smasithick here! - Introductions

I was the Editor in Chief of Lovable Lumia, a fan site for Windows Phone. We had more than 20 lakh, unique visitors, from all over the world. We provided exclusive news that attracted so many fans. Many articles got featured on famous sites like Windows Central and MSPowerUser ({Mod edit}). With the demise of Lumia devices, the site was not managed and sadly hosting got expired and Godaddy deleted the entire site. But, my social media handles exist as proof of the existence of Lovable Lumia. ({Mod edit})
Also, developed award-winning Windows Phone apps and won so many flagship devices from Microsoft and Nokia like Lumia 1020, Lumia 1520, Lumia 950 XL, etc. Chennai Auto app was featured in Windows Central. ({Mod edit})
A few years back, I made a switch to Android flagship. Have a habit of knowing everything coming up in the technology world. I have a huge interest in Photography and Technology.
I had a chance to watch the Reno launch event on YouTube live. I was totally impressed with the top-notch specifications. Initially, I was planning to get another brand flagship and changed my decision after watching this keynote. Ordered a higher variant of OPPO Reno 10x Zoom on the very first day, without watching any actual reviews. When the device was delivered, I was completely satisfied and started exploring the Camera and Software. I made the right decision. I don't like stock Android with fewer features. ColorOS 6 came inbuilt with Oppo Reno 10x Zoom. It was very good.
I joined the ColorOS community (now OPPO Community) out of interest to contribute more for the users. One fine day, ColorOS SuperFan recruitment began. I've opted for that and I was selected too. And, started being an active member of the ColorOS Community. I became Pre-Creators Community Member.
ColorOS Pioneer recruitment began on some other day. With huge excitement, I've participated and won a free trip to the ColorOS 7 Launch Event. I can't even believe that it happened. As I said earlier, I have a habit of watching launch events. Now, I was invited to a Global Launch Event. Can you believe it? I asked myself. Yes! I won a trip to ColorOS 7 Launch Event and that made all the difference. Contributed to ColorOS 7 with valuable feedback and articles.

Within months of joining the ColorOS Community, I was promoted as Creators Team Member.
I have written 90+ threads that gained me 225+ fans in ColorOS Community. My articles crossed 200000+ views. That was a great achievement in a smaller span of time.
Used to participate in ColorOS Contests and won many contests. Last year, I was awarded as the "Emerging Creator of ColorOS Community".
As a token of appreciation, ColorOS sent me an Honorary Certificate for my journey in Creators Planet.
Never seen such an awesome and inspiring Community. For sure, you'll grow with the community if you're active.
Published unboxing videos of OPPO F17 Pro ({Mod edit}) in YouTube.
My passion is all about exploring new and future things in Technology. Being a phone addict, I used to dig deep into new technologies. That said I've covered multiple things that are introduced like new chipsets, features, apps, device launches, software updates, reviews, etc in my articles. And that received tremendous response.
I'm here in XDA Forum to share my experiences!

There are no usenet groups for android/G1.

Moderators, please feel free to move this to another forum if it doesn't fit here.
There are currently no Usenet groups for Android software or supported trans-coded video files. There are advantages to hosting these files on Usenet, rather than on this, or other websites. Please PM me if you would like to hear my opinion. I will not discuss this openly.
I would like to propose one be created, but actual new group additions to Usenet are a pain in the rear and require a community backing.
Is anyone else here familiar with the process?
I have never added a group myself, but I have worked for a Usenet provider and know that it is not a simple process. It would require a proposal in the alt.control newsgroup, as well as a discussion and justification of the group between supporters and the ISC (www.isc.org). For this, we need people to speak up and support our group in the alt.control newsgroup.
Notice how I say OUR group. I propose the group be un-moderated, because suggesting a moderated group requires a lot more organization, time, and discussion before the ISC will consider the addition.
Again, if anyone has actually undergone the addition of a new group, please speak up. If no one has, but people are interested, I will try to work with Usenet assistance groups on getting a group added.
Thoughts?
I'd be surprised if a quarter of this forum knows what a newsgroup is.

