Blank recovery screen and boot up screem - Samsung Galaxy S20 FE Questions & Answers

Hello. For a while now, I haven't been able to see anything when I boot my device into recovery mode. The screen remains blank unless I press the power button, which makes my device reboot. I can boot ok into bootloader but even when I try booting into recovery from bootloader, I still don't see anything on the screen.
Also, whenever I boot up my device, after the "Galaxy s20 fe 5g | Powered by Android" pops up, instead of showing the Samsung logo, my screen goes blank, and it stays like that until the boot is done. The only way I know my device is booted up is by a vibration.
I feel like the two problems are related. Is there something that can be done?

flash your firmware, if that doesn't fix it go see a Samsung service engineer.

But is it possible to also root my phone? I'm using the S20 FE 5G US version (G781U). I heard the bootloader in itself isn't unlockable.

no not possible unless you've not bothered to update for nearly a year.

Hi.
Please my brightness doesn't increase past the 50% level. Increasing it above that won't change the brightness. The brightness remains the same from 50% through to 100%. Is this a bug or something?
I don't have adaptive brightness on by the way so I know it isn't the problem. I've heard stores that people who backup settings from other phones and restore into new phones usually get this problem. What can I do?

you could try finding your settings apps and wiping their data. you'll have to bring up your system apps to do that... remember all device settings will go doing that.

[HELP] Display glitches/black screen

Greetings,
I'm not experienced with android devices, so i thought i'd ask here first before trying to do anything.
Since a few months ago some weird things started happening to my X8 - random display glitches and blackouts at completely random intervals (sometimes one or even two a day, sometimes it can last two or more weeks w/o an incident, i haven't figured out any relation yet).
Glitches manifest in distorted view on screen - shifted up/down/sideways - or colored graphics artefacts - up to completely bizarre patterns of random-colored pixels covering the whole screen. Weirdly enough, pushing power button as if to lock the screen usually alleviates the issue, sometimes i need to do it few times to remove completely, but it works. Touchscreen works fine, but i need to tap the "right" spot on the screen, not where it's displayed on the screen ("right" as in where the element is when the screen is not glitching).
The other issue (may be related) i'm having with the phone is random screen "blackouts" - the screen goes completely black and the power button cycling doesn't help - but the phone still reacts to screen input (i.e. i can unlock the screen by dragging the slider, launch app, start/stop music playback and so on). I can see the backlight on, so it's definitely screen/gfx hardware issue, not backlight. If i try to reboot the phone, it hangs on either shutdown or boot up. Removing the battery, placing it back and booting the phone up doesn't help - it vibrates as usual, i see the backlight go up, but screen stays black and i can't interact with the phone even if i leave it there for a few minutes (which is more than enough for it to boot up - it usually takes ~30 seconds till full boot). Also the backlight won't go off. It usually helps to boot normally if i hit the phone with a palm on the back side and/or leave it alone for a while. This issue is much more rare (only had it three times), but it puts the phone out of service for a while, so it's an issue for me.
Now, the device info:
Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 E15i
015 baseband
10W44
Unlocked bootloader
Alfs8 kernel (2.6.29.6-Alfs v08a 24/03/2012)
GingerDX v026 ROM
No cpu tweaks done, cpu governor "ONDEMAND", cpu speeds 122-600.
The glitches started when i was still using the older version, GindgerDX v013 with locked bootloader, i have done factory reset and flashed a new version with new kernel (and unlocked the loader along the way), but apparently it did not help fix the issues.
I can't provide and screenshots/photos of the issue because the only camera i have access to at most times when it happens is my phone one and, obviously, i can't use that in this case
The question is: can i still try to fix it by myself (i can do it if it doesn't involve disassembling the phone completely - i don't have the screwdrivers required) by software tweaks or other techniques or should i reflash stock kernel/rom, apply for warranty and hope they find the defect and fix it? I really do like the phone. Or, maybe, you have encountered anything resembling these issues and may shed some light on what's happening.
Appreciate any input in trying to figure out and fix this.
Thank you if you have read all this even if you can't help me, cheers!
1st problem could be 'Screen Cut' issue which is solved using kernel without FPS Cap...
2nd problem usually happens on my phone with miniCM9 3.0.2 but shows splash and boot animation...
Can you see the splash screen and the bootanimation? Because my friends' Xperia Ray has the issue on official firmware... so it could be hardware damage...
Try unlocking the screen then press the power button then press it again...
and also try flashing the stock firmware... If it doesn't work... I think you should live with it...
Sounds like a hardware problem to me. Reflash stock kernel and ROM and full wipe and then flash a different ROM and see it it still happens. If it does I think it is advisable to send it to Sony for repair.
Sent from my E15i using Tapatalk 2
Thanks for your replies, i'll try reflashing the stock rom and see if it still happens.
@Lily48: no, no splashcreen or boot animation, just black screen and visible backlight.
I have the same problem and I checked it many times and my conclusion is....ITS A HARDWARE PROBLEM NOT SOFTWARE..

