Desktop mode using DisplayPort alt mode ? - Sony Xperia XZ2 Questions & Answers

Since the snapdragon 845 supports native DisplayPort, it only make sense that the Xperia supports it too (but it's disabled?)
It is most likely possible to get it working since LG G7 enabled it using OTA after the release
And Desktop mode is cool, and hopefully gets better over the next months

Will not be corrected, updates will not wake up anymore.

Sony will not enable it, but figuring out what changed on the LG after the update and then applying the change to the XZ's might work
trying to use the kernel from the LG G7 might get the DP to work

Pioneer Next 4100

So my radio came in today and android auto doesn't work. It says my phone was not compatible. I have a rooted note 4 running android 5.0.2 (cm 12). I also used my fiancée sg5 with the new stock 5.0 and it still doesn't work! Anybody care to help?
Anybody?
Did you try calling pioneer?
I'm having the same issue. I have a rooted T-Mobile LG G3 running 5.0.
I thought I was the only one

Close on the weekend
There are YouTube videos of car audio installers using it so it has to work
Same here, I have an HTC One M8 rooted and its not working for me either. I read the manual and apparently you need a CD-MU200 interface cable from pioneer. Don't know if that's bulls**t or not, but we'll find out. I have the USB setup so that I can use the built-in port in my car. I don't know if that's what the reason is or not. I'll have to call pioneer on Monday.

Well that's three people with the same problem
I think you need the Google apps loaded for one thing, and having an account enabled may be even better.
Lollipop is essential at this time, and I think 5.1 is even better.
Nexus also has a better chance of working.
I am trying to get developer mode working and I am mainly using my Nexus 7 2012 w/ 5.1 because my 2013 N7 and N9 both are still on 5.0.
But its just about api21 that AA runs on. 5.1 has api22 and its confirmed AA is working on "normal" lollipop, I mean 5.0.x
I'm running 5.0.1 on my M8 and Android Auto isn't working

Also it's important to have latest GMS installed.

Check version you need, download it and install. I can bet all of you have old versions (as I was surprised some time ago that it's not updating and I was stuck on 6.x when for months there was 7.x available)

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately it didn't work for me. I went on the reviews for android auto app on Google play and it seems a lot of other people are having the same issue.
Theres a new update on pioneer site, but didn't fix problem.
Maybe
You can generally find the Android Auto button located on the home screen of your car's digital display. How to navigate to the home screen will vary by manufacturer, so check your car's user guide.
I plugged in my phone, found the Android Auto button, but it won't open.
If this is the first time you’re using Android Auto in a particular car, be sure to unlock your phone and accept the terms and conditions on your phone’s screen after you’ve connected and touched the Android Auto button on your display.
Also, make sure that the "Only connect to known cars" setting in the Android Auto app is unchecked.
The voice command button takes me out of Android Auto.
My USB cable isn't working.
Not all USB cables will work with all cars. Your car's user guide should have information about the best USB cable to connect your phone to the display.

[MOD][MAY30] Enable WiFi on LDZ22D

I've managed to enable WiFi on lenok by coping several files from bass and kernel with the wlan driver enabled, courtesy of intersectRaven. It seems to be working without any issues, so here's a flashable ZIP.
Requirements:
LG G watch R running the 5.1.1 update (LDZ22D). This wasn't tested on anything else.
TWRP installed as custom recovery
unlocked bootloader
Instructions:
(optional) make backup of system and boot in TWRP, so you can revert changes my ZIP makes
install intersectRaven kernel 20150530_08XX or newer. Doesn't matter if you choose single or dual core. I recommend reading through his thread first. kernel thread | link to folder with his lenok kernels
reboot into TWRP
flash lenok_wifi_zip-XX.zip (you can get it to the device with adb push lenok_wifi_zip-XX.zip /sdcard/)
reboot the device
Whenever you flash anything that modifies boot.img (say, a kernel), you have to re-flash lenok_wifi_zip-XX.zip file.
Needless to say, this breaks OTAs - when next Android update hits, you'll have to restore from backup or flash whole images.

