Sorry, I'm kind of new to this so excuse me if this is a dumb question.
I have a TMo TP2 with the Winmo 6.1.
If I flash my ROM with one of the custom ROMs out there, would i still be able to restore to factory settings by the normal methods (i.e. clear storage or the hard reset method)?

No, when you flash a new ROM and hard reset (aka clear storage) it still is the same custom ROM. However, there are dumped offical ROMs and dumped offical SPLs, so all you would have to do is reflash the appropriate dumped stock ROM, then the appropriate stock SPL. After that, your device would be just as you bought it, and you could send it in for repair without HTC knowing you voided the warranty.
Got it, thanks. That's kind of what i expected.
I'm thinking of flashing to a Cog version rom. My question is if I want to start clean like my phone just came out of the box, do I need to backup any files. I'd like to just flash back to factory, master clear, and do a clean install of a new rom. Is this possible or do I need certain files? I'm a noob at this so sorry if this is a stupid question or posted in the wrong place.

Not exactly sure what you mean by "out of the box" since you're flashing a custom rom, but if you flash to stock and master clear you will lose all your settings and anything on your internal storage including photos and music. So it will basically be like a new phone, except with all the greatness of cog.

If you don't want to backup anything, there is nothing you have to backup. I'm wondering why you wouldn't back up your apps though.
You don't really have to backup anything. But I'd probably just do a titanium backup just in case. You never know if you might change your mind in the future. Would be nice not to have to redownload all of your apps and settings.

I'm currently running a rooted nook color stock, and I also have another NC running froyo. I am selling the stock NC but am unsure how to go about it. If I do a factory reset, does that retain root and wipe out all my data? Is there a way to just remove my gmail so that all they have to do is use theirs when they get it? Or is there some other way of selling, retaining root but without my info on it? I guess my question is how do I sell a rooted NC?
Appreciate the help.
I'm not sure what the official consensus on this matter but I would imagine all you would need to do is de-register the device and factory reset. I doubt you would need to format /system via the 8 interrupted boot/adb method, if someone with more experience on this could inform US that would be killer!

Thanks for the reply. I'm still unsure about this. If anyone else would pipe in I'd be eternally grateful. Just want to make sure my personal info is gone, and that the NC will still be rooted if I erase and deregister
i would just wipe the emmc and flash the stock rom with a CWM sd card
As grasstrout said (great name btw), just wipe the system and flash the stock rom. This will make the device as if you'd never even turned it on.

You can flash one of the one click odin without BOOTLOader from this thread ...........
boot into recovery...wipe data/factory reset
that will remove all user data, all accounts on the phone, all user apps, just like you fresh flashed the rom....

I have a T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 SM-N910T. Ive rooted and installed some mods and before I go further I'd really like to start from a completely clean slate just to rule out any conflicts. That said, what wipe options in TWRP do I want to use, or is reflashing the stock firmware good enough? I downloaded and reflashed the stock firmware from sammobile and it went well, but I noticed that I still have all my applications installed and everything looks the same. So, what did reflashing actually do? Did it overwrite my system files? I know I had to re-root after the flash.
Anyways, the whole point is that I'm trying to get jimmydene's unlocked wifi tether mod to work and it's still counting against my tether cap. He said it's best to start from a "clean install" and I'm not really sure what this means. Plus, I may need a stock "deodexed" ROM and I'm also not clear as to what this means even after attempting to do some research.
If someone could guide me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it. First and foremost I'd like to restore my phone to complete stock like it just came out of the box, just to make sure I don't have any weird files laying around somewhere from the mods I've tried. And secondly, I'd really like to get unlocked wifi tethering to work. Thanks in advance for any help offered.
