Hi! I'm in my 40s and just starting to learn Android! - Introductions

Please be patient with my "stupid" questions.

Android is easy to learn... play with it.
Backup you're critical data redundantly to at least 2 hdds that are physically and electronically isolated from each other and the PC. Androids rarely crash but it does happen, be ready for if it does. Otherwise you will lose data...

If you're familiar with a PC, I'd say that you'll learn quick. IMO usage of android just make sense.

Is there an uninstaller somewhere or do I just go on activesync and delete the folder/file?
You really need to read the manual. All of your questions will be answered there. Posting questions like this is unnecessary.
it takes the same effort for u to tell me that and for u to just give me a quick answer.. thanks for being an ass

And if you actually read the manual, you would spend less time posting inane questions.
Seriously, read the manual. Sit down with your phone and go through all the menus and settings. You will learn so much more about your phone than you could imagine.

Dude, that's just a messed up attitude by you. I spent alot of time helping you with another issue. You are NOT the first person to own this device. Many times before your questions have been asked and answered. We all went thru this and learned by searching and researching, NOT by being spoon fed answers.
You just asked one of the most basic questions I've ever seen asked. And YOU REALLY SHOULD read the manual. The point is, sure we could tell you all the answers, but you know what? We have lives too. We don't post here just to help newbies asking stupid questions that are easily answered by doing the basics like reading the manual or doing a search on the forum.
I'm actually sorry I spent time to help you on the other thread with this callous attitude you disaply here.
Good luck.
sorry guys, i will read, i apologize for my attitude

Thanks...Things work much better here when people both help eachother AND try to help themselves also.
Closing this thread so it can die before becoming another "Flame the Newbie" Argument.
FWIW, both side have valid points on the topic...

diamond wallpapers

Can someone please post all the stock diamond wallpapers for me? i'm most interested in the aquarium one and the standard blue but i'd like to have all of them, if possible. thanks for your time.
They were already published, and if you used Search you'd already know that
I'll give you a link: http://rapidshare.com/files/127631094/wallpaper.rar
Please always Search before posting!

i posted the f-ing link... if you find it there tell me where its at. it was just a simple question, and i didn't need the damn "search police" bugging me... if you're not going to be nice when you answer a question, why bother?
and i just found it... it was a thread i overlooked. but seriously, if its really a bother for you to answer questions, why do it? we all make mistakes... i overlooked it, woohoo... big deal. i'm sure that in you're 70 something posts you've made a mistake.

Well, as you noticed I DID answer your question, and also pointed you politely towards the Search facility which, as you have noticed, would have given you the answer and would spare people from answering the same questions again and again, which is a waste of time and also unnecessarily clogs this forum.
However, I do not take kindly to verbal abuse and to the kind of language you seem to be using here. Once people get beyond the mental age of 10 they usually start talking a different language.
Please remind me not to help you next time.
All the best.

i know you did help and i said thanks... but seriously, it was an honest mistake. and i did eventually find it. and i apologize for the language, but i just get tired of hearing "use the search button"... you want to not use up so much space on the forum, but yet you reply with "search button, search button." just gets a little old is all. if its that big of a deal, then don't bother to be a person that helps people. you should probably give people the benefit of the doubt sometimes.
Although I'm a great opposer of the "reply with 'search!'"-mentality seen around here, pedmond was so kind to take the time to answer your question ánd correct you on your mistake instead of just flaming the hell out of you. He was being anything but the search-Nazi you're making him out to be.
If this'd be a forum of mine, I'd have you slapped and on moderation for a week. There's not agreeing and arguing about it and there's plain verbal abuse.
In any case, glad you found your stuff, and lower your temper a bit. Your kind of replies makes a forum a better place as much as those guys with their search-syndrome do.

Want to root finally

I've had my G1 since Christmas of 08 and I finally decided to root. I jailbroke my ipod touch, and I heard rooting is similar to that, so i'm up for the task. I have firmware 1.6 and build number DMD64.
What exactly do I need to do, and what is the best rom to date that is good to use?