Notes, warnings...
You're flashing this from your own will. This file brings over bunch of files & bits of firmware from Urbane, something might break. There's also a chance LG didn't just do this because "hey, buy urbane, it has WiFi!" and there is some actual reason why WiFi was not enabled on lenok - including some HW difficulties. Using this method to enable WiFi has the potential to cause permanent HW damage. Also keep in mind that WiFi on G Watch R might not have been certified for use.
It's working just fine for me so far, but I haven't been using it for very long. The voice recognition is slower than on BT and less reliable (sometimes even claiming "offline"), not sure if that's "how's it's supposed to be" or if it is bug specific to this mod. Some guessing about what might be causing it in this post.
One last thing - please, don't discuss common "halp I don't know how to install recovery/flash kernel/flash a ZIP" problems in this thread and focus only on issues related to the mod itself. Thanks.
Lets start the party, flashing right now
Flashed everything. Now the G Watch R reboots into TWRP or maybe Bootloader. But no normal reboot into android?
Glad to see that someone mirrored what Paul O'Brien did for me back in the N1 days. He gave me the ROM and I gave the kernel to enable FM radio.
Flashed stock boot.img, recovery.img and system.img to get the G Watch R back to work. Now I'm waiting for comments with working hack until I'm gonna try it again..
tried,everything seems good,got the wifi

The stock kernel doesn't have wifi drivers enabled. That release of intersectRaven's kernel is based on urbane's sources, and has all the drivers enabled.

Alright seems logical, G Watch R had the hardware inside but no certification in the device specs. I'll give it a try later. Thanks, if you need anything don't hesitate to ping me.

What do you mean "answer"? Voice recognition? I've noticed that it is much slower and less reliable (sometimes even claiming "offline"), not sure if that's the same on Urbane or not. Urbane has different mic configuration and different sound firmware files, which don't work on lenok - so lenok might be missing some optimizations that make voice recognition over wifi faster (BT and WiFi use different "formats" of data sent into the cloud, that's why it might matter how they are "prepared" on the device by the FW).
Or maybe it is the same on Urbane? I really dunno, get some users with watches that have wifi by default and make them tell us

You should know that this watch has already have certification it needed.FCC has already approved this watch using WiFi.
No LG bashing guys, keep in clean in here. This is about the mod, nothing else.
What could actually be permanently damaged by this? I want WiFi, but not bad enough to risk damage to the radio chip. In other words is it a generic warning, or is there actually an above-typical risk of damage?

It's just that we have no idea. While I'm inclined to believe lenok doesn't have wifi just due to marketing reasons, there might be some key differences between bass and lenok that I don't know about, and that _might_ cause some problems later.
Great work Tasssadar!
Regarding the voice recognition "issue" I've noticed it works pretty decently if I'm close to the WiFi AP but gets worse and worse as I move away, so it might have something to do with WiFi signal quality.
Shame on you, LG.

Wait.. 960u1 is unlocked yes? Isn't the updates from Samsung? I mean we have the same hardware and same software. FM should work, it's not dependent on the carrier while WiFi calling night be.
FM live radio is not carrier dependent and does work on the latest update.
So this update repeatedly caused my GS9 to freeze and reboot, kept getting System UI and Samsung Pay Framework has stopped working messages. Finally it reboot and when it came back up, half my **** has been reset to factory. Nova is back to defaults with no backups (I did have at least one saved for my layout), my navbar buttons were put back to defaults, volume set back to default, brightness back to default, even some apps back to their defaults like Chrome.
I am on Tmobile and I know that they had problems with the May patch so they stopped rolling that out but holy ****. I am so damn annoyed that I now have to set all this **** back up again after a SECURITY PATCH. Not even any new features.
Smfh, just be wary if you are on the GS9 from Tmobile and havent updated yet. Prepare to possibly run into problems and back up what you can. Going to spend around 2 hours setting everything up again and reorganizing my apps.

Thanks for the warning. I remember a few years ago on my Galaxy Alpha every device software update used more RAM - the Operating System got larger and a little slower although it was a fast phone.
I am using a TMo S9 which I just got a few days ago ....and noticed the HUGE size of the update.
I have great battery life using a Tmo S9 on Metro PCS - possibly because most of the automatic Apps that load from TMO never loaded because it was never on the Tmo Network [ brand new ].
I noticed one bug that the Phone App is supposed to switch to a pop up [ like Note and Alpha ] if you want while using other Apps or Internet during a call- call turns into an Icon which you can move OR touch again to get full screen- [ it's in the options on the dial screen ] - BUT the update does not fix that or other bugs apparently.
See menu below for' pop up option '.
Great on Note and Alpha for calls when you need to jump on Internet quick during a call..but does not work on S9 ...
One description said the Update aids in' Camera Stabilization ' and security but I think the Camera is just so people will accept download ..lol.
Any decreased battery life or radical differences in Operating System having a much larger O.S. and having less free RAM ?
That's what hapoened with Alpha ..it just slowed down a hair ... less RAM .
Why do they need almost .8 Gig ?

