Question about lack of A6 ROMs - Samsung Galaxy A6 Questions & Answers

After spending a couple of weeks searching for LineageOS for the A6 (not A6+), I've discovered that there's very little support for this device. Why is this?

Probably smaller userbase if we compare with other devices. Furthermore many things are common for most of the Exynos 7870 devices. Lack of roms shouldn't bother you, because we have GSI, so in this way you can run Android 11 and even Android 12 on A6.

My A6 works very well on Lineage R mod (Android 11).

So it's not so much as ROMs for the A6 but instead more GSIs for the A6? If I'm understanding correctly

Maybe not "instead", but they just work:

1. Go to custom recovery (recommended will be OrangeFox R11.0).
2. Wipe partitions: cache, dalvik, data, vendor, system.
3. Choose GSI from link above (I can recommend Lineage R mod but you can try different ones; choose arm32_binder64 vndklite builds), download, extract and flash it as "System Image" through custom recovery.
4. Flash vendor for A6 via custom recovery.
5. Optionally flash any custom kernel for A600X.
6. Reboot to system.
If you want typical OneUI rom then use RadicalQuack or JynxOS.

sorry lineage R mod support for A6+ S605G ?

Getting confused with the different versions for A6 / A6+ etc.
I have an SM-600FN model which I think is A6 (not S or +).
It's currently running stock 10 - is there a good 64bit ROM for this? I was thinking it'd be easy to pick out but it is old... I could only see an Android 6 64bit ROM?

For A600FN pretty stable arm64 rom is RadicalQuack. arm64 GSI is also possibile to run on arm64 vendor, but it's not perfect (unstable).

everytime i try these instructions out, and i boot into the system, it just takes me to the downloading screen. im really confused, can anybody help me?

never mind. i found a 64 bit vendor on this forum and decided to try it, and now it works.
just to clarify, the arm images werent working either, so its not just working because im using the right architecture

I'm looking for it too, but to no avail. ALL Ares treble kernels that support 64 bits send me to download mode after flashing them.

It brought you to download mode probably just because you used wrong architecture of GSI. Vendor from my previous post is intended for arm32_binder64 (A64 - not arm64) vndklite GSI images.

i just used a lineageos 18 gsi image and the treble vendor, but it turns out that while it did get to the boot screen that says lineageos (which gave me tremendous amounts of hope), it would NEVER boot up, so dont do what i did i guess lol
currently, im trying what nqnxev told me, and it should hopefully work

Android 12 works fairly well on the same vendor, but flash this recovery at first, because older OrangeFox can stuck while boot with Android 12.

What is treble and why is all the fuss about it?

Recently I saw that there appeared a new kind of roms which need a special recovery and, as I could find, have something to do with easier update of Android version. Also I have seen a project: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...-development/experimental-phh-treble-t3709659 which claims to have one rom file that can be flashed on a impressing number of roms. I saw the first comment by author which has a method to know if a device has support for treble and it is refered to run "treble check" app from play store on official rom. The thing is that I experimented and installed treble rom (lineage OS) from redmi 4x thread and did the check if the device is supported (the screenshot is attached below) and saw that on this rom it is supported, in contrary to MIUI. The question is about this controversion: is this device supported or not? Can I flash these ROMs from the thread? Are treble ROMs really like a universal flashable file for multiple devices?
If you flash GSI (Generic System Image) it will work on our device. Yes Treble roms are universally flashable if GSI is used, with some minimal modification for device specific. So porting roms will easier, and less time consuming.
Anyone can correct me, if i 'm wrong.

Yes, but follow the instruction there. Our device is A-only device. Use the special recovery here for flashing. Or flash the lineageos 15.1 treble edition first just find in on our device forum.

As far as i know the seamlees update works this way:
In slot A you have installed any OS Example Android 8.1
In slot B there is a backup of the OS Om slot A
This mean you can install the ota of Android P (example) in one of the slots while you are on Facebook for example

Android P Treble GSI

Has anybody tried the Android P DP4 GSI on the Xiaomi Mi 8/ Mi 8 SE?
Couldn't get the treble P GSI to boot on my Mi 8 SE but I managed to get the Oreo GSI running (doesn't have notch support though).

Which GSI booted on your SE?
Other Mi8 SE users reported that every GSI they flashes resulted in a bootloop.
Can you also mention the last MIUI version you had when you flashed a GSI?
As for P, you tried the semi-GSI, right?
Some people said that they had to fix things themselves for the image to boot but did you try flashing Magisk or setting Selinux to permissive? There should be a "permissiver" zip on the P gsi thread if I'm not mistaken.
dm-verity and selinux could cause a bootloop.

