Question How to Upgrade with Stable Android 12 OTA Image - ASUS ZenFone 8

While there is articles about ASUS releasing stable Android 12 OTA for Zenfone 8 and the image file [LINK], there is no manual to actually write the OTA image (nor there is new OTA).
Since there is only payload.bin, and no menu to write official image within stock bootloader, should I use Payload Dumper and Fastboot to apply the image? ( which btw forces to unlock the bootloader)

Use these instructions to update to an update when it does not appear in the settings like it normally would

Updating from an update fileOk, so to update your phone when you can't receive OTAs:
Download the version that you need from the Asus Zenfone 8 Support page
Plug in your phone to your computer, make sure the computer is trusted and that you can transfer files from the PC to the phone.
Move the zip file of the update in the base directory of the phone (The same directory as Alarms, Downloads, etc).
Wait for the transfer to finish, then you can unplug your phone if you want.
Reboot the phone
After the reboot, the phone will take a few seconds/minutes and will notify you that an update file was found, select the option to update the phone
It will then extract the update and install it all by itself, the normal update procedure starts from there
Flashing the Stock ROM (Android 11)Note: doing this will remove any data on your phone, back it up if it is important to youThis also works if your phone is stuck in a bootloop or other problems of the sortIf your question was about the flashing of Android 11 from the Android12 page with the older version, the instructions on the page at the bottom should be enough, but I can try to make them clearer.
Turn off the phone
When the phone is off, press and hold the Volume Up key and the Power button until a screen pops up.
If the phone boots to Android, shut it back off, but this time try lifting the Power button before the Volume Up key, because the power button is like an Enter key, it will take it as if you clicked "yes, continue to android".
Plug the phone in your computer
Decompress the zip file on your computer
Execute the script file that is made for your computer
Windows: update_image.bat
Ubuntu: update_image.sh
MacOS: update_image_for_mac.sh
Wait for the process to finish, it'll take a while. You'll know it is done when the window that openned when you executed one of the script files says something along the lines of "Flashing done, press Enter to reboot"
I hope this helps!

The above stable Android 12 OTA image Zip file does not have scripts for flash, but the usual Android 12 beta and stable 11 image Zip does. Also, those have different flashable formats other than .bin file, which seems to be dumped, raw partition images.

The second part is not for updating, it is for example if you are stuck in a boot loop. The first instructions (Updating from an update file) is what you need

[Q] Tough time going back to stock

I've been running CM 11 for a little more than a month and have been really enjoying it. So, I have no idea why I decided to download the MythTools and revert back to stock At&t. Doing so, I messed something up on my phone.
To start, I'm using Windows 7 64bit and when selecting option 1 (install ADB-fastboot-apkTools) I get the new cmd window that states "please select install button after new window is opened press any key to continue...." when I press any key the cmd window would just close. Hoping it would help, I then chose option 6 to update my Motorola drivers. When my browser window opened I got the ADB installer window and clicked install. It seemed to have installed fine. I then updated my moto drivers. Thinking I was all set I went for option 2 to flash the stock firmware which I had put in the firmware folder. With my phone in fastboot I started the process and it failed. Reading through the cmd prompts I had noticed it said something like 'you selected 2- instal cwm.img cannot load cwm.img' . I unplugged my phone and tried to restart it and it was stuck on the bootloader screen. I then restarted into recovery and my PhilZ recovery did start up. However it displays "E: could not mount /data to setup /data/media path!" . I was still able to go through the process of a clean re-install of CM 11 but am stuck on the startup splash screen for CM.
I definitely got myself in way too deep and am clueless on how to fix this. Would someone mind instructing me on what to try next? Many thanks in advance.
I am not sure if it would make a difference in your situation but I do everything for my phone on an x86 system. I have had issues with LG and Samsung phones in the past when trying things on an x64 computer.

you said you are stuck on startup splash meaning bootloop? if it is you should try again with rsd lite.
else you may lose all your data in the memory but do a format media/data and sdcard, so that it can mount /data, it worked for me. then format system mount everyting and do a fresh install of any rom you can sideload or just have it in the sdcard.
I'm pretty sure I am doing something wrong with MythTools. When I select option 2 in the tool to install stock firmware the following happens,
- asks for fimware folder example and I select "N"
- asks if firmware files are finished copying.. I press enter and continue
-then it says "the system cannot find the path specified
the system cannot find the path specified
the system cannot find the path specified
'7z' is not recognized as an internal or external command
operable program or batch file
Are you ready to flash stock fimware...
at this point i stupidly hit enter and that was it with my phone. I'm guessing the tool could not locate the firmware .xml file for extracting and I have no idea why. The compressed folder is IN the firmware folder.
One other question with Mythtools, when installing the tools what path do you want them installed in? I did them in the same file the Myth tools are in.

