Hey everyone !
This is my life :
I received my new Xiaomi Mi 8 on wednesday, I bought it on Gearbest.
The bootloader was unlocked, so I just looked for the MIUI 10 release on Xiaomi's website.
When I flashed it on my device with MiFlash, I accidentally re-locked my bootloader because the choice is checked by default. No big deal, at that point.
Then, I restarted my phone, but the OS won't start, the recovery showed up with an arror : "this MIUI version can't be installed on this device".
Why ? I didn't knew at first, but I guess my smartphone had MIUI's chinese version, not global.
So I just have to flash the chinese MIUI 10 version, isn't it ? No ! I have to unlock first.
So I looked at the bootloader unlock instructions : download the app, enter your ID, plug the phone, click on unlock...
No problem until this error shows up at 99% : "current account is not bound to this device".
So what do I have to do ? Link my phone to my Xiaomi account. How ? By going on the phone's settings. **** ! My phone is bricked, I can't do that.
Then, after hours of research, I found only two solutions : 1. open the phone, 2. get an EDL account
But there was no way I open the phone and risk physically destroying it so I looked for all ways to get a Xiaomi EDL authorized account.
The russian topic is closed, I tried another one, no answer for now. I contacted Xiaomi by 3 different e-mail addresses, the only answer is : contact Gearbest.
But I waited one month for this phone, I don't want to wait one more month, or two !
Then I was willing to pay S-Unlock to give me one, but when I visited their website and talked to them, they don't look like serious.
You, dear user, is the only one that can save my life today, by lending me your EDL authorized Xiaomi account, in order to unlock my bootloader again. Just once. Please, help me.
I will be very grateful
Thank you !
Well, between the Russian words that the author didn't even translated, I saw "TeamViewer", so, no.

He needs teamviewer to help you authenticate.... But okay lol, then i guess u have to go with s-unlock, although it is not 100% successful (saw a post around here where a dude had a lot of problems). Honestly, just an advice, that dude is reliable and beggers cant be choosers.... ATB my friend!

When you get desperate (what I think will happen soon) you can go back to the site and look for the ENG button. Enjoy your brick until then. Good luck whatever you do.
I had the same problem. My Choice was s-unlock and that guy did a good job and unbricked my Mi8. But it will cost you $36,00 and he also needs access to your computer via Teamviewer. After 15 min i had a usefull Smartphone back. Be aware - the phone ist NOT unlocked then. You have to unlock it again with Xiaomi unlock-tool.

Even if there were a member here that can do it, it would most likely be using something such as TeamViewer. Just like you don't want them accessing your computer, they wouldn't entrust you with their account password just for the sake of fixing your device. With TeamViewer, you can generally see what the person is doing on your computer. If you have any concerns, use a separate user on your computer.

If I have your username and your password, I can access your account but I can't steal it, steal your personal data or prevent you from changing your cretentials and tracking me.
Why ? Simple : I don't have your e-mail address or your phone number.

Creating a new user doesn't prevent infecting the whole computer, even without elevated privilege.
Also, a sandbox is useless with remote control so the only way was virtual machine, I tried but it seems that even if the OS was detecting the phone in both ADB and fastboot mode, communication wasn't working.
However, I don't understand why I can't just buy an account.
I contacted S-Unlock but they don't want to do that either.

I don't think these people who are sort of "trusted" in their offered service are in it to push malware into your computer. Besides, thats why antivirus software exists. As for VMs, you are right, most never work, specifically due to driver issues.
It may be worth it to partition your hard drive and just create another installation of Windows. Most viruses aren't going to spread over to your other partition. You can install Windows 10 using the Media Creation Tool, no activation needed and it is not "piracy".
Also, you don't understand how the authorization works. Anyhow, simple question, how long have you had your Mi account for, and also, how many devices have you used with your account?
how do you expect these people to unbrick your device? Be happy it is possible. If you are really worried about them installing a virus which they wouldnt because it would cost their business duel boot into a different version of windows (no VM)

I totally agree with you. I faced the same issue 2 months ago. They send me a Chinese version, advertised as "global", also it was my first ever xiaomi, so my first flashing bricked my phone cause option to relock bootloader was ticked. I searched for days all over the internet hopping to find a solution but... So I returned the phone, but it took me almost 2 months cause they tried all kinds of tricks and they were out of Xiaomis. I think that VM works fine. I am on manjaro linux and I am running windows 10. I can connect my phone and flash it. After all, as you mentioned it, I don't think that someone offering this kind of service will risk his reputation to see what I have in my PC.
How do I know if my account is EDL or not?
My Xiaomi account was given approval to unlock my Redmi Note 3 pro some years ago. But I dont know if that would count for the Mi 8 too or if I have to ask for new approval?

