Hey guys, I own Mi 11 for almost a year and the battery life has always been rather poor. For a long time I´ve been on xiaomi.eu weekly roms but none of them has really come up with serious improvement of battery life. I found out in my case the poor battery life is actually caused by always on display. Once it is on, the battery drops with several percents an hour even when I leave the phone untouched. When it gets automatically off in the evening, the battery drain is gone. My question - is it simply a feature of this phone? Does everybody experience this issue? Thanks for replies
By default AOD is not activated because it's a gadget and above all AOD is know (on all devices) for suck the battery approximatively 10/15/20% when activated.
No issue from this way, but MIUI has a lot of issues, it's really not the best UI/Android at all, even the MIUI 13 is worst than MIUI 12, A12 is worst than A11

I agree, AOD always shortens battery life. But I previously had a Huawei with AOD and I did not see any serious impact on battery life. Now with Mi 11 it´s a bit of a disappointment...

Welcome to the Xiaomi world lol
With the new LTPO screens AOD will be great (because new LTPO can stay at 10hz/20hz on low values), but it's for the Xiaomi 12 Pro, not Mi 11
Even on aod screen RR stays at 120hz, thats what drains the battery. I use smarthertz to lower RR to 60 when on lock screen and aod, you should check it out.

Hi all, i got this phone for my girlfriend, expecting awesome battery life...but it turned out is less then awesome...a day and a half with light usage...draining around 10-15% overnight. i can't post screenshots but the battery utilization says that around 30% battery usage is made by system. It is the global version running MIUI 8 Global stable 8.2.9.0 if i remember correctly...any hint on how to get better battery life?
I am getting great battery life with this phone. I am on latest Global 8.2.12.0 version.
As I type this on my redmi 4, battery stats shows 5+ hours of screen on time and its been 1 day 9 hours since full charge and still 45% battery left

use Security App in MIUI
Try Formatting the device... or If you're on Official MIUI ROM try security option.. clean junk, stop background apps etc. etc.
Try reboot your device after full charge. I think it cannot go into deepsleep after charging. It is a error wich also happens in redmi 3s. But when you Start your phone again after charging it might be better.
Is anyone else getting more battery drain during sleep compared to MIUI 10, I did a dirty flash update.
I haven't updated but you're not the first one to complain.
Sent from my Redmi K20 Pro using Tapatalk
I did ota update with no reset, both my usage and standby time improved~10%
Granted before this i have adaptive battery on and new update no longer has adaptive battery
No battery drain in my case

No i was mistaken. I have the eea rom. I got confused.
My battery drains a lot slower with MIUI11. I had some weird update on MIUI10 tho that basically destroyed my SoT. Like from one day to the other my battery drained twice as fast but that's gone now.
+1 with standby drain. phone isnt sleeping on miui 11
also, charging is really slow now
Looks like it's getting better for me now, I had remove apps from auto start again
Yes in miui 11 the battery drains much faster , it's sad , waiting for 5 more days to unlock my bootloader then I can use custom ROMs and have stock Android on this beast
Hmfff.....
After Miui 11 my battery has gone from a 2 day beast to a 3/4 of a day wimp. I've barely used it today and at 20% after work when I'd usually be at 80%.
Also have an annoying accessibility icon in the bottom right of the nav bar. Turning it on/off in settings has no effect.
I really don't want to mess around with custom Roms, but not doesn't look like I'll have a choice :/
Xiaomi 9t global (Updated via OTA)
battery life for idle mode improved for mine k20 pro china rom miui 11
Something has happened to my battery since miui11 update also. Barely lasting 6hrs on a full charge...
my Mi8 battery drained so fast
my mi 9t pro running (MIUI 11) 11.0.3.0 QFKEUXM has good battery stainby improvement..last night my phone connected to wifi and i left it with 80% battery..after i woke up..my battery only drain 2%..so i still had 78% battery left..
Yeah battery drain doubled since Miui 11 update. Can't even last a day now.

