Hello, longtime reader, first-time poster.
I am trying to revive an HP TouchPad that is behaving strangely. Let me first start with the background of this tablet.
Background:
I believe that this TouchPad was bought in the fire sale. From the information I can gather, it was barely used. The only major hardware problem with this tablet is that the micro USB port is partially broken. To charge the tablet, I have to bend the cable toward the back of the tablet.
The Problem:
I can charge the tablet from my computer, anything else does not work (I assume it is because of the amperage). When I plug it into my computer, the home button immediately lights up. However, the left side of the home button stays on longer than the right side (the left side lights up for about 4 seconds and then alternates to the right but quickly goes back to the left). I this normal? I have also noticed that even after I unplug the TouchPad, the light still stays on for some time. When it is left charging on my computer for some time, it flashes the battery with ? symbol. I have also seen it go through a loop where it flashes the home button, then shows a low battery icon, and then quickly shows the battery with ? symbol.
I have read that you need to perform the tp debrick to fix the battery with ? symbol. However, when I plug it in and hold the correct buttons (for longer than 30 seconds), tp debrick v005 says something like QDSL mode not found (I forgot what it said exactly). I think that this is due to the faulty micro USB port, as when I plug it into my computer (which is running Windows 10) and hold the same buttons, Windows says that I plugged in an unknown device and that the device is not responding. When other people plug in their TouchPads that are in the same state, Windows gives them a name that is similar to QDLS or something like that. I am thinking of getting a broken TouchPad off of eBay and transferring its USB board to my TouchPad. There is an iFixit guide on how to do that. If all goes well, I think I will be able to perform the tp debrick.
So, I would appreciate it if anyone had any suggestions for me. If you need more information about the tablet, just ask. Thanks.
Well, I bought the broken TouchPad. If anyone has any tips for opening a TouchPad without breaking the clips, I would appreciate it.

When the Home button LED blink side to side , it means the battery is very low, the Tablet is working properly and not brick.
A charger of 5.3 volts 2.0 amps, must be use. Nothing else, no usb on computer or any other charger.
The battery will not take a charge using any other type of charger and will not boot.
It could take a couple of days for a depleted battery to be fully charge or boot up.
My recommendation is to use the correct charger before trying to fix the usb board.
It is very easy to change any of the internal components, is all screws. When removing the screen make sure to use plastic material to prevent damage to the edges. Use two or three plastic openers to slowly open it from different parts. Some clips could break, but it can be snap back again even with few remaining clips.
This is a guide that explains the symbols and what to do:

Thank you, HP_TOUCHPAD. I will leave my TouchPad on the original charger untill the broken TouchPad arrives, which will be next Wednesday or Tuseday. How ever, I do not under stand how charging it on the original charger will give it any power. If I plug it into my computer, the home light imdediatley lights up. If I plug it in to the original charger, it does not.

Is the original charger USB cable the same that it came with the Tablet?
As you know the USB cable can be detach from the charger.
Are you using the same USB cable from the original charger when connecting to PC?
The LED light should blink either way, when connecting to PC or original charger.
Try connecting another device to the original charger and see if it works.

Not all USB cables are the same, make sure the cable works properly for charging.
If the Touchpad is getting power when connected to PC but not from the original charger, then something is wrong with the charger or cable, not the Tablet.

I have tested both the cable and the charger, and both work properly. I have noticed that the charger is a little warm but the TouchPad is not. It has been on the original charger for around 2 days now.

For all lithium batteries to take charge when depleted, it must be in a warm environment. It will need to be above 85 Fahrenheit, is all a chemical reaction. Also try this, without the USB cable connected to the Tablet:
Press and hold at the same time Power + Volume Down ( key closer to Home ) and Home for about 1 minute or until the Table boots or the LED blink, then connect to charger. Look at this guide picture:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/hp-touchpad-debrick-linux-live-cd.4189245/
Sometimes the Tablet will freeze and a force reset is need it to make it charge. It will not take charge when is in a frozen state.

Sorry, I did not have enough time to try your suggestions. However, the broken TouchPad came but it's screen isn't damaged like in the listing pictures. When I plug it into the original charger, the home button lights up. I will let it stay on the charger for the night.