Got my Mi8 SE running MIUI 9 Chinese.
Unlocked the bootloader and flashed the latest Xiaomi.EU MIUI 10 ROM as a base and then tried both: GSI for phh-Treble AOSP and Resurrection Remix phh-Treble. Both worked surprisingly well, the notch being detected was the main issue. I followed this guide on xda.
Yes it was the P semi-GSI that resulted in a bootloop. Might try the permissiver zip.

Been wanting to get the 8 se, but I've been waiting to hear if phh-treble and other GSIs work before buying. other than notch problems are there any other major issues? Once P is released and phh-treble is updated to android 9 the notch won't be a problem anymore due to AOSP notch support.
Running lineage GSI on SE too without issues (except some full screen apps which do not support notch). The minimum brightness is a bit high.

Can you point me to a guide to run Lineage os or RR on out SE?
I am familiar in flashing custom for many years but i am new to treble and just heard about it.
Unlock your bootloader, flash a TWRP and format your data partition. Then flash and try to boot the latest xiaomi.eu rom. If you succeed, format /data /system /cache and flash /system with an arm64 GSI for A only devices such as https://github.com/phhusson/treble_...d/lineage-v21/system-arm64-aonly-gapps-su.img

ok, i am running xiaomi.eu rom so thats allready done.
The img i download is allready the lineage os, what i see
And is there a completely different forum/site where just. only trebel based custom roms are stored and discussed.
Is it gapps included, because normally it has to be flashed separtly.
Can you just format and go back to any miui rom, and when wanted to trebel based, just flash img file in /system again
Sorry for all the questions

Gapps are included in the above link. You don't need to flash anything else. And yes you can always flash the stock rom. Just remember to erase /data when you change between MIUI & AOSP based ROMs.

I didnt knew there was development at all for SE on custom roms
EDIT: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...opment/resurrection-remix-phh-treble-t3767688
this one is for RR, and if i am correct you linked me to the first in the V5 section, so the xiaomi mi 8 se is a ARM64 A-only device?
But what is the difference between gapps and vanilla

Gapps include google services, vanilla does not.
Mi 8/SE are ARM64 A-only devices. You can try flashing any treble based rom with a high chance to operate normally. With a decent treble implementation, there is no need for custom rom development. The device specific blobs are moved to a separate partition and are provided by vendor.

Notches are "expected" on AOSP only with P and newer Android versions.
It probably can be modded but since P is around the corner, it might not be worth it.

[Talk/Download] Android 10.0 for Samsung Galaxy S5

Good Morning/Evening ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, this is a talk of Android 10.0 for Samsung Galaxy S5.
Yes, LineageOS 17 for klte is now here. In testing state.
Just talk, share and star this thread to see the updates.
Updates and download links moved. https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...-samsung-galaxy-s5-talk-t3965502/post80268759
I hope someone out there could remember our old beloved S5 to work on the Android 10 Rom
And I pretty much hope developers take their time on Android 9 before they jump to 10. Android 8 for S5 is one to skip, because the development stopped to early. Android 9 should be bugfree and with all the good features of before, if possible as smooth as Android 7. Make the foundation solid before going on, so I'm pretty happy that there is no major work on Android 10 for S5 right now. Starting the development in half a year would be more than early enough. Please don't repeat the cycle of Android 8 for S5 ever again, coming up fast and being skipped as fast.

Android 8 was the one with significant changes that took a lot of time to get working. 9 and 10 are more like 8.2 and 8.3. I wouldn't expect LineageOS 17 to be significantly less stable.
Also, please don't link to that site, OP. It's nothing but clickbait, spam, and fake news.

Actually it isn't. This photo explains it.
If you don't believe me then check it yourself.
(Kind of offtopic) Also in OnePlus 6 forums of XDA LineageOS 17 has been released for it (unofficially).
In conclusion, fake news? Nope.
I also included that it needs to wait. No devs can do it instantly when the development has begun.
Updates on Android 10 ROMs for Samsung Galaxy S5s:
13/9/19: LineageOS 17 is ready for some devices, unofficially, Expect to have LineageOS 17 to be on Samsung Galaxy S5 Soon.
19/9/19: HavocOS just release official Android 10 ROM. The first official Android 10 custom ROM. As S5 is supported. It will happen soon. (A month I think?)
28/10/19: First unofficial LineageOS 17 klte has released.

As of now, still waiting for Android 10.
Project Mainline is the reason, which means that ROM developers won't have to update Security Patches if they want to.

