Factory reset and patched boot.img - Google Pixel 5 Questions & Answers

I have to perform a factory reset on a rooted pixel 5.
Before I do, have I to flash the original boot.img to avoid bootloop?

No, a factory reset just wipes data.

If you are trying to return your phone completely back to stock, I recommend using the Android Flash Tool. Your bootloader must be unlocked. Use the tool to flash the latest factory image; make sure you check the "Wipe data", "Force flash all partitions", and "Lock Bootloader" options.

Can't factory reset?

I tried the instructions posted at the Motorola site here:
https://motorola-global-portal.cust...r_detail/a_id/94936/p/30,6720,8696/reg/348778
It doesn't matter if I do the software reset from within android or the external reset, it won't work.
If I try the reset within android, it reboots and then boots normally.
If I try the external reset, I can get to the bootloader but when I choose 'factory' it reboots normally, not to recovery.
Device is rooted.
Any help?

Where did you get the stock recovery and how did you flash? I'm stuck in FC look and can't factory reset.

I got the image from here:
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/ghost_rcica/list.php
Booted the phone to the bootloader (adb reboot bootloader) and then used fastboot to flash the stock recovery:
fastboot flash system recovery.img
Then I was able to do a factory reset using the typical instructions posted in the OP

Reset To Factory Staying Rooted

Is there any way to reset to factory in custom recovery without losing root or unlocked boot loader?

If you mean a factory reset, as in a full wipe, then you can do this from TWRP and it will not affect root nor your bootloader status.
On the other hand, if you mean re-flashing the factory image, then no, you can not do it from recovery. And you will loose root. But your bootloader will remain unlocked. FWIW, if you are unencrypted, flashing the factory image will also encrypt your kernel again.

TWRP - Not wiping

I've been rooted since I got the Nexus 6 and recently have been having issues with TWRP. I can back up and restore but it won't do a factory data reset or wipe of any kind. I've tried with TWRP 2.8.6.0, 2.8.7.0 and 2.8.7.1. When trying to flash a new rom I select factory data reset, even tried advance wipe and wiped the whole phone including internal storage. After flashing the rom boots up like I dirty flashed it. I've even returned to stock, rerooted and the same issues with TWRP - it just won't wipe. Any suggestions would be sincerely appreciated as I'd like to flash a Marshmallow rom.

When you have TWRP installed and bootloader unlocked you could follow the instructions in the OP of the JDX rom.
What I would do: fastboot flash M-bootloader and M-radio. Reboot to bootloader and fastboot flash TWRP 2.8.7.1. Than flash the JDX 4.0 rom.
Power off the N6. Reboot in recovery TWRP and wipe cache and do a factory reset.

I thought about that but not sure it would boot if not really wiping.

You need to connect N6 -> PC.
And use a dosbox as administrator.
You have 2 options to boot in bootloader mode.
From the PC or pressing buttons Power + Vol down. So why no boot ?

I've been messing with the phone for about three hours today and got it back running. Will give that a try in a day or two - so frustrated right now may make a major mistake.
I would still like to find out why TWRP has stopped wiping on my phone.

Is it safe to do Factory Reset from system menu while TWRP in recovery + root?

I'm going to give my P9 to my wife. Before that I'd like to do factory reset all apps+data+settings. Currently I have Android 6 + unlocked bootloader + TWRP in recovery + root.
Is it safe to do Factory Reset from menu Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Backup & reset -> Factory data reset?
Will I have TWRP in recovery + root after that?
Thank you!

For Factory reset you must first go to stock ROM and stock Recovery, see HWOTA method
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75787156&postcount=3
If you want to keep TWEP and root, you can just clean Dalwik and Cache from TWRP but it is not Factory resetting
Btw, with TWRP and/or Root, phone will fail OTA upgrades
PS: Don't re-lock Boitliader (if you want) until you go back to stock and make Factory reset - peopke used to soft-brick the phones
The method you addressed to is only for Android 7. Is anywhere instruction to rollback to stock ROM and stock Recovery for Android 6?

For MM / EMUI 4.1 you have FullOTA-MF-PV (FirmwareFinder) builds and you can install (reinstall) them through TWRP.
You can also:
- unroot directly from SuperSU
- download your existing firmware from FirmwareFinder, unzip update.zip, use PC app Huawei Update Extractor to extract Boot and eRecovery partitions from update.app
- flash Boot partition (you can do it from TWRP) and then eRecovery (again, you can do it from TWRP or you can do it from Fastboot the same way you had flashed TWRP).
Then you can flash FullOTA-MF-PV by DLOAD method.

Help, LG V40 sprint variant with pie. Decryption unsuccesful

After I did a factory reset via twrp, the phone is now saying a message after booting up "Decryption unsuccesful"
It says that it was able to use a password but that the data is corrupted. It ask to perform a factory reset but since my recovery img is twrp it just goes back to twrp and even after doing factory reset via twrp again i still get the same message.

You need to replace TWRP with your stock boot.image after performing a data wipe not just a factory reset.