Disclaimer: Even though this worked for me I am not responsible if you brick your phone, I am simply sharing my experience
Okay, this is not for the faint of heart and is going to sound a little backward but it just worked for me 5mins ago. I am running Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit, so there shouldn't be a problem with your setup. I was having the same problem until I just double clicked on flashing.bat or main.bat instead of running as admin. After all I AM the admin of my PC. Then, it worked perfect...until flashing the tz.mbn file and froze up while writing the file. I thought mmm...it shouldn't take that long to write such a small file, and writing happens on the phone side (I believe) so I hit the phone's power button while leaving the Myth Tools window open, which disconnected the phone obviously. I booted back into fastboot and it continued from where it left off. (Note: I did this a few weeks ago when I lost my radios and manually flashed the modem file, which froze, but I followed the same procedure and it successfully flashed it) Then when it got to the last system.img chunk (it writes it in small chunks of 30mb and the last one is smaller, that's how I knew it was the last one) it froze again. I let it sit for about 5mins just to make sure it was written to the phone the repeated the sequence to reboot manually into fastboot and bang, once again it continued right where it left off. one or two more freezes and voila...it rebooted right back to stock. Any questions don't hesitate to ask.
If this helps you hit that thanks button!

[GUIDE] Downgrade Zenfone 2 Laser to any official firmware

I have discovered multiple ways of downgrading ZenFone 2 Laser out of which two methods proved out to be easy and reliable. Both methods have been tested and are working.
Method 2 doesn't require root while method 1 needs root access.
Pre-requisite: Stock firmware zip file. You can find download links from index thread for all variants.
WHILE THIS GUIDE HAS VERY LESS CHANCES OF MESSING UP YOUR DEVICE, HUMAN ERROR CAN ANYWAY HARM THE DEVICE. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING YOU DO TO ANY DEVICE. YOU ARE DOING THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK
METHOD 1: Requires ROOT-
Short instruction:
Some users say you can downgrade by renaming the OTA zip to correspond to a higher version but that will NEVER work because the update script has this line
(!less_than_int(1457089250, getprop("ro.build.date.utc"))) || abort("Can't install this package (Fri Mar 4 19:00:50 CST 2016) over newer build (" + getprop("ro.build.date") + ").");
Click to collapse
The recovery reads ro.buid.date.utc value from buid.prop. If the value is less than the value in updater-script (like the value highligted in above quote) any recovery will not flash it, neither stock nor custom. Just increaase the value of ro.build.date.utc (in build.prop) to any value higher than the value in updater-script and then flash the zip via recovery.
Detailed Instructions:
1. Open updater-script from the firmware zip. It will be found in /META-INF/com/google/android inside the .zip
2. look at the first line (!less_than_int(1457089250, getprop("ro.bui....
3. The value 1457089250 is taken as an example, your updater-script may have a different value. Keep a note of this value.
4. Install any root file manager like ES file explorer (if you dont have already)
5. Goto /system (the system folder) using the root file manager. Grant root access if prompted
6. Open buid.prop file as text and look for the line "ro.build.date.utc=1446585430"
1446585430 is taken as example, your phone will have a different value.
7. Now increase this value in build.prop to any number greater than the value you noted from updater-script
for example, if my updater-script has 1457089250 this value and buil.prop has 1446585430 this value, I will simply change the value in build.prop to 1546585430 or 1448585430 or 1457089251. Any number greater than 1457089250 will work in my case.
8. Now reboot to recovery (vol down + power)
9. Select "apply update from external sd card" select your firmware zip file, and then select yes to flash. It will take 5-10 min
10. (optional but recommended) Wipe factory/data . If you don't do this, you will see the annoying "Android is upgrading.." screen which takes around 30-40 mins to reach home screen.
Method 2: Without root, requires computer
Short instructions:
As I mentioned earlier, recovery reads "ro.build.date.utc" But you can bypass this check by erasing system partition.
Just do
Code:
fastboot erase system
from fastboot mode and then flash the zip from recovery
Detailed Instructions:
1. Install Asus drivers to your computer. (link in index thread)
2. Download adb_fastboot.zip and extract its contents
3. Reboot your phone to 'bootloader mode'. To do this turn of your phone completely. Hold "volume down Up" button and then press and hold power button. Release power button after Asus logo appears and then release volume down button. Your phone is now in bootloader mode.
4. Connect your phone to pc via a reliable usb cable. Look at your phone screen. It should display "Fastboot mode!"
5. Now go to the folder where you have extracted all the files. Holding down shift key, Right click on any point on white screen. Then click on 'open command window here' from the menu that appears. Command Prompt will open now
6. On command prompt type
Code:
fastboot devices
and hit enter
and check if it is detecting your device.
7. Then type
Code:
fastboot erase system
(this will erase your current OS, you are warned!)
8. After it is done type
Code:
fastboot oem reboot-recovery
to boot into recovery mode
Successfully downgraded to 1.16.40.763 from 1.17.40.1234 without root
Thanks!

