everything is smooth again. You can still access Fit functions, but you just won't get the notification cards periodically anymore.

Thanks. I'll give that a try.
EDIT: I can confirm that has fixed the issue! Thanks very much dude!

[Q] Constant ads on Moto X

Sorry if this is noob questions, but all the time on my phone, google play will open up to a random game/app while I'm doing other things. Specific examples:
When I'm using talk to text-- the microphone will grab half of what I'm saying, freeze, and then switch to google play with "uber" up or something.
When I'm typing a text message, google play will pop up.
When i wake up the the morning, and go to turn off the alarm, there is an ad in the way, and I have to press home, open clock to turn off the alarm.
These are the three most common instances where the ads come up, and it's just super annoying. Does anyone have any suggestions to get this to stop?
Thanks in advance!!
Must be an app you installed recently. Try checking Google Play reviews of apps you have on your phone (look for reviews with similar complaints).

As said above it's probably an app . I had a similar problem long back . It's usually from an ad supported app that runs in the background (eg: Applocker or equivalent, photo hiding app , another telephony app like full screen caller HD or something) .So check which apps are running in the background before you start un-installing :good:
surely an app....
If you're a normal user, you need to revisit you Installed Apps and find out! (some app which has lot of Permissions is doing this, ignore them in future)
If you have root, AdAway would be handy.
If you have root+Xposed, MinMinGuard will do the job.
It's surely an app. Try installing this, will tell you which app are pushing ads to your phone, then you can uninstall them.

Switch to other apps after Android 7/Nougat?

Hello
Before Nougat upgrade I could switch to other apps while using Android Auto on my Nexus 6P. Or maybe I only could do it when I still had my LG G4? Can't remember.
Yesterday I had started Android Auto and after that I was going to start an app that I use to listen to audiobooks. I could not do this, I could not get away from AA. So I ended up stopping Android Auto and just used Google Maps instead to navigate so I still could control my phone.
Does anyone know any trick to start other apps when AA is started?

That's how aa works on my z5 mm - exiting car mode (to interact on the phone) ends aa.
I can control certified apps from my head unit.
Yes, it is supposed to work like that. It's not exactly the way I like it but that't how it works. But there might be a way around it for you.
I use iCoyote (a radar app) on my phone and before I connect the phone to Android Auto, I start that app. When Android auto has completed the connection with the car, I am able to put the app back on screen using the status bar. Of course, this only works for apps that are visible in the status bar but I suspect that will be the case with your audiobook app.
A better solution for you however, is to switch to another audiobook app that supports Android Auto. I haven't tried one yet but there are plenty of audiobook apps available in the app store that have support for Android Auto so you won't need to control the app on your phone anymore.
I figured out a workaround. Open Now on Tap and do what you need to do from there.
(start it by long-pressing home button)

Smart Audiobook player supports aa. Its the one I use for books in my car..

Quite an old thread, but have you tried pressing the headphone button twice? Then I can switch to other apps.

I'm using the app Tiles to start app from quick settings now. Works great.

No, but it lets you start an app on your phone even though you're not supposed to be able to do that while using AA.
This sucks though, because if you have a passenger in the car it is of course OK do this, or if you have stopped the car.
On my S7E, I just tap the recent key, then the home key immediately afterwards to go back to Nova Launcher. I have to use that button sequence every time, but it works reliably.
I really hope they don't 'fix' this 'problem' when 7.x hits these phones. I find the verbal message narration to be quite unacceptable.
Luckily, I have a N7 in my daily driver, so this is mostly a moot point for me, but could be a concern when I get my model 3.

Mi mix keeps forgetting drawing over other apps

Hi,
So when I reboot... I always have to switch some over drawing apps like meteor swipe on again. Sometimes accessibilities to... Why does this happen? Why doesn't the switches stay on like I putted them when I rebooted?
I have this same issue. It forgets certain permissions on certain apps. It also seems to happen when switching between second space and back to first space. Very annoying, I hope that Xiaomi or the EU rom developers fix this.
you'll have this problem unless you allow that app to autostart in the security app. it's stupid but for instance i need that setting for LMT and thats the only way to solve it.
if you continue to have problems use Titanium backup to convert the app to a system app that fixes things usually as well.
secturity, accessibility, services make sure whatever app is drawing over apps is turned on.
also, go into whatever app you need to draw over apps and turn on every permission.
Yes it is a pain.
I also have trouble with my alarm, if the alarm notification is not in the notification panel the Alarm will not go off.
A real pain.

Enable popup window permission for this app and you're done.

unlink Waze and Android auto

All,
One question I am seeking the answer to is can one unlink Waze from AA? Google maps will allow one to run Google maps on the phone and if using a screen mirroring app (e.g. screen2auto, AA Mirror, etc) one can stay in screen mirror road and use Google maps.
Waze, however, refuses to launch on the phone if Android Auto is running. I would like to be able to run Waze on my phone and mirror the screen, so that I do not have to go back to Android auto to see directions if I am mirroring my screen.
Any assistance is appreciated.
Cheers,
B.D.
As far as I know, it is not possible to run two apps using the GPS in the same time. Take in account that even one of the navigation apps runs on AA (screen mirroring), this doesn't mean it is not using the same GPS sensor.

Uhi711,
I appreciate the response, but just to clarify, I am not asking about running two GPS app (though this is possible, as I have run magic earth and maps at the same time>. My question is specific if there is a way to run waze on the phone while connected to AA.
Hope this clarifies.
Cheers,

Ok, I didn't understand exactly what you were asking.
I'm not sure that this will solve your problem, but it worth trying.
In AA settings (opened on phone), you have the option to choose what apps you want to be able to see on AA's apps screen (Customize launcher). Disable Waze and see what happens when you connect your phone to your car's infotainment system.

Not sure if this helps but I run Waze & Google maps at the same split screen each set to 2 different locations all the time. Never had any problems. [emoji2369]

uhi711,
Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, when I tried this, Waze launched but then FCed.

Hmmmm. Strange. I tried on my Pixel 3xl and Waze will launch and then FC itself. Google Maps will run on my phone Even if I run Google Maps on my car, or Waze is running on my car. I am on the latest version of AA and Waze.
Thanks for the suggestions and information.
Cheers,
B.D.
Figured it out. If Waze is running (From the head unit), then it will not permit Waze to run on the phone (as the output is already to the head unit). I thought I had exited the app and not had it launch in Android Auto.
To overcome this, I used KWGT to create a widget that when pressed will call a Tasker Task to kill waze. Then I could start waze on the phone (mirror screen) and even have it split screen with my music app.
Hope this helps somebody else.
Cheers,
B.D.