I have left the tablet on the charger overnight. It is still flashing the home button light. I tried turning it on this morning but it didn't turn on. Both the charger and tablet are somewhat warm. How long should I wait for it to turn on?
Good news! The TouchPad I bought from eBay booted to the battery with ?. However, since this has a functioning USB port, I was able to perform tp debrick v005 on it. It successfully boots to WebOS and Cyamogenmod! Thanks for all the help! This isn't the original tablet I was hoping to revive, but at least I have a working one! Also, what is the latest version of Android that has everything working on the TouchPad? I want to upgrade it from its current Android version.
I need help. When I try to transfer the Android files to the HP TouchPad using TPtoolbox, Windows says that there is an F drive that I have to format before I use it. In the tutorials, a drive labeled HP TOUCHPAD or something like that shows in Windows, and you can put the Android files inside of the ttinstall folder. Should I format the drive and if so, what format?

The TPtoolbox can only be use to flash an specific ROM, and that was 10 years ago.
Follow this guide that allows to flash all Android ROM ever made for the tablet:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...all-android-roms-with-swap-partition.3901773/
The Automatic Wipe All will make the Tablet 100% Android with swap and install TWRP which is use to flash all the ROMs:
https://www.mediafire.com/folder/caibu8meh2qbd/Automatic_Wipe_All_and_Create_Android_with_Swap
Download the zip file and flash it with the recovery that is on the tablet now, do not use the TPtoolbox to flash.

HP_TOUCHPAD, how can I get the TWRP files onto the TouchPad if I can not access its drive from my computer? Even if I use the WebOS drive mode, I still cannot get in. Also, disk manager says that the TouchPad has a RAW file system.

The guide provides all the details even videos:
I can not explain the same here what I already have done in the guide.
The Novacom Repair is a Linux OS with all the required drivers and files to fix any issues with the Tablet. There is nothing a user can do to brick the Tablet, everything is very easy to fix with just one click.
Flash the Wipe_All from the guide and it will do everything, even install TWRP which is the App that allows to flash any Android ROM.
After the Tablet has been setup using Wipe_All, it will boot into TWRP.
Then use this guide to Flash any Android version you want with all the optimization files and options.

I have a HP Touchpad that I just opened from its box, so its brand new running stock HP WebOS. The thing is, I bought the tp almost 15 months ago and never unboxed it until yesterday. When I put it up for charging, the dead battery symbol appears( rectangle with a red dash at the bottom and flash on top) and doesn't seem to charge.
Can anyone tell me if this means that my battery has died since it was unused for such a long time?
Or is there anything else that I can do to spring it back to life?
P.S I've tried almost every combination of buttons, e,g Power+Home, Power+Home+Vol Up etc.
Any suggestions on this will be extremely helpful. Thank you very much!

I have no idea if this will work, but you might try it:
http://www.slashreboot.com/journal/2012/8/18/an-odd-hp-touchpad-charging-problem.html
Here's another miscellaneous advice:
The round part of the charger, that the USB plugs into. That can twist open and closed to remove the part with the plugs. Make sure its fully tight. They can become loose, which prevents them from working.
Hold the power and home buttons down (not the volume +). press these together and hold them down for 30 seconds (actually shouldn't be that long, but it cant hurt)
If its still not working. Let it charge overnight and try again.

Thanks, I'll try that.
Perhaps not quite the same problem, but what I had fail on mine was the HP USB cable - The little contacts must have gotten dirty or something because the Touchpad just wouldn't charge unless I bent the connector in the socket a little.
Not too keen on that so I now use a different USB cable and it's fine.
I also agree with the above, use the dedicated charger supplied and not a USB port.
Hello guys,
I'm new here at the HP Touchpad Section and XDA-Dev Forums.
I am running CM7 on our HP Touchpad and my little brother has been fiddling with it(downloading many apps from the playstore using my personal account, thus forcing me to create a new google account/other shiz).
Then one time, the screen kept turning on and off without us even touching it. Our guess was it was dust on the screen which is being register as touch.
After a week or so that that was happening, the touchpad ran out of battery and was not charged right away.
The result, it won't charge anymore.
Is there anyway to open the device and shock the battery? It may be a dead battery just like what happened to my sister's iPhone.
I've also been reading some charging issues with CM7 and CM9 and tried some of their troubleshooting methods but non worked.
If I just get a little juice to boot it, I would reboot back to webOS as fast as I can and uninstall CM7.
Thanks in advance,
Raphael

