Since the update is already available in Switzerland and will be worldwide soon, I have two questions:
1. How could I update to one ui 4 Android 12?
2. Could I dirty flash and still have everything? Don't really want to redownload everything and set up everything again, and also don't really want to use migrate-gpe. But if I have to I will just manually redo the setup.
Currently, I'm on the 5g snapdragon with Android 11 one ui 3.1 rooted with magisk and twrp with unlocked bootloadrer.
Making this thread for anyone new to updating on more recent bootloader unlocked phones, since I came from an a7 2017 where you could just dirty flash not even just updates but custom roms and it would be fine.

if you have your current firmware stored on your PC you can flash that onto your phone but using HOME_CSC so that your user data is preserved. then TWRP and magisk will be gone from the phone and you'll be able to receive an OTA update just as you would've before.
only problem with that is that you're unrooted, you could maybe flash a patched AP slot but getting TWRP back would mean wiping data TWICE!
if you will want to root OneUI 4 then your best bet is to also get a root app now like OAndBackupX or Swift Backup and copy all your apps and data to an external SDcard folder.
My device is G780G (FE Snap 4g version), can i flash the android 12 firmware that's already out for G781B 5g version?

I wouldn't try it, plus via Odin it would probably stop you.

Thanks for the info. Could I flash firmware to get oem update and then reinstall twrp and flash a backup of the data partition I made prior to unrooting?
Also, I don't exactly know what you mean by my current firmware, like the version of Android? I could probably just find it online

you can make a backup with TWRP for later but it doesn't just backup your apps, it's everything you've set up in the phone all the stuff you've turned on or off. that might cause errors with newer firmware but it is something people did years ago. there's a setting in TWRP you used to select if we were gonna do that, I'll have to look and post it later.
I always tend to keep a copy of the rom that's running on my phone also on PC just in case. I flashed that today to go back to stock and get the OTA update.
no reason you couldn't just download Dec or even OneUI 4 and flash that with home_CSC if you want. I'm just lazy to look firmware so I use what already have.
the 3rd option from the top in settings (use rm -rf) is what we were told to use if we were gonna move data from one rom to another. those were custom roms though all pretty much based on the same device trees. if you try it, it might not work so take backups with an app too just to be safe. if using a data partition backup causes errors, just format data and use the other app backups.

I'll try downloading the firmware with this tool when it's available in Australia, and I'll try a dirty flash from within TWRP, if that doesn't work I'll try to flash the OneUI 4 firmware to home_CSC and if that doesn't work I'll just install the update, reinstall twrp and root, and restore all the apps and settings with migrate-gpe.
I'll definitely be posting updates here btw
I just downloaded the dec patch to see how it works and there are these files within a zip
Now, I'm not exactly sure which ones I'm supposed to flash from TWRP if I can even flash from TWRP. Any advice?

those files are for flashing in Odin only.
in Odin you would need to flash BL, AP, CP and one of the two CSC files.
the CSC_OMC_OLM file would wipe all your user data. the HOME_CSC_OLM file would keep all your user data

So it's been a while but the update has finally released. I've just backed up everything via TWRP and I'm downloading the new update right now to flash it.
Just to make sure, I will be flashing BL, AP, CP, and HOME_CSC_OLM through download mode with odin?
In order to keep my apps and data
Also, would odin 3.13.1 be fine? Because I downloaded 3.14.4 from here but there's no official source so idk if it's safe. The program opens fine btw and isn't a virus, it just looks the exact same as 3.13.1 but with an extra warning when opening the program.

So I did some more research and found that 3.14.4 is just a hoax, it's the same as 3.14.1 which is the latest leaked version. Got it from this thread
Ok so after flashing BL, AP, CP, and HOME_CSC_OLM the phone was completely bricked with it restarting 3 times and then booting into the default android recovery saying that it can't find the android partition because it might be corrupt. I managed to get everything back to normal by installing twrp again through ap in odin, and then restored the backup I made yesterday.
What went wrong?

the blunt answer would most likely be you did, there's nothing about that should brick a phone if done correctly.