My G960U1 is on a T-Mobile, still on February update(Just this morning received the following update).
(G960U1UES2ARF4/GG960U1OYM2ARF4/G960U1UES2ARF4 696.28MB) Not yet updated.
WiFi Calling - Works
Minimize App down to Icon - Works
Minimize Call App to Icon - Works
(You just need to know how to do that)
=====================
1•During a call, split the screen.
2•Choose the app you want to use during call.
3•Select a Call App.
4•Press on Split Menu.
5•Place Call App on the top layer
(Now you can move it around the screen).
6•Tap on Minimize Button
(Now you can move the App Icon around the screen).
Or even do the opposite, put another app on top of the Call App(See attachment).
You can do that with most of the apps.
FM Chip is ACTIVATED/UNLOCKED
UPDATE!
I did an update as soon as I got to the WiFi.
The first thing that I checked was the FM Chip using NextRadio. "Listen To FM" appeared and was able to use "Basic Tuner" to tune to local stations.
Some people say here that FM Chip still doesn't work.
Make sure you plug in your headphones. Because without it it will NOT work.
Have not tested anything else so far. Maybe will update this post in the future.
I have t-mobile and updated 2 nights ago and it's been working good for me so far. No hickups or anything that I've noticed. GS9+
Ffs will they ever fix the **** battery life of the exynos chipped phones ?
I'm on Exynos S9 UK unlocked and was happy to see that I now have VoLTE after the update, even get a little "HD" call quality icon when using it. Network is EE.

Thanks- yes I see that and can shrink it to a functional mini dial screen or down to Icon - very good.
Have you noticed any problems with the ARF 4 Update - I am stalling it cause my S9 is very very good on battery - SOT very long and I am afraid ARF 4 will change that.
ALSO - the one user who h.g ad trouble with ARF 4 - there is an even NEWER update now ...go right to that one maybe nefore resetting everything (?).
Anyway - I hope these Updates are efficient so they don't heat up the phone AND NOT add background processes which can't be stopped.
Meaning - don't show up in Battery Stats but increase Device Idle current draw on Battery etc .
Baraban - I have the SAME Tmobile Device but use on Metro and am stalling the Update because:
My performance ESPECIALLY SOT on 4GLTE is very very good .
Are you getting great SOT on your Device and that's why you did not Upgrade ?
750 meg for security patches sounds odd to me...
Not a Dev but somehow I don't think I need it if phone working great now ...lol.

Pixel 4/4 XL HDMI/DisplayPort Alt Mode Kernel?

I read that the Pixel 4 and 4 XL have DisplayPort Alt Mode disabled on the Kernel and was wondering if anyone has made or started working on a custom Kernel that enables this feature? Is it even possible? Yeah I know I can use Chromecast or cast via WiFi but nothing beats a direct HDMI connection due to virtually no input lag etc.
Thanks.

Based on no replies in over 65 views I would say no, but you may have better luck posting this over in the Kernels section. That, and maybe linking to the piece you found on this disabled feature waiting to be unlocked.

No, unfortunately its still not possible. It is 100% hardware capable and only blocked at the Kernel level unlike Pixel 1-3. It's entirely possible to one day have it enabled but right now it doesn't seem to be a priority for any of the great Kernel devs we have here which is completely understandable. Although there are a bunch of us that would love to have this feature, its still a niche feature and so devs priorities are focused on the broader features for us. I read that Google MAY activate the display out over usb when stadia launched as that would make a lot of sense to tout as a feature but that hasn't happened yet and I'm not holding my breath.
Honestly, I'd be ecstatic just to have display out over WiFi (Miracast) enabled and there is a magisk module that enabled it on Pie for the Pixel 2-3, I loved having that when I was still on my Pixel 2 XL.

Where did you get the information that the pixel 4 xl (I have only tried it on the XL model since I don’t own the regular one) is actually capable of this?
I have seen none other source of information than the google commits disabling it in the kernel.
I enabled it at kernel level and all I got was a freeze when the phone booted.

I've read it from multiple sources. I was seeing it quite a bit shortly after the phone was released and haven't seen anything about it recently but I've found an article for you showing the information I was talking about:
Via AndroidPolice:
"A commit has been found in the Android source code that disables DisplayPort over the USB Type-C port in the Pixel 4. The commit message simply reads, "Disable DP function."
The link to the whole article is:
"Pixel 4 has USB video output disabled in software" https://www.androidpolice.com/2019/11/03/pixel-4-has-usb-video-output-disabled-in-software/?amp
It's possible Google never finished it implementing the feature or maybe it didn't work fully before they had to release the phone. Is there any chance you want to PM me a copy of your kernel with it enabled? I have a couple of ideas on trying to get it fully enabled and working semi-reliably.