Try leaving it on the stock charger for several hours, maybe days. If you have a touchstone, try that.
If you get it to charge (make sure it's fully charged), uninstall CM7 using acmeuninstaller, then boot into webos. If you have preware installed fine, if not install it and download 'remove android' (or something like that). Run it, then install either CM9 or cm10, using acmeinstaller3. There are several good how-to's which you can search for here or at webos nation forum.
When you have it installed, go to settings > storage and click on the 3 little squares on the upper right hand side, and click on usb computer connection. Then make sure the MTP box is checked.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

Thans for the reply chicle_11! Will try that on the weekends since I am very busy with school works. And thanks for the suggestion of installing CM9/CM10 but I will just stick to webOS and get an authentic Android Tablet(I'm choosing between Google Nexus 10 or Samsung Note 10.1).
I use webos at least 50% of the time. It's a shame that there aren't more apps compared to android. You don't have anything to lose by installing android. You'll have an excellent and unique dual boot tablet. CM10 is very stable now, I use it as my daily driver, I highly recommend it.

I still might reconsider flashing CM9/CM10 when I sort out the charging problems since I am just starting to save money for the Note 10.1/Nexus10.
Can you recommend a good CM10-based ROM for the HPTP or just the stock CM10 Jcsullins?
I use/recommend jcsullins' cm10.
Make sure MTP is checked (follow my first post) and that should take care of the charging problems.
Also, try to not let the battery run out of power. It could possibly brick the tablet.
It seems that I have somewhat sorted out the charging problems. I read an article last night that Samsung Chargers also work for the HPTP.
The process is fairly simple. Use the Samsung Charger first to charge a phone. After 2 hours or so, use that charger for the HPTP to charge the touchpad from a used/electrified wire. During the other process, use the HPTP Charger for the phone to power the cord up. After 10mins or so, switch both chargers. So the HPTP should be using the one that came with it by this time.
It worked for a while then the "Please use the charging cable that came blah blah blah to fully charge..." message came. I've read another article that the touchpad should be a little elevated or at least level with the cord so the cord will not fall down that is causing the message to pop up.
I've used both methods and the 2nd method is working like a charm. It shows a battery sign with a lightning bolt and the charging warning/message does not pop up. Will leave it overnight to see if it charges.
Then after, I might reinstall CM9(I've been from CM9 but downgraded to CM7 because of camera issues w/c my lil bro does not like).
So I left it overnight and it charged when I used the 2nd Method. Happy Days!

Sorry, That was late night here in the PHL and was a bit sleepy when I was posting that.
Also have dead touchpad
I haven't been able to see any life from my touchpad after the battery completely drained. Its been 2 days since I haven't been able to use it.
I've tried charging it via the cable and adapter that came with it for a couple of hours, left my TP on the touchstone all afternoon to morning and no life either, the touchpad however is a bit warm at the back. Does that indicate its charging?
my TP is sitting on the touchstone now but I've replaced the AC adapter and currently using my HTC Sensation plug, I am running out of ideas and I'm going to presume its completely dead.........
I've tried connecting it to the pc but nothing happens, Can someone help me out, I've also tried the button combinations "Home, Home+Power and Home+Power+VolumeUp"
I tried both of the methods mentioned a couple of posts ago with no success.
I have also left it on the regular AC charger for 48+ hours and a Samsung cell phone charger for another 48+ hours and nothing.
It is sitting on the Touchstone now for 36+ hours and nothing yet.
I sent HP an email and here is what they said to try:
"We gather from your mail that your Touchpad is unresponsive and will not turn on. To be able to help you with this issue please take note of the following troubleshooting steps:
First of all leave the device on charge with charger for 48 hours after do the following:
Press and hold the power button + Center for 15 seconds. The device may take a few minutes to restart.
Please do the above with the device connected to the charger. (not charging dock nor PC).
Press and hold the power button + volume Up + Center and continue holding for 5 seconds after the Full Erase screen appears.
Also please try the above steps with another USB cable, also please try to connect the USB to the computer with the touchpad, if the computer doesn't recognize the device, the USB cable is faulty.
Please try your charger on another device to see if this charges the device. As the issue could be that the AC adaptor that is not working.
Have you tried another charger with the Touchpad? In order to verify where is the problem. Regarding to your problem ,do you know if the problem is with the charger itself or with the USB cable? Have you tried the complete charger with another Device, phone?
If the steps given do not help you with this issue, please send us a Proof of Purchase (scan of store`s receipt attached to your response) to validate your warranty or the order creation date of your device and your address.

