I cannot unlock the bootloader. It shows this error. Currently in MIUI Global 13.0.4. Kindly help.
How are you trying to unlock it?
If you're trying any other way than using MiUnlock, it's probably gonna fail.

Hmm to be honest I don't know for sure, but I believe that the Mi 9 and the Mi A2 are different (technically, I'm not sure exactly) as based off the below link it states how Mi Unlock doesn't work in the same way it does for ours
https://www.getdroidtips.com/unlock-bootloader-xiaomi-mi-a2/
As mentioned someone stated that the Mi 9 just reboots when attempting fastboot unlocking. Though if you're waiting to unlock, there's no harm in trying to be 100% sure

Haha despite me having the Mi 9 I mayyyy get tempted by the OnePlus 7 (or the "pro" version as it's rumoured!).
Coming from the Pixel 2 XL running LineageOS, MIUI isn't so bad once rooted and debloated. Battery and performance is great so can't complain really!
I'm thinking about buying a Xiaomi Mi 8 today, but I'm really struggling to find out how to unlock the bootloader so I can flash TWRP etc.
Can somebody point me in the right direction please?
I'm relatively experienced and was running lineageos on my old One Plus One.
Thanks

1. Developer options -> enable oem unlocking and usb debugging -> mi unlock status then tap add account and device(you need mobile data for this)
2. Apply for unlocking here and follow the steps written there. Your mi account when logging in for unlocking should be the same mi account on your mi 8.
Note: when you try to unlock for the first time you will get an error. This is because you need to wait for 7(or is it 15?) days before you can proceed on unlocking your device. So, be sure to apply for unlocking as soon as you get your device.
P.S. welcome to the mi 8 community!

Yes, unfortunately it is 15 days
Make sure to go ahead and complete the steps. Because if you wait a month or 6 months, you still have to wait 15 days before they will allow the unlock. Highly annoying!
Make sure about the version you buy. The are China version and international version. There were sellers selling Chinese version with global ROM installed, this means the bootloader is already unlocked but you could have serious problems if you relocked it. So if you're not Chinese make sure to buy a global version with locked bootloader.
I have a REdmi k20 pro chinese version. In hurry of flashing Indian ROM into it I selected the clean and lock option which softbricked the phone. Now when I am trying to unlock it again through Unlocking tool it is asking me to wait for 30 days before unlocking a new phone. Is there any other way that I can unlock my device? I have tried unlocking it with some older version of unlocking tool still of no use.
Please someone help me on this
Pls search in forum.... There are a lot of informations.

Xiaomi now only let you unlock 1 phone per month on your Mi account. On the 1st November you will see the countdown reset to the normal 7 days.
Your options are wait until the 8th November, when you'll be able to unlock it, or EDL flash the phone. Which involves opening up the phone to put it in EDL mode and paying about $15 to then flash the phone with an authorised account.
You're not the first, so there's a handful of threads already, giving details of how to EDL flash a bricked phone.
I had already unlocked my device way back (July 27) and have permission to unlock on my account . I had locked my devices while flashing a fastboot rom and for the past week i have been trying to unlock bootloader without any luck. And now the tool tells me to wait for 313 hours(13 days).
Why the hell am i supposed to wait to unlock my bootloader again?. I've already waited once and unlocked the bootloader two months back. I do not understand the thought process of the people at xiaomi, like why make me wait again. The unlocking process was time consuming enough and now they had to **** it up even more.
Does anyone know the reason for this issue, and how it can be fixed.
I am really frustrated with how xiaomi is handling this situation

This is normal behaviour from the tool, if you unlock once and then relock all on the same xiaomi account you have to wait, 7 days for 1st unlock. Don't think there is a way round this as its connected to your account
please add your account in MIUI's Settings > Developer options > Mi Unlock status
I'm going through this too, MrCrowley37 have you been successful? I sent an e-mail to xiaomi and they replied that I have to continue using the device, since the device does not boot.
Thank you for contacting Xiaomi Customer Support and sharing the snapshot. I am Saloni and Understand that you are facing issues while unlocking the bootloader.
I would like to inform you to wait for some time and then try to unlock the bootloader as it is a server process it may take some time. Kindly use your device as it has not been used for a particular time through which it can unlock the bootloader.
For any further query, feel free to write us back!
Best regards
Saloni

I saw your message in another post: "I bricked my k20 so I flashed a fastboot ROM, but selected the flash and lock option by mistake. The fastboot ROM was 10.3.3 and the unlock didn't work. I got the same error you did. I even updated ... "I did exactly the same, did you get it? As you did, should I just wait?
Hey there everyone, i recently got a brand new Redmi Note 9 (merlinnfc) And i tried rooting it,
Well, i've got everything, the magisk zip is on the phone, i have the TWRP image that i need (Un-official)
the only problem is... the goddamn bootloader. I have OEM unlocking in dev options turned on, and MiUnlock dosen't do **** since it's not supported in my country, any help?
The only thing i really need is just a guide on how to unlock the bootloader un-officially.
Yes i do have platform-tools,
Yes i did try "fastboot flashing unlock", resulted in a simple verification token error.
Yes i did try all those "One Click Root" Apps, mostly malware, and none of them have exploits that support MIUI 12.5.0
You can't unlock without the official way.
Get miunlocktool if you want to unlock your device.
Good luck

I've heard of an un-official method, I've even seen a link to a guide, however, it's down.
Are you sure MiUnlock is the only way?
Thanks.
