Hello All, I accidentally did a factory reset (long story) on my Samsung S20 FE 5G phone. Its the version that has no OEM Unlock. I see some people offer to unlock Bootloader for a "donation" . Do you think it would allow me to recover some of my pictures/texts. Would this allow me to root phone. Any Help would be appreciated. Thanks
My Model is SM-G781U1/DS
SOFTWARE NUMBER G781U1UES6EVA4
KNOX 3.8
ONE UI version 4.0
Probably not especially if it has forced encryption (Android 11 and up). The encryption key was lost with the reset as soon as it booted.
You probably just cause more trouble and get no satisfaction... sorry.

to my knowledge getting OEM unlock isn't possible anymore via paid methods.
if it was possible you still wouldn't of stood any chance of recovering any info as unlocking and rooting require additional wipes.

I've been away from Samsung a little while, the S21 Ultra has tempted me back.
Can't see myself not tripping them Knox for long, but does unlocking the bootloader alone cause this to trip? Thought id unlock this day one so I don't have to reset if/when the flashing starts. I will be getting an unlocked international Exynos variant.
From memory, factory images through Odin wont trip Knox?
Thanks!!

Why are you getting the Exynos version if I may ask, Lots of people rather the Snapdragon.

Largely it is way easier to unlock bootloaders on Global variants so the Exynos while not better per say it won't hold you back much and will give a better unlocking process as in the U.S. at least many Samsung devices get locked down.

Easy..... No need to pay to unlock bootloader and lots more development of Roms.
For US Snapdragon devices check this out.

Hi guys, it's since some years that I don't have a galaxy s (last was s7). Since S21 ultra seems very interesting I'm thinking about to buy it, but how is the situation for what concern bootload unlock and root? It's easy to unlock and apply magisk without drawbacks?

I'm not too knowledgeable with this kind of stuff, but if you look at how Galaxy S8/S8+ root went, there was a bounty thread with a lot of money and in the end, no one was able to unlock the bootloader on the Snapdragon phones. It was way too hard, so everyone had to give up. They did figure out how to root the phone, but you had to use an old development version of the OS, battery was locked to 80%, and you couldn't install Magisk.

Answering your original question, unlocking the bootloader (either selecting OEM Unlock in Dev. Settings, and/or long pressing Vol+ on the DL screen, does *NOT* trip KNOX.
KNOX is tripped when you flash a customized boot.img file, not before

Yeh thanks bud, as I thought.
When you root and install custom kernel. It will trip knox. You can go for Samsung galaxy s21 ultra other country variant. USA version and Asian version (may be unlocked bootloader) are different. You can try custom recovery.

I don't know if I could answer your question, but have you read this both comments:
OEM vs Bootloader lock.
The guide to unlocking the bootloader on the newer Samsung tablets seems to cause confunsion about what the OEM Enable switch does. First of all, the OEM switch has no direct bearing on the Bootloader lock. That switch has been around for quite...

anyway, if you're able to get it running, be aware to *NOT* update the Tab to the lastest stock rom (5BUC4)
cause your are then unable to flash stock rom lower the 5 what is sometimes needed to flash custom rom's based on 4.

The previous (and current) owner of the device, is the Online News co. The subscriber that was using the device was merely "renting" it. I doubt seriously if you can find a way to bypass their lock without their permission. It probably has a proprietary bootloader, just like a phone that is locked by the carrier.
is there any way to flash a custom ROM that will reset / remove the lock?

No. In order to flash anything, you have to enable Developer Mode. And if you can't get past the lock, you can't enable it.

I would try to get in contact with company of the News Subscription and/or the lastest owner of the device.
if the company is able to lock the device, they're able to unlock it.
maybe another way (maybe !):
I would try to flash @Magendanz TWRP recovery and then format the partition.
I'm no expert, but I doubt that there is an additionally lock on top of Samsung, google, ..., what-so-ever .
I guess the lock is in software somewhere, but you gave to few info's of your device, e.g. what you're able to do and what not.
Why I'm thinking TWRP is installable (if the requirements for this are fullfilled !):
I mistakenly flashed the lastest FW with binary version 5.
All my attempts to flash a custom rom where denied cause a downgrade of the bootloaders binary from 5 to 4 was involved.
But I was able to flash the above TWRP and could format partitions and more.
Obviously the bootloader wasn't touched doing so...
and with TWRP installed I was able to flash CaOS.
Obviously it doesn't care what stock binary version was installed.
Have you already read all the stuff regarding "unlock" and such ???
are you able to get Developer Mode ???
I just got my phone, the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G SM-998U How do I Unlock the bootloader, root & install Msgisk, and customize my kernel? I have the Snapdragon version if that helps any.