None of that worked either. I just get the "Palm device" balloon on Windows XP when I hold the Power+Volume Up + Center button. It looks for drivers but never finds them.

Nothing after trying that and leaving it on the Touchstone for 48+ hours. Time to leave it plugged up to the computer for 48+ hours and see what happens.
Nothing after 48+ with the factory USB cable connected to a desktop computer.
It would be nice to see a solution that works every time instead of a bunch of guesses.

First my observations on three 32 GB TP's:
My discharge rate on WebOS in Airplane mode was arround -613 to -850mA. Screen on, (brightness affects this).
3. My discharge rate on CM10 in Airplane mode is about -520mA!!
4. A PC's USB port puts out 500mA's!!!
5. On the touchstone, (doesn't seem to matter if WiFi is on or off), with screen on 1/3 brightness + Battery Monito Widget = +853 to 945mA
6. On HP charger & cable, same as above = +1,377mA
What suprised me was the greater drain in WebOS.
You PC's USB port may be causing further discharge to the 2% TP's auto shut-off!
Actually none of these goofy button pressing and charging methods was right. A6 was faulty. It is fixed now.

My TouchPad discharged overnight and now just has a black screen. None of the button pressing or charging suggestions described in these forums has worked for me. I was just running webOS 3.0.5. No version of Android was on the TouchPad.
Please tell me the trick you used to revive your dead TouchPad. Was it just a problem with your Andriod OS?
Much thanks.

Hello everyone,
I installed a JB rom a few weeks ago on my TP (can't remember which one)...it worked for a little while, then i wanted to flash something additional and it seems to be bricked ever since and has been laying around...which is why I can't remember what exactly I wanted to flash
Anywho, if i connect it to the PC the notification LED on the home button is blinking..but that's it. no combination of power/voldownup/home button seems to be working and when I try to run webos doctor it doesn't recognise my device.
can anyone please help me?
When you say bricked. Do you mean stuck in a boot loop wouldn't turn on etc.
Have you had it connected to the stock charger or better still on a touchstone and if so for how long.
The more information you can give the better.
No it doesn't turn on at all, screen stays black.
It's been connected to what i think is the stock cable to my pc (there are too many Micro-USB cables laying around here ) for about an hour now and i just put it on the touchstone (LEDs are still flashing)..
Leave on the Touchstone for at least a few hours preferably overnight then hold the power and volume up buttons for at least 30 seconds if nothing happens do the same with power and home buttons and post any progress or lack of, but the first thing is to try and put some charge into it and the best for that imo is the Touchstone.

The stock cable for the touchpad has a silver dot at each end. I have two touchpads ad the connection is very loose and unreliable. It often won't charge. I bought new Micro USB charge/sync cables and charging is no longer an issue.
The USB port on your computer is not powerful enough for anything it trickle charge. You need a stock touchpad charger.
Well i charged on the touchstone and then after a few hours i was able to boot into recovery and flash a new rom problem solved, thanks anyway!
This Z1s was working fine
I used TWRP to recover a backup from another Z1s I had. I am not sure if it was a good backup.
When TWRP completed, I rebooted, and the phone failed reboot, and now will not turn on. Battery was under around 50-60% I think.
1) FLASHING RED light every second when connected to charger or PC.
2) Not recognized by Flashtool or Sony Companion.
3) Red button doesn't do anything
4) Cannot get this to do anything but flash red when connected to charger or PC/
Anyone know any ideas? Will the TEST POINT fix work for this Z1s c6916 ? There doesn't seen to be any mention of people bricking or fixing C6916 Z1s phones? THere doesn't see to be any repair files for the C6916 for unbricking .
Ideas?
Thanks
Tried another cable/charger?
I once had the concidence it was drained fully and the cable broken at the same time. Took me a while to figure that one out...