Now kind of off topic, but I just open up a thread about Treble for S5, if any devs wanna see it then link here:

If someone is interested to try the LineageOS GSI image, then here it is for A-only device:
LineageOS 17 A-only GSI: https://github.com/ZJRDroid/firmwar...s/LineageOS-17.0-Aonly-10-20190912-GSI.img.7z

Permissiver v5: https://www.cyanogenmods.org/downloads/permissiver-v5-for-android-10-gsi/
IMPORTANT:
Backup every partition and keep it in a safe place before making any changes to your phone.
- Extract the above GSI compressed zip file where you will get system.img and vbmeta.img
- Wipe every partition except vendor and internal memory. IMPORTANT: Most likely Galaxy S5 won't have a vendor partition. Even if it has, don't wipe vendor partition.
- Flash the images via TWRP or fastboot utility.
- Once done, boot into TWRP and flash the Permissiver v5 and Zygote fix v2 zip files.
Try to boot and see if you are able to boot into LineageOS 17?
Let me know!

If someone is interested to try the LineageOS GSI image, then here it is for A-only device:
LineageOS 17 A-only GSI: https://github.com/ZJRDroid/firmwar...s/LineageOS-17.0-Aonly-10-20190912-GSI.img.7z

IMPORTANT:
Backup every partition and keep it in a safe place before making any changes to your phone.
- Extract the above GSI compressed zip file where you will get system.img and vbmeta.img

SM-G900I
Advanced wiped Dalvik / ART Cashe, System, Data and Cashe.
I did NOT wipe Internal Storage
Attempted to flash image (checked boot partition)
Result was "Size of image is larger than target device"
How does one determine an "A" only device?
Any ideas??

What were the options you had for installation of IMG.
Samsung Galaxy S5 doesn't have treble yet, at least for now.
Any devs who want to try porting treble to S5 could try to use the GSI, but however no devs wanted to try it.

Boot or recovery option

You can actually boot Note 3's LineageOS 17.1 builds on the S5, reportedly. I tried that yesterday and I can confirm it works. But obviously it has a whole lot of bugs so it is not recommended to do it.

You have to use a modified boot.IMG. Also, you need to modify the updater script from the file. But don't worry, you shouldn't even try that.

I also tried but i think you have to fool your recovery a little bit.

Galaxy M31 GSI

I am using Samsung m31, Exynos 9611, this phone is Project Treble supported. Does anyone tried GSI?
As it is running on exynos any chance?
Yes, it runs. I am currently using Corvus OS on M31s.
Install TWRP as mentioned for your device and then follow this guide
How to flash a Generic System Image (GSI) on Project Treble supported devices
So your device supports Project Treble, what does that mean for you? It means you can flash a Generic System Image such as LineageOS or Resurrection Remix! Enjoy AOSP-based custom ROMs! Here's a guide on how to install these ROMs.

Can you explain how you installed corvus os on m31s?
Thanks in advance
Installed TWRP as mentioned in the forum.
Followed the steps for TWRP way of installing GSI in the link of my precious posts in this thread. Normally, boot into the GSI. That's it.
PS - Only Corvus OS allows SafetynetBypass. I have tried it on phhussons GSI and haven't been able to pass safetynet. Even dabbled with magisk hide prop config. Wasn't able to achieve anything.

Also, no GSI provides stable experience for long term as the stock with root. I am now running stock on my M31s as I need a working phone for use.

Ok, do we have any bugs with corvus os?
Yeah, you might encounter some unstability. But overall experience is really good. The phone is responsive most of the time. You could try if you want to see what it is. I haven't gone back to Corvus, ever since Android 12 update came, so maybe the new firmware might have added some fixes.

Yeah, I'm fascinated by the responsiveness of the corvus os. And this new android stock update is eating up more RAM. And I feel one UI 4.1 is not good as 3.1.
I'm thinking of weather to switch to gsi or not.
For long usability, what do you think will be the better option?
Switch to GSI or reset the existing stock rom user data?
Have you root

Have you rooted your phone? If you have, give the GSI a try. If not, try following ONE UI Optimization guide on xda itself. Then, decide, whether you want it or not. I use slightly debloated ONE UI 4 rooted and with certain floating feature tweaks and build.prop tweaks as well. It has given me good mileage, but not as much as the Redmi Note 5 Pro, when I installed Superior OS A12 on it. But it will be definitely better than factory.

You could always try another GSI. https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/wiki/Generic-System-Image-(GSI)-list

Don't expect VoLTE on exynos on any GSI. Calls work OK.

If you're able to install TWRP, you should be able to run any GSI you want.
I have written a guide here but it is your responsibility to know what you are doing.
Read also that thread, there are at least two guides for A600X:
Question about lack of A6 ROMs
After spending a couple of weeks searching for LineageOS for the A6 (not A6+), I've discovered that there's very little support for this device. Why is this?

It's hard to say, try maybe flashing different kernel at first, and if it won't help ten play with different GSI's from the list:

You can try. but don't use old custom recovery, because Android 12+ can cause recovery bootloop. Try with this OrangeFox. Such GSI gives no guarantee of proper work on that A600X vendor.

As usual - in custom recovery (flash as boot image).
Working on andriod 10?
Sure, works perfectly.