Approval is for a very limited time. I'm sure it is no longer valid. Most issues people have can be resolved by contacting Xiaomi support, and assuming you don't have a history of abusing the authorization and you're not a new account (e.g. having to ask because you bricked more than one phone or having a Mi Account that was recently opened). Those set off red flags immediately.
Can someone give me the link to the website that can help me unlock it.
Thread closed, paid remote unlock services and those discussions take no place here

So I'm in contact with the person other users recommended (+7 967 777-15-98) on whatsapp. My phone doesn't appear to be bricked, the bootloader was just accidentally relocked and needs to be unlocked. To allow the person on whatsapp to unlock the bootloader- does the back cover need to be removed? And does anyone know if there's perhaps another service I could use? S-unlock doesn't seem to have the service anymore, and communication is a little difficult to handle with this person (e.g. I'm not clear on when exactly he's going to be helping me and thus when I have to be at home).
EDIT: I found alternate sellers providing similar services.
Hello.
I come to ask you for help and advice.
I just bought a used mi 9. The phone is still under warranty.
I can not use it because the person who sold it to me refuses to give me his xiaomi account, and no longer answers the phone.
I'm very bored.
The phone is on, usable, but the associated xiaomi account is not mine and I have no way of recovering the password.
I have the sales papers, imei numbers, bill paper.
I have contacted xiaomi france several times, they do not wish to help me.
So I can't fully use my phone.
I read that you shouldn't flash the phone in this case.
What can I do ?
Any help will be welcome.

it depends, reply to this questions:
the lockscreen have some type of password/fingerprint?
have the phone under accounts section (not Xiaomi account) some google account added (from the previous owner i guess)?
if both of this answers are no, then you can do a full wipe to the phone, and the xiaomi account will be cleaned off since the phone dont ask for that when first boot after a wipe, it only ask for google who previous use the phone and if you have no google account added to the phone then you can do a full wipe.
Thank you for answering.
My phone has been reset, the problem is resolved.
Thanks for the help!
Some months ago, I purchased a Xiaomi Redmi 8 from a local store, here, in Greece.
The device was originally given to my brother who has been using it for about a month or so. He knows nothing about tech in general and I was not with him when he set up his phone, so he created a new gmail and mi account on his own.
A few days ago, he was given another device that he is more familiar with, so he decided to switch to it and give the Redmi 8 to my other brother.
Before handing it to him, he told me to create a backup of his photos and perform a hard reset on it in order to wipe everything in the device. I did so, but when rebooting the device after the hard reset, I came across a message telling me that the device is locked and that I need to log in using my old mi account in order to unlock it.
Well, you may have already understood what the problem is. He doesn't know the password to neither his mi nor his gmail account and he didn't even add his phone number as a password reset backup so there is no way for me to unlock it using that way.
Manual verification doesn't work either, cause the accounts are considered to be new, as there are no previous passwords, emails or any kind of history associated to them.
I searched about it and found out that I had to contact xiaomi global in order to sort this issue out so that's exactly what I did (I tried contacting Xiaomi Greece first but they told me that they couldn't help and that I had to send an email to Xiaomi Global).
I sent an email to Xiaomi describing my issue in detail. In the email I also included everything that proved that I am the original owner of the device, because I understand that without proof they wouldn't be able to do anything.
So I included:
- A photo of the locked device with me holding it
- A photo of the device's box with me holding it
- A photo of the IMEI numbers written on the box and on a sticker that came with the device, which I also included as text (in written form) in the email's body
- A photo of the official receipt that I received from the store upon purchase
- The email that my brother used for the mi account he created (he managed to remember the email but not the password)
After four days of communication, switching to different case managers and with me describing my problem again and again, their final answer was that they simply can't do anything about it, because of privacy concerns.
Keep in mind that I don't want to recover my brother's old mi account, I don't care about it, he doesn't care either. What I'm asking for is to have my legally purchased device unlocked, by either completely removing the mi account that is associated with it or switching it with a mi account that he actually knows the password for.
Since then, I've contacted Xiaomi Global again and again, multiple times, and I always receive the same reply, that due to privacy issues they don't accept any unlock requests. For my own legally purchased device ffs!
I read about similar cases online, that got sorted out without even providing a receipt of the purchase and my case is somehow related to privacy issues and cannot be solved, so I'm left with a totally useless device.
Is there any other way to unlock it, I'm extremely frustrated with their behavior, so much that I think I won't be buying any Xiaomi devices anymore.
I believe there is a mi-tool that will allow one too bypass the activation screen and get into your device os here is a link that can help

I haven't had to try it but people in the mi community have recommended it , other than that I'm sure how else to by pass user login
Unless you remember the user name you can try to renew change the password by logging in on pc
- The email that my brother used for the mi account he created (he managed to remember the email but not the password)
go to https://account.xiaomi.com and retrieve your password by mail and if you connected it to your sim number get it out of your phone and insert it in another one to reserve verification SMS
Hi. I have the same issue. Bypass don't work. Could it be helpful to downgrade the device to older OS? Does anyone has experienced a positive bypass?

