My touchpad is still going strong. Amazing this old dinosaur is still working. Sadly it's too slow to do much with. I tried setting it up for my toddler, but after numerous attempts at games and whatnot we've given up - just too slow.
My wife asked me if I could at least make it into a clock. I thought adding weather to it would be nice. I used to have this working prior to installing the latest tenderloin OS, but can't seem to make it work now.
Running ev_tenderloin-9-userbuild-2019.08.30, been running OK for over a year.
It sits in the wireless charging cradle.
The OS doesn't have the 'always on' option in settings. At least not that I could find.
I can not find an app in the play store (after trying half a dozen) which will
a. Be an always on clock
b. include weather
I did find one app called "Clock Weather Launcher Clean" which seemed to show promise of at least handling the clock side of it because it had a setting to make it always on, but it's a pay now test later app which times out after 3min. no real way to test if I don't want to take the risk of pay now.
Anyone have any suggestions to making this work?
As always, thanks in advance.
I have to go back and dig through my files. I had one of mine set up this way some time ago.
One suggestion, use a low wattage wall wart instead of the the wireless stand.
I've had two tablets cook off and swell the battery when left on the stand. YMMV.
I have one tablet in the kitchen performing picture frame duties and it has been running for well over a year.
Would love to see what you come up with. Gotcha on the low watt power...
The Tablet will stay awake while charging by enabling developer mode and activate stay awake.
Disable screen saver and activate expandable desktop to show the full app.
Attached are screen shot of Evervolv 7 and 9, both works the same way.
Widgets can be created to show any information, weather, clock or anything else.
The following was tested with just the ROM installed from this guide:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...all-android-roms-with-swap-partition.3901773/
Weather app install by copy APK to tablet:
https://androidapksfree.com/the-weather-channel-the-weather-channel/com-weather-weather/download/
There are apps that force display on, but I did not try it.
https://m.apkpure.com/keep-screen-always-on-while-charging-qi-usb-ac/de.russcity.lockmyscreenon
Evervolv 9 Display always ON while charging, using weather app.

Note about wall warts. The 800mAH I had on the picture frame died. I put on a 500mAH however that is not big enough to keep the unit 'powered' up for continual usage.

The Tablet is the same as any other Android smartphone, but better due to the larger display.
Android can be configure in many different ways, is best to look on-line for what can be done.
You are very welcome!

When you mean " the tablet died", was it due to a physical damage or that the Tablet will not wake up or charge?
Read this post and all others below:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/hp-touchpad-debrick-linux-live-cd.4189245/page-2#post-85997517
After the Tablet is 100% charge any other Android charger can be use and it should keep it charge at all time, but it all depends on the screen brightness as that is what it will consume the most power and heat up the battery.
My recommendation if the Tablet will be all time ON adjust screen brightness to medium or less.

Drat, no, the wall wart died, then the tablet of course followed as long as the battery lasted. It came back to life without any issues once I connected it to a decent PS.
Hello. Did you ever try DAKboard?
Does anyone else have recommended apps to make this tablet into a wall mounted google nest hub?

The Tablet is the same as any Android device.
I have never try DAKboard but it does install and if you have an account then you can use it.
Also it can be use as a viewer for surveillance cameras.

Evening folks
I've finally pimped up my Kaiser just how I like it and I need to know if the today pluggins etc I'm using are sucking the life out of my battery.
The screen shot below shows that when I'm running ActiveSync (direct push), PocketCM & SMS/MMS the memory usage is showing as 61%. Is this high?? I've no idea.