There is a search function. Make sure you understand what tripping Knox does as you cannot undo it. And remember Magisk Hide has been discontinued by the dev so most apps will be able to detect the phone is rooted again.
Why didn't you research this before you aquired your device? It's not likely your phone is eligible as unlocking the BL requires you haven't updated it. Additionally you'll trip knox and lose a number of features, to include ongoing updates. If you wanted a device you could root and desired a Snapdragon variant those are available without paying for that service. So based on all the features you'll forfeit what advantages outweigh this? Those should be substantial to justify all the down sides you'll incur.
Thank you for your reply. What phone would you suggest is best for customizing and closing roms?l

OnePlus seems to be the concensus choice.

If you want an S21 the Global Exynos variant has an Unlocked BL plus the best selection for Custom ROM's. The SM-G9980 Snapdragon variant has an Unlocked BL as well. If you chose the S21 all the issues I mentioned are still in play, the only difference is you don't have to pay to unlock it.
Hello all,
I have a newbie question - please be patient and point me in the right direction. (And yes I did use Google first).
The question is about rooting the (Canadian) S20 FE 5G.
I understand there are different ways to root - and all require unlocking.
For unlocking there are two sets of instructions
- one instruction says I go into developer settings, select unlock and all is good
- the other instructions advise that one has to pay to have this unlocked (to some guy on Telegram) and the price is pretty expensive.
So which one is it?
I am considering the S20 FE and rooting would be one of the first things -so I would like to know if that comes at an extra cost or not.
Thank you for any pointers!
if you have a Canadian FE and it's firmware is earlier than March (as I understand things) you can ONLY pay via the man on telegram to get it unlocked. if your firmware is after March even that might not work for you.
all Qualcomm phones sold in the US and Canada can't be unlocked via simply toggling OEM unlocking in developer options.
As 3mel said "... all Qualcomm phones sold in the US and Canada can't be unlocked via simply toggling OEM unlocking in developer options"
too many folks just don't get that !!!
As far as paying > some person online- True But ... at this time, there are a few that say they do the S20 FE 5G cheap too. Either via Email or Their App.
All I Do Know, is IF you do this, You will not get any OEM updates, (Seeing how they (samsung) that the S20 FE 5G will see 3 major updates at least, came with 10, we are on 11, and so 12 is coming)
Yes, I see you may not wat to have read that, but, with the Carrier unlocked, and Root, am sure in a short time, we can see many different roms for these Newer Phones...
if you remove root and any custom recovery (usually by just flashing stock over everything) you will start receive OTA updates again.
that's even if the bootloader is still unlocked!!
I doubted this at first but it worked for me. plus updating and reapplying root isn't that hard once you've got a decent idea about what each step is doing and why it needs to be done.
I'm wondering if anyone knows if its possible to flash the firmware for a regular S20 5G (SM-G981) to an S20 FE 5G. My phone is from Verizon (SM-G781V) if that matters. They both have the same processor I believe (Snapdragon 865). Only difference is amount of RAM I think. I would think the regular S20 would have more features than the FE version and would like to enjoy them. Thanks in advance.
U can add G981 features to your G781V without flashing by edit kernel
How do I go about editing the kernel without being able to root or even unlock the bootloader? There is no option to allow for unlocking the bootloader in developer options that I see. Unless there's a trick I don't know about.
I also assume Magisk is out of the question too? I know some phones you can download the firmware and the Magisk app will patch the boot image from the AP file but bootloader still has to be unlocked for that too correct?
And thank you for saving a potential bricked phone before I went ahead and did something stupid.

Bump
Very much wanting to know the answer to this as well.
no is the answer, Odin shouldn't let you flash another phones firmware. your FE isn't even compatible with software from other FE versions never mind the S20.
