Question To use PIXEL 5A outside US & Japan | in Saudi - Google Pixel 5a

Dear Experts,
Good Afternoon,
I am an avid pixel lover, I have been using pixel 2 since more then 3 years happily.
Now I want to upgrade to Pixel 5A, I want to ask is their any issue if I buy unlock version and use it here in Saudi.
5G is supported here my all three mobile operators, I hope I will get 5G support as well here.
Appreciate if anyone can share feedback who is using outside US and Japan .
Many Thanks

TL/DR:
Yes, it should work. The minimum channels I would bet on for sure are 3, 38, 40. Probably there are even more channels supported (especially with refarming old UMTS-frequencies).
Oh, tricky question but let's try it:
That phone, Pixel 5A, supports the following channels (as for LTE):
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 28, 29, 30, 32, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 46, 48, 66, 71
https://www.gsmarena.com/google_pixel_5a_5g-11059.php
Seeing this wall of numbers I got suspicious and double-checked:
https://geizhals.eu/google-pixel-5a-5g-mostly-black-a2584042.html
So, it really seems support many, many, many channels - good!
Now let's see what is going on in KSA:
3, 20, 28, 40, 41
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks_in_Asia
1, 3, 38, 40
https://www.frequencycheck.com/countries/saudi-arabia
Well, that does not really seem conclusive, let's dive into details - KSA has 3 companies:
Zain
1, 3, 8, 38
https://halberdbastion.com/intelligence/mobile-networks/zain-saudi
STC
1, 3, 12, 40
https://halberdbastion.com/intelligence/mobile-networks/saudi-telecom-company-stc
Mobily
3, 38
https://halberdbastion.com/intelligence/mobile-networks/mobily
Summed up altogether:
1, 3, 8, 12, 38, 40
In conclusion:
Yes, it should work. The minimum channels I would bet on for sure are 3, 38, 40. Probably there are even more channels supported (especially with refarming old UMTS-frequencies).
Still, you can also ask their regulatory authority yourself, CITC:
https://www.citc.gov.sa/en/Pages/support.aspx
Hint: If you call them, then do so on sundays (their workweek starts on sundays and most of the world doesn't know that)

Many Thanks .
Yup I am in Saudi and Sunday is our work week day of the week.
So this thing is sorted that InshALLAH 5G in Pixel 5A works.
Other then that any user share also his experience that everything works fine with Pixel 5A outside US and Japan, like updates , security patches and others.
Many Thanks

You're welcome!
Well, I focused rather on 4G but with 5G-channel N78 provided by STC it should also work.
(IMHO: 5G is quite an overrated hype, not much useful gain over 4G and it will take many years to upgrade all those phones and networks).

Mine works in flawlessly in Panama if that helps you.

Many Thanks

The camera performance also impressed with its reliability and low-light capabilities despite being on the older side. Finally, the battery life proved to be solid and long-lasting. The biggest weakness of the Pixel 5a is that it won't be sold outside of the U.S. and Japan.

Care to explain or give examples? So far you sounded like a Pixel5a salesman

if you would like to find out what bands and carriers work with any phone. i use this website. it checks all countries.
Will My Phone Work in USA?
If you have ever wondered if the mobile you are thinking of buying will work in USA, this is the right site to answer your question. You can also find out if your mobile phone is compatible with the frequency bands that are used in USA, or with the mobile phone operator you are going to use in USA.
www.kimovil.com

Edit00: Same thing here, in Saudia/ Operator Mobily: got my Pixel5a, unlocked, never got it connected to 5g. My PocoF3 works flawlessly on 5g. !!!
Moreover, VOLte doesnt work neither (on my Unlocked Pixel5a) !!!
Edit01: Though i am not 100% sure, but i guess that manual re-configuration (and it not a single click procedure) (with QPST) to the "/policyman/carrier_policy.xml" file will be required to Activate the 5G network on the Pixel5a outside the US.
Edit02: a quick search led me to one tutorial: https://youtu.be/hUvUniZqTXk

