UPDATE: Dec 17, 2008
older versions are no longer available here, the latest version is in the market under the developer name "snctln"
let me know if you have any problems with it

so I decided not to abandon development, competition is a good thing, right? and I am going to update the first post with a new build... in this new build there are a lot of improvements
- all 50 levels from the classic lights out, before it only had the first 5
- after level 50 new levels are randomly generated... I believe there are more than 8000 solvable
- added a hint engine... press the menu key and select the "Show Hints" and you will see a small red dot on the keys that you need to press in order to complete the puzzle, updates in real time, you can turn off this feature if you want by going back to the menu and selecting "Hide Hints"
- the state of the application is saved across instances... this way you can continue a game even if you restart your phone
any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
My main question is this: Does this app feel the like it is the sae quality as other apps on the Market? Or does it seem cheap and too simple?

(mods: if this is not the correct forum to post development of an android app please feel free to move the post or tell me where to move it to)
So I put up a thread a week or 2 ago requesting android app ideas and at first it seemed that games were in demand, so I started working on a simple game...
NoLitez is a simple game that take inspiration from the old simple handheld video game "Lights Out", (wikipedia link)
basically the idea of the game is that all spaces in the gird can either be turned on or off... the goal is to get all of the lights off. When you touch a light, you toggle the state of that light and the 4 lights immediately north, south, east and west of the light
I ran the apk using the latest android for titan build and it worked as I would expect.
So now I am curious if any G1 owners want to be a beta tester for me and tell me if this apk even works for them, and if so what they think of the game.
I only have very basic features implemented, and only the first 5 levels...
This would count as my first android application so please go easy on the criticism, but I am open to hearing all things good and bad
thanks for any feedback
i tried it out, good game. No crashes or hangs, works as described

cool, thanks for the feedback
Nice. Clean interface and classic gameplay. I remember when they advertised these things on television in the '90s.
On a side note, how's Android running on TyTN? There's not a week goes by that there isn't a new device Android is running on, but it seems that most of the devices still need some spit polish.

well I have a Titan rather than a TyTN (PPC6800, CDMA device, aka Sprint Mogul vs P4500 GSM aka AT&T 8525 here in the states) [but they do seem to be named the same]... and I have to say that android doesn't run too well on it, I have been able to get android up and running on it since July thanks to dzo's vogue releases but even with the latest editions the touchscreen doesn't work quite right and the button mappings aren't very intuitive to me... maybe I just need to give it more than 5 minutes, but my plan is to buy a Android Dev 1 or some unannounced 2009 android phone so I shouldn't have to rely on testing on an unsupported QVGA device... but I just got laid off last Friday, so it could be a while until I have a proper android device to develop with
Works like a charm, no bugs at all and a pretty fun game! Do you mind if i throw it in my g1 files in my sig?

I am glad that you are enjoying it, it is not a problem to put the apk up in your directory, I have a few more things that I want to do before I make a proper release in the android market, but I have a few questions and I am not sure if this is the proper place to ask them
1.) Does this application behave as you would expect it to as far as saving and restoring its state? Like if you get a phone call or have to leave the app for some reason when you restore the app does it save the lights on/lights off state? Does it at least behave as you would expect it to when compared to other G1 apps?
2.) I am not fully sure if this application would be allowed in the market because Tiger electronics has the "Lights Out" game patented... does anyone know if any other game "clones" exist on the market like say a tetris clone?
thanks again for the feedback
There's an app on the Market called 'Lights Out" already...? Seems to be the same game? Not sure who developed it though.

wow... you are correct, this exact same game already exists for android and I had no idea. Looks like I am going to abandon development unless someone thinks it is good to have diversity in the market, since I don't have a G1 there really is no way for me to test to see the differences that may exist...
I enjoyed putting this together, but I wish there was some way to browse the titles available on the market other than directly from a G1, that way I would have known to work on something different. (and after a quick search my second game that I was planning on making "4NARow" (a connect 4 clone) is already on the market too...
maybe if I pay the $25 and register as an android developer I can see the different apps available in the market?

Of course I have problems. One big fat problem - I cannot run it.
Well... I'm using Android on my Titan. So..... I cannot even download and install it...

