Amazon Fire HD8 (2017) - Fire Toolbox v26.1 issues - Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am able to install FTB (fire toolbox v27.0) with a few optional features (google assistant/services, manage amazon apps, keyboard and Input, lockscreen management and custom launcher). When I run Chrome/Google (click any link/URL) I get a splash screen "The requested action is not permitted. Check Parental Control settings and try again." I get this same error/popup in the Fire HD8s' Settings at certain menu selections.
During setup of FTB v27.0 I did not connect to my wifi network as per instructions when prompted. Nor did I register the device with my Amazon account. "The requested action is not permitted. Check Parental Control settings and try again" persists. What am I doing wrong; need to do?

Hey guys
I just published my first serious app on the android market and would like to give some of you the opportunity to test it for free. edit: sorry, i cant give away any more test licenses. but i released a trial app, so everyone can now test it for free
The app is called Delayed Lock and simply delays the activation of the secure lockscreen for a user definied amount of time or while connected to WiFi/Bluetooth. You can choose to start the activation timer whether on the last successful unlock or on display off time and immediately reenable the lockscreen through a notification in the status bar or a widget.
Main Features:
Delayes the requirement to enter pattern/PIN/password again after succesfully unlocked once
No lockscreen while connected to certain WiFi network or Bluetooth devices
Time delay since "Screen off" or since "Last unlock"
Quickly re-enable the lock through the Android notification bar or a widget
Widgets & Shortcuts: Toggle Lock, Screen off, Screen off & Lock, Enable / Disable DelayedLock
Free plugins: Disable lockscreen while at certain locations or use the Tasker app to control the lockscreen
automatically wipe the device after several failed unlocks
auto disable USB-debugging on rooted devices (on 4.0 - 4.2.1, not necessary on 4.2.2+)
FAQ:
Here: http://j4velin-systems.de/faq/index.php?app=dl
General limitations:
Does not work if your Exchange policy requires a PIN! (might work if your device is rooted though)
Pattern lock & FaceUnlock require root on Android 4.0+
Does not work on all devices, see section Device incompatibility
Requires root if full device encryption is enabled
Incompatible with NoLED, No Lock & some other apps
Please use the "Uninstall" option from within the app to uninstall it
Device incompatibility:
Some HTC devices: Pattern lock might not work
Some Samung devices: Notification bar might be accessable even in locked state
Samsung Galaxy S5: User reported that after 3 days, the device does not accept the PIN/password any more. Make sure you enable the "Android Device Manager" to remotely change your password in case this happens! Also try to disable the fingerprint feature before setting up Delayed Lock
Plugins:
Location Plugin: Locks when leaving certain locations
RemoteLock Plugin: Locks the device when receiving a SMS containing a defined keyword
Tasker Plugin by Ingenium13

I can't find it on the Market...Is it only for 2.2 Android?
oh yeah i forgot to mention that it requires at least Android 2.2 at the moment.
but I'm also beta testing the same app but for older Android versions, so if you would like to try that I'll pm you the apk
Damn... Is it possible to make it work with 2.1???
The app the QR code points to is a paid app. There is no free version.
just pm me your gmail address so i can send you the apk and enable a test license. i will also release a free/trial version, but i havent thought about the restrictions yet
Thanks, but it is not because of the half buck you want for your app, it is not even about commercial apps - I have no problems with them.
But I will have problems with this forum if it (or parts of it) turns into a support forum for commercial apps. And your app qualifies as commercial, since, as things stand now, it is not available in another form.
oh I'm sorry, it didnt want to violate the board rules. i was just looking for some guys who would like to help me test my app on more acutal devices (emulator kinda sucks on lockscreen stuff) and didnt know where to find them except here ^^
i dont think i'm able to delete the thread, but if a moderator reads this...
Yes, one of the prerequisites for having a thread here is that there must be at least a free/crippled version for the members to test. Having a sorely paid or individually selected sent app is not allowed iirc.
im willing to test on my mytouch4g running 2.2.1
Really annoying how the trial version displays that screen after unlocking. But it did get me to buy the app Good price too.
yeah, that was my intention
it's the lowest possible price in the market, hope to get my registration fee back that way ^^
J4velin -
Thanks. I'm actually trying to import my Pathfinder RPG books into Alkindo and of course my screen timed out. Luckily, I'd already installed DelayedLocker and BLAM! no having to swipe the screen unlocker or type in my pin.
I'm on a TrulyEpicRebirth 1.5 with Theme 1.7 - and it works nicely.
This is better in the longer term regarding time than NoLock, as that completely removes the lock swipe (not sure if that app also works with the password/pin). Something that allows me to quickly re-require the swipe/password and auto re-lock would be nice (especially something that could fit in my GoLauncher [or other home program] dock).
well, to quickly reactivate the lockscreen you can click on the notification in the status bar or use the widget in the paid version.
a shortcut for the launcher docks is also a good idea, i will keep that in mind
Has anyone else had trouble uninstalling the free version of this program? That screen after unlocking my phone is rather annoying and every time I try to uninstall it, it fails.
just read the app description in the market, the text under 'Revoke locking permission' in the settings or the 'FAQ' in the first post here:

You have to revoke the locking permissions first. Therefore go to the android security settings and tap 'select device administrators'

i just changes some stuff in the app and it should now be compatible down to android 1.5.
therefore i need some testers with a device running an android version lower than 2.2. pm me your gmail address if you're interested
Hi there,
I've just sent you an e-mail about the 1.1 version and WidgetLocker.
Regards,
Steve
Hi, I'm excitedly trying the app as I've ben waiting for this ever since Froyo destroyed my previous solution.
Is it possible to distinguish between the pattern lock screen and the swipe-to-unlock screen. Personally I like the swipe to unlock to protect me from accidental power ons (and I have trackpad to unlock to make it even easier). However, I want to extend the time before the lock pattern comes on from 15 minutes to 1 hour.
Your app seems to elimiante both locks screens in that period.
I also personally like the swipe to unlock.
I can small problem with Cyberion Voice Dial, can't dial voice when phone is locked, can you make option to switch lock off when paired BT device is connected?

the reviews on that app aren't very good, I've watched a couple of Note 5 tips and tricks youtube videos and it seems to be baked in on some devices. I think both videos used AT&T phones, so maybe that's it?
I think it's pretty good and easyu to use. Just install the app and login into Google account. If you lose your phone, login to your Google account and type find my phone. That's all. Simple.

i've been using that app for a while now. it's no longer even a matter of it ever updating my current device anymore - it has never shown the correct device at all. you're better off going to the webpage version.

Find my Mobile's pretty cool and I used it on my international devices for years when there was no ADM. Surprisingly, AT&T didn't maim it. It's easy to use and manage across multiple devices and is both fast and accurate even on "GPS only." Here's what it can do.

I have Find My Mobile, but I don't have reactivation lock...and that sucks as it was a pain to bypass
So I guess it's a per carrier or per market thing. I'll give ADM a try.

It very well might be. A few years ago Rogers had their own location system just like findmymobile, they did take out the native location system on their phone until they decided to discontinue their service and put the option back in.

tried cerberus? pretty good stuff there also
I've had Cerberus for years. But its very easy to get around if you know what it is and what it does. I always used it in tandem with Samsung's security. Samsung has the option to render the power button useless...you cannot turn off the phone unless you remove battery or let the phone drain. Battery removal wise, can't do it with my last 2 phones (s6 and note 5), so if somebody stole my phone I could have easily locked it and used Cerberus to spy on the thief and had a few hours to find him. Now, if anybody steals my phone all he has to do is vol down + home + power until phone turns off and flash with odin, then wipe in recovery. At least with reactivation lock my phone would have been a paper weight

[GUIDE][Difficulty: Beginner] Enable 'Smart Lock' on Bluetooth LE devices

Android 5.0 Lollipop added the ability to keep your device unlocked so long as you stay connected to a trusted bluetooth device. Dubbed "Smart Lock", the feature is quite useful if you own a smart wearable that you keep on you at all times. However, Smart Lock is unavailable for devices that connect to your phone via Bluetooth Low Energy. Some manufacturers offer the ability to simulate Smart Lock through keeping their app on in the background (such as Xiaomi's Mi Band and the Mi Fit app), but others do not.
If you, for instance, own a basic Fitbit or one of the new Honor Z1 bands among others, then you'll be able to keep your phone unlocked so long as your wearable is in range of your phone by following this Tasker guide.
Prerequisites
Secure Settings plug-in
Bluetooth 4.0 LE enabled device
A Bluetooth LE Scanner app
Instructions
Ensure that Secure Settings is set as a Device Administrator by opening the app and going to the Preferences screen. This is so the plugin has the ability to enable/disable the lockscreen.
Bring your phone and your device close together. Open the BLE Scanner app you downloaded above, and press SCAN.
Write down the MAC ID of the device that shows up at the top of the list. This should be the address of the Fitbit or other wearable, in case the name doesn't properly populate.
Click + to create a new Profile and name it "Watch Near" or anything else you want.
Select the State context, then select "BT Near" under "Net."
Once you're in the BT Near setting, type in the Bluetooth Address that you wrote down earlier under "Address." Additionally, select "Low-Energy (LE) Devices" and "Unpaired Devices". Leave everything else unchecked and/or default.
Press the back key to save and exit the context setup.
Tasker will now ask you to set up a new task associated with this context. Click on "New Task" and optionally give the task a name. Before we move on, here's a picture of what the context screen should look like.
{

