Omg was this not a simple process, finally running L29C636 on the mate 10, fully re branded, the China firmware wasn't bad but too much chinese
Managed to brick it in the process, FRP locked, Bootloader locked, after a long night crying in my sleep we finally manged to unbrick and do it properly, or I should say he did lol
All thanks go to FUNKYHUAWEI, jesus this ain't like it was on the Mate 9, that was s, so simple, FH is finding a way to simplify it but that might not happen, you really gotta know what you're doing here but with FH's help...he made it look easy, very happy now, I'll rebrand to C432 when thats available lol, I feel much better about doing it again
Great news! Where can we find the instructions and the International firmware? Thanks!

Hi. Once you've rebranded, do you get the updates associated with the new "brand" you converted to? Thanks!

Sure.
Serious question. I understand many want to rebrand Chinese ROM to international L29 ROM. But why? My understanding is that you can change AL00 system language to English and you can install Google Play (and services). You can even uninstall all the Chinese bloatware apps via Huawei's Application Store manager app.
So what are the pros and cons? Surely there will be more updates too with the AL00 ROM considering Huawei is a Chinese manufacturer?
So why debrand? Why not just stick to AL00 and do all the above? What am I missing?

You cannot remove all the chinese things from china firmware that's why.
What "Chinese things" though? How do they affect day to day use? Thanks.

You will get Hiboard instead of Google's version of that board. Hivoice instead of Google Now. Since the yellow book is filled with Chinese contacts, the dial pad shows up predictive Chinese contacts from yellow book whenever you dial. The Music and Video app has Chinese online content. And maybe because of the new "AI" introduction you might face China based AI pop up tips. You can turn off the Hiboard, but you can't replace it with Google board in a way you get the same swipe left shortcut. You can't remove nor replace the Hivoice (swipe up shortcut). The Music and Video app you can only get around by hiding the app and using alternate app from playstore. The Chinese Yellow book problem in dial pad also could not be resolved, however not sure if its different on the Oreo + EMUI 8. Most bloatware can be deleted but a couple of them cannot be. So those who wish to use the Chinese rom be sure you can adapt to these. Also not sure if 3rd party NFC payment apps will work.
Up to now I have brought Huawei phones from China because Huawei releases these phones internationally a couple months later, it is priced cheaper and more faster rom updates. So i didn't take much issue to the problems stated above. But this time i might go for the local version of Huawei itself as the release date here is not far off and the price is as cheap as the official price in China (getting from re sellers in China would increase price by 100-200$) and if i get 4-6 rom updates a year (https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/help/how-rom-update-year-t3696371) that should be more than enough for me.

I can't remember all but one of them is the chinese yellow page in dialer.
And one more thing not sure if they fix the notification bug in mate 10 cause in mate 9 all chinese firmwares has a bug that won't allow notifications like WhatsApp and Facebook to appear till you open the application itself.

That is more to do with changing the settings that makes selected apps to close when phone is in sleep and also maybe toggling notification permissions. Also there is toggle in wifi settings which turns off wifi when in sleep.

All the replys are quite accurate. From my experience with the Mate 9, another thing I noticed is that there are some features that work only if you know Chinese language. For example, you can set the phone to answer a call, hands free, by voice but you have to say "answer" in Chinese. I could never figure a way around that.

It's not about settings, the notifications bug in Chinese firmwares is true and you cannot do anything about it,you can check by yourself the mate 9 forum.i don't have the phone anymore but i remember correctly.

When you rebrand the phone you will get the ota specified for the region u rebranded to,so no worry about that.
Once rebranded the phone acts like a genuine phone from the region it's rebranded to. Ota updates work normally. You can use volte, WiFi calling and so on
According to O2 in the UK, Volte only works with phones with O2 firmware so it's no point rebranding specifically if you want Volte and you will use an O2 SIM card.
Hi, did you by any chance managed to achieved root as well ? Saw funkyhuawei post on reddit regarding rooting mate 10.

Btw, unfortunately, there's no VoLTE option on 636. My carrier has VoLTE and worked out of the box with my s8 and pro7, but not this phone

I haven't used EMUI8.0 however for all previous versions, you cannot replace the Hiboard. You can only disable the Hiboard via home screen settings. I don't know if it can be done after rooting though.
I imported a US Home and I am interested in changing it into a UK Home. I am assuming the hardware is the same....
Thanks in advance.
Yeah hardware is the same.
It's with the Google account you going to use.
I am even using the Google home in India.
So no issues with the import.
Same, using a US one in the Netherlands. While I do prefer British over American English, I did choose to set mine to American as the UK voice doesn't use Wavenet for its text to speech yet, so it sounds more robotic.

Flash? XD
You can just change the language in the settings, so when Dutch arrives you can of course just change the language of the Google home to Dutch.
Resurrecting this oldish thread, got both my Home and mini speakers from the US and was thrilled when it finally was released officially here in Sweden and tried to switch over to swedish from US English without much luck.
Swedish doesn't even show up as an option yet in language settings in the Google home app so hopefully it's just not fully implemented and I even reached out to Google for some clarification without much luck (surprise)
So I'm not fully convinced it's just enough to switch language due to the fact it says specifically that the country code on the devices firmware is set to US...
Might need to order a "swedish" mini to check firmware info to compare releases.
So instead of making separate threads, I thought it might be helpful making this thread to ask questions.
I'll start of: How long does it take for the global version to go on sale after the Chinese one?
I current have a OnePlus 5T but I would like to upgrade to this phone (Mi 8) I was wondering where can I buy this phone and ship to the US? I know there's not market or anything. But I don't want to to pay double price either from a third party.
Thanks!