"Failed to mount /asdf" error is harmless you will get that error even on latest twrp. You can ignore the error and use the MM stock recovery like normal. Recovery will do its job it can format, install updates, clear cache and everything, you just need to ignore that /asdf error
But you can use any stock recovery from any firmware version lower than or equal to your current firmware version. Drawbacks: You cannot apply update to MM OTAs if your recovery version doesn't match the current firmware version.
Going back to stock 1.13 is a bad idea. I would recommend you to stay on MM since it has many performance improvements.
But still if you want to go back to lollipop, consider downgrading to the last lollipop update i.e. v1.17.40.1531
Xda Tips: 1. Never quote the entire OP (the main post here, called original post)

I got a 412 mb ota update some days before. I downloaded it. Apply it for proceed. Then it start checking system as usual phone restarted. But update did not happened. Instead this same error show up. Then i can only reboot system. Got an update failed message.since that when i check for updates iam not even getting any. May be it will be solved by a factory reset .but even if i get an ota. The update wont proceed .because the recovery wont allow me to do that
And also that wipe cache partition also results the same error .so without solving this error i cant update to the latest MM too :/ .
In my experience, the most reliable method is to
extract the recovery from the version of stock ROM you want to upgrade or downgrade to
Flash that recovery with fastboot
Wipe /system in fastboot
Reboot to recovery and update with the stock ROM .zip
Or
Even easier, use Sziraqui's fastboot ready .IMG files and just flash them via fastboot.:good:

The recovery is included in the stock ROM zip file. Extract the zip and you will find it inside.
Presumably if you want to flash the stock ROM you have already downloaded it?

Thank you.
Can ZE551KL use the recovery.img from ZE550KL? My ZE551KL has the extra 1700(AWS) band.
Please where are you guys downloading your stock rom from?
The stock zip is NOT flash-able like a custom ROM .zip. That's not how it works. If the Roms you have are custom recovery flash-able, they are not the OEM rom, they have been modified.
All the Roms I have come with a recovery.img file...
Then again if I have to explain how to use fast boot to flash the recovery, there is a good chance you shouldn't be messing around with fast boot.......

You don't need to unlock bootloader for flashing stock recovery that you downloaded from the above mega drive.
To flash the recovery.img (or any .img) You need to have Adb and fastboot files in your pc as well as Asus Zenfone drivers installed
All info and downloads for adb and fastboot can be found here
Search and download Asus ZenFone 2 laser drivers.
Once you have your pc setup with these tools,
With Administrator priveleges, locate the folder where adb.exe and fastboot.exe files are present. Hold down shift key and right click on that folder and select "open command window here". Then reboot your phone to fastboot mode [power off, hold vol up +power, release power when logo appears]
Connect your device to pc.
Type the following command on cmd
Code:
fastboot devices
Output should be something like this
Code:
FCAHSJSJJAKAK fastboot
This command will check if your device is connected or not
If output is blank, device is not being detected.
To flash recovery.img, copy the recovery.img file to the same folder where fastboot.exe exists and then type
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Output is easy to understand, if it says [OKAY] then flashing succeeded
Tried downgrading ze551kl by fastboot erase system then installing .zip from Asus website (via sdcard). All of the Asus updates except the earliest fail with 'fota return code 403'.
1.14.40.550 installs ok but then boots (gets as far as displaying the wallpaper), gives an error message in german (looks like 'android media process stopped') and goes into boot loop. Anyone seen this before?
Also, any way to build a recovery.img from the Asus update files?
invalid boot image whenever i flashed stock recovery, any one know why ?
What i do is flash the stock recovery and flash relock bootloader.

I think OP needs a small correction to enter into FASTBOOT you need to press volume up and power instead of volume down and power buttons
---------- Post added at 05:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:38 PM ----------

Bricked p10, need help.