Ive included 2 screen shots from Task Mananger to show the usage.
And finally the battery details
I'm running:
S2U2 (animated gif)
PocketCM
Ultimate Launch
SPB Weather
HTC Home
Calendar+
Batti 2.2 (NEW!)
Always running are
ActiveSync (direct push)
SMS
PocketCM
Can anyone let me know if this is normal or if running all of this is going to mean I need to buy a spare battery! I'm clueless.
Cheers
Re: your question of battery usage:
Well - you do not indicate what your usage currently is - with normal usage what is your battery percent available at the end of YOUR day?
What ROM and RADIO are you running?
Have you made any changes recently that made a change in your battery usage?
Are you unhappy with your current battery usage?
I am sure that you know this - but MEMORY usage and battery usage/drain have nothing to do with each other.
Bill
Drain is about 7 hours which is a lot less than before I changed things.
ROM - duttys WM6.1 WWE
Radio - 1.64.08.21
The changes I made were to go from box standard to changing everything....
I had no idea that memory usage had no impact on battery drain? - I just assumed that the more stuff I was running the more drain on the battery.... ? The more stuff I run, the higher the memory usage - that was my thinking....
My question really is are the battery details 'normal' and are the task manager screen shots showing something that is going to zap the battery unless I get rid of it?
I have no idea.......

OK - first of all there are a lot more people here a lot more qualified to talk about this but here are my thoughts since no one else is chiming in...
1. you can search for a program that shows your actual battery usage - it will show you in milliwatts (I think) so you can see what programs are having an effect on your usage
2. but - there are some easy things that you can do -
a. download Kaiser Tweak and turn off the internet when you are not using it - you can tell the internet that it should disconnect one miinute after you stop using it and to connect only when you need it.
b. you can turn off the GPS so that it is not running all the time - it will definitely eat your battery.
c. make sure that you have your screen set to as dim as you can stand it/as is convenient and that it turns off regularly - I personally manually turn mine off when I am putting it back on my belt.
d. while having a lot of programs on your phone does not eat battery having a number of programs running might - so I would stop programs that you do not need to be running when you are done using them (close out of the programs before you put it back on your belt)
3. my experience on this phone tells me that it take 24-48 hours on a new ROM before your battery usage information is reasonably accurate - till then it has no idea what is going on and can be much better than it really is or much worse than reality.
I hope that this helps you some,
Bill
I'm not sure about which apps you are using that may be causing battery drain....but what helped my battery life drastically was finding a CommManager that allows you to turn off 3g. It may prove to be even more beneficial for you since you are using direct push....you won't believe the difference it makes.
Search for "3g comm manager" if you're interested. There are several of them out there. I'm using one from Schap's, but I know Dutty and a few others have created some good ones too.
......I've also tried doing step 2a in the post above, but actually found that I used far less battery just keeping my connection connected on Edge than when I had it disconnecting every minute on 3g (my email was checking every 15 minutes....and it seemed that going through the connection process draws quite a bit of power in itself....so for direct push, it may be counter-productive).
Thanks for your replies - I have advanced config so I'll have a play with that. I think the Battery Status pluggin has the usage, so I'll install that.
I can disable 3g in the comm manager, but that then seems to stop HSDPA kicking in when I use the internet.
However, going into comm manager before opening the internet is hardly going to take up years of my life......
Could be a nice tweak to add in the future though - 3g off until internet explorer starts.....
Cheers

What apps does she have installed which you don't?
For example, if she uses the Facebook/Twitter apps and they're updating themselves every 10 mins as opposed to every hour (or even manually) then her battery will get eaten alive!

how do i do that? in the task manager?
I also turned the sync to her facebook app to 'never' .
Turn GPS off when not needed and WiFi when not needed that usually helps. Also when wifi is on turn off notify me about new networks. Make sure screen brightness is set to automatic also.
if she has live wallpapers thats a bad ideea for a lasting battery, live wallpapers use cpu.. cpu user electricity, and the battery gets empty really fast. i`m runing ~ 40hours with nonstop wifi or data mode activated, depends on my locations, 1 push email runing 24/7 skype 24/7 and i talk for about 10-30 min per day... so... install cpu temp v2 and uncheck the screen timeout (set it to 10 minutes) and let the phone on the table and look at the cpu tempv2 if the cpu drops to 1-5 % @100mhz , if it doesn`t drop below 10 percent @100mhz then you have some nasty apps that are not idle.
if im in an area where i get 5 bars i can get more battery life while using my phone for a while, than I would if I am in an area where i get no connection or an area where my connection is constantly dropping. This is because the phone constantly tries to connect to the service provider and uses up tons of battery doing it.