Blinking red LED means mormaly Battery is dead.
I had this problem yesterday on 80% Battery...
I think, Batery Stats or smilar is corupted
Disconnect your device from your computer and try to shut down your Z1 by pressing power button and vol+ (Alternative you can try the reset button near SIM) Maybe it needs some tries
Charging on AC via wall plug may be necessary.
Reconnect in fastboot mode. Flash via fastboot a working boot.img incl. TWRP.
Reboot to recovery and restore a backup from your device. Don't try to reboot system. This will bring you back to yor blinking red LED... But the best way is to flash new Firmware via Flashtool in Flashmode.
Don't use backups from other devices. To recover containing apps and data you can try Nandroid Manager from Playstore . But sometimes restoring app data dont work (Different AndroidIDs...) You can also use Nandroid Manager to browse your backups and extract somthing. NM supports TWRP and CWM backups.
Thanks for reply but nothing is working.
I can get the phone to do a soft reset and get 3 vibrations, but phone will not go into flashmode (volume down plus POWER).
In other words, phone will not respond to FLASHTOOL or PC companion. routine. Tried multiple cables. Connected to a few different working wall chargers.
When connected to a PC, the phone will now do a connect , reconnect loop. switching from solid red, to no light, and back and forth., every minute or so.
me too
this happened to me when i was too impatient and now the battery is dead and i cant charge it
anyone know how to fix it? i dont really want to take it to sony or change a battery
Volume down then plug into USB

Did you try leaving it overnight on a charger? Did you try using PC Companion to restore the device to stock?
ok i solved it by charging it with 4 AAA batteries and a cut micro usb cable.
btw i couldn't connect to pc at all because the battery was dead, no bootloader or flash mode until i charged it with batteries
cut micro usb cable?

Hi there I'm scouring the forums for somebody in a similar position to myself....
firstly, thanks in advance if you are able to even inch me in the right direction!
What is meant by a cut micro USB cable?
It seems very odd that charging via a charger that uses triple-A batteries as a source would make a difference, what made you think to try this and what actual difference would it make?
My Issue:
I stupidly hit backup from sdcard0 in CWM after having wiped the internal memory.... So this I guess is like backing up from a blank image? However I could be wrong on this point.
Now I get:
-No flashmode or fastboot is accessible....
-The phone turns on (sometimes with a vibrate, sometimes without), shows Sony splash screen then stays on a blank black backlit screen.
-The device gets much hotter than it does during normal operation, the battery seems to run out quickly after it is unplugged.
-The hard reset (inside of the sim card slot) resets the device with the 3 short vibrates as it always has
-If placed on charge the device wont stay in an 'off' state, always boots
-When connected to windows 7 x64, the device is recognized as "C6903" and has sony_adb drivers installed against it, (MTP is disabled in devices, I have also disabled auto-install devices in group policy because this was causing mayhem, PC Companion is also not running). Flashtool by Androxyde returns me an error saying device drivers must be installed, of course I have run through the driver installer and installed the correct Z1 drivers on the PC. It also informs me that I need to make sure the device isnt in MTP mode, which is why I've disabled and uninstalled the MTP driver under devices.
-I was briefly able to get adb to recognize the device on the command line but it was accompanied by saying "Unauthorized"
I've tried to include as much detail as possible to help my cause, and your post seemed to be fairly close to mine in terms of relevancy.
I've done a lot of trawling, and learned a lot on the way, certainly about android devices for future use! I certainly wouldn't have all the knowledge I have now unless I'd screwed up in the first place!
If any can lend any help that would be much appreciated!
Kind Regards
John

Ahhh...the situation of non system mode........Normally I always have this when I wipe system then turn off the phone and plug into the charger. Flashing ROM will solve this instantly...But for your case, I think the bootloader has some serious corruption (due to eMMC or the phone it self)
First, I dont really know much about all the details, this is what i think. sorry for the late reply btw
So i think theres this thing with phone chargers, my guess is that it connects with the phone's system to see how much its charged.
when the battery is around 100 or 99% full, the charger would stop charging and wait till it dropped to 98 or 97%. (i guessed the numbers)
batteries doesnt do all this complicated stuff, and if you leave it connected for too long it will damage your batteries.
In my case i waited for around 30 minutes using 4AAA batteries,
which means its supplying the phone 1.5v time 4 =6volts, a voltage higher than the standard sony charger,
i dont think it'll damage the batteries if you only connect them for a short time.
there are lots of ways to connect batteries to phones, google it.
actually im not sure how to do it myself because i actually used an interesting electronic part removed from a device
but its kinda hard to describe what it is, tell me if you want to know
after your phone is charged for some time you should be able to connect it to pc again
if it doesnt, charge it some more until you think your phone is gonna explode
once you connect to your pc you flash the boot.img file from your desired rom, most of the time it gives you a working recovery
twrp, no matter where it came from, it never worked with me, just saying
you should charge your phone in recovery afterwards, you dont need to do anything, just leave it plugged to a wall or pc while in recoevery
hope it works!
fun trivia: if you keep swiping down while in the cwm based recovery it will give you a rainbow mode. check it out