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now that you've got the context set-up, we're going to make a simple entry and exit task to correspond to when your phone connects/disconnects to your smart wearable.
Plugin --> Secure Settings. Under the Dev Admin Actions dropdown, select Password/Pin. Make sure that the box is set as "DISABLED" and that Device Admin Enabled is checked. Press the save icon up top to exit, then press the back key once you're back in Tasker.
Press back once more to exit the task creation. Now expand the Profile you just created by tapping on its name. Long-press on the Task that launches, the select "Add Exit Task."
Within this new task, you're going to do the opposite of what you did above. Plugin --> Secure Settings. Select Password/Pin under Dev Admin Actions again, but this time change the box to "ENABLED" and set up the password or pin code that you desire. Exit out all the way after you're done.
That's it! Your phone should now automatically disable the pin/password when your bluetooth device is in range, otherwise it will re-enabled it. You can expand the power of this task by adding some alerts for when your device and phone disconnects, the choice is up to you!

Smart Lock already works with regular bluetooth devices out of the box, so I wouldn't recommend using Tasker for that. But yes, if you put in the Bluetooth MAC ID into Tasker it will work the same way.
Does not work with my meizu pro5 and Xiaomi mi band 1s (Android 5.1.1)
Still I need to put my finger on finger scanner or putting the pin code to unlock the device
Will it break the device protection and the encryption
This is great thanks, I am using this with a cheap Bluetooth tracker keyring I got from eBay for 99p.
Edit
I need to test this a little more with the tag. The tag seems to power its self off which means it doesn't then trigger BT Near.
Where is the Secure Settings plug-in? There is an app of that name, by intangibleObject - is that what you mean?

The Secure Settings Plugin is in an app called "Tasker".
However, having setup this instructions it seems to me that Secure Settings or TAsker never triggers a lockscreen/password protection to be active. What is your default state ? OS Version ? Do you have any initial password options enabled ?

I haven't had time to try it yet - I am on Marshmallow and have a BT LE step counter to test it with, when I have a chance.
Please Do. It works but somehow Timing of tasker to Check connection is not really good
This can be accomplished using the delayed lock app in conjunction with the Tasker plugin without having to use secure settings

[SOLVED] "Review app with full device access" about the same app that I've dismissed multiple times already

The notifications are given by "Permission reminders - Permission controller" and cannot be switched off (the toggle is greyed out).
Every day, I get a notification about the same apps that I've already dismissed and it's getting very annoying now.
I know it's a security feature and android has to cater for the "dumbest" user but I know what apps I have installed and I trust them.
Some examples are Nova Launcher, Toast Source and Fingerprint Swipes.
Of course Nova launcher needs full device access. Otherwise how is it gonna show notification badges or allow gesture control.
Unfortunately, it's android 13 and toast notifications still have free reign over the device and is not captured in notification history. Some apps still use toast notifications and some are very badly coded that it spams it. It's sometimes difficult to pinpoint which app is giving toast notifications so I use Toast Source, a super useful app that will tell me which app is giving toast notifications. So of course this app needs full device access because it needs to be able to read notifications.
Fingerprint Swipes allows remapping the fingerprint sensor to do different actions on swipe down or up. It even allows swiping sideways for more actions. Of course this needs full device access to do these actions.
Every day, my device tells me "Nova as full device access. Do you want to review permissions?", "Toast Source as full device access. Do you want to review permissions?", "Fingerprint Swipes has full device access. Do you want to review permissions?" and this is getting very old very quickly and extremely annoying.
Is there a way to disable these notifications?
SOLVED: 3rd party app called TidyPanel Notification Blocker.
Possible solution 2: Settings > Apps > Special app access > Usage access > 3dots show system > Permission controller > Slide to off

Great idea. Should've done that ages ago. Up there now.
I had the same problem on my Pixel 5, caused by using the Dashlane app. I may have found a way to disable the daily hassle notification without use of a 3rd party app.
Settings > Notifications > App Settings > Change drop-down from Most Recent to All Apps > tap 3 dots in upper right and change to "Show System" > Scroll way down to (or search for) "Permission Controller."
There's a slider there that allows you to turn off all notifications from the Permission Controller, but based on what I've found out about what it does, it may not be a good idea to turn them off completely. However, if instead of turning off the slider, you just tap on the words "Permission Controller" you get shown a few more options.
I didn't disable all notifications, but the second item under "Other" said Permission Reminders (about 1 notification per day.) I disabled that as well as the item below it (Allow notification dot) and so far the problem seems to be solved.

I had so hoped this would work on my Pixel 7 but the "Permission reminders" toggle under Other is also grayed out and could not by turned off. Has anyone else found a solution to this annoying daily reminder? Thanks
