Flashing firmware from different CSC (but same multi-CSC) - Samsung Galaxy S20 FE Questions & Answers

Hi! My Galaxy S20 FE is the 4G Snapdragon variant (SM-G780G). The Android 12 update is not yet out for my CSC (GLB), but it has been released for Malaysia (XME). Seeing as they're both part of the larger OLM multi-CSC, can I flash the Malaysian firmware through Odin and still retain my GLB CSC (no factory reset)?

yes you can if you A) use only BL, AP and CP from OneUI 4
and use HOME_CSC from your own last OneUI 3.1 firmware (they share the same bootloader binary version number). your CSC will not change then. many have tested this and said it works, however some say it may cause OTA updates to stop working. if that's true downloading the firmware for GLB once it's available would fix that (with you flashing it again with the HOME_CSC).
B) you could flash it all from XME using HOME_CSC, I've only heard from one person saying this worked, honestly I can't remember if his CSC stayed as it started out, the rom worked though.

Quick question about flashing stock ROM

I've got a Telstra-branded S8+ (code TEL according to Sammobile) and I want to flash regular unbranded firmware onto it but I'm a little confused by all this talk of CSCs and so on. Is it safe to download the Australia (XSA) firmware and simply flash the HOME_CSC file over the top of what's already there, or is there more to it than that? Do I need to worry about this tripping Knox/breaking Safetynet/disabling OTAs/etc?
I have had no issues with flashing XSA on my Singapore model Note 8. As long as it is the official firmware this will not trip Knox.
Though your original CSC will appear in the Software Information as the third CSC. Mine currently shows XSA/XSA/XSP (XSP is Singapore)

Changing CSC

Hello guys,
I recently bought a Note8 on Internet and I received it this monday. Besides being really happy with it I noticed that no OTAs were available.
I took a look at settings and I saw under carrier version there is "XEF/XEF/XSG", which could imply that the seller has flashed a XEF Oreo ROM before sending the device and with the system infos being incoherent, this is why I can't get any new updates.
So this is my goal : I want to be on full XEF CSC so I can enjoy VoLTE, VoWiFi and receive the latest updates, by this I mean having "XEF/XEF/XEF"
Here is my actual version :
AP : N950FXXU3CRC1
CP : N950FXXU3CRB9
CSC : N950FOXM3CRC1
Model : SM-N950F/DS
And obviously the Oreo ROM associated with XEF is :
AP : N950FXXU3CRC1
CP : N950FXXU3CRB9
CSC : N950FOXM3CRC4
Thanks for taking the time to read this and answer!!
EDIT : So my problem has been fixed
I assume the model you have is the Snapdragon variant, not the N950F.
If so, I don't see any reason why it should not work once you ODIN to the XEF stock ROM

Hello and thanks for answering.
You're assuming it wrong no offense. I have the N950F/DS model (implying I have the Exynos 8895)
If I flash the XEF 8.0.0 I have with Odin, will my CSC match with the rest of the firmware ?
Yes, as long as you use ODIN to flash a complete ROM, then your CSC will match unless you manually selected another CSC.
I thought VoLTE was limited to US carriers.

Last question, sorry to bother, the last time I changed CSCs my Samsung had Knox already tripped, I have actually the XSG CSC, if I flash with Odin the same XEF ROM I have now, will I have XEF ?
It is my belief that Knox is also tripped when when one flashes different CSCs from the base firmware that is selected during the flashing process. I don't think you will trip Knox if it is a full XEF ROM (unmodified) by Samsung.
I think it is something like a failed checksum (not signed by Samsung) that really trips the Knox flag.
Alright, thank you very much, I'll try flashing the XEF ROM tomorrow and I'll see if there are changes

As long as you flash OFFICIAL firmware, KNOX won't be tripped!
This is the latest FW for CSC XEF:
Model SM-N950F
Model name Galaxy Note8
Country
Version Android 8.0.0
Changelist 13688770
Build date Thu, 14 Jun 2018 10:27:19 +0000
Security Patch Level 2018-06-01
Product code XEF
PDA N950FXXU3CRF4
CSC N950FOXM3CRF4
Your device will stay "XEF/XEF/XSG": you CAN'T change XSG to XEF (that's the Production-code of your device)
Your ACTIVE & SIM CSC is correct -> XEF!

So this means I can safely download the latest firmware to update my phone (since no OTAs are available) and update it. Which CSC file should I use ? There are two available (CSC_ and HOME_CSC). If I remember right the second allows me to keep my data right ?