Root and Bands Nexus 6 Android 6.0.1

Hey guys! i'm new here but i have always read your threads and post.
English is not my first language so im sorry if something is wrong.
Well, to be honnest i only have ONE problem, that started to create new problems ( a lot of them)
I buyed a Motorola Nexus 6 out of my country (Argentina), the seller told me it was the XT1103 (the one that works perfectly in my country). When i arrived home, i could only get H, not even H+, so i checked and realized that my Nexus is a XT1100.
I started a research and found out i could add bands to the phone, but it has to be rooted... Here comes the second problem, Is there any way to root an Nexus 6 Android 6.0.1 AND THEN ADD THE BANDS?
Thank you in anticipate and if i have to upload any picture or something please let me know. I really need you guys here, hope you can help me!!!
Based upon my experiences trying to do this very thing with a Galaxy S4, you'd be better off selling your international Nexus 6 and buying a new US model off Amazon. When I tried it on my Galaxy S4, I nearly hard bricked the thing and ended up losing the SIM unlock it had. I did manage to unlock the phone again, but the attempt to add bands failed.

I've done this with other device and yes, it worked but as you, almost hard brick my phone.
Hmm I think my first problem is to root it.
Gonna wait a little and if nothing happen I will sell it and buy the US version. Thanks for answering man

"LTE 700/800/850/900/1800/2100/2600, TD-LTE 2500"
And this are the one that I need
"Band 4*(AWS, 1700*) /*Band 28*(APT700, 700 MHz**)"
I'm now in a province of Argentina (here they use band 28) but I live in capital so if band 4 is included it will work on Buenos Aires I guess.

According to the following link, band 28 seems to be planned/TBD but not active yet in Argentina:

And according to the following page the only band currently enabled in Argentina seems to be band 4:

I'm not in Argentina so I can't test/confirm it.
Anyway, band 28 is enabled on the XT1100 (but not on the XT1103).

I hope it works on capital Federal.
According to the news I have read, band 28 here will be for suburban places and rural places. It's active here now but in Mendoza it should be working band 28 and not band 4.
I have an HTC here with LTE, how can I know which band is it using?

Unlocked U.S Note 9 Slow Updates?

Hi everyone,
For anyone out there that won't be trading in a phone and paying full price, it looks like B&H has the best deal on the Note 9 that's compatible with T-Mobile U.S.A. They are throwing the new QI wireless charger duo, a dex dock and the AKG headphones (although via rebate )
My question: How's Samsung's software updates for their unlocked phones? I know they caught some heat in the past for doing quarterly security updates instead of monthly which they have now fixed but is that true for their major OS updates? I don't want to be stuck on 8.0 till this time next year when 9.0 is starting to roll out now..
Anything else I would be losing by going the unlocked route? I have TMobile here in the U.S and the specs sheet pretty much covers everything including bands 66 and 71.. I'm assuming wifi calling is a given although it doesn't say so..
No tax and the additional freebies have me lingering on the preorder click button.. What say you?
Avoid T-Mobile since it would come with a locked bootloader. I am still rocking a Note-4 on TMO since the bootloader was unlocked. It is probably better to get an international model of the phone.
I'm on the fence as the OP as well. Has band 71 been totally confirmed for the US unlocked version!?
It is my understanding that the international version will have full band support for the US-Based GSM carriers (AT&T and T-Mo) but not for CDMA (Verizon and Shint).
If I'm not mistaken, Carrier versions get the update from Samsung, after Samsung does their tweaks, and then the carrier puts their little changes, and then the update rolls out. Unlocked versions should get updates sooner since there's no carrier involved right?

According to BestBuy.com
LTE Band 1, LTE Band 12, LTE Band 13, LTE Band 17, LTE Band 18, LTE Band 19, LTE Band 2, LTE Band 20, LTE Band 25, LTE Band 26, LTE Band 28, LTE Band 29, LTE Band 3, LTE Band 30, LTE Band 38, LTE Band 39, LTE Band 4, LTE Band 40, LTE Band 41, LTE Band 5, LTE Band 7, LTE Band 8
As far as wifi calling it should work on a unlocked Note 9. I have the unlocked Note 8 and wifi calling works on tmobile.
I am not sure about the bands support as phone arena also says that it does t have B71 support.
But if the US unlocked S9 can be used as an example, it has b71 support. So I wouldn't see why Samsung would drop b71 support on the US unlocked Note 9.