I'll tell you what I did step by step
First I backed up everything with twrp and made a copy of that backup to my pc. Then I downloaded the one ui 4 update with a program called Bifrost from GitHub. When everything was downloaded and backed up I extracted the BL, AP, CP, and HOME_CSC_OLM files from the downloaded zip one ui 4 update. I then went into download mode through the reboot menu in magisk. I then plugged in my phone and selected all the files which you said I should flash (BL, AP, CP, and HOME_CSC_OLM flashed all at once). The flash completed successfully and then I unplugged my phone and restarted it manually by holding power and volume down. That's where it bootlooped 3 three times and came up with the default android recovery telling me that android was not found or is corrupt. The options in the recovery were: Try again, factory reset, and view logs. I then flashed twrp to ap through odin and restored my backup made yesterday.
could be a wrong file, could be a corrupted file.
I can't see anything else on the face of it that's out of place.
you could try flashing it again with the normal CSC and then just restoring the data partition from TWRP, clear cache and dalvik after.
re-root still required if you had it.

I hate to post a thread about this.
But I searched and searched but cannot find the particulars of what I need help with specifically.
I wouldn't have registered if I didn't think I could get around it without some help.
Here is the situation.
Galaxy S GT-I9000 came with Android 2.3.3 installed, No further updates are on offer when I try to update.
Phone is slow and aweful, Going to install CM
What I have.
CM installer, PC and Android applications.
Heimdall client 1.4.0 in Zip.
CM-10.1.2-GalaxySMTD in Zip.
Recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.2-galaxys
And that Windows C++ thing (I have no idea what it is for, Tutorial just told me to download it)
The exe I downloaded and installed is vcredist_x86
Now then, Because the tutorials I've read mention the phone being either 2.2.3 or 2.3.6 but not 3.3
causes me concern, I do not know what I am doing, I do not want to risk muddling my way through,
I would like to get the installation of Cyanogen done as quickly as possible as my phone is in Limbo
I did a factory reset after backing everything up, I have lost all Marketplace apps but still have the apps from Amazon.
I request the help of somebody with experience with installing roms on this particular phone,
I tried the CM installer from Amazon and from the website directly, Both when used in conjunction with the PC installer
simply told me that my device was not supported.
This leaves me with trying futile diagnostics to try and make it work, however as my phone is my modem
for internet use, I really cannot have a phone in limbo on this issue.
As for the custom installation well, I don't know where to begin,
I really have no idea what ClockworkMod recovery really is, or how I install it, I have never "rooted"
Anything besides a PSP before, and the fact the tutorial just tells me to "root" to get CWM installed
just opens up a whole new can of worms and more reading that just further confuses and frustrates me.
Please if anybody can help, and put things in straight forward terms, I would greatly appreciate it.
I hope the info provided is sufficient any further questions, ask

I Thank you for finding that, as I did not, But I did read it last night and tried my best. The results are not good.
It's pretty much just leading to me downloading more software, then google searching how to use it. and it just goes on. an unending can of worms.
Install CM11 okay simple enough, First get Clockworkmod Recovery, Okay, CWM needs Root, Okay? How do I root? Well get Odin and Flash this Rom you never heard of, and to use Odin you first need to get CWM and use Heimdall and then Root and then Heimdall and then Odin then CWM then Root then Odin then Heimdall then Flash Image then Partition thingy stuff and more jargon then root Heimdall Flash CM then Put CWM on.