So I have a p10, and decided to see what i could do with it. Having little experience, I managed to get somewhere. Unlocked the bootloader, got twrp, installed it with the command fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and got:
target reported max download size of 471859200 bytes
sending 'recovery' (32034 KB)...
OKAY [ 1.012s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 0.200s]
finished. total time: 1.222s
WOOT! Awesome! No problems! Then I issued: fastboot boot recovery.img
And got
downloading 'boot.img'...
OKAY [ 1.020s]
booting...
FAILED (remote: Command not allowed)
finished. total time: 1.030s
WTF?!
So after a bit, I misread and flashed boot.img with: fastboot flash boot boot.img
I guess I flashed the wrong image. I dunno. But now it boots into the screen that tells me "Your device is unlocked and can'r be trusted" tells me its booting, reboots, goes to the same screen again, says its rebooting again, then brings me to Huawei eRecovery. I connect to my wifi network, telling it to download the latest version and recover, and it says "getting package info failed" So I ma stuck with a device that won't boot.
Oh yes, and down volume and power don't bring me to fastboot anymore.
Begging for help here please.
Do the whole rebranding to unbrick, not sure if you flashed wrong image on boot.
Advice: When flashing recovery boot it by powering off and using key combo. Or adb command. Not from fastboot as IMG.
I did a google search on rebranding to unbrick, and found a guide on the 9. So I assume its similar. It first tests me to boot into twrp. I can't. Twrp never got installed. The next step is to get the offical firmware and put it on the SD card. I can't find it. I am in Canada, and can't find any firmware for canada, nevermind anything north american. It is however possible I have found the wrong guide, as I don't really know what I am doing. As a complete noob, links to guides would be nice when possible and available when making recommendations.
The guide is the same for Mate 9/pro and P10/plus
Original: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/how-to/guide-mate-9-flash-update-package-t3593108
Explained as easy as posible:
Unlock bootloader (check again that boot loader is unlocked)
Download Update ZIP. I suggest rebrand to VTR-L29 C432 !
A. Get ROM update link through hwmt.ru. Click "filelist.xml". ---> http://hwmt.ru/hwmtsite/firmware-database/?firmware_model=VTR-L29&firmware_page=0
B. Observe "update.zip" size, choose more than 1GB file size FULL OTA . Example VTR-L29C432B164 filelist Link, all three update files and path are in the filelist.xml content.
update.zip: Change URL last "filelist.xml" to "update.zip" download file.
update_data_public.zip: Change URL last "filelist.xml" to "public/update_data_full_public.zip" download file, and rename it to "update_data_public.zip"
update_all_hw.zip: Change URL last "filelist.xml" to "hw/spcseas/update_full_hw_spcseas.zip" download file, and rename it to "update_all_hw.zip" Where spcseas is the model of the file you are downoloading.
Update Package (Download these at original post)
Base: HWOTA_2017050101_Base.zip
OS: Windows -> HWOTA_2017050101_Windows.zip
Model: P10 -> HWOTA_2017050201_VTR.zip [Thanks to @crucky verify]
Put HWOTA on pc desktop and on your external SD card (if you have one, otherwise update process will took a couple of minutes more)
Those 3 downloaded files goes on UPDATE dir, inside HWOTA
Run batch file "update.bat" for same model update or rebrand with/without sdcard.
Select rebrand chose what model is desired (Must be the same as the update package)
Always check the process continues (Sometimes it stucks on twrp or need reconnect to PC)
Once finished Factory default reset will start
Do the process twice! select "Same model update" on the second time.
After update successfully, device might be locked again.

okay, i know you are trying to be helpful, but I just can't follow it...
You said "Download Update ZIP. I suggest rebrand to VTR-L29 C432 !" Which one of them? Is the B just a build number, and I should get the latest? please remember, you are talking to a noob.
You talk about 3 files, update.zip, update_data_public.zip and update_all_hw.zip Do I need them all? If so the last one, where I change filelist.xml to all /cn/update_full_all_cn.zip doesn't work. See the following link http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/.../v92067/f2/full/all/cn/update_full_all_cn.zip
Also, rename the file, "Where spcseas is the model of the file you are downoloading" Huh? I know I have to replace the word spcseas with something, but with that?
Now it says to run update.bat Whats the point? I have not been directed to plug the phone into the computer, and even if I did, the computer won't recognize it because I can't get it into any mode... Where do I put these files? They all go in the same directory? I just can't follow this guide as much as I try..
THERE IS GOOD NEWS HOWEVER!
I have been able to get it into TWRP! This means I can get into fastboot, which means I can re-flash the correct boot.img, IF I can get my hands on it (and assuming that's the actual issue It likely is. It was working until I flashed this other boot.img file.). So if I can get direction on how to get it, I should be okay. Double triple and quadruple bonus points for just providing me a direct link to the boot.img file to use without having to play around trying to follow guides I can't seem to understand.
UPDATE!!
Now although I can get into TWRP, its hit and miss, but I can get there eventually, it will no longer boot into fastboot/recovery. When I click reboot, and choose bootloader in TWRP, it just freezes..
This is getting frustrating. Apparently getting into the bootloader is hit and miss, but i can do it.
Search for Huawei update extractor in order to get BOOT.IMG from update.app (inside update zip) I could upload one myself, but I'm not at home right now.
TWRP doesn't support reboot atm. You must power off completly. To boot to recovery press power on and vol + until huawei logo appears, then relase power. It should boot to recovery TWRP in this case.
For boot bootloader you press vol - when you are connecting usb cable to PC.