Did you clean flash or format data
My battery also drains a lot faster than with Miui10 on Xiaomi.EU.
With Miui10 my battery lasted 2 days, now my battery is empty after 24h...
I am thinking of switching back to the latest Xiaomi.Eu with Miui 10...
Typically if I take my phone off charge around 8am and don't use it, I still have 94% or more battery left by lunchtime.
Updated it to MIUI 12 last night, today I took it off charge around the same time, right now it's 1pm and I have 61% battery left.
That's a horrendous change. If I was using it I don't think I could see a full day out now.
This is a vanilla Mi 9 on stock everything, never fiddled with.
Anyone similar experience yet?
Miui 12 has the worst battery life, sot and usage time i have ever seen. I tried the beta for about 4 weeks, stable just a few days but its the same. Xiaomi should never published this as "stable". A lot of users had those problems with beta for weeks and reported it but nothing changed.
I switched back to miui 11 just for not killing my battery within months.
Edit: testing 12.0.2 and it looks like they solved the battery drain bug with this update
I'm on Xiaomi.eu Rom (latest stable MiUI12). Battery life is nearly the same as MiUI11.
MiUI11 end of the day: ~30-35% remaining tipically
MiUI12 end of the day: ~20-30% remaining
So for me this is not bad for the first MiUI12 builds. First MiUI11 builds were more worse for me...
The worst battery drain I have ever experienced. Its good on standby, through the night goes down by 1% but during the day I lost 70% using google maps and data for an hour. With miui 11 I would have used maybe 20 max. im gonna root my mi9 and go back to 11 cause I dont think xiaomi is going to fix it any time soon
I've seen it so many times before... Once the phone is not the top flagship in OEM portfolio they don't care about the quality of the update. I don't think it's ever going to be fixed. Get used to it or go Custom ROM
Happens only on the first day of upgrade from MIUI 11. The next days are even better. It's easy to pass full day (normally I got around 1.25) with around 5-6H SoT.

For me it's just impossible. It's easy for me to get high SOT when I watch something with screen on all the time but it looks like phone have a hard time getting into deep sleep mode so it hurts standby time.
Weird. We all have different problems. My mi9 goes into deep sleep without any problems. I can also get 6h screen time but when I use data baterry goes really really fast. I can easily go from 100% to 10% in 3h using only google maps :/
Yeah battery drain on miui 12.0.2 is awful. my android system usage stats is about 43% right now? and they also remove Override Force Dark Mode option from developer options which was so usefull for me? we probably haven't need IOS notification style!
I'm using xiaomi.eu 12.0.5 QFACXNM and the battery drain is brutal: 11% battery drain at night in 9 hours without touching the phone. No airplane mode, but wifi and data off.
I restricted almost all apps at background and problem is not solved. I'm doing 3h SOT or even less at day.
So... what's the rom with the BEST battery and the best SOT? I don't mind the other features, if it's AOSP I appreciate if I can install ANX camera and GCAM (both).
Thanks.

3h SOT is not a good result, don't you think? I was expecting something like 5h or 6h of SOT with a normal use... I know with 3300mah battery it's complicated but I don't use my phone with heavy apps, I don't play, only use instagram, photos, twitter, whatsapp/telegram and stuff like that...
I recommend PA.

for a 40h+ total with bluetooth location and wifi always on I'd say it's a very good result
I'll check both. I fully charged my phone this morning. 7 hours later, without any use (check my instagram and twitter couple of times and responding some whatsapps), it dropped 10% (to 90%).. At least six and a half hours were in deep sleep.
I think this isn't normal.
That also can be a signal for a dying battery as well. Approx. 1 % per hour in combined usage is a good average for AOSP ROMs. At moderate use, similar to your profile, the battery here last for four days with 4 h SoT. 8 h SoT over two days is possible but not what I reach often. Mi9 is running PAQ5.
Cheers

I was thinking the same. At this hour, less than 12h after the last full charge, and with no use at all cause I'm currently working at home, so I use computer (like I said, watch a couple of times instagram, reply to a few whatsapps and check twitter a little) battery is at 80%, with 30 minutes of SOT. Something is wrong, and maybe you're right about battery.
I'll try PAQ5 and crdroid with quantic kernel... despite I like MIUI, but xiaomi.eu is an extreme battery-draining rom...
My Mi 9 is running several AOSP ROMs since more than one year. Since then I've simply no idea about Miui and its battery consumption. Tbh I'm not too much interested in battery life at all. I'm not an outdoor guy having access to a power plug only once in a while. I'm living in an area where power plugs are widely available. So running out of power is not a major threat to me.