Ok, Thanks!
Just recently pulled my old DS7 out of the corner and after seeing, nvflashed this really great Unofficial CM10.1 for Dell Streak 7 ROM on it. Works great, apart from the one tiny problem - it thinks it's a phone ... I already used Uninstall Master to remove some Phone features, such as: SIM Toolkit(it's called Mobile Data i think?), Messaging and Mobile Network Configurator. Was wondering how or where can I change or modify the settings related to how the Cyanogenmod acts as a Phone or a Tablet so that many apps from Play Store wouldn't default to the portrait mode.
On a sidenote - thanks to giveen and anyone involved in making this really awesome CM port to DS7 :good:

Understandable, but since I have a Wi-Fi only version I wanted to know if It's possible to change this in form of a setting or a few lines inside a configuration file without involving compiling. I even faintly remember stumbling upon something like this on a CM9 version I had on my old Xperia MT15i Neo ... if only I could remember or find where or how (currently strolling through the developer and CM10 related menus) - deleted my Xperia related bookmarks when I sold it.
p.s. - people mentioned some problems with the on-screen keyboard disappearing as described in one of the posts on the main CM10.1 thread, I've noticed them myself too and they tend to be application specific ... it feels like the keyboard crashes or force-closes due to not enough memory, like in lighter applications the keyboard works fine, but when trying to use the keyboard for writing for example a post in the comments section in a website will most likely result in keyboard disappearing after first input character.
So I am still trying to figure out why you started a new thread about this and what your question is.
To remove mobile data completely requires a new compile, something that cannot be done right now for a variety of reasons.
I guess I simply went too far off topic while trying to explain why I'm writing here... sorry.
So, to clear things up, the question still remains the same - what can I do to make it act more like a tablet and less like a phone on my Wi-Fi only DS7. So what I'm trying to find in the developer and CM menus is if I can more or less simply switch between some sort of "phone" and "tablet" mode so that some applications from Play store wouldn't default to portrait view mode.
And I noted that I've already uninstalled/disabled (call it how you want - I can restore them from the Unnstallers Recycle Bin if something weird starts to occur) some of the system .apks and as You already pointed out:

... so thanks for clarifying that and no need to do any special versions - it's just fine how it is now. I didn't come here to request anything to be compiled or modified for me but just to ask for info, heck, I wasn't even expecting You to be answering on this thread.

I make it my special concern to answer questions, even if it with sarcasm
I'm not sure what more you can do besides deleting the phone. Comment out in build.prop the rild stuff
I wonder if he is referring to TabUI? Which I as well am trying to relocate the flash able .zip which enabled this display difference. I have been running cm10.1 2/12 because of the sensors not working on the 2/14 build.
Sorry to piggyback the thread, but is there an answer for where the tab ui .zip is for the 2/12 build?

I'm new to this 'invention' (Android Auto) and as soon as I did check it out the first thing came to my mind - "as usual, Google tries to be smarter than everyone"... I mean - I cannot even scroll my playlist down because Google says "I have to park to do that"... Stupid enough to get really irritated.
But to the point... The idea to cast a screen to car's multimedia screen is perfect. As I've heard it's hardware based, so the only useful feature Android Auto has is the software (driver?) that can push media thru the USB cable (can it via WiFi?). This is what I need because my phone is configured perfectly already, does not need any stupid dashboard or players.
So basically... has anyone 'hacked' this solution to push screen/audio from _any_ app/desktop/etc?
Pleeeeease tell me someone has...? Or at least that someone works on this... Or maybe there is any other software that can cooperate with car's multimedia interface...?
The protocol has been documented in the Headunit Reloaded app.
It's just waiting for a clever developer to come along and build an Android Auto app replacement for the phone that mirrors the entire display.
As far as I can understand reading quickly post from the link you have provided, it's not quite what I wished to be, but maybe it's close . Nice to know. Thank you .
I hope there are many interested people and we will see effects soon . I would gladly dig it myself if I had a time for this, maybe one day...
If this is in the wrong place I apologize. First which devices run live aods? Im very surprised note 8 doesn't have this functionality. Second general gripes about oreo ota. 1) removed app longpress options such as "app info" etc why? 2)buried easily accessible settings through longpressing quicksettings. 3)not oreo but annoying. No dedicated live wp menu. Please add your gripes itt.
I think there is nothing to "gripe", all the complaints that you are presenting can be easily fixed or implemented by means of some app, if you read carefully this entire section, you can find many useful insights about oreo and its changes, in my case, instead of complaining or whinning, I preffer to look for solutions or fixes, but that is my opinion

Fair enough mod. I've been around a while and have never flamed. But I'm really at my wits end. I had a perfectly functioning non rooted device that no longer works properly after 8.0 ota. I have default alert tones, all apps had specific akert tones, ringing with no indication of what they are. Apps will download but not install without a long period of time. Badges are borked. Apps will not open from notification shade. And Ive not found a fix. Ive read even factory reset will not remedy the situation. So if your handset works, great, but it seems like piling on when you get replies like the above. Ive removed Samsung account, removed updates from google apps. Cleared partition cache and nada..