Thats good to know. I was getting TWRP more often when I did it from off. What was happening was I would holds power and volume up, release power when the logo appeared, and MOST of the time I would boot into TWRP. Sometimes it would just reboot, I would continue to hold up, and it would either reboot, or boot into TWRP. Occasionally I would get the recovery that came with the phone ?!?!
In any event, I managed to get into TWRP, boot into recovery, extract the boot.img, flash it... AND IT WORKED! Phone booted!
So after all this, I backed up EVERYTHING I could using TWRP. The Boot partition, System partition, EVERYTHING! It kept failing on the Data partition, but from my research that wasn't that important anyway. I then installed SuperRoot_noverity_nocrypt.zip, rebooted, installed phh's SuperUser, installed Root Checker, and finally, I have root!!
Thank you so much for the help. About to go "thank clicking" for all the help you provided.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1" - SM-T515 / SM-T510 - Root + TWRP - Android 11 - September 8th 2021 Security Update

/*** BEGIN DISCLAIMER ***/
If you follow this procedure and lose every bit of content on your device / end up with a fancy paperweight, I, nor anyone involved with the referenced open source or otherwise licensed projects is responsible. It's all on you, and this will void your warranty. Do not proceed if you don't understand something. Chances are you will have a bad time.
/*** END DISCLAIMER ***/
Hey everyone - my Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1" (2019) - SM-T515 - recently applied a security update without my consent (The Samsung Android 11R September 8th 2021 Security update - side note, make sure that you turn off Samsung's push service ), which canned my previous root access. I use server software and internal port forwarding to do... Things on my device, so I needed my root access back.
Here's how I retrieved it, and how I put TWRP in place as my recovery partition in the process.
The Tools
Make sure you have these before you start. Because this is a Samsung device, you'll have to do some things under Windows, like using Frija and Odin (unfortunately).
1.) Frija - Available here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/tool-frija-samsung-firmware-downloader-checker.3910594/
2.) The latest SM-T515 / SM-T510 firmware from Samsung for your device's CSC (if you use the firmware for the wrong CSC code the most common problem that I have seen as a result is typically incorrect partition sizes after flashing, which can be corrected with TWRP). Frija is listed first, because you'll use Frija to get this directly from Samsung.
3.) Some kind of generic tool that you're comfortable with for working with archives. Ideally whatever tool you choose should be able to work with .tar, .gz, and .zip archives for this process. Personally I like 7-Zip on *Nix and Windows, and ZArchiver on Android.
4.) Odin (firmware flash tool by Samsung) - attached.
5.) The latest Samsung device USB drivers for your environment (they're fine as long as they enable both ADB and MTP correctly) - available here https://developer.samsung.com/mobile/android-usb-driver.html
6.) The latest TWRP image for Samsung SM-T5xx devices - available here https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=14943124697586374577 (and attached)
7.) ADB - downloading / installing and using adb are outside the scope of this post. It is available here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...vers-15-seconds-adb-installer-v1-4-3.2588979/
8.) The latest Magisk APK file - available here https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases/download/v23.0/Magisk-v23.0.apk
The Process
0.) Back up your stuff, and remove your SD card if it makes you more comfortable - do whatever you need to do to be comfortable with "I might lose EVERYTHING on this device." If you plan on following this procedure, you should know how to do this, and I'm not going to try to explain it. If you can't get past this part, you should stop while you're ahead and still have a device that boots.
1.) Unlock your bootloader.
2.) Download the most recent firmware package for your device using Frija and extract all of the individual .md5 files which it contains.
2.) Use Odin to flash the most recent firmware to your device, and factory reset / wipe / format partitions and caches until you have a clean device that boots correctly. If your partitions aren't sized properly at this point it isn't something to be too concerned with, as you can correct them later using TWRP.
3.) Turn developer options back on, enable USB debugging, set the default USB configuration to "File Transfer", connect your device to your PC and copy the Magisk APK over to the internal storage of your device.
4.) Remove .md5 from the filename of the AP file that was included in your firmware package from Samsung and extract its contents into its own directory.
5.) Extract the contents of the latest TWRP package for these devices into the same directory where you extracted the individual partition image files contained in the AP file. Overwrite contents in the destination directory as necessary. The TWRP package should contain three files - param.bin.lz4, recovery.img.lz4, and vbmeta.img.lz4 - If there are uncompressed images (.img files) that correspond to the LZ4 compressed images from the TWRP package in the AP file of your firmware package, remove them first. Odin will (understandably) freak out if you try to flash two different images to the same partition in the same flash operation.
6.) Compress the contents of your modified AP directory which now contains the TWRP package's contents into a tar ball on your PC, and then copy it somewhere that Magisk will be able to access it on the Internal storage of your device (the Downloads directory - "/storage/emulated/0/Downloads/" is a good choice).
7.) Copy the latest Magisk APK to your device (again, the Downloads directory is a good choice), and then install it on your device.
8.) Launch Magisk on your device and choose "Install". Be sure to uncheck the "Recovery Mode" option. We don't want to use "Recovery mode" for Magisk's patching process. Even though this is a Samsung device and this would normally be how to proceed, in this case we're using our own custom TWRP recovery partition, and we don't want Magisk to mess with it. So make sure you aren't patching the bootloader or recovery images in unnecessary ways with Magisk.
9.) In Magisk on your device, choose "Select and patch a file" and then choose the AP file that you created and copied to the device which now contains TWRP as its recovery partition.
10). Let Magisk do its patching and when it has completed take note of where the patched file which it generated was written.
11.) Launch a command line / Powershell / Bash terminal where you can perform ADB commands, and issue the command "adb pull "/storage/emulated/0/Download/magisk_patched-23000_xYzXyZ.tar" (replace "XyZxYz" with whatever random sequence of characters that Magisk generated during its patching operations) to use ADB to download the patched AP file from your device.
12.) Power off your device.
13.) Reboot your device into FANCY download mode by holding the volume up and volume down keys simultaneously while inserting a USB cable that is connected to your PC into your device's USB C charger port. Your device should boot as you insert the USB cable and your bootloader should already be unlocked, so when prompted press the volume up button to continue.
14.) Launch Odin on your PC, and choose the BL, CP, CSC, and UserData images from the firmware package that you retrieved from Samsung to flash the corresponding slots in Odin. In the AP file slot, choose the Magisk patched AP file which contains TWRP as its recovery partition which you retrieved previously using ADB.
15.) Start the flash operation in Odin, and wait patiently for it to complete. Stay alert, because if you left "Auto reboot" checked in the Odin options, your device will reboot immediately upon completion, and there are actions that you need to take while the device is in its "off" state before it re-launches itself.
16.) Once the Odin flash operation has completed, boot to recovery mode. If you left "Auto reboot" checked in Odin, immediately as the flash operation completes, press and hold the power key and the volume up key and remove the USB cable from the device. Otherwise press and hold the power button and the volume down button until the device restarts, and while the device is in its "off" state remove the USB cable and press and hold the power button and the volume up button during device restart to enter recovery mode.
17.) Immediately upon entering recovery mode you should see TWRP do a couple of things that ensure that Samsung's device protection solutions don't remove it. Once those operations have completed, reboot into the system partition.
18.) Your device should be BASICALLY ready to go. Go through the steps to "complete" setup as you see fit. If you have not already done so, connect your device to a WiFi or to an LTE network and then launch the Magisk application.
19.) Magisk may want to download updates, if it does, let it do so.
20.) Once any necessary updates / downloads have completed, re-launch Magisk and it should present you with a prompt to the effect of "Magisk is installed, but additional configuration needs to be done on your device for it to work the right way. Do you want to reboot now?" If you've made it this far, the answer is "Yes, please do."
21.) After rebooting, your device will now be configured, and be running TWRP in its recovery partition, along with a properly Magisk rooted system partition.
22.) ????
23.) PROFIT!
I hope this helps some people out!