I just want to say that i am really impressed with your idea about charging the phone with 4 AAA batteries. last year this day, 26 december, i bricked my phone while flashing that troubled version of 4.3 and went to service to get repaired it. and it took 4 months to change the phone for a new one. If i brick my device some day, i am writing your idea down to make the phone work again.

from a laptop cooler
This morning my Teclast X98 battery was down to 5% in Android. I shut down the tablet and connected it to a charger. The moment I connected the tablet to the charger the tablet started to boot. It showed a red charging battery overlay and shut itself down again immediately. The tablet ended up in a bootloop from which there is no escape.
I've had this same problem once before. A couple of weeks ago I somehow managed to get the Tablet into BIOS settings, boot into Windows and perform a shutdown from there. When I shut down from Windows the tablet wil stay off when I connect a charger.
No such luck this time. After 50 or so reboots, with me trying to get into the BIOS settings, the pattern changed. Instead of showing the red battery overlay, the tablet would show warning messages that it could not display the red battery overlay:
ConvertBmpToGopBltofBATMonitor failure
GraphicsOutput -> Blt failure...
One thing that complicates this is that my tablet will not charge anymore when powered on. It only charges when powered off. So it now toggles between: Powered off and charging / Powered on and not charging. It's a known problem when you've used a USB OTG charging hub. Read the comment section on that YouTube video. That guy has tried everything (and so did I).
What options do I have right now?
Leave the tablet in this bootloop, hoping that it will eventually stop booting and start charging
Contact the seller, report the problem and ask for a solution
Take the BIOS chip out and try to charge the tablet without BIOS chip
I managed to get out of this boot loop.
I opened the tablet and unsoldered pin 1 of the EPROM. This prevented the tablet from booting, but it would still charge. I charged it for a couple of hours, soldered pin 1 of the EPROM back and I am now using the X98 again.
If anyone needs some more information, I will search for pictures and write a tutorial.
I still have this problem where the tablet starts automatically as soon as I connect a charger. This only happens if I power off in Android. If I reboot to Windows first and then power off everything is fine. If anyone knows a solution to this problem I can prevent this from ever happening again.

Hi. Got this problem since last week and I'm really upset, since I've searched a lot and found no solution at all. I've resoldered white and red battery wires but no success... Could you help me with this tutorial about EPROM?
And do you still get these messages when charging if last boot was from Android? Or these characters are gone? Thanks for any kind of help!

Yeah, doing the thing with the battery wires did not work for me as well.
If you want to charge your tablet only once, you can use this trick I used:
Open up the tablet
Find the BIOS-chip
Remove the metal heat sink around the chip (it comes off easy)
Now unsolder pin 1. Heat the pin until the solder melts and then push the pin loose with a very small screwdriver
Now charge the tablet. The battery will probably get warm (not hot), and so might some of the chips. The heat will get less when the tablet has been charging for a couple of hours
Solder pin 1 back again
This is the location of the BIOS chip. It is the chip at the bottom of the picture below.

In the picture below the heat sink has been removed. Pin 1 is indicated with a grey dot on the bottom right corner of the BIOS chip.
Another solution, if your tablet does not charge at all when powered on. I did manage to get my tablet charging again with a custom USB cable. This is the video from 1KeNnY1KeNnY1 descibing the solution:
I bought these USB connectors from China on eBay (adafruit sells one too) and these resitors also from eBay. If you need the components fast I'm sure you can find them in a local electronics shop.
You will also need a very stable hand and a lot of patience to solder the USB connector. Make sure you get a few of them because you will probably ruin the first one.
Then:
Find a USB cable that charges with a decent charge. Make sure the wire is not too thick for the new USB connector.
Cut off the mico-usb connector and strip the wires
Solder the red wire to pin 1, and the black wire to pin 5
Solder the 2.2 kOhm resistor between pin 1 and pin 4
Do not connect the green and the white wire. If you do, Windows will think you connected a malfunctioning device when you use the custom cable.
Here's an image showing which colour goes where.
And this image shows you all the pin numbers:
Wow! Great tutorial, man. Thanks a lot!! Wish more people have your kind spirit and help others with less knowledge.
If I understood it right, first option gives me one full charge but I will have to open tablet again when battery is empty, and the bootloop error isn't gone. The second will let me charge it normally but only using the new modified cable and the anoying error is gone forever... Is that right?
I will try these methods asap this week and reply to you.
Many thanks!
Have a nice day.