Yes: you can
Flash AP BL CP & HOME_CSC_OXM with Odin 3.13.1
Data will be saved then

Hello again,
A completely random question, if I flash a carrier ROM (with FTM CSC), will I have the carrier ROM, will I have "FTM/FTM/FTM" and will KNOX be tripped ?
Sorry for bothering

As I already answered earlier: when flashing OFFICIAL firmware, KNOX will NOT be tripped!
The last CSC will NEVER changed (Product-code): in your case it will stay XSG
FTM is also in a Multi-CSC, so I don't know if it will change to FTM/FTM/XSG
Why not stay with your UN-branded XEF/XEF/XSG?

Hello again!!
Well indeed I forgot that. Okay so now I know I won't be able to change the product code, I was wondering if when flashing a firmware that didn't contain the XSG CSC (my SIM card would apply the FTM) things would change.
And FTM is my carrier so I wanted to try all the features reserved to Orange's ROM
But thanks again for everything sir!!!
Quick updates on this story
Hello guys !!!
Here are some quick updates about my situation. I followed @henklbr indications to update manually my phone to one of the latest firmwares, I do still have "XEF/XEF/XSG" but it doesn't matter because my main complain was that I wasn't getting OTA updates.
This behaviour has been changed now that I'm downloading an OTA update to get the latest firmware and possibly the future ones.
I will mention all the people who helped me :
 @Anonymously_Unknown
 @henklbr
Thanks again for all guys and long live the Note8 !!!!

What did I do wrong trying to change my CSC?

I received my international version of the N960F/DS. It had XEU firmware. I tried to install BTU firmware via Odin using a SamFirm BTU download and a UK Giffgaff SIM and selecting CSC, not Home_CSC. I still ended up with XEU.
1st question - am I likely to get Pie and other updates more quickly on BTU than XEU?
2nd question - how do I change from XEU to BTU? I think I saw that on previous Galaxies maybe you had to install a firmware not on the OXM multi CSC and then install BTU afterwards. Is that what I should have done? If so, what CSC do you suggest?
3rd question - should I just leave it alone?
TIA.

simply flash desired firmware wont work, you will need to flash combination file first before that.
follow above comment will work

N960F/DS Swap firmware region

I have Note 9 with Indonesian Firmware and im thinking to flash Australian firmware. I checked the phone model number and its exactly same (N960F/DS). what im worried about is
1. if I flash Australian firmware, would I keep getting the notification if theres any patch / software update or I'll have to find the update manually?
2. if I still get the patch / software update notification, would I get the Australian ver. or the original (Indonesian) ver? (im afraid if its different)
3. Would Samsung Pay System work in Australian firmware? ( I read if you flash different firmware to the phone model, some functions wont work including Samsung Pay System).
Any help would greatly appreciated
1. if I flash Australian firmware, would I keep getting the notification if theres any patch / software update or I'll have to find the update manually?
if you flash the firmware with the Austrailian CSC, you will only get updates from carriers within that CSC in accordance with what network your SIM is connecting to. Only time you flash them manually is if you have an aftermarket recovery such as TWRP
2. if I still get the patch / software update notification, would I get the Australian ver. or the original (Indonesian) ver? (im afraid if its different)
see above
3. Would Samsung Pay System work in Australian firmware? ( I read if you flash different firmware to the phone model, some functions wont work including Samsung Pay System).
samsung pay doesnt work in certain countries period. that might be what youve been seeing

I tried to flash with Global Australian CSC (not for any specific carrier) and I was be able to get update OTA. Now, the problem is after I flashed Au firmware (incl, BL, AP, CP, CSC) with Odin3B, somehow the service provider software has changed to AUT/AUT/XID while previously XID/XID/XID which is weird. I tried flash using HOME CSC file and couple times I re-download the firmware and flashed other unlocked au firmwares (with android 10 version) it still gave me AUT (Switzerland) instead of XSA (Australia).
Any idea why?

Home CSC can't modified but you can get some helpful flashing guidence here. Doing so may affect updates.
Change CSC from LUX to DBT
Can I change my CSC from LUX to DBT by flashing the DBT firmware (minus the HOME_CSC, so i keep my data) ? I've just ordered credits from Sammkey but I'm wondering what that is even needed if a flash via Odin will also do the trick. I want to...

got an update to the one ui 4.1
but during the update it was written that I was updating to one ui 4 but it's already installed
after updating version in settings is 4.1 but nothing has changed
Samsung galaxy a52
I have an ATL device (Vodafone Spain). Apart from the one Vodafone bloatware app that I uninstall via adb, I can use my Magenta Austria SIM just fine. Everything works as intended and I assume this is due to the OXM firmware. So if you don't miss any features, I personally wouldn't bother changing the CSC
If XEH and DBT share the same multi OXM firmware, their firmware is exactly the same. Meaning flashing the DBT firmware will do nothing as it is the same one that XEH uses. The CSC will only change by that method, if you flash a firmware that doesn't have your current CSC included