Well, notify me if you find a solution, thanks
Sorry for double post, but this is important update:
My phone died this morning with the permanent black screen syndrome. Until i rebooted i could use it to receive phone calls or even listen to music (i knew where to touch to activate the features). However it would not boot sompletely after restart, even if i leave it for ~hour. Connecting to flashtool showed that it does boot to a certain stage, but no GUI (for user interaction with haptic feedback) available - the flashtool does show that device connected with usb debugging enabled.
I reflashed the stock ROM, now it's apparently stuck in some sort of bootloop - it keeps on connecting and disconnecting. But the screen is still black, with backlight. If i remove the battery, replace it and just connect to pc w/o trying to boot on, it acts normally as if trying to charge - backlight activates for a few seconds if i touch a key and green led is lit, but still the screen is black.
I will RMA it tomorrow, thanks for help, hopefully i'll get a new one, or they'll repair this one so it does not glitch on me again. Anyway it was/is a good phone, i absolutely love it.
Wish me luck =]

It is a hardware problem and Sony Service Center is the last option you have.. if your X8 is in warranty period.
I did the same and they replaced its display with new one.
Hello, reporting back in:
Just got my X8 back, it really was a hardware problem. They changed the screen now it works as good as new =]
Thanks everyone for support

Pure 5.1: Boots, has moto display, but black screen when I unlock

So currently I can boot my phone and it displays the boot screen fine. Once its done loading though I just have black screen. Moto display still works and shows new notifications but if I try to unlock the phone its still just the black screen. I can hold down the power button and the power menu shows up fine. I tried clearing the cache but that didn't help. Before I do a factory reset I thought I might see if any one here had some ideas on solutions.
I have the latest 5.1 OTA update. My phone us unlocked, but not rooted. I tried to hook it up to my computer to see if I could at least grab my files off of it, but while it shows up on my computer I can't access any actual files or directories.
I've tried searching around, but I can't find anyone else with a similar issue. Last night my phone battery ran down to zero (and rather quickly compared to normal usage). I may have ****ed it up by trying to get it to boot and be usable while charging but with the battery only at 1% (I guess with the standard charger an in-use Moto X uses power faster than it can take it from the charger). I tried letting it charge for a few minutes and then letting it boot, but after a couple of minutes of use it would shut down again. I finally gave up and let it charge. I didn't really pay attention to its status, but in the middle of the night when I woke up I booted it before falling back to sleep. Not sure there's a connection to my issue and this or not.
Any ideas on what the cause might be or what I can try to do to remedy the issue without data loss?
Edit: I ended up just doing a factory reset and that worked. Admin can feel free to delete this thread if they want.
This sounds similar to the issue here:

This is a bug that needs to be reported to Motorola.
I am that guy from the second post, and I wasn't able to recover the phone. Connecting to PC did not do anything. I would like to ask: is it booting with the new boot animation? Or old one? Because mine showed old animation long after the update was sent out, so I'm thinking the update may have tried to apply and failed, thus breaking the phone. Should all efforts fail, your only bet is to boot into recovery (power + volume up when off, volume down, volume up in the option menu (to select recovery), then hold power when Android robot appears, and while holding it down, press the vol up button once to make the list of recovery options appear. Scroll down to wipe data/factory reset, press power to select, then find Yes to confirm. Good luck!
so this just happened
i came back from a trip and took a whoooole lot of photos. when i came back my battery went to zero and device switched off. i charged the phone to 10-20% and switched it on and all i see is blank screen only moto display is working and power off option is showing itself when i hold the power button which is the same problem as yours
havent done any factory reset yet. is there any way to retreive the photos since i dont want to lose them. there are around 600 and all of them are of the trip.
im on 5.1
there are other people too who faced the same problem and all of them are on 5.1 but there is no solution