Don't get me started on a tutorial where I lookup another tutorial for software mentioned in first tutorial, that tells me to download some rom or hack or piece of software, that is a file I NEVER heard of, and needs an Unzipper, or something.
I'm not being deliberately inept, I just cannot do this unless it's step by step and comprehensive, Not to mention I cannot go downloading stuff I end up not needing, or simply has no use, Phone data is not cheap.
It is really simple.
Do the following (assuming you want to install Cyanogenmod 9 (ICS)):
Download XXJVU (Firmware)
Download Odin 1.83 (latest supported version for I9000)
Make sure the Samsung USB Drivers are installed
Disable/uninstall KIES
Backup your contacts/sms/pictures etc
Boot into Download mode (Volume down + Home + Power)
Open Odin
Unpack XXJVU. You will get 3 files
Click PDA and choose the *CODE.tar file
Click CSC and choose the *CSC.tar file
Click PHONE and choose the *MODEM.tar file
Make sure re-partition is not checked
Connect your device to your computer
Click Start and wait (A box will turn green and will say PASS!)
Then you need to Root your device in order to install a custom ROM
Download CF-Root
Open Odin
Click PDA and choose the file you downloaded
Boot into Download mode and connect your device to your computer
Click Start and wait
Now to install the custom ROM do the following:
Download CyanogenMod 9.1.0
Boot into Recovery (Volume up + Home + Power)
Wipe Data, Cache & Dalvik Cache
Select Install from SD card and then select the ROM you downloaded
Select Yes and wait (your device will reboot and then boot in your new ROM)

Well it is simple when people like you write well paced yet comprehensive guides, Good news too, I got my internet connection back so I can download all the tools, stick em in a folder and get down to business.
I am guessing you can install any version of CM (Jelly Bean, Kit Kat etc) So long as it is the correct build for the correct phone (in this case GT-i9000)
Odin is better than Heimdall? I have Heimdall already, I'll grab the USB drivers, I don't remember if I even downloaded them, if I did I wouldn't know what they were called at the time.
The Wiki returns results on Odin saying things such as "Unofficial leaked software" blah blah something about Heimdall being more user friendly.
Anyway I will read the guide and hope it all goes smooth from now on
It is not advised to install the latest versions of CM (i.e. JB or KK) straight from stock because you might lose your IMEI.
The correct way is to install ICS first and the JB or KK.
Heimdall is good but for someone who never flashed a ROM before ODIN is the way to go.

The IMEI on the device itself that allows you to use cellular networks or just the copy google and all those apps sneakily grab?
It really reminds me of flashing a PSP ah, so un-straightforward it was amazing I didn't screw up.
Btw the Rom had Odin 1.8.3 already damn, I got two copies.
Well I have everything I need, I already wiped and backed up my phone, still have my USB files on there, no doubt they will be gone when I do the reboot wipe.
Oh wait, I got CF and I downloaded Clockworkmod recovery a few days ago, Hope they are correct.
I take it that when I complete installation all the google stuff gets put back on from the stock rom?
On a final note, aside from needing more speed, I really look forward to trying those privacy features or apps that can restrict access to personal info, and also keep my IMEI out of access, from Play store or anywhere else, I was pretty furious that such a unique ID that nobody but your cellular provider has the right to know is so easily leaked out on smartphones.

You don't need to separately download Clockworkmod recovery. CF-Root includes it.
If you want all the Google stuff you need to download Gapps (Google Apps) and flash it through Recovery.

Update. CF installed, ICS installed, stuck in boot loop till I reinstalled from sd card (ACTUAL sd Card)
I dunno what to think of Cyanogen Mod so far, I was hoping it would have more choice of skins/launchers, particularly just classic stock Android, Anyway the original ROM is gone, So I now have CF+Stock or CM9

I put the stock ROM back on, the CM keyboard and weird touch sensitivity was annoying, Also no file explorer or task manager or anything that showed how much Ram was being used, It's just too un-ergonomic.
There are a lot of file explorers that you can download from the Play store that are hundreds of times better than the stock Galaxy S explorer. If you want a ROM with a built-in file explorer try CyanogenMod 11.
To see how much RAM is being used go to Settings -> Apps -> Running.
If you don't like the default keyboard you can always download a better one from the Play Store.
There are also hundreds of different ROMs to try that are way better than the stock ROM.