I have 2 days battery life with medium usage, download a stripped rom and keep it basic on the widget/wallpaper/amount of apps.
Download damiangto 1.2 gold underclock to 800 mhz (or keep it at 1000 mhz, but it doesnt change so much in speed for me)
undervolt by steps. as long as your phone doesnt die in sleepmode you can go lower. Im undervolting at -100 without any problems.
Download superpower or juicedefender. I have good experiences with both, using superpower at the moment and its free and good.
black backgrounds and themes are better for battery life because of the Super AMOLED screen.
You dont have to totally discharge your phone before charging it, charging whenever possible is actually better for long term battery life.
Hope this helps
Thanks for the replies everyone
I'l check all of the information out
I installed
Battery mix (has discharge graph)
Smart battery
Battery eta (has Discharge rate)
I swapped batteries with mine (hers still discharged too fast)
annoyingly it mucked up the battery discharge statistics because my battery was full when i put it in her phone.
She doesn't really muck about with her phone, very few apps or wallpaper etc.
I just go crazy with mine.
my battery discharge (with loads of use see CPU graph)

her battery use (phone was in her bag not used all day at work)
she was in a different location to me. see no CPU activity either
I looked in running services
mapslocationfriendservice (latitude) was 26% mine was about 9
and android system was higher on her phone
I mucked about unnistalled and installing maps using market and titanium backup
also I installed OCLF on her phone (one click lag fix) because it is on my phone. also the battery apps were slowing it down.
In short
her battery is plummeting about 3 hour if its in use and 11 in standby
its not the battery
i think is something to do with the android system.
probably latitude
but i could be wrong
I'll have another crack at it later.
Worst case i could master reset and restore titanium backups of her texts and contacts and stuff. but I like to sort it out
Cheers for the advice, I'll check it all out.
I'll post back if there any change in the situation
quick update
Her phone appears to be running better
I think it was google maps latitude update.
I cant 100% be sure.
but the result of the stuff i tried on the above post seemed to have changed her phone from the poor performance it suddenly started getting.
I am thinking of trying out 'superpower' and or 'juicedefender' on mine and her phones in the future.
Thanks for the tips everyone
Now, I know that this rom is still in an early Alpha stage, but as a test I left it on, unplugged with wifi on, not connecte (having that irritating bug where it won't connect to anything), to see how long the battery lasts, and I noticed 2 things.

A. Should the battery be draining this quick, when it was not used for the 24 hours which it lasted on battery? I mean, no apps were running, and it wasn't even connected to wifi, I usually leave wifi on on my phone by an accident and I don't notice it draining the battery that quick...(my only explenation although I dunno if it's right, is that while it's not connected and there are networks that it knows and can connect to in range, that it is constantly TRYING to connect, and thus draining the battery?
B. It says that it was constantly awake, but if you look below, the screen was turned on like, 2 or three times throughout the day?
Any ideas about these? Anyone know a fix for wifi? I tried wifi fixer from the market, but it didn't work (looks like all it does is reset the wifi) (and please don't suggest the changing channel thing on the router, cause I can't do that in college). Also, calendar won't sync with my email, says sync is down, try again later, and in accounts and settings, it doesn't say sync Calendar, it says sync com.android.calendar...? I tried wiping dalvik cache and reinstalled GAPPS V11...but nothing, still won't sync
Thanks guys.
Niall
I'm on 0.6 Alpha btw
I would say that is not normal. I watch my graphs loosely from day to day and I never see that sort of drain.
I will also say that mine is never awake for that amount of time. There were a couple of small blocks in the middle of today where it was awake but the screen was off, but for the most part, awake and "screen" on were grouped together.
You might check to make sure you don't have some background task running eating up CPU and battery...
PS: I also leave my wifi on all day, though since it's pretty broken it's rarely connected to anything useful. But even if it is, I can get a good day or two out of the Touchpad with light to moderate use.

Hey man. I'm really glad you posted this. i think we this community can get a lot of this thread if treated right.
I was wondering if you would be willing to change the Tittle on this thread to something down the lines of "Battery Comparison and Issues" Reason being, I think you and I, and many more, can benefit from this by collecting and discussing some issues we are all having.
I was think that this can be an image posting thread of battery status and performance.
Here is mine. (shown Below)
I've compared mine to yours and yours is definitely abnormal. I'd be concern too.
I'm also, well at the least I think I am, experiencing some battery issues and I would like to clear that up by examining other touchpad battery status' and issues.