You would think it works that way but no. All carriers are satisfied first before unlocked units. My unlocked note 8 always received updates well after carriers. I guess unlocked users represent a smaller percentage and thus lower priority.

PC Mag review has confirmed that tmobile wifi calling works on the unlocked Note 9 but not for any of the other carriers. Still don't know about band 71 coverage though b&h has it listed on their website.
FYI Oreo on tmobile note 8 was released April 1st while Oreo on unlocked version was released April 4th.

Does anyone know if an unlocked Sprint Note 9 is compatible with TMobiles band 71?
I bought on Ebay a note 9 that was listed as a factory US unlocked SM-N960u1. Based on the imei number, it turns out that it is a sprint carrier unlocked note 9 that someone flashed the U1 firmware onto it. I talked to Samsung support and tmobile tech support who do Not know if this phone will work with band 71.
Sorry if I'm asking in the wrong location.
Appreciate the input.
Yes it should be compatible I think. You can try dialing *#2263# then go to band selection then LTE then look for listed bands, it should say 71 in there.

Yes. All the US Note 9s are the same exact hardware. There's no difference at all between the carrier models or the U1 model. It will be 100% compatible and has band 71 support. If you want video calling and rcs texting, just flash the T-Mo firmware. WiFi calling and VoLTE both work on the U1 firmware on T-Mo.
I've had a T-Mobile branded Note 9, an actual factory unlocked U1, and most recently an ATT brandes Note 9 flashed with the U1 firmware on T-Mobile. No difference whatsoever in signal strength and speed.
Just put your TMB SIM card in it and enjoy!
You also have one distinct advantage: ONLY Sprint branded phones and the factory unlocked U1s work on Sprint. So when you sell that one, you can say it's truly unlocked for all carriers.
EDIT: Added a screen shot from the *#2263# menue on my ATT Note 9 running the U1 unlocked firmware. I circled all the LTE bands it supports. Again running on T-Mobile.
So great to hear that. Thanks so much for your thorough reply. Can I leave it as is or will I need to flash the sprint firmware back to use the warranty ever. The knox counter remains at 0×0.
Thank you

You can leave it as is. It's running official Samsung firmware.
I understand that the tmobile variant has a locked Bootloader as well.
My last note was the note 4 which I loved because I could carry spare batteries. Since that phone, I've been on the huawei mate 8,9 and 10. Great UI and 4000 mah batteries that I easily could get more than a days usage. Most recently, I sold my mate 10 and bought a Nova 3 because I wanted a better selfie cam than 8mp. The Nova has a 24mp and a 2mp selfie.
Compared to my new note, the selfies are appreciably sharper. I want to take advantage of band 71. My wife has a s9 plus and she gets double the download speeds I ever got with huawei. Guess I'm looking for the best of all worlds. I've missed the note. I'm glad samsung finally put in a big enough battery. Personally, I still think the user replaceable battery was always the best and distinguished android from Apple by having expandable memory too.
My main complaint with this note is that I am unable to tweak the settings for better battery.
I think I've tried everything even tweaked the developer settings. Maybe the s pen is a drain even when not in use.
Best regards and thanks again!

ALL the US models have locked bootloaders. If you want to unlock and root, you need an international model, but you'll lose band 71.
No the SPen won't drain your battery.
What kind of battery life are you getting?
Averaging 14 to 18 hours. I've put all but 2 apps to sleep and am allowing no more than 1 app to run in the background. I also go into device maintenance frequently and optimize everything. My Huawei Nova 3 with it's 3750 battery lasts at least 25% longer.
Am I missing anything?

OnePlus 5G smartphone to mark the start of a whole new lineup[Coming Soon Apparently]

If rumours are correct, a new 5G Enabled OnePlus smartphone maybe unveiled sometime in Q1 2019. For those of you planning to order the 6T by Christmas and keep your phone for at 2 - 3 years, what do you make of this development and would you now wait for this (if it comes true):
https://www.gsmarena.com/oneplus_5g_smartphone_completely_new_moniker-news-34173.php
I wonder how T-Mobile will handle this. There are 2 chips needed and it's possible that neither will accommodate their 5G timeline. For 600 MHz especially, they may be screwed until next November or even early 2020.
QTM052: mmwave frequencies. Should cover any 28 GHz and 39 GHz that T-Mobile is deploying.
QPM56xx: Sub-6 GHz. Supposedly supports 3.5 GHz (CBRS). No marketed support for 600 MHz or the 2.5 GHz they will acquire from Sprint.
I won't keep my 6T when I get it. Going straight to a zero-down upgrade to the 7 and then 7T.
It's great to have a 5G phone, it's better to have a 5G phone plus 5G network.... Not a hurry for me.

