Yeah, just letting you know about this
I use OpenSuSe btw
I tried a few different distro's after using ubuntu for well over a decade, but have settled on a very simple distro - Linux Lite. All the convenience of ubuntu, without the bloat. As close to the ease of ChromeOS, without the Google part.

Yes it's possible. You just have to port it to xperia and make all drivers for xperia and you're done. Not much work isn't it
I want Windows 7 on my X1 as well. Then have VMWare installed so that I can have WinXP, Linux, Solaris running as VM. ;p

Hi,
as funny it may be.... and of course this sounds like a silly question...
....but as you might know WebOS is based on a linux kernel and root system.
At least very similar to Android OS.
So once there is a usable linux kernel with drivers for the main components it could be done.
Sure there's much to do to make this happen, but never say never
EDIT:
Just wanted to add this interesting page: http://www.webos-internals.org/wiki/Main_Page

I will get right to work on this! I just have to finish up my Xperia Hover Board....works great...just keeps killing the battery.....slowing down my Windows Server 2003 Application.....
Are you serious? -.-
Is there anyone who can make some drivers for x1 here?Maybe he will give us a great suprise ~
???????????
What would be the reason to work very hard (if at all possible) almost rebuilding from scratch an mobile OS when you already have one good enough? Maybe for the plaetora of applictions available for web OS? Or would it be for the pure pleasure of completly original error of a new almost perfect OS (but not exactly).
I am in for beta testing
Any posibilities?
first lets get android to woks properly on X1, before going for Mego or maemo.
write the title normal then people might even consider coming here...
why work on android when meego/maemo is way much better.
what is meego / maemo???
maemo is based on linux (nokia n900) meego.... successor of maemo

Maybe because android porting is already at 3/4 while maemo is 0.

Thats just your personal opinion.
I say yes, but not same people as android, so android porting wont slowdown. And if same developer would do it, i'd say first make android port good enough for everyday use.
DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THIS WILL WORK ON THE X1??

The n900 version will boot into the console, with correct kernel and settings, this is probably not what you want.
Any linux will work, the kernel needs some work yet. You will not have a fully working phone.

Hello,
i'm currently trying to set up windows xp via virtualbox on android 2.3.4 MIUI ( HTC HD2 EU). I've SDL installed, image created with virtual box, but the image has a *.vdi extension. And it seems that SDL can't handle this. Any idea to convert VDI2IMG?
Update(06/29/11):
- Testing some more ms operating systems...
- images now created with QEMU
- Sorry for the screenshot quality (HTC Touch 2)
!HELP WANTED!

If i get it to work, i will upload the package, but without the windows xp image.
So it is booting up to the splash screen now and then FC maybe i have to decrease the ram size...
I've uploaded some screenshots (bad quality, 'cause taken with HTC Touch2) with the boot menu of windows xp and the BSOD on the HD2. Currently creating a new image with 128MB RAM...hope that one works
Edit: screenshots are on 1st post now
thats epic dude, a real blue screen of death on our HTC HD2.
I don't think windows will work correctly on HD2.. better use ubuntu with wine or something better.. =)
Nice try man but i don't think that Windows XP should run on our HD2.
Did you tried with Windows 95? They should work i believe... but who wants Windows 95 on their phone!

Yes, i've tried Windows 95. But i want to test some other Microsoft OS, if they where running on the HD2. Today i will try Win98/2000. Maybe they will run better

Here is the answer: yes and no i have to modify the configuration, maybe it works after that correctly.
And... it's just an emulator like vmware but for android and wm devices ...and it should work!
So Windows 2000 displayed the spash screen as shown in the attachment, but then BSOD

and i am wondered what the use of having this??
is it possible to install virtual box now with this kernal?for example?installing windows XP,7?????
Al r noobs like me?
I guess this is a startingpoint. I could not find any spesifics on the android fork. http://www.h-online.com/open/features/What-s-new-in-Linux-2-6-36-1103009.html
Or maybe this, for someone with patience

Haha, dude.
I didn't even read that. But no. and It is called a KERNEL, not a kernal

Sorry, but no. kernal, is the operating system used by commodore 64, kernel is the core, or main component if you will, of the linux operating system. Not a trivial difference.
Hi!
This may be a ridiculous question, but I'm curious and haven't yet been able to find a good answer to it.
Given that it's possible to chroot into Ubuntu from WebOS, on the touchpad, is it possible to also chroot into android from WebOS? Would such a process be very much more difficult than it is with Ubuntu?
Found this, which may or may not be relevant:
http://www.slideshare.net/tetsu.koba/android-on-ubuntu-for-developer
So it looks like I'm not the only one who's thought along these lines, but all such projects seem to have died. Is android that tricky, or is the interest simply not there? Ubuntu chroot was possible, and there's some work being done on getting ubuntu and arch running natively. Ditto, of course, for android. Is the horror involved that much greater?

this is interesting.. we know you can run ubuntu on the touchpad in a card.. this would do the next step.. but is that exactly what Chroid was doing?????

Like I said, I have no idea about anything Just thinking that maybe the progress made since october by the CM7/9 people would make the job easier.
mm
ok, Im going to try this on a Linux Ubuntu machine first and see how it goes..
if that works I'll try it out on the tp with cm7

Good luck! Will you use android for x86 in that case?
I'm wondering if it's a problem that android doesn't use X