If it isn't your account go to
Xiaomi Cloud
Manage your data and devices anytime, anywhere

And follow the steps, for me it worked perfectly
I have the same Problem, i purchased a Xiaomi Redmi 8 Pro (ther big one with 128GB Storage) second Hand. The Seller has removed his Google Account but not his Xiaumi Account. So he also has left his Data on the Telephone because he was very busy and asked me to remove it from the Phone.
So it's my first Xioami Device with having a Xiaomi Account and i never had anything to do with such Accounts, only the Google Account that you need on most of all Phones. So i performed a Factory Reset on the Phone and the Phone is now locked by the Xiaomi Account and unuseable. I have everything from the Seller, The Original Box, the original Bill (was originallly purchased in Czechslovakia i think) and the Papers came with the Phone.
Have someone an Idea what i can do? I live in Vienna/Austria and would be very thankful for any form of help to bring the Phone back to Life.
I contacted the Xiaomi Support, i tried some Guides in Youtube Videos with won't work with my Phone or are Fake, tried some Account Unlock Tools.... I have no Idea anymore, maybe someone here can help me out please?

i bought it as a used phone and fastboot means bootloader is locked. is there a way to unlock it via fastboot mode?
To check if bootloader is unlocked, while booting up but before the boot animation, there should be an unlocked lock.
If you can't find that lock then you should go visit a support center or so
If it is unlocked tell me here and I'll help
Unforgently i think it isn't unlocked because i cannot see this unlocked lock at bootimg up. Any ideas?

It will lock bootloader again.
If you have unlocked bootloader and want to backup it, just backup the SECCFG partition.
And then, after the "firmware upgrade" just restore the SECCFG partition.

The Bootloader is already seems to be locked, so its no Problem if the SP Flash Tool will lock it again. But its a good Hint, Thank you anyway.
I just want to have a working Device for Daily use because i sold my other Phone and buyed this one as a used one because a friend of mine use the same Model and is very pleased with it. It has some useful functions huawei doesn't provide.
For now i have to use the reserve Phone from a friend of mine, a LG G3 D855 with 1GB of RAM and Android 5. So i will be very happy if my Xiaomi Redmi 8 Pro working like it should work.
But for now i'm warned and can everybody strongly recommend to look that the seller of an mobile phone has removed ALL of his accounts from the phone befire you buy it.

Unhappy, neither Xiaomi or Google asks if you want to protect your device asking for password if anybody try to wipe data.
You are right, we need to confirm if everything is clear before to buy.

Hi why is everybody hard resetting their phones the old way, in Xiaomi devices the proper way is to do it thru the settings menu or simply logout the mi account of the device (but offcourse doing it this way will ask for a pasword).
In regards to your quetions you may have to options:
1. Ask the seller to remove the phone from his mi account in https://i.mi.com/
2. Jtag the phone or going for the prior mentioned software https://www.androidjungles.com/download-mi-account-unlock-tool/
Actually if you go into recovery (stock one), it has the option to contact support thru mipcsuite. Once I had the good " the system has been destroyed" screen and they fixed it for me w/o even contacting each other
hello the community,
have recently purchased a Mi mix from a friend,(for my girlfriends son for passing his GCSE's), who purchased it from facebook marketplace when we rebooted the device to clean it for the young lad we found that the original sellers account was keeping the device locked,so we tried contacting the chap but to no avail he seems to not want to reply to any messages sent to him, either via facebook messenger or email,so am looking for help on bypassing the original account so i can give this phone to this hard working lad who did so well on his exams through these troubling times of lockdown and covid-19,now for anybody asking THIS IS NOT A STOLEN DEVICE it was purchased in good faith but this is an issue i cannot seem to solve,i have tried the Mi unlock progam on my PC with no luck,Mi PC suite with no luck, numerous videos on youtube with no luck if anybody could help that would be much appreciated
thanks
As I understand it the device is locked to the previous owners Mi account, which lock is actually located on a Xiaomi server somewhere, not in the device itself.
As soon as you start up the device, running any version of MIUI, and give it internet access, it will check and discover it is locked.
If you have proof of purchase you could try contacting Xiaomi support and ask them to remove the lock for you.
Otherwise you really need the former owner to remove the device from his Mi account.
He can do that remotely if he has any other Xiaomi device registered to the same account.
Can I add another MI account without removing the previous accounts?