Ahh, well if there is not a community interest, I won't pursue it. In my opinion, the brightest people use this site, so I'm only posting here.
I guess then, I am one of the 25%. I gave up on usenet years ago when the content to spam ratio got too bad.
I still grin when I think of alt.barney.die.die.die
I guess it all depends on what exactly the OP wants out of a newsgroup. These days most interest groups / communities on the internet form around http-based services like forums and bulletin boards. There are also hybrid http/email mailing list type things. Generally the whole of the Android community is well served by these tools already. Between the various fansites (phandroid, androidguys, etc), the Google android-discuss groups, xda-dev, and #[email protected], I think there are plenty of points on the internet as-is for all comers alike.
Of course, then theres the modern-day usage of usenet, which is not so much discussion-centric rather than a no-holds-barred haven for digital piracy and pretty much every kind of porn under the sky.

New dedicated WP7 forum. Help getting started.

Hey guys,
I have been an observer on this forum since last 3 years. It has helped me a lot to get me through various issues of multiple phones I've used. And I sincerely thank the entire community for the same.
I own a HTC HD7 now. A WP7. Though there's not much into it right now as everyone awaits the Mango update, it's still getting popular day by day.
We do have a Windows Phone 7 sub-forum here on XDA, but it's mainly developer oriented. Hence, I feel there's a need to make a more consumer oriented forum for the same and that's just what I did.
This is a new forum I launched, exclusively for WP7 users.
I was hoping if any Windows Phone users here will be interested in getting me started with the forums and basic contents to not make it look so empty and hence, attract new visitors.
Do take a note that this is a non-commercial forum and I made this solely for help & support purposes.
And there is no intention to drive people away from this forum. XDA will always be the same huge XDA
So, you may straight away go there and post few helpful things for our new WP7 users. Or get in touch with me via PM or email if you have any suggestions.
Hoping to get positive feedbacks.
Regards,
Jugal
Sorry, no recruiting. Taken from Rule #11:
Encouraging members to participate in forum activities on other phone related sites is prohibited.

Call for Jailbreak/Rooting Volunteers for Event

Hey all,
I've been an XDA member for a little while now and love the work that comes out of here. This year I'm working with Mozilla and the Open Video Alliance to put on the 3rd annual Open Video Conference.
In addition to a lot of great open web and open source projects this year we are offering a Jailbreak Station. It will be a place where attendees can bring their iOS device, have it jailbroken and learn the benefits and risks of having a jailbroken device.
We're looking for volunteers who are hack savy and experienced to volunteer to operate this jailbreaking station.
Benefits of Volunteering:
1. Free OVC T-Shirt
2. Free food!
3. Complimentary registration
4. A chance to network (lots of great industry folks at this event)
5. Be a part of the team and help spread the word on open source, hacking and being a more informed consumer
Supporters of this year include New York Law School, Zencoder, Mozilla and we're pleased to announce that Google has recently joined as a supporter. Many, many more commercial and non-commercial companies/orgs will be represented here too.
We need you! If you're interested please PM me Mod edit: removed email
This does not belong here. Try i-phone developers.

[Website] Growing Fast, Needs Staff

Hi Everyone,
I recently created a website with a couple of XDA members, and were growing in views fairly fast. However we literally cannot keep up with the content we need to publish in order to be competitive.
So were looking for new staff.
We need:
Writers, if your good at English and can write fluently and professionally why not get into Article writing and gain some popularity across the internet.
Site Designer: I can design a website, but I would like someone with a little more knowledge than me to converse with, also if they want to the Site Designer can also write articles (if they desire)
Social Media Promoters: If your up for getting into a new team and are a Social Guru, get involved and help us grow our social following.
Payments can be discussed depending on work rate.
Sorry, but there's a recruitment section and this isn't it

Just introducing myself (With a boom)

Hello Folks,
My names Jono and I'm just another nerd/phone enthusiast. I've worked in the telecommunications industry for over 5 years (mainly sales and technical support), so I should be able to help anyone with here any technical issues or offer general info on most smartphones.
I've also spent the last two years developing my own smartphone website (fonefox dot com) . We provide smart phone specifications, comparisons and have our own scoring system for phones. Its still a work in progress, so feel free to give some feedback if you feel it deserves any.
Looking forward to to being apart of this community
Can you please make your intro's into the official intro thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961655
Thanks!