So there is no way to actually migrate your stock apps with you to CM from Gingerbead 2.3.6?
So this CF root what is that exactly? Just root access and superuser? because one thing I would like to be able to do is disable IMEI access before setting up a google account to install apps.
As I mentioned before, I am going to have another go at CM when I have the time, it's just a pain modding a phone you regularly use, I think at this point though even Cyanogen cannot improve my phone's performance, the battery sucks, everything force closes, slower than the phone I had before I bought this one, essentially..
Android gives me a headache these days..
By the way I've passed on your guide to others who have Galaxy phones and express an interest in rooting,
They would want to know about how to do it for more recent models, so you might at some point get people asking you for help

CF-root is a kernel & custom recovery package. TW based apps can not be migrated to custom ROMs, but many other can. If your apps are synced with your Google account, every custom ROM that uses GApps will automatically reinstall your apps short time after first reboot. It takes me about 30min to setup whole the phone in the new OS. Use my sticky thread on this section for another info, especially regarding backups. Try Mackay ICS CM9 2014, you won't belive it is the same phone.

You're supposed to flash the masterpatch v2 in Safestrap immediately after you flash the rom (i.e. before you reboot) and as for root, you are supposed to flash Update-SuperSU-v2.46.zip upon install, right after the masterpatch (again, before reboot).
In safestrap, in this order, all before your first reboot:
Rom
Masterpatch v2
Update-SuperSU.zip
Just checking to make sure, your post says 1572, but your phone is really the I537, right? The I572 is a different phone...
Sorry yes, I made a typo it's 1537, also safestrap won't work anymore, it whipped my phone clean and I can't install ss without root

Sounds like you're going to have to Odin back to stock NE3 in order to get the rom working correctly, but don't worry, it's fairly straightforward if you do it correctly. I've attached Odin v3.09 to this post, simply extract the folder to your desktop and run the program. Before doing any of this make sure whatever data, media, settings, etc. that you want to save are all backed up somewhere other than your phone's internal memory; Odin will wipe your phone's memory clean.
1. Download the stock NE3 Odin files from the link in the OP of this thread and extract to your PC somewhere easy to remember
2. Boot your phone into download mode by holding home, volume down, and power and selecting continue. Run Odin and connect your phone to your PC via USB, Odin should recognize your phone almost right away
3. Load the AP, CP, and CSC files (I don't use the BL file), it should look exactly like below:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
4. MAKE SURE REPARTITION IS NOT SELECTED. Assuming the appropriate files are loaded and your phone is properly connected, hit start, DO NOT INTERRUPT IT OR UNPLUG YOUR PHONE. Should take up to five minutes or so, it will reboot into stock recovery at some point, again, just leave it be and let it do its thing.
5. Once the phone reboots into the normal old NE3, you'll have to root it using towelroot. Then install Safestrap, download the rom file, the masterpatch v2 (make sure it's v2), and that SuperSU zip I linked to in my earlier post, all to your phone's storage.
6. When in Safestrap recovery, simply do the following - wipe (default settings), install rom, install masterpatch v2, install SuperSU. Then reboot.

Does it matter if it's on internal storage or SD? I installed mine via the SD card without issues. I'm not sure if the whole process will erase internal storage, but I imagine it will. Just wanted to make it super clear for the OP.

Installation from SD should be fine. Odin flashing back to stock is the only part of this process that WILL erase the phone's internal storage, guaranteed. It's also the only way I know to fix WiFi and to allow a correct re-installation of the ROM, given the circumstances @p_eros described.

Gotcha. Still learning all of this.
OP, I had WiFi issues after installation as well as I flashed from a rooted NH3 install. I did as thisisapoorusernamechoice showed above, starting from NE3, and it solved my problem. Props to him!

I didn't think there was an aroma installer, you should be doing this in normal safestrap recovery mode...
Install the rom and hit the back button, install the masterpatch then hit the back button, and finally install SuperSU then reboot system

It crashed, i installed hyperdrive to stock and it crashed after it finished intalling. after it finished the whole installing hyperdrive thing it just crashed when i clicked next and didnt let me install my modules, also safe strap went away. im reflashing stock, before i flash hyper drive, would it be smart to remove the kernel from the zip?

No don't do that. But have you tried removing the aroma files and folders from META-INF/com/google/android inside the zip and then editing out the aroma parts from the update-script ? Idk if that could work, but it sounds like it might, as long as the update-script is written properly
Edit: hold off on that, my-blue-snog-box MIGHT be doing it for you

So basically you're talking about editing the script so that it skips aroma, while still installing the desired components of the rom itself? also any news on if the person you mentioned has edited the script?