I can provide screenshots from the device that I did this to if you would like.
It's pretty cool to see the TWRP logo on a Samsung Tab series device that's running Android 11.
I don't even get the little Samsung warning prompt during device bootup that says "This device's software can't be verified" or whatever Samsung's custom ROM message is. All I get is the "This device's bootloader is unlocked" message, no warning about the integrity of the software.

Yeah - pretty much exactly that, except I Magisk patched the system image, and then copied the TWRP package's vbmeta and recovery image into the AP file for the Odin flash, and then flashed every slot rather than just the AP.
is it systemless root?
Will this work on Galaxy Tab A sm-t595? on android 10?
or know of a root guide that will work with said device?
If you dont untick auto reboot, how do you fix any issues that happen because of it?
I rooted my t500 but I think it auto rebooted, which then caused a vbmeta error that stopped it booting. It worked again after flashing the stock rom, but now it gives a vbmeta error if I try to flash a modded rom to root it and I cant get oem unlock to appear in the stock os (download mode says its already unlocked tho)
Hello,
Code:
9.) In Magisk on your device, choose "Select and patch a file" and then choose the AP file that you created and copied to the device which now contains TWRP as its recovery partition
Step 9 yields an error on T515 : Unsupported/Unknown image format
I also tried to install AP patched file with Odin, same result.
Any idea ?
Damn this works so nicely, thanks mate! Cheers!

