Hello there,
As a newcomer, I found out these foruns filled up with great information and guys willing to help, so came here to ask for some help ....I am both excited and dissapointed with my brand new Milestone. Bought the handset about 5 days ago, which came with Android 2.0. Then updated it straight away to version 2.1 via "Motorola Software Update". So far so good ...here´s the problem I am facing :
While connected to wi-fi or 3g(issue is easier to notice due to 3G icon at the task bar, which points out in those small arrows data that is being sent/received) phone stops to receive data out of the blue. All connectios are cut off(it also happens when the handset is locked up). Some basic trouble shooting i did:
- tested all pcs connected to the same wi-fi network. No issues detected for these
- reset wi-fi router configs. Didn´t work
- tried other wi-fi router. Presented same issue
- swapped another carrier chip to test 3g connection. Presented the same issue
- tested my GSM chip on ther phone. Worked properly
- Reset phone to default settings. This time the connection took longer to drop, like 30 minutes, instead of the usual 10 minutes. After the first drop, it´s started behaving the same way again.
It seems pretty much that there an issue going on here (obvious...hehehe). I am considering the following:
- Might be a software issue. So, right now i am downgrading it back to 2.0 version, check if it works properly and then move to 2.1 hopping to get the issue fixed.
- Use retailer warranty and claim for a new phone =/
Could you guys help me out ??
Thanks in advance and Best Regards !!!
Guys, after downgrading version to 2.0, phone stills presenting the same issue. I think it´s turning into hardware issue =/....does anyone have a clue about it?
Thanks and Best Regards!!!
Hello there,
I'm just wondering what the antenna port (or at least it looks like one) is on the back of the SGS and more specifically what it's connected to, I don't particularly want to start hooking up random length wires until I know what length would be optimal (requires knowing what it's being used for and the bands for that use) and whether there's any particular practice that'd kill something important.

If this is linked to any radio system/s apart from bluetooth it could be darned handy!
Apologies if this has been answered somewhere else, searching for "antenna port" just gave complaints about the GPS system or requests for ports of things.
Many thanks!
gsm antenna for sure.
for external antenna for better reception.
no link with gps or bluetooth...

Have you tested it?
It's apparently a MCX connector..

But I'm not sure if anyone ever managed to confirm for sure..
So, from what I can gather from those threads you linked (thanks btw) it's not any sort of uniform port as the sizes don't quite match anything in use, they are however probably right in that this should be a GSM antenna port. I've got another phone on hand here with another antenna port and the two are not the same size.
Well, I'm always up for a bit of hackery so I think I'll carefully shove a wire in and use sticky tape or something else that's not hard to remove to keep it in, see what improves.
addition from about an hour later: Managed to pry open my SGS and according to the few teardowns I can find all of the antennas should be in the plastic that makes up the bit you see below the back cover, removed that and tried the phone, still works and picks up wifi, GSM and GPS signals fine so idk what's going on with respect to other antennas, all I can do is jam a wire in that connector and hope for the best.
oops !
Hey well i tried to jam a wire in it didn't do anything but after a few minutes i realized that now i have no signal reception the only way to get some signal is if i am close to an cellular antenna .I am not sure if it has to do with the wire i jammed or that it's just a coincidence because i am not even sure that it really when in the small hole and touched anything ...
So does any one have any idea what to do now ?
sent the phone to get fixed and got it back working !!! but i still wonder what it was....
Hi all
I bought a note 1 from friend last week and I ve got problem with it. He was replacing micro usb part because the micro usb was not working so he get it fixed. Phone shop charge him around 50 pounds dont know why, and from that time there is a problem with the phone.
Wifi is only working when you are in the same room where the router is and when you go somewhere else in the house the wifi is discconected from network. I bought new antenna cable because I thought it will help but it didnt. So I dont know now how to fix it, and also the signal is very poor after replace that part.
Can anyone help me please ?
Thanks
Search for "usb port wifi" and you'll find a lot of threads related to this, like:

As far as I remember only the use of original parts from Samsung might solve this.
Okay, Thanks. I contact samsung service center and I am just waiting for them to call me back to give me a quote how much it will cost to fix the problem with signal so in other words replacing usb board for the original one.
But Does anyone had similar problems as me with wifi. I was checking wifi at my girlfriend house and it seems to work perfet I had wifi signal everywhere but when I am at my house the wifi signal is poor and its only work few metres from the router and also sometimes is working slow, but when I go somewhere in the house the wifi is disconnecting with the network.
I heard that Kernel is responsible for the wifi I changed kernel to Philz one and its same problem. I replace the antenna cable but that doesnt help me.
Any ideas what could I do about it ?
Thanks
Hi all,
I have a second hand GT-n7000 in my possession.
For some reason, I am not able to detect any WiFi networks nor able to call anyone. This phone has never been rooted and is using the original rom and recovery.
If anyone has any suggestions or tips that might help me find out why the Galaxy Note is not detecting any WiFi networks, please let me know!
**UPDATE: It turns out that the rear cover is missing the top left antenna.
This is shown in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6CJy71_9Ok#t=191 at 3 min 11 sec.
So I'm guessing the previous owner had switched all the phone housing to make it look new.
I've tried using some random metals I've found around home to emulate the antennas, but they failed to make a difference.
If someone could remove the rear cover (which contains the antenna) and see if their phone (without the rear cover) detects any WiFi networks that would help me lots.
I really don't want to waste more money buying a phone housing that may not fix the problem.
Cheers
Hello,
After swapping broken LCD screen, with new front frame also attached, Wifi does not work unless right next to the router. I do not have the sim tray at the moment so I don't know if cellular part works.
So my question is, does anyone know what part inside is the WIFI antenna? I did have some difficulty putting the coaxial cable back in place, it seems to stick but I'm wondering if I could have broken a connector there. If coaxial is for WiFi it would make sense, I have taken the phone to pieces and back multiple times now without any change.
Hopefully someone who know the insides can help, didn't find much help from google.

Well if you changed the screen from the service centre they'll probably fix it. But if you didn't you might need to figure it out.
