Question Adaway List? - Xiaomi Mi 11

I want to block traffic to Xiaomi servers. So far I have been using this list in my adaway: https://gist.github.com/eboye/ef2f8c3e9e3b32c0980ff1a226770b1c .
But this list may have been abandoned as it has not been updated for a while. I wonder if there are any other lists similar to this one, perhaps more up to date?

Use Karma Firewall...

Karma firewall seems to be an app that acts like a VPN to achieve blocking traffic on a per app basis. For that you have AFWall+ which does a better job and it doesn't occupy VPN. Need root though for it.
My question stands - does anyone know of another Xiaomi server URL list that I can add to my AdAway?

IMO, Sebsauvage host is one of the best.

[Q] Removing ADS

I have just flashed to stock M7 coming from M5 Samset 19.f and i noticed that samset roms have no ads on the free apps im using, i was wondering how to be able to do this on a stock firmware?
Somewhere in the SamSet docs, I've read something about the HOSTS file and this file can control the IPs you allow in (if i correctly understood the definition of the hosts file).
Oh I'm gonna miss that tweak ...no manual work around?
Sent from my GT-I9000
Use an app called "AdFree". You need root for that.
Btw, could this thread should be moved into Q&A.

wow i didnt realize it was that easy and it works! Thank you!! much appreciated!
Wikipedia holds your answer:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_(file)
You can also use the hosts file that addfree uses on windows pcs... just pop the host file with no extension (so 'hosts' rather than 'hosts.txt') into your computer's /windows/system32/drivers/etc/ area and add free browsing everywhere!
Yeah good tweak!
WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU? YOU KNOW YOU ARE KILLING DEVELOPERS THIS WAY???
If everyone was blocking ads in free apps, there wouldn't be people willing to release apps for free...is that really what you want?
Ads are a way to indirectly pay developers for their time. Is the only viable way to do this and it's not a big hassle for users...it's just a little frame...come on!

I think there's no difference blocking the ads or never clicking the ads. If you don't like the ads and you never click them, you might just disable them.
The ads don't bother me so much, but I never either click them.

Well, I think some ads providers even pay for impression...
However you might as well click on those ads...it costs you 5 seconds per day tops, to help someone who lost days developing something and decided to release it for free anyway, hoping to get some money with ads...is that really so bad? It is the only way to have lots of free apps...if only people understood that and clicked on the banners as a sign of gratitude...

SeeMe GPS Real Time Tracker [2.1+]

New realtime web tracking system, runs on any phone 2.1+
You can send links to people you want to share your position with. Has configurable "update" times and shows last update/update interval/battery status on the web tracking page (useful for example when you are outside, roaming wilderness for many hours and need to save those last 10% of battery by turn long update interval - people watching you do not freak out, why didn't you move for a long time).
Current status: works, I am optimizing the GPS usage for battery savings.

It does, over Wifi.
I am the author of this app and have one question - did you ever clicked on ads in this app? I am just trying to make a kind of "Survey" between users to know, which way to go. I have the paid version, but it doesn't sell well, so I made the Ad-supported version, listed in Google Play for free, but not many people click the ads.
What do you think? Do you think, that having the app free, supported with ads is viable option for me?
Does this application allows recording and upload tracks?
I`m looking for app like old GPSed for iOS and Blackberry.

For the most part if I use and like an app, I will get the paid version. Outside of that, I don't see the ads, and I would not click on them if I did.

hmmm. great app, starting to download now. thanks
Not sure about this time tracking application. We had been using Replicon's time tracking product suite which is an easy to use cloud based solution. It has a simple to use calendar view interface, great features for usability and unparalleled back up support too. NO issues till date, had been quite efficient and productive tool.

Nice app... but
I just downloaded your free version to see how it worked before purchasing and have a question.
In your description it says you can send links by email but there is no option through the phone app to send links at all. The only place I seen that offers any type of links to send is on the website. I think this option should be offered through the phone app.
Is this something you plan on adding?

No DD-WRT or ROOT required. Unblock Chromecast using this method.

This is the only cheap and effective method which seems to have worked for me. All you really need is VPN, in this day and age who wouldn't have a VPN service anyway, I am using the Private Internet Access's vpn service and followed this thread which works flawlessly. I mean I didn't have to root my chromecast (which it can't be, unfortunately) and also didn't have to use my flashed router for this method either.
Unlock Chromecast - Access US apps: Pandora, HBO Go, Hulu+, iPlayer & Netflix (UK/US) for FREE

Some routers support connecting to a VPN, in which case all your Internet traffic would go through the VPN.
FWIW only the DNS redirection (iptables) method requires a hacked router. IP/port-based blocking is supported by some routers, and most routers support the static route to bogus gateway method.