I understand your frustration, trust me. I'm having the same issues coming from the S8+ to the S9+. I also miss some of the features that Oreo seemed to remove. However, please just try not to take that frustration out on other members. If you're not pleased with someone's response, as I said, you can ignore it or if it's really bad, report it and mods will handle it. I hope you find a resolution or you could possibly RMA if needed I suppose.
Good luck!
Thank you for your polite response. Im wondering if I should start a thread if there is an oreo specific forum? Btw does S9 have the live aods?

We have the infinity wallpapers, which kinda adds a live effect to the AOD but not really lol. I only stated that is useless to complain or whine
here in XDA, about all the things you do not like about Oreo or for that matter anything related, nobody here has control or solutions for what samsung implements, or takes away, and, for solutions, YOU are the one who must look for them, I never demand anything from others
So in any regard. If you want animated AOD. Heres what you do. Why if you go to Samsung store and try to dl an animated aod it tells you "your phone is not compatible with animated aod's" is beyond me but whatever.
1) go to AOD, under Lock screen settings
2)choose clock style
3)choose style where you previously or now can choose a static pic
4) choose gif will now be an option and about 20 default gifs will be present. Choose one of those or your own
5)profit

That may be true, but as I said if you go to Samsung store and try to dl an animated aod it will at least tell me "device not supported". But I got a few cool ones from giphy.
So Im copying this here in the hopes it may help somebody. At least re. Oreo's random and unceasing notifications.
I may have found the reason. The new power saving "feature" may be the culprit. It seems to sound an alert every time it sleeps an app not whitelisted. Probably one of the stupidest pieces of coding ever. I caught a notification in the bar of like an ekg line when it happened. But get this it immediately disappears. So if you dont catch it you have now idea why you're being alerted. Go in to maintenance and switch all off or whatever you think is appropriate and it should stop. However the random vibration alerts I can't figure out. Ill get them for apps I dont have them set for but sporadically like instagram. And then on next sms which I have it specifically set not to vibrate. Hope this helps.
Is there any way to make Android Auto force immersive mode with root on my car? I wonder if there is a way to hide the navigation bar.

I didn't realize you had a solution to prove it was unstable, because all root solution are unstable? I'm just trying to figure out where and why you are generalizing here.
You're only about a year and a half old on your response though. Better late than never I guess

Well, first of all I did not talk about any unstable solution. In fact there's no solution for what you've been asking. Moreover I've talked about Android Auto being UNUSABLE. How would you get through all the menus and screens of Android Auto? Swiping up from the bottom, you'd say. No, it's not implemented in Android Auto.
I did not even talk about root solutions, because it doesn't even matter what root solution you've gone with.
Let me explain this more deeply:
Android Auto user-configurable options are the one you see on the settings of Android + developer options.
What you can change with root are some settings inside Google Play Services. Android Auto actually reads a lot of things from Google Play Services database. There are many flags that modify some aspects of Android Auto (e.g. you can force the new Android Auto UI, or hide the status bar etc.) but none for the navigation bar.
But there's more. You can change the resources inside the package (the APK) and edit how the app behaves. But you can't just decompile the APK and compile it back, because it would break the original signature and therefore make the connection to the car broken. You can edit resources via Xposed, but there are no modules for what you are seeking, and honestly I don't think anyone would be interested in doing that. If you'd like to, go on and make a module yourself.
Lastly, I could be a year and a half old, but giving the fact that you can't actually read what I've wrote, I can think the exact same about you
Greetings

Great, you're offering some more explanation here than just some single generalization that leaves everyone guessing. That is something we can discuss.
The question was about implementing immersive mode. I agree with you that you can't navigate Android Auto without, well, navigation. How does immersive mode work? Wait, it has no navigation right? Ah, navigation is hidden, but available with a gesture. So in my question, I'm asking about a solution that has navigation right in the question.
Anyhow, I see some good ideas there, like Xposed which makes me start thinking about Pie Controls which all seem doable with some kind of draw over control.
Answering with "go make it yourself" isn't constructive to the discussion. Just because you don't see value in something, doesn't mean it has value to others. But I see you like to make generalization about what people want too.
You must be the life of the party when you, A) show up a year and half late, B) make generalization about everything and everyone, and C) tell everyone to do it themselves.

Although i agree with you, i just wanted to mention that, you can control android auto without softkey. Look my solution :
(If someone could create a way to hide android auto bar, i suppose he could also make a way to control it through gensture, like i do for android). But you are right, there is no solution. Anyway look my video may give some ideas what can be done today and what not:
I too would think this would be cool. even if the bottom icons stayed so you could still navigate and the bottom black bar was transparent or something.