You can still charge the tablet when it is off, and it won't charge when the tablet is on, right? I've searched through your posts but gave up after a couple of them. So I'm not really sure if your problem is exactly the same as mine. Could you copy-paste your initial problem report here in this thread?
I'm using Windows on my Teclast x98 so I used to hibernate my tablet automatically after 30 minutes of inactivity. When the tablet is off, it will start charging. And because the power off was triggered in Windows, the tablet will not boot automatically when the charging starts.
If you use Android, you're out of luck. You will have to boot into Windows and then shutdown the tablet from there to get it to charge. That's a major hassle. And if you forget it once and Android keeps running until the battery is too low, you will end up with the same problem you have now.
The custom cable is the best solution if your tablet does not charge when powered on. Other solutions will kill you tablet pretty fast. Doing too many hibernations will ruin the SSD. Desoldering the BIOS chip will also fail after 10 times or so. In both cases the tablet is ruined.

Thanks again for your help!!
No, I can't charge because when I plug it to energy, this bootloop starts and battery seems not to charge at all! When it enters in this bootloop state, pressing the power button does nothing. Pressing it for 10 seconds does nothing. Pressing power plus volume does nothing too. When I unpplug tablet from power, I get no response from it, just a black screen.
Before this happens, charging was working ok, I could charge it from both OS and didn't matter if it was on or completely shutted down. One day I was using it (don't remember in which system) and battery started to deplete itself from nowhere, so I plugged the original charger with original cable, as always. But they stopped working, battery discharged and then it was gone...
Ok, thanks for your patience and all information. I will try modding the cable, then I post here the results.
Have a nice day.

That sounds a lot like my problem.
I do not think the custom cable will get you out of this situation. My cable doesn't provide a lot of power (about 0.6A or 3W). When I use the tablet with the cable connected, the battery still drains slowly. So the cable does not provide enough power for the tablet to run. Booting the tablet uses even more power.
I think you will have to jump start your tablet and charge the battery once like I did. After that you can use the cable to prevent the tablet from losing all its power again. This works for me in Windows where I can put the tablet to sleep. During sleep it will charge slowly. I haven't tried Android yet. I will do some tests in the next couple of days.

I've done some tests today:
If the tablet boots it uses more power and the battery discharges, even with the custom USB cable connected
Charging under Android is very slow (approximately 10% / hour) if you are just browsing some websites. If you run a game or set the brightness of the screen higher I'm sure the battery will discharge
It is possible to power off the tablet from Android with the custom USB cable connected
The tablet needs more power then the USB cable supplies while booting. So you will not be able to revive your dead tablet with the USB cable alone. You will need to do the trick with desoldering pin 1 of the BIOS chip. I called that "jump start" in my previous post, but the comparison to jump starting a car is totally not obvious or correct.

What a pain to have bought this tablet. I thought it was a great choice, but one year later I'm dealing with BIOS and battery wires and modded USB cables.
Thanks for all the good info. You are great!

Friend,
Sorry for the long delay, but I had other problems with this tablet (the flex power cable broke) and for a long moment I gave up using it.
So here is the situation: I've fixed the charger and the other problems, and now I can turn it on but there are no OS anymore, it goes directly to a shell. I can access the UEFI settings and tried installing Windows via pen drive, but when it gets to the screen which allows me to choose the drive to install, it is empty. System is not recognizing eMMC anymore... Do you have any hint on this?
I think it's been a year or more since I use this device for the las time, and it will be great to get it back working.
Thanks for your time again! =)

hi, can I ask how did you solve your charging problem?. I have similar situation like yours, my tablet wouldn't hold the charge and it boot loops to shell prompt when connected to power source. I was not able to do the windows installation because once I remove from the power source, the tablet wouldn't bootup.

First you build a custom charging cable with the instructions on this thread. Then you connect a UEFI Windows installation (prepared by Rufus) via pen drive. Make sure you have a HUB to also connect mouse and keyboard. In all my trials so far I ended only being able to boot RemixOS and ChromeOS via live boot with pen drives, but they miss touch input and some drivers. I'm still trying to reinstall Android directly to eMMC, but I don't have much hope left that it will work... I guess this memory is gone with this error.