FlashFire - Play BETA - PREVIEW
1. Join the G+ community using the same Google account as you're using for Play on your phone/tablet Here.
2. Sign up to receive the BETA versions from Play Here.
- Use the link provided after sign-up to download the app
With the amazing work by @Chainfire we are blessed with a what seems to be almost perfect replacement for SafeStrap. Yes, this is still in Beta and you should go into this expecting to soft brick your phone every time when flashing something with this. That's why we need some brave souls to test the limits of FlashFire for our poor device.
If you would like to help contribute to see what we can flash with this application here are a couple tutorials on flashing by @muniz_ri
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...w-to-update-to-g900aoca-5-0-keeproot-t3076803
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...-to-enable-native-tethering-g900aoc4-t3078561
If you come across anything that you can flash from the smallest things or even ROMs that you have found compatible please share the knowledge here and I will try to put it in an index that others can see through this beta testing and early phase of Android Lollipop for the G900A.
ROMs that have been confirmed to be flashed and working:
G900A_OC4 5.0 Stock Rooted Android Lollipop by @muniz_ri
Miscellaneous things that have been confirmed to be flashed and working:
Native Tethering by @muniz_ri
300 Fonts for Lollipop and KitKat by @nitol
Titanium Backup's update.zip file
Remote Play Installer
Notes:
If your device stays at the black screen when you try to flash something simply pull the battery out. Then, boot into recovery and wipe the cache partitions. That should allow you to boot your device again after failure.
If you find yourself in a boot loop and downgrading back to NCE you can restore your 5.0 backup while on 4.4.2 (if you made one like you should have) by following my tutorial in the following link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60095108&postcount=21
Here is what I know so far about FlashFire's capabilities on locked bootloader devices:
- Will run on Android v4.x.x/5.0.x.
- Will not trip your Knox Warranty Flag.
- Will flash ROM's (use "flash .zip or ota" option).
- No AROMA installer ROM's.
- Caution! FF flashes to the boot partition, i.e. flashing custom kernels will result in soft brick!
- You can drop a Full Odin .tar or .zip file containing the raw images onto your device and it will flash system, kernel, cache, and recovery (will not flash modem, non-hlos, or bootloader) (use "flash firmware package" option).
- You can flash the remaining partitions via a .zip at the same time or via your PC using Odin.
- Flashes .tars with unsigned images, e.g. system.img.ext4, modem.bin. (use "flash firmware package" option).
- You can also flash individual (un-.tar'd) images, e.g. recovery.img, boot.img.
- Flashes .zip files, e.g. mod's, SuperSu Update.zips, etc (use "flash .zip or ota" option).
- Makes Backups of and Restores all partitions.
- Wipes partitions.
- Injects Root.
I will add here as I test and learn more.
Also want to add a note of caution....if you are a noob and don't have much experience with these things don't rush in. Best to sit back until safe and responsible guides are created. I for one am not at all sympathetic to those that don't take the time to read and understand before jumping in.

One of my questions about FlashFire is will it work on encrypted phones? My work phone is Verizon GS5 and SafeStrap would not work because of my encryption, so I'd be very interested in updating that phone without losing root if it will work. Thanks for all your work!
I attempted to flash Alliance ROM 7.1 from the International Forums.
My Steps:
1. Downgrade to NCE
2. Root
3. SuperSU
4. Install FlashFire
5. Set up FlashFire in the following order;
- Wipe
- Flash Partitions and Bootloader
- Flash Alliance ROM
Everything looked to be working perfectly, but it was getting stuck on the second boot screen. Going to try it again, but after I finish installing Stock Rooted 5.0 again. Maybe it will work then. Only one way to figure out.
Great thread. I'll have a deodexed build up in the next few days then start adding mods and working on other things

Tried to flash Allience in zip/ota and after it wipes it says that it is installing the .zip file for a second then it stops and reboots. Could this be a bug from FlashFire or the ROM not compatible?
Maybe try a dirty flash of the ROM?
I grab a stock ROM directly from G900F, make G900A boot.img and system.img.ext4 into tar.md5. Flash as package in FireFlash along with G900A_OC4_Stock_Partitions_wOA1_BL.zip. Works out pretty well. Just need to disable KNOX with Titanium Backup (for some reason SuperSU doesn't detect KNOX being present) and use Root Explorer to get csc through.
However haven't figured out how to enable VoLTE yet.