Same traffic here. Im in America so Tmobile and Verizon matter to me,, but the rural place i live and work in will be one of the last to get 5g. maybe it will matter to me in 2020 or so. for now, im going to simply enjoy the fact that my 4g will get better and better as others move to better spectrum and decongest my old school 4g.
As there's serious doubt on harmlessness of this technology I'm not all too excited about it...

Question China variant missing B66 band on T-Mobile

Never purchased a non-US compatible device and had a question:
The China variant seems to have most T-Mobile bands (both do not have B71) as the global variant WITH THE EXCEPTION OF B66. Does anyone know whether this will be an issue?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
i get my china variant Mi 11 Ultra on Monday, im on T-mobile and i live in NYC. i can report back to you then.

Lucky you! Yes please let me know how the reception turns out. I don't really care about 5G since it's not that widespread, but wondering how 4G LTE will be like.
If you have any opinions on the China variant as you begin to use it, please post as well! Also considering it since there is a cheaper variant (8G+256GB).
Any updates how CN version working in NY with T-Mobile?
interesting to see speed test on 4G. Is actually supporting one 5G band.

when i ran speed test i get 10Mbps here in Queens at my house. but the real test for me will be at my job, since i dont get any WiFi there.
I also did a factory reset (a habit i always do) and playstore disappeared, i looked on youtube for easy video to re-install. This is my 1st Xiaomi phone, so im getting use to MIUI. but hardware, much better than my Note 20 Ultra. the display is better and the frame rate i see it faster on mi 11. I plan to flash global ROM, but stuck waiting 168 hours for unlock to go thru. this is only my 2nd day with the mi 11 and i like it already. going out later to take some pics.
Don't buy China version because it doesn't support well Carrier Aggregation combinations used by TMUS so you don't get good speed from network. Also it missing B71 and B66 bands - common in US networks. 5G only works with n41 SA when available theory.
Here is list of supported bands and Carrier Aggregation combinations: https://cacombos.com/device/M2102K1C

Thank you and good luck with flashing to global!
Is there somewhere I can view a map of which T-Mobile bands are used throughout the US?

tested at work...70Mbps! so glad i have wifi at home
I've used Chinese version phones without B66 for years, with t-mobile / google fi. Never had any issue with it. My wife uses an iPhone US version, I have stronger signal than her sometimes.

Do you ever use the phones in rural/sparsely populated areas?

Wow why the difference? What kind of speeds were you getting with other phones at home? Was it about the same?
My mi11 in China can work 280Mbps by 5G. Although the band is a little less, it is not affected in China

Question Pixel 5A Question - AUS to US

Just broke my loathsome old Note 9 and need to upgrade. Have my eye on a 5a but I'm looking to emigrate to the US from Aus in the next few months and I was wondering if it would be compatible on US networks. It'll be unlocked.
I would think here it depends on the carrier, mine works on T-Mobile the only carrier here worth a ****, I'd just check with whatever carrier you plan on mate. It's a great phone for the $ I love mine.
this website will probably help answer a lot of questions
Will Google Pixel 5a work in Australia?
In this page we are going to show you the compatibility of Google Pixel 5a with the mobile networks of Australia and with the telephony operators that provide service in Australia.

you can change countries and phones to check to see what phone works where.
At least initially the 5a was only sold in the U.S. and Japan, so it works in those countries. If it works in Oz and you can get one there you will be happy here. I second the recommendation for T-mobile as a network provider. They were the first to bin the required 2 year contract with phone upgrade; their plans are very flexible. If you are looking for an economy provider then consider Metro, which is the economy label for T-mobile and uses their network. T-mobile has a pretty extensive 5G network.