Yes all these articles base back to the commit that actually disables the function in the display driver. There´s no source of information that the Pixel 4 XL is actually capable of doing it. I think that´s why they disabled it.
So I don´t understand why you think the phone is 100% hardware capable of doing this, if you have no other information.
The phone freezes before the bootanimation comes up when the commit is reverted. So I´m not sure what you want to do that doesn´t involve recompiling the kernel with additional changes of your own.
I´d need to recompile the kernel as I did this already last year and the kernel is by now incompatible with the current firmware.

Yeah that wasn't the actual source I heard that from, like I said this was coming up on a year ago so I'll likely never find the sources.
Look, I mean you're most likely right about it not being a possibility, I know you have more knowledge of this stuff than I do so I'll take your word. I gave up on this a long time ago I was just replying to the OP with what I remembered. I have Chromecasts on my house TV's so it's not even relevant to me anymore.
What's your view on enabling display-out over WiFi? Outside of a Chromecast I mean. There was a magisk module for the Pixel 2 on Pie that re-enabled the Miracast support that Google disabled.

Question Anyone else?

Hey anyone else with this phone to start testing new stuff on it?
Got the Chinese version. Flashed the global firmware and changed the channel to reteu with working OTA's.
Will write a guide in the coming days, feel free to ask me about anything you want to know.
I just received the phone, seemed like a store here had a issue allowing me to get the phone early.
If you've got questions, let me know. I do seem to notice a bug with the screen refresh rate set to "auto". It wont go up to 144hz by itself and at low display brightness it seems to stay on 90. Forcefully setting it to 144hz does work wonderfully though.

Do you have the global version? Would be great if you could take three pictures in pro mode with everything set to auto and DNG enabled. (One from each lens). My model produces weird raw results for the main camera, I just want to make sure that it is software related.
You can also see in the viewfinder that the main camera seems to be way less contrasty and saturated than the other lenses.
Also: what's your build number / software version?

Yes I have the global version; Motorola Edge 30 Ultra. I can try the photo situation when it's light again. My build number is S3SQ32.16-16-28.

Does Google Pay and NFC work correctly? Is the chinese hardware exactly the same as Global this time?

Just checking resellers. You can get the chinese version flashed with global rom already on Aliexpress for £599 for 256gb. Cheapest you can get chinese version that you will need to flash yourself is £530 and that's 128GB only. So might be better to buy it already flashed. Moto UK you can get 10% of for official version which is £675

NFC is toggleable and Google Wallet opens without a problem. As I have never used Google Pay before I dont know how to test it.
I would not buy a flashed version to be honest. If you want a converted phone you should do it yourself to learn what you are doing and maybe be knowledgable enough to handle problems when they arise.

You can get your firmware from Lenovos / Motorolas Rescue and Smart Assistant:
Rescue and Smart Assistant (RSA) - Lenovo Support DE
support.lenovo.com
Use the rescue function with your phone plugged in, start the download and you can unplug the phone.
Firmware can be found at "C:\ProgramData\RSA\Download\RomFiles" after the download.
Would be great if you could share the zipped Firmware with us. Maybe on Google Drive or mega.
These zips dont contain any personal information.

Can confirm that for me the main camera also produces weird results in pro mode with raw output. The output also seems to be way more dull than what the view finder suggests.
New full software Motorola Edge 30 Ultra
EQS_G_S3SQ32.16_16_28_subsidy_DEFAULT_regulatory_DEFAULT_cid50_CFC.xml
3.3 GB file on MEGA
mega.nz
How i can update this firmware if i have installed Magisk ( root )

Okay thats good for all of us imo. I already contacted Motorola's camera team about the issue, hoping they'll fix it.
@onken: Thanks for the upload! I am not 100% sure but in theory:
1. Patch the new boot.img from the new firmware via magisk on your phone.
2. Put it into your new firmware folder and name it boot_magisk.img
3. Open the flashfile.xml and copy paste the contents into this website.
4. Reboot to fastboot, open a cmd window in your firmware folder and use the fastboot commands from the website but SKIP "fastboot erase userdata".
5. Reboot into fastboot and flash boot_magisk.img to keep root.
Maybe you need to skip the other "erase" commands as well, not quite sure.
Does anyone happen to know why oem unlocking in developer options is greyed out?
Might be related to your purchase date. I've read that sometimes people need to wait 7 days before it is available on other Motorola phones. Might also be available after factory reset.
I think must wait 96h, about 5 days
Possible work fasted if reset to factory ?

Damn, that's ridiculous. I guess I have to wait for a little while, already tried factory resetting twice.

I think its related to "Widerrufsrecht" or whatever its called in other EU countries. You could unlock, decide that you dont like the phone and just return it and noone would probably check if the warranty is void.
Here is an official Motorola post on the issue. Sometimes takes up to a week.
Edit: But on the other hand, unlocking your bootloader can not void your warranty in the EU afaik.