Hi everyone,
I'm coming to you with a random problem which I can't reproduce. Over the 2 past years, I had it about 2 times but I had to wake up at 5 am.....
Here's the explanation :
I'm putting my phone on charge, the alarm (The app AMDroid) is supposed to ring at 5 am but sometimes it doesn't. When i'm finally waking up, I'm finding the phone blocked. Black screen, no sound, no response to physical buttons (volume, power) or fingerprints. I'm forced to reboot it with the volume up + power off keys.
I really don't understand from where comes the problem. I already had when I was using the regular sony alarm app and as I said above I can't reproduce the bug which is kind of embarassing when I have to get up early...
I hope you'll be able to help me,
Thanks !
Bump !
I just had this happen to me this morning, and solved it with the same procedure.
I noticed this morning when I woke up that the device was extremely hot, potentially a temperature failsafe kicked in?
If that were the case, I have no idea what would be causing it. Presumably something has the CPU pegged at max load.
I may try to dig for logs, but I'm not familiar with how to do this on Android.
Hi Telomeres, thanks for your comment !
Two quick questions :
- do you have the fingerprint unlock feature enabled ? (do you have at least one fingerprint recorded)
- si you have the battery maintenance (i don't know the exact name in English) enabled ?
I'm trying to pinpoint the problem, so far i have those only two options..

I do have the fingerprint unlock enabled, despite being the US. My guess was that I was accidentally shipped an international version somehow? I did not go through any measures to enable this on my own.
If you're talking about "battery care" where the device slows down your charge rate to increase longevity, yes I do have that enabled.
Your information about the battery overheating is making me think about the battery care. I don't have regular schedules so this option activates kinda randomly just like the problem pops out.
I'm asking you that about the fingerprint because i saw a thread where someone said the fingerprint sensor was at fault.
Unfortunatly for us, we both have the same settings hahaha
Actually, on checking my settings Battery Care was disabled and I believe that setting persists through reboots. However, I did not have my phone charging overnight. I don't recall what percent my battery level was before bed.
Damn. So close to find a clue !
Happened again overnight last night.
I had battery care enabled this time.
I really don't understand from where comes the problem ; we both have a totally different setup and ways of use/charge our phones :/
I'm having the same issue...... I'll see if I can get get some logs..... I do use battery care and stock alarm..... Twice in the month of October ive nearly been late for work because my phone locks up, charge light remains amber but is full (no excessive heat) and I have to force reboot
I had the same kind of lockup like 5 times now in the last two month. Last lockup was tonight with the September security update.
This happened to my phone twice recently, but my phone was NOT charging.
Last time it happened, I went to bed before midnight, my phone was at about 70% battery, so I decided not to plug it in. I put the phone on a shelf beside my bed and fell asleep.
When I woke up in the morning (I don't use phone alarm, rely on my smartwatch for that), the phone was unresponsive, black screen, needed to long press VolUp + Power buttons to reset it. I'm not sure when I plugged it in - before or after the reset, but the battery was basically flat. I took a screenshot of the battery chart that morning, which seems to tell that the phone has been dead for most of the night. As you can see in the screenshot, the battery line is natural until after midnight and then it's just a straight flat line until the morning. This leads me to think maybe it's a battery problem?

I actually think it's very useful if you wanna preserve your battery health a bit more. When I charge the phone it's difficult to unplug it right on 80% unless you're constantly checking the phone since it charges that fast. I usually get distracted and boom, 100% charge. With this app the phone can automatically stop charging at a certain percentage.

A phone is a disposable item and batteries are cheap....
I don't have the time to try and keep the charge level between 30 and 80%
New battery will probably cost $10-20 by the time you need one on Alibaba
is it still working? Do you have any problem? Do you recommend?
I have tried but it is not working my phone. Xiaomi Mi note 10 lite android 11 miui 12.5.2