[Guide] Get out of Qualcomm Crashdump Mode for Android 11

Before you start, make sure to put all of the files that you need in the same folder as your adb.exe and fastboot.exe because it will make things easier when you have to fastboot files to your phone. Make sure to follow the directions from the original developers of the tools below. Also, in the windows file explorer, right click on the "Name" tab, in the pop up click "More," select "Path," and also select "Folder Path," then click "Okay." This will make it easier to find the file path name if you need it when you are flashing a specific file to your phone using ADB.
Once you navigate to your android fastboot/adb folder, at the top of your file explorer, click in the address bar, this will highlight the text blue in the address bar, delete the text in the address bar, type CMD and then press enter. The adb/fastboot command window will pop up and be ready for you to use. You may as well leave that command window, the MSM tool, credits: Lucifer6: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/msm-tool-guac-for-all.3934691/ and the Tool all in One, credits: mauronofrio: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...boot-roms-for-oneplus-7-pro-7-pro-5g.3931424/ , https://toolaio.tk/ open in case one of these tools decides to bite you in the brain so hard your phone melts into booting itself properly.
You'll be needing this Twrp.img from this post if you're on android 11 like I am, credits: Nebrassy:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/recovery-11-unofficial-teamwin-recovery-project.4289455/
And Magisk, credit: topjohnwu, which can be downloaded from Step 1 in this article https://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-install-magisk/
Credit: Sumukh for the article (code word the instructions in this article are for a different breed of TWRP then the one needed for rooting android 11 OnePlus 7 Pro, so please after booting into TWRP go to "Advanced," then in the list click "Flash Current TWRP," then reboot straight back to TWRP, flash Magisk, then reboot straight back to TWRP, then flash Magisk again, and then reboot the system ((if possible at this time)) or you'll have boot loops for breakfast), credits: topjohnwu for Magisk
And the android 11 stock rom of your oneplus 7 pro which can be found here, credit OPTeam: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...a-oxygen-os-repo-of-oxygen-os-builds.3930585/
I wasn't able to use MSM Tool by Lucifer6 because my phone didn't want to be recognized by my computer and I am not sure the files exist for android 11 to work with the MSM Tool, but if they do exist or there is a way to use the android 11 zip with the MSM Tool, please someone post it with detailed instructions so that everyone can find it.
I couldn't get the Tool All in One to work because I don't know, however, there are important files in mauronofrio's zip file in this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...boot-roms-for-oneplus-7-pro-7-pro-5g.3931424/ Grab the zip file from the link next to "All Roms on AFH." This can help get your phone back from the nightmare of the qualcomm crashdump scenario. If you are on android 11, do not flash the images in this zip folder because the zips in this post are for android 10 and I don't think you can downgrade. There are more directions about this in number 3 of this post.
If at any point you are able to boot your phone into the system, DO NOT put a password, fingerprints, facelock, swipe pattern, nudey collage on your phone to lock it up until AFTER you are sure you are completely done using TWRP, because Nebrassy's TWRP, as far as I know, is not supposed to be able to decrypt the phone once it has a nudey papier-mâché password on it. So, once you put a password on your phone, you may not be able to use TWRP again unless you like pain.
And yes, I did try, in the past week to clean install my rom, made sure to not create a password, flash TWRP and magisk, make a password for the phone, realized I needed to do something else in TWRP, deleted my papier-mâché password and the fingerprints to go along with and then try to get back into TWRP. It's really a hit or miss. You may get back in, you may end up flashing something only for it to get stuck in a TWRP booting boot loop like I did.
It's risky. Take off your password to your phone, then TWRP it up, say your goodbyes to TWRP and then finish setting up your phone with a password. Also, you may have to try plugging the OEM charging cable into different USB ports on your computer at specifically any time.
There are three different recipes that I tried to get my phone to work again after crash dumping. Any one of these could help. For me, it took doing all three, trial and error and error and error for my phone to get booted and rooted after the crash dump so you can try doing the easiest looking ones first, which are number 1 and number 2, see if that works, and then move on to the harder one.
Read all three recipes first before you try anything because some things from number two you can use in one or three. You're in for a real one right now so relax and get comfy. Take your time and make sure you follow the directions in the original posts by the developers because it will waste less of your time if you make sure you extract everything and other scientific ratchet. And you'll make less of a mess of your phone than it already is.
It's bricked, not dead. Hopefully. Hopefully, it's not dead. And I'm not much for hope nor am I much for being blamed if your phone slips into an endless hell pit, it contacts a plane's black box and directs said plane to land onto your roof, or some other maniacal nonsense backwater dribble okay let's get started.
1.) Easy: I used a combination of movements buttons including power off and volume down, only volume up and volume down which did other things, and power off and volume up. At first, none of these movements buttons would take me to fastboot mode. It would just keep rebooting to qualcomm crashdump mode no matter what.
Flustered, red, breathing hard because I don't walk enough, I tried these movements buttons again and again and again and again and not always in the order I wrote them down. I kept trying until I saw some Chinese writing.
Choose the first option even if you can't read the text. Guess where the "Okay" (bottom right) is and click it. The text--the first option--is highlighted in blue, which I should have said in the first place. Hopefully after twitching that phone for a good 30-45 minutes or more depending on how long you like crying, it will finally boot into fastboot mode. Plug the phone to the windows, fastboot boot the twrp.img from Nebrassy in the CMD window. If you are still trying to root, grab a usb or an external hard drive that has the rom zip and the latest magisk.apk that you need for your phone (directions below). If you are not trying to root, grab a usb or an external hard drive that has the rom zip and just flash the rom and that's it (directions below).
Plug the USB storage into your phone. On twrp go to "Mount," click the checkbox next to "USB Storage," click "Select Storage," then in the pop up click the circle next to your USB or external hard drive or whatever you're using. Go to "Install," select the zip of the rom on your USB Storage, click "Install."
You can then flash twrp afterwards by going back in the past and selecting to have TWRP flashed automatically after a rom installation; it's in the options. Or by going to "Advanced," then click "Flash Current TWRP" (mind you this is for the Oneplus 7 Pro using the TWRP 3.5.2_11-Nebrassy image in October of 2021, so if you're reading this and have a different phone or you're from the future, please, don't laugh at me if the current way of flashing TWRP is outdated by the time you read this).
Then you must flash magisk, reboot to TWRP recovery, and then flash magisk again or else the phone won't boot. After flashing magisk that second time, you may reboot the system. Once you get past those sussy terms and voluntary agreements, magisk will look like an android 1 icon. Click it.
The phone will ask you for your hand in marriage by asking if you are truly ready to jump off the deep end by allowing magisk to install unknown apps. Click I do, and magisk will install. Then, magisk will ask you to install the other half of itself, and again, make that app yo baby momma by saying yes, yes, yes. And now you have a new phone with none of your old life to spy on you and tell you how good you weren't in the past or whatever.
3.) Not so easy, but manageable. Caution, read slowly: Another thing I did try was to flash all of the images in the stock rom zip. You can download the correct rom for your phone in this post, credit OPTeam: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...a-oxygen-os-repo-of-oxygen-os-builds.3930585/ ,search the googles, or use the OEM website. Then, use the payload dumper method from here: credits to djsubterrain
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...ot-image-and-apply-root-to-the-phone.4263811/
After I djsubterrained my payload, all of this sounding unnecessarily dirty, I put it in this other thing that I tried (directions below): credits to mauronofrio