Hi guys. Since this is a Q&A thread, i'm wondering:
I bought my Mi 8 today, china version. Will I still be able to flash global software on it, or just the chinese firmware?
And when it comes to flashing AOSP, will there be any difference?
Thanks a lot.
I'm not a noot in flashing, I've had Nexus for the last couple years, and i'm quite confident with it. Just not aware if it will be same rom for both versions or not.

- Does someone (especially from germany) tried WifiCalling? Does it work?
- Does someone tried a USB Power Delivery 3.0 Charger, how fast (how many watts) does it charge?

Do you mean any form of burn in? I have it since 12/06 and no burn in at all. (what a surprise )
I think it will not have much troubles with burn in, because it has full screen gestures (so no buttons which can burn in).
The navigation bar eventually can burn in, but I think that will be not annoying.

Mi 8 is released in hong kong, and reading the site, it suggests that the nfc wallet can be used for services and specifically mentions google pay. Does this mean that there is a global rom now for mi 8, as google pay requires google services and afiak no chinese rom has these installed?

I'm guessing it doesn't ship with Google Play. Is this hard to install? Do you need to unlock bootloader for the eventual global rom?

Google Services arent hard to install. You just need the Google Installer Apk which installs you all services, without the need off unlocking bootloader or root the devices before.
I dont know if you need an unlocked bootloader for the global rom - I would say no but i can be wrong.
Hi! I finally decided to register and participate.
A good friend of mine is in Shanghai right know, and I ask him to buy the P30 PRO there for me, since it´s only 590€ at the moment.
I´ll be posting my personal experience with the chinesse version on this post, but first I wanted to ask some questions.
- Chinese version is ONLY labeled as VOG AL00 right?
- What can I expect? Any problems installing google services or using other language than chinese?
- How do the chinese versions of huawei phones usually do with firmware updates?
- Anything I should know?
Thank you all!
also would like to know..
also VOG AL00 is one chinese models but there more.. for example from GSM Arena Versions: ELE-L29, ELE-L09 (Global); ELE-AL00, ELE-TL00 (China)
but I think there are more than just those 2 maybe an AL10 or something like that. I'm pretty sure if it is not going to start with L (after the dash) then it is not intl
Hi there, I bought a VOG-AL00 as well, but I'm currently in Brazil. Everything seems to work fine besides "wallets" (NFC payments does not work) and "Ok Google Voice Match". The voice match will only work when you have a Google app opened on your screen (such Maps, Assistance, and etc.).
I really would like to find some way to fix these issues, specially my NFC payments.
are there anyway to fix that problem with NFC ? I have the same VOG-AL00 model and live in Brazil whowever I cand return the cellphone to change to a global one..

Alright, I checked back and found location history off in the setting showed in the attachment. Did some digging and found that it's a widespread problem for china rom.
So, trying global rom is only option left.
Hi!
I have same problem and I think it have to do with ROM we are using. I'm guessing you are on CN ROM (as I am) and kibria.mgk is on IN version of ROM.
It must be something that Xiaomi removed from CN ROM.
I also have problem with using AR in Google Maps and guess it is all connected.
We have to wait for Global (EU) version and then it will work.
It's really disgusting that Xiaomi choose to lock the bootloader according to region,
I thought Android was open source and end-user is is free to choose what he wants ,how he wants his device to be,but these kind of things, I don't F*going understand,if I had brought something from someone then I don't have right to do to anything with the product I have purchased and I own ?
It's like you have freedom but still it's been regulated
WTF ??? Common man!!
Unlocking bootloader is like potential risk of your device to get hacked, at today everything is on phon. I mean literally all your personal data and Information regarding your bank account or your contact or your pictures, you name it you have it on your phone
And most recently it saw a news update that snapdragon proccessor has been hacked,it's named as repawn or snappawn I don't remember exactly
But what the ****???
I spent alot of money on a new device that it's better and secure than my previous device, but I'm so restricted???
I don't really understand
I feel like I should get back to my old Nokia black and white phone where I don't have to face all this ****
And just play snake game for fun

What are you complaining about. All regions are bootloader locked. All regions can unlock the bootloader. You are free to install anything you like on all versions of the phone.
The only restriction is that you can only relock the bootloader with the official ROM from the same region the phone is from.
Try buying an iPhone and see how much freedom you get to do what you want with the phone.
Same issue here on Taiwan telecom usage.
No Google Location History function in Google Map.
Can not Enabled it even install Apk from APKMirror.
On my Mi 9T Pro (global rom) everything is turned on, nothing paused, no battery restrictions, no monkey business whatsoever. Still, when I during one day by car visit six places, only 2-3 places is 'recorded' and visible on my timeline. What could possibly be the culprit here? Any suggestion appreciated.