Don't mean to be rude but did you read this before clicking New Thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=543081
Did you search or anything?
You won't get anyone here that's going to hold your hand or do it for you because in the twenty or so minutes that you waiting for the answer to be handed to you you could have found it for yourself by reading the above link and/or searching. So you are in actually just wasting your time posting your question. By the way since you are obviously new to XDA here's a fair warning. There are three types of people on here... those that help, those that are idle (just read but don't post) and those that need everything done for them. What kind do you think your first impression made and what kind of people do you think get flammed by the Senior Members that spend hours every week helping people like yourself by answering the same questions over and over again even after it's already been answered. And you're probably thinking "Instead of writing out this whole damn thing, why didn't he just tell me the answer?" Well because if you don't learn this way you're only going to rely on us from here on out if you are spoon fed. Again, I'm not trying to be a d!ck but if you want to make it here on XDA you have to play by the rules. Happy rooting!

A rooted phone is timeless, you can have any version of Android, whenever you want it. Therefore, it makes sense that an old thread is just as good as a new thread that has the same exact information other than the rom you flash.
Ok, I finished rooting my G1 and got to the HTC v.1.5.2 screen, now i'm going to install a rom
Thanks to all of the guides and youtube videos, I now have Manup456 Eclair 2.1 V1.5 on my G1! Just going back to put back in my ringtones and files. It's like I have a brand new phone!
Havent seen this asked yet but is there a way to root your g1 without a data plan and a data block put on your service (on ATT)

"Seen" well then you were only looking for about 2 seconds then. Google it.
wow, seriously? noone can get any help any more. everyone is just such a **** these days.
anyways, you need a data plan to root ur phone. you personally don't need it, but get a friend that has a data plan and use his SIM card for the procedure. and i'm sure there are some apps that force all data to be stopped and only allow wifi. i know my hero rom has an option to disable all data except for wifi built right in. i used hero_over. but i'm sure all hero roms have that option.

Your method is probably the most "common-sense" idea. We're not being dicks, we're just sick and tired of people not searching before posting, there's about millions of pages on google on the topic but they insist on coming here anyways. He can register through wifi with adb which most people do, so this pretty much contradicts the word "need" in your first statement. I won't carry on because I don't need to because I'd be a "****".

in anycase you're wrong, I haven't seen a question asking if you can root a phone without a data plan and a data block put on your phone.. keyword: DATA BLOCK... yes I am not an idiot.. I do search, why do alot of you seniors post on Q&A with "search please" ... just to get your post count up? Seems pretty regressive on helping people in a questions section.
Thanks to the other poster XD, but isn't there an option to get around it by entering in wifi to supplement the loss of a data plan and the addition of a data block?
Yes you can use no data plan too:

But when you really think about it, what's the point of having a Dream if you don't have a data plan? The majority of what the phone does involves intensive data plan usage, and I don't know about anybody else, but I actually use my device other than sitting at my computer.
Just my two cents.

Best way to become scholar

WHAT Is IMPORTANT IN Us is NEVER LET ANYONE KNOW HOW WE STUDY
I AM SHARING THIS WITH U SO THAT IT SHOULD NOW BECOME A THING KNOWN to everyone
First calm down before studing.
BE CURIOUS ABOUT WHAT U WILL LEARN.
We should study a chapter on three parts first knowing the concept then get to details and then write it down once
1.get to the concept
This is very important as u should know the concept and what matter are u learning be curious and understand the situation the thong is and to get to a level of a scholar, get the thing ur learning in some other situation it will not be given in the text, it actually bends ur mind and makes u think
Get the details.
Details are very important as they help u to get extra marks as everyone dosrnt try to focus on it and try to neglect it
Use details as a plus point to ur studies and as a secrete wepon too.
After every one hour don't forget to take a break of 10 minutes as scientiests says this too.
Write down ur ans once.
Writing concepts can help u to make a pprint of what u have learnt.
This is known as image framing. In our daily life we memorise many images but all of them are stored on our ram we gave to convert it to fixed memory so write without looking.
Have fun play on PC relax simultaneously as stressing too much will make u mad.
Iisten to what ur parents say and focus on ur goal
AND MOST IMPORTANT THROW UR ELECTRONIC EQ 3 MONTHS BEFORE EXAMS

This is true, however we must work around this. How, I do not know. All I know is that we are now scholars (thanks to XDA-Developers forum user scorpio_K) and that we MUST use that fact to our ultimate advantage.

Stranger lands, yet so familiar

Yeah, the title doesn't really make any sense.
But anyways, I'm RandomParable! I'm a software, back-end and front-end developer from time to time, but it's something that I like to keep to myself, mostly because I don't want to inflict pain and suffering on someone else. Other than that, I like to do things for people's eyes, because why not?
Went on here to ask, maybe do some answering depending on that day, about general technical issues.
Maybe I'll regret this, maybe I'll not, who knows! The future is an uncertain mess.