I tried the dirty flash. Just stuck at black screen. I let it sit for 25 min then did a battery pull. Rom did not install. I'll leave it alone tonight before i have to stay up all night fixing a soft brick. Haha.

That is some very useful information. Can't wait to give it a go tomorrow! Time for some rest.
Do you have SQLite Editor? Maybe VoLTE can be implemented though it.

@Nyxerosoir It's not that the option that is not there. It is just I am not able to enable it (grayed out) or it says "VoLTE is not supported by your current software version. Contact customer service for more details." if I try to enable it on quick settings.

A general principle to keep in mind is when flashing ROM's at the very least the kernel needs to match the system, i.e. 5.0 system requires the G900A Stock 5.0 kernel, 4.x system requires the G900A Stock 4.x kernel. The matching G900A Stock non-hlos will likely also be required in order for the ROM to work correctly.
I finally managed to get the font package by @nitol to work. The first time I ended up with a bootloop, but then I tried wiping dalvik and cache and flashing. Worked like a charm! Updated it in the OP for the index.
Can i upgrade from custom 4.4.2 to stock 5.0 via flashfire without needing a pc odin to flash bootloader and modem ? (I have G900F so unlocked bootloader)

Yes, follow @muniz_ri's guide and you can successfully upgrade from 4.4.2 to 5.0 without a PC.

Hi guys
Hope you are well, just wanted to find out, i rooted my phone using the patching method (Magisk). Thereafter i installed TWRP (Placing TWRP / VBMETA file in one archive) Flashed it, and it worked, i was able to log into recovery, i then formatted data, rebooted and wiped Dalvik etc etc. (Note i did not install the Multidisabler (The instructions i followed did not mention anything about it) I then installed LOS with GAPPS,
I know would like to try and either install Beyond ROM, or if need be back to complete stock (CTF3) as im missing DEX.
Can i just log back into TWRP - WIPE and installed Beyond ROM? (As we used to do in the old days - jumping between ROMS) Or should reflash MAGISK TWRP process everytime? If this is the case i would want to rather move back to stock...
Can i just flash back in ODIN and all will be good? Or is there any risks? (Ie in bricking the device etc)

Hi there! Thank you very much, this is a fantastic guide. Exactly what i was looking for
Hi,
Sorry for a complete newbie here. I have just flashed my N950F to LineageOS succesfully, but it seems that it can't recognize Mifare Classic 1K, and I really need the feature since I commute using the card. The toll roads and parking lots here are paid using that particular card.
Now I have 2 options. Flash it back to stock ROM, all of them, or fix it.
I can't seem to find any information regarding Note 8 and Mifare Classic 1K, but I would appreciate it if someone can help me here. That is my first option. I would avoid the stock ROM whenever I can, since it ate my battery fast other than some problem.
But if all else fails, can someone tell me what I should do to revert back to original stock ROM? What files should I prepare? I saw that the phone has Verity, and will go bootloop when I use stock OS with TWRP. So, I've downloaded full Samsung stock ROM, but I still hesitate to flash them. What part should I flash, and which part I have to avoid? Is there any step I have to take before flashing back?
Thank you
Just disable dm verity and flash itʼs stock fastboot rom

I have run no_verity_opt_encrypt.zip when I installed lineageOS. Should I run it again?
You can flash it again for your confirmation because reflashing doesnt cause any problem
Thank you.. It is fixed. Downloaded the full stock ROM, then wiped everything (internal storage, system, cache, dalvik, data, except sdcard), then I went to download mode, flash BL, AP, CP, CPC, and it is run perfectly now.
Hi, i am trying to find stock rom for note8 but at every try, odin fails to flash it, where did you find a good one?
From the official mi site or xiaomi firmware updater site download a fastboot rom
Flash it with adb and fastboot tools by unzip the rom and click on flash_all.bat