I downloaded the zip file from the above post in the link next to "All roms on AFH." Extract it. Once I did the dump on my payload, I took all of the extracted images from the "payload_output" folder, put them in a new folder inside of mauronofrio's extracted zip folder, named that new folder "images," and just renamed the original "images" folder that was in the zip file to something else.
In mauronofrio's extracted zip folder, I copied the file named "flash-all-partitions-fastboot.bat" from the "Others_flashall" folder and pasted it into my new "images" folder. I double clicked on the "flash-all-partitions-fastboot.bat" file. An alluring window opened and I typed "Y" for yasss and then clicked "Enter."
And then that flashed most of the images to the phone. Not all of the images flashed. Some of them said "failed," but the important ones like the system.img and boot.img, among others, flashed successfully. I have no idea if using that specific ".bat" file was the right one for my situation because I wasn't sure if I was wearing comfy enough pants to be seen by the oracle.
After that, I did the the whole fastboot boot to TWRP and flashed the zip rom over again using my USB storage because it was easier for me to do that than to figure out how to adb sideload when the adb sideload button in TWRP wasn't working and while I was crash dumping for qualcomm, my phone refused to be recognized by the Tool All In One and the MSM Tool. Then I flashed TWRP, then I flashed magisk, rebooted to recovery, flashed magisk again, and then I tried to reboot to the system. But my phone booted back to twrp, a lot, a lot of times before the end of this story.
2.) Also easy: I think from TRWP (or you can use the power and volume buttons mantra from number one) I clicked on reboot the bootloader from fastboot mode. I used the up and down volume buttons to select "Bootloader" or "Start" (do both until the "Boot Reason" screen shows up for you).
For whatever reason I clicked "Boot Reason" and the reason was something made up like fs_mgr_mount_all. I clicked "Next" at the bottom of the screen and it asked me to wipe everything like music and photos which I already thought were long gone. But I have a backup of my music and my photos so no big deal.
I clicked on "wipe all data," and my phone finally booted back up into the OS. I went through the completely voluntary terms and conditions and voluntarily, completely voluntarily, and no one else is here with me, agreed to the voluntary terms and conditions. And then I clicked on the android 1 icon for magisk and...
At some point in time I formatted the system using TWRP after flashing the zips and the stuffs and now even though my phone says encrypted, the first time I booted back to twrp after finishing setting up my phone and putting a password on it, TWRP said that it decrypted USER 0 after putting my password into TWRP. I have no idea how it happened.
Nebrassy's TWRP is not supposed to be able to do that for android 11 as far as I know. About 30 mins later I booted back to TWRP just to see what would happen, and sure enough it took my password and decrypted my phone. Even though I am on android 11, rooted with a TWRP that is not supposed to be able to decrypt USER 0. I don't know how. Maybe I'll try to upload a log file so that can be figured out, or maybe by now it has already been figured out. Don't know.
So, that was fun, I hope you were able to get out of the crashdump by any of the means used here or not here. If you were able to get out of the qualcomm crashdump some other way or have advice on how any of the recipes could have been cooked better please post it in a forum or in this thread or sector B.92-80 of space so that no one ever comes close to using the very last tears their body has to offer.
I'm sorry if I forgot to give credit to anyone but at this point you'll have to flash me into recovery to get it. Or just say "I belong in here too," and post a link to your something helpful.