I usually have a charger near, but it happened to me that, in a long session of photos, or in a heavy use outside my home or my work, battery dies more sooner than later... and that sucks.
For example, watching forums or instagram, it consume 1% each 5-7 min, and more of that, instagram and web loading are not so fluent as it should be, so... I'm gonna try aosp for a while.
Crdroid, Paranoid and Iodé OS seem the best choices, I'll give a try to the best battery-saver rom...
Changing ROM only might not solve your battery problem, if the problem lies elsewhere. I use the same ROM and I could get 4-6 hours SoT per charge, over a day of use or so. This is a 1 year old device so battery is no longer 100%. If yours is newer but you get worse result than mine, then it's something in your configuration, not the ROM.
Sure, in these cases I usually carry a power bank with me. Actually I can't recall when last time my phone totally went off power.
For the AOSP ROMs I can't tell about battery behaviour. Things like SafetyNet, banking app and G-Pay are so much more important to me that I never considered changing the ROM since PAQ5 does simply everything I need.
Cheers

this phone has some hardware issue with the battery, some chip is not properly registering/measuring. You have to "reset".

I was thinking the same, battery duration is ridiculous. Last night, 1% battery per- 5-6-7 mins using kiwi browser/instagram. And 10% battery out last night with wifi and data deactivated. Now I have 56% battery with very few use of the phone. Charged it 24h ago.

Hello im using miui 11.0.6 with a new battery and i get 4:14 on SoT, what version of miui do you use?
I on my xiaomi mi9 I installed the battery increased by 4000mha, I changed the kernel values with a file manager by making the phone read the same battery capacity and I do six hours of display on! To do this you must have root permissions and buy 4000mha battery ...
the path to take with franco kernel manager is:
/sys/class/power_supply/bms/charge_full"
/sys/class/power_supply/battery/charge_ful
Through a file manager, that is the path to follow to edit the file
Hi everyone. I have owned this smartphone for 7 months. In the beginning everything was fine. The battery lasts a very short time. I checked different roms, there is no difference, the battery status says it is healthy. Checked by several methods. What could be the cause? SOT is only 3-4 hours and it was much more. Not enough for an average used day. Please help.

You said you checked on different roms so there's a possibility that the battery isn't displaying the correct percentage of the phone. If you experience phone turning off even if not on 0% or having the battery percentage stuck for a long time and then starts draining fast then it means your battery is not calibrated and you need to calibrate it to give the correct reading. As far as I know, no matter how many roms you change, no rom can calibrate battery as it is untouch when roms are being overlayed in the system. If battery calibration doesn't work then try restricting apps and forcing doze on your phone. Last option is to start considering a new battery replacement if you want.

One thing I found would drain the battery in a matter of hours is anything to do with the proximity sensors. Turning on pocket detection would literally cut my battery life in half. Lift to wake and always on display will also decrease battery life. While 120hz refresh is nice, it also shortens battery life. Dark themes on this phone will extend battery life. Amoled screens display black by not turning on the led pixels where black is supposed to be. Just my two pennies...

Yes especially double tap to wake and aod for me kills the battery super quickly. Im guessing it has to do with the miui firmware not properly turning off the sensors during deep sleep. Even a rom maintainer said that aod seems buggy too. Also another factor that drains battery is heat, and rn10pro is notorious for heating up quickly (literally few pics and went from 31C-38C). Frequent heating can cause permanent damage on battery and it'll surely decrease its capacity and lifespan.
Now it is good. Less 10%, sot is 1h. So I think 8h will be during the day. I noticed that the wake-ups had a continuous line now it is intermittent. I think everything is back to normal. Thank you all

Battery calibration pro 1.4 and wiping battery stats with lspeed
(Wiping battery stats is a myth as far as I know, it doesn't contain any persistent long-term data, it gets updated continuously.)
on a similar note, does anyone know why the "Battery usage-->Manage Battery usage" setting gets resetted to optimized from restricted all the time within a few days on A12? I'm witnessed this behaviour on all the A12 roms for sweet(currently on PixelOS) and have never found an answer nor a solution. Has it got anything to do with the automatic permission disable feature since A11? Anyone noticed this? Its frustrating to set that to restricted manually for every app every few days. Thanks!