I agree with your point about not using a laptop.
However, Chromecast does requires another connected device to cast to it and a router to provide wireless network, so what is described does remain a valid option for those that need/want to bypass network-based regional restrictions.

If you don't live in the US, why would you want to route ALL your traffic through a US-based VPN-server?

IMO it's not efficient or wise, but some people do, because they want US-based content (or content from somewhere other than where they are). Some folks also do it for work.
Others simply enable/disable the VPN as necessary.
Hey guys. I've cleaned the thread from some name calling - please stay respectful to each other at all times. If you think someone said something wrong, there's always a way to say it nicely. If you can't find that way, better not post.

There are services that let you choose which devices use the VPN and which use the local connection. That's how I've got things set up.

I use Sabai Technology's OS. It costs 100 dollars, but the support is great.
You have to have one of the routers that they support, but it was much cheaper getting my own router and doing the installation myself than buying a pre-installed router.
It works great. My VPN supplier supports their routers, so I only have to add a supplied ovpn file to the router and then decide which things to connect through the VPN and which to leave locally.
I'm sure it's possible to do the same thing in Tomato yourself, but my knowledge isn't that good and it would take me a very long time.

What program to use to stop adds?

I used to have a great program that came as part of the ROM on my old note 2.
Have been struggling with adds on nexus for a while.
What do you use?
What would you recommend?
Adaway.
Adaway
HOSTS file from here (http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm) dumped straight into the /system/etc/ directory, overwriting the existing one.

Adaway.
AdAway is good, but it only blocked ads in webpages for me. If you never want to see any ads ever again I recommend installing Xposed and using YouTube AdAway (blocks ads in YouTube) and MinMin Guard (blocks ads in apps) too. With that combination I haven't had to look at a single ad in months.
Adaway blocks ads in apps too. Some ads ("native" ads like those from Sharethrough ) escape Adaway. For those, I use the #nochromo browser, which is adapted from the Chrome browser. It is *great*. You can find the post here at XDA somewhere
i use adfree http://adfree.odiousapps.com/adfree.apk
On a related note, the ads on XDA are terribly intrusive
This is what I get without ad-blocking on my phone.

the only reason that i became a recognized contributor on xda when they just started the program in 2011(i think) was because you get a completely ad free xda

Used to use adblock app. But only problem is some apps like slickdeals app adblocker blocked all the links. Thats why never use any adblock anymore
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
I know that adaway (and probably other adblock apps) has a whiltelist function. I could launch the app, and see what was being blocked, and selectively add those hostnames to the whitelist.
I needed ad-blocking only for the browser (I bought paid/ad-free versions of all apps that I needed, and chose to not install the ones that were only ad supported). Firefox helps block most of the intrusive ads while browsing. I do miss Chrome, but not willing to deal with the ad-cluttered web for that.
I rooted till 6.0, and now with monthly updates, decided to try staying stock for some time. Manageable so far.

adblock without root?

This is my first Samsung device. I have read on various websites about a solution for adblocking with knox but I think that it may have been removed?

Nice one, thanks for your help.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S10 plus G975U and use the Ad Guard app. No issues except to get full protection you have to pay for it, which kind of sucks but using the "free" portion of the app works well for blocking ads.
You can as well use the DNS blocking method. All you need to do is to set up a private DNS in your settings and put DNS.adguard.com in it.
DNS blocking via private VPN is best since you need no apps and no VPN connections which use battery. Check the adguard mentioned above and there is also NextDNS which has a lot of options including selecting blocking lists. Unlike adguard only 300 000 queries per month are free but it may be enough for you.
There was an app, I believe it was called AdHell, that worked with Knox, but it is no longer working. Personally, I have been using Blokada, which is free and works great.
Using AdGuard Premium since...2017? Even stopped rooting because of it. Adblockers were the only reason I was still rooting.

This is the first android I have owned that I have no desire to modify. Everything seems to just work.
The onky way I could be swayed is if battery life is a lot better on a custom rom.

IKR?!
Only things that make me consider modifying is battery life and camera quality. These two things I miss the most. The 2 XL, being two years older than the S10 still makes considerably better pictures and videos. I was shocked when I took my first pictures with the S10. They still look good, but don't hold the candle to the 2XL. Same with battery life. It's not just bad...it's grotesque for my usage pattern. I start my day with 100% at 6:00 am and at around 2:00 pm I clock out of work with ~55% left while doing almost NOTHING. Only checking messages during lunch for ~15 Minutes. The exact same pattern left me with ~90% charge left on my 2XL. I'm seriously considering using my 2 XL and selling the S10. I don't feel or see any real life advantages. If I take out aesthetics out of the equation, I'm left with disadvantages...