Mine did this yesterday, although I'm not entirely certain that the battery hit zero percent. The best I could tell from looking through the logs in recovery was that something was trying to update and failed. I suspect that it was a push from Motorola that hosed it. The only way to fix it is to do a factory reset. Once I did that and restored all my apps the battery was draining at a rate of 40% per hour or so. I found that the package access helper was the culprit and rebooted the phone. Post reboot, I immediately noticed that the boot animation and Moto logo had changed from what they had been on 5.0/5.1 (prior to yesterday). I also noticed that some of the widgets I hadn't reconfigured after the reset were now back. Weird indeed.
Anyway, I have to agree with the others that this is a very bad bug, that needs to be fixed. I am cautiously optimistic that the factory reset has cured it but we'll see. Based on my experience with this phone so far and the sale of Moto to Lenovo, this will be my last Moto phone.
I am having the exact same issue. Has anybody had a luck resolving it short of a factory reset?
My phone battery died last night. I plugged my phone in, let it get about 15% charge, then tried to turn it back on. The phone boots like normal, but after the boot animation goes away, the screen is black. Active notifications still seem to work, and I can hold the power button to get the Power Down option. I can boot into the bootloader & access recovery just fine. However, my phone is fully stock (no root, no bootloader unlock, no anything). I can't seem to access ADB when the phone is powered normally (ie, when I'm at this mysterious black screen), but it's possible that USB debugging isn't even enabled.
So far, I've found a bunch people who've said a full factory reset will fix the problem, but I'm looking for another solution, or at least a way to grab my data before I reset. Since my bootloader's still locked, I can't seem to use fastboot boot to boot into TWRP, and I can't find any other way to access my data to copy it off the phone. I've tried wiping the cache using the stock recovery to no avail. Any suggestions?

Huawei P10 black screen

My Huawei P10 suddenly turned off. First it was darker but then I could not see anything. Now when I turn it on the screen works properly for like 10-15 seconds. The led indicator is there and vibrations work too. I never dropped it, and I still use the original software. It's stock.
I tried to remove both the SD card and sim. I tried to charge it. I also tried to reebot it several times. It's always the same, the screen shows the Huawei's logo perfectly, sometimes the animation after too, and then it turns black.
Please help, and sorry for my bad English.

I would try a factory reset in erecovery (turn your device off, press power and volume down simultaneously for 5 seconds, release power until you're in erecovery). Note that you will loose all your data, so if possible, take a backup with Hisuite first. If that doesn't help you can try a software repair with Hisuite. But most likely it is a hardware issue.
What @M1chiel said are your only options. When the screen goes black even while booting it seems to be a hardware issue - maybe the display controller on the logic board or a temperature problem with a faulty soldier point (it's common). Without good electronics knowledge and the right tools you aren't able to fix it. If you're under warranty bring it to your seller or send it to Huawei. If you have a Huawei store in your area then bring it there - of if you know someone with good electronics and smartphone knowledge give it to him.
But try first a factory reset, then update to the latest version if there's one, this should solve any software issue.

Question HELP! Screen just turned off and won't come back on, but the device works.

S21 Ultra, US Factory Unlocked model straight from Samsung. I've had it for a month.
I was in the middle of using it and the screen suddenly went black. It didn’t do any screen off animation or power off animation, it just suddenly turned black.
I know the phone still works because if I hold pwr+vol down I can feel the vibrations as it reboots. I can also use *./adb devices* and it lists the device as connected. It also automatically opens android file transfer when I plug it into my macbook. All these things suggest that the underlying phone works fine.
It’s just that the screen won’t turn on.
What can I do, short of sending it to samsung for a warranty claim?
So I switched to my backup phone, left to take care of some business, and now the s21u is working.............
I'm not sure I can trust it any more. But also, WTF happened?
That's very peculiar... Especially given that you force restarted it with PWB+VOL-UP. I would have expected it to turn the screen on upon restarting.
Maybe back up all your stuff, wipe it and take it to Samsung and see what they would say? Maybe they would find some issue and replace it..
This has happened to me twice since having it since 1/28. Both times I was listening to music. Music stops. Screen goes black....eventually comes back after pressing power button and rebooting. It's almost like Blue Screen of Death behavior

what's your software version? have you submitted an error report via samsung members app?
I had this same issue on my old S5 where my screen would sometimes go black and still work. As a workaround, I used 'scrcpy' an open-source tool available on Github. I could mirror my phone screen on a PC and control it.

Mysterious alternating bootup failure

I've got a strange bootup problem that I can't find any help on. My S20 FE 5G fails to boot properly on every other bootup. On the failed bootups, it spends 3-5 minutes on the initial Samsung S20 FE 5G splash screen (the one with the android logo). When it eventually gets past that screen, it boots up to the lock screen and prompts me to swipe, but all touch input is ignored. My only option is to hold power and volume down to force a power down. Powering back up, it will boot normally, spending only a few seconds on the splash screen before booting up and functioning as expected. It's been doing this for a long time, and today I finally got annoyed enough to try a factory reset, which hasn't solved the problem. I also lined up a safe mode boot with a failed boot, and the touch screen still didn't work in safe mode. Anyone know enough about how these phones boot up to explain why this alternating pattern of failures might occur? Is it alternating between two images of the OS and one of them is possibly corrupted? Is there any debugging method I can use to try and figure out what's going on?
I'm new here, so if there's a better place to ask this question, please let me know. Thanks!
I'd try flashing a stock rom to the phone, see that fixes it. if it doesn't you should get Samsung to look at it.
